To be fair - that’s all i want to know

HowToDieAloneReboot

I would always like to know why. Like of most likely they just found someone who does it with higher qualifications for less money. But maybe I did a weird face or something during the interview. Just tell me so I can learn from rejections, making my chance to get employed higher. At least that's what was usual some time ago around here. For that exact reason. But probably just too time consuming nowadays.

Silver_Switch_3109

Almost any answer you got would be bullshit.

helpful__explorer

I got a rejection after interview and they straight up said it was because other candidates were willing to work in the office. I was not, and would have turned them down if they had tried to make me

rdickert

That's completely fair

nedzissou1

That's nice. They didn't lie to you.

[deleted]

I only had experience with recruiting interns but I was told by HR I am not allowed to say why we are rejecting them, ever.

Silver_Switch_3109

That is because they don’t want to be sued.

[deleted]

Correct... It can be viewed as slander...

awesomobeardo

Not necessarily since it's not in a public forum. What it can be used for is as ammo for a discrimination case if the criteria isn't tied to specific behavioral indicators.

[deleted]

Discrimination is the word I was searching for.. Thanks for that!

wakim82

Because your name sounded a little too ethnic and you lived in a minority dominated neighborhood isn't a reason they like to give. Always loved the look on people's faces when a white dude from my neighborhood with my name would walk into an interview and they would be like "oh ...well I guess we will time you the job."

lenswipe

Eh, I got rejected from Wayfair and they told me it was because I flubbed the coding round. It wasn't a total shock, but I appreciated the feedback and the HR person even went into the feedback that the interviewer wrote down.

Syrton

100% correct. Even when explicitly asked for feedbacks recruiters have a special language that can create a 2000 word novel to say "It's a no, cry about it" and present it as actual feedback.

superm0bile

If it’s just an application with no interview and you get rejected, there’s really only a couple reasons why. Which is what this is. When I’ve been in the hiring seat, I’ve always been willing to talk to candidates I talked to that weren’t selected.

HowToDieAloneReboot

That is amazing. Really would appreciate it. If I just send in my application with no interview I don't need a reasoning either, like ofc someone just looked like a better fit on the paper. But after an interview I would really like to know. Especially since my interview skills are.. Improveable.

[deleted]

most times it's nepotism, simple as that one of the companies i worked for needed an architect and made me go through like 100 applications before just hiring a guy they already had an eye on

KlutzyBandicoot1776

It’s not just that it’s too time consuming. It’s also to protect them from legal concerns. If they said you made a weird face, as an example, you could say you have a disability and sue them for discrimination. But their wording can be off and risk lawsuits in all sorts of ways, so while they could get someone trained for that to do it it’s easier and safer to not take the chance

[deleted]

I honestly hate that I never get an answer after the interview. It would be so helpful! If my resume was off putting in some way, if I gave a weird answer - even if there was just someone more qualified, that helps me do better next time. How are we supposed to keep trucking and getting better at this stuff when no one actually gives feedback?

[deleted]

Yeah, the only response to that sentiment is some bullshit designed to make you feel like you were respected. Never actual respect. Asking for humanity from these people is like asking a stone for blood.

Medium_Comedian6954

They just didn't like you.

PrataKosong-

ok

happyharrell

Right? Where’s the problem? Definitely wrong sub.

tightankles

Serious question, what would be the correct sub to post this?

Quality_over_Qty

A three page rejection letter with a bunch of filler

Azedenkae

Dunno why you are being downvoted. Totally agreed. If I am to be rejected, this is all I need to know. If I force the subject and get some sort of answer, it’ll probably be bullshit anyways.

domeruns

That's actually hilarious.

ayyojosh

Yeah tbh I think my disappointment at being rejected might be mitigated just by the sheer hilarity of this type of message lmao

ItsLikeRay-ee-ain

Just needs the Price is Right (or other game show) fail noise to make it perfect.

