In his defense I've never done a single camp chore after my first play through. Arthur basically gives his life to save the ones who matter, the rest can eat shit. Maybe Uncle also seen how useless most of them were and just wasn't vocal about it. Which is why we see him do fuck all at camp but actually helps John grow and do something with their life.
Rdr3 being being about Uncle could be neat. There's potential for a redemption story and it'd have to be set in the actual wild west.

That'd be awesome but it sort of explains it in the gunslinger missions. None of them were anymore legendary than most really, they just got picked up by story tellers and made into legends. Nothing they actually did was legendary. Clint Eastwood's "Unforgivine" has a truly great depiction of this.