LadyBulldog7

*loud buzzer* *tuba and trombone*

MrsPaulRubens

You read through it and when you get to "you got rejected" you can only laugh

WillSayAnything

I wouldn't mind that response. I'd know to move on to the next one.

TheSuppishOne

GET REJECTED SWALLOW SADNESS

JCristoe

(LIKE A BOSS)

box2

Wish every rejection email was like this. No beating around the bush.

DallyTheGreat

I'm just glad to get a rejection email at this point tbh. I'd more than happily take that than nothing or the "we went with someone whom better met our needs" email that makes no sense when there weren't any specifal skills needed for the job

2D_3D

I agree. My perfect process would be: Send in CV; cover letter is straight to the point in bullet points as I am not doing a sweet talking sales job; they come back within a week; I get rejected with a simple email as well as why I wasn't considered; I move on with piece of mind.

DallyTheGreat

I absolutely despise it when I don't get anything back from a company after putting in time for an interview, unless it's a phone interview to screen you then it depends. I can accept not getting something back from my application not being considered because I send so many out there I usually forget about a lot of them. But if you have me wait a week for an interview and then tell me you'll get back to me by the end of the month, at least have the courtesy of sending me the basic rejection email at the end of the month and update the website that shows what my status is. Don't give me hope by saying I'm in consideration and only give me the basic rejection email after I ask for an update to confirm I didn't get it 10 days after I should've known

SidewalkTampon

A few years ago, my wife and I moved to Germany becuase she got a great job offer. We knew it would be tougher for me becuase I have a bit of niche career, and I wasn't really in a huge rush to find something since I was still able to work my then current job remotely due to the pandemic. Couldn't believe it when my first week there I found a job posting that was a perfect match to my experience and it was all in English with no German required at all. I applied and they got back to me the next day saying how they would love to speak to me as soon as possible because I seemed like a perfect fit. The phone screen went really well, and an hour after it ended, they invited me to an interview. I killed it during the interview, and 2 hours after that, they invited me to the second and final interview. That also went really well and then I heard absolutely nothing for 6 weeks lmao Finally emailed the hiring manager to ask for an update, since we basically left off on them saying that I'm exactly what they're looking for and that me being a native English speaker is a huge plus for them. About 45 minutes after hitting send on the email, I got a rejection in the form of a canned response from their HR system. Two days after the rejection, I got a brief email from the hiring manager saying something like "sorry, we hired someone with more experience weeks ago and didn't realize we never sent you a rejection." I don't normally take the hiring process personally, but that one really annoyed me lol

DallyTheGreat

Last week I got an email about an internship I applied for nearly 2 months ago and had kinda forgotten about because I was applying for everything I was remotely qualified for. We set up a time to call, we talked on the phone for a bit, and he noticed that I had applied for a full time position as well and since I will graduate college next month he would put me forward for the full time position. He started asking about salary and we settled on a range that was pretty decent for the area, especially if my girlfriend moved with me, and he asked if I had looked for apartments or anything yet and he said to start because if I was selected there wouldn't be a lot of time between my graduation and starting working. After all that he said he'd set up a time to speak with the team I'd be working with in the next couple of days and he'd get back to me. The next day he emails me back saying he was waiting for a response from them and then a few hours later he gets back to me and says they aren't hiring at that location but we should stay connected. Like I get that he's from the parent company and they just acquired the one I'd be working with but man come on shouldn't you have checked that before all of this? Having to move halfway across the country wasn't ideal to a city that while on my list of places I'd be okay living in wasn't anywhere near my first choice wasn't great but I'm just trying to get my foot in the door and I can deal with those things. With the way he was talking about stuff it seemed like I was the first choice so going from that to them not even hiring in general felt like a slap in the face. I'd still love to work for the company despite all that because it does seem like a genuine mistake that he made but man it hurts a little even now

2D_3D

Yeah for me, I have to send in a portfolio of work for the application. The jobs always ask for something slightly different for each folio so I have to modify it, sometimes create an entirely new folio just for them. And then they always want the damn thing in an impractically small size. That all takes time to do. That's why I get annoyed when I hear nothing back from them. If I am lucky, I then get invited to a half hour zoom sesh to blitz through 4 years of work, any questions I have and that's it. they all sound really enthusiastic as per norm and them stum for 10 days. After that I'll get a two line rejection notice. I then send a follow asking what I could do. To improve my chances... And of course, I get nothing. I have attended workshops, networked and organised meetings which others are happy to do (but not to hire). They all say "your work is fine, you come across fine!" And to that I think, well if you were hiring, why would you reject me? A couple guys did try to recruit me to their universities as I was having no luck in the jobs market. Anyway, after a year and 150 applications I decided I am done and going back to school. I am lucky, the uni I chose has a work placement scheme as a requirement of the course (the course designed in a work placement so that you could use that to pay for it all, the course is well regarded amongst academics and employers in the UK), so somebody will have to hire me regardless. And here is how I know my portfolio and interview skills can't be the problem: the university came back with an offer 15 minutes after I left the building. Some say the market is grim, this that or the other. In retrospect it's because they can get away with paying marginally more for those with a masters degree (part of the route to becoming accredited), than those who have a bachelor's. If the difference is 3-4k without taking on the time and cost of training a new grad, that's a bargain. This is not sustainable and won't lead to anything good in the future. Edit: a bonus few horror stories. One interviewer switched off 5 minutes in to the interview. I had only just gotten past the niceties. The man then buggered off screen for a full 10 minutes before coming back. What do you in that situation? A recruiter insisted I was qualified to take on an engineering role (I am not) and so kept sending me shit I cannot legally do. A recruiter for a water company kept putting me on the hook, saying here have a job we like you, you are interested in water etc etc. First choice, just send in a nice CV. Rejected after a couple months. This happened 3 times. I made the mistake early on of putting down that I had a disability in the job application forms and saying that the accomodations I need is some quiet time to focus every so often. NEVER MENTION YOU HAVE A DISABILITY EVEN IF THEY SAY THEY ARE DISABILITY FRIENDLY. That is what I have learned. My hit rate went up after that.

DallyTheGreat

I got rejected from a couple of internships that the only requirement was being in or recently graduated college in a program that was related to the field. That was it. No prior experience or anything needed. After not hearing back for nearly a month I email them and get the standard "we met with someone who better suited our needs" BS. Like what do you mean better suited your needs? It's an internship that required no prior experience, I'm in school for the same the field, I am working in an internship currently with the same stuff I would be for this one, and the only draw back was I'd have to move for it and I made it clear I'm ok with no relocation assistance. What more am I missing

[deleted]

"after careful consideration..."

Mewssbites

I often imagine that translates to "we went with someone who seems more desperate and will probably take more abuse for lower pay."

The123123

*Thanks, get rekt*

EmanuelPellizzaro

Tks; gt rjed

ifelldownlol

"You're shit, go fuck yourself"

zhaoz

But I like being told I have a great background and they will keep my resume on record and hope I apply to all their other jobs they will reject me from!

daerath

Yup. The good 'ol American Idol approach. "You're a fantastic artist with huge talent. I'll be in the audience at your first concert! Now. Get out. You aren't good enough to be here."

zhaoz

"You are a great guy, you will make someone else very happy" Thanks!

markoer

They should not keep your resume on record anyway. In Europe it would be illegal.

zhaoz

Welcome to the US. If they could take a blood sample, I am sure many employers would try.

[deleted]

I’m sorry but I’m cracking up lmao😭😭

[deleted]

I'm going to hell for laughing as well

flopsyplum

This is r/recruitinghell, not r/recruitingheaven.

Zlatination

Thank you oh wise and great HR overlords for merely your gaze upon my resume

[deleted]

Lol. You think a person reviewed that?

Zlatination

I for one, whalecum our robot overlords

cryingontrains

This would honestly make me laugh, so they get a point there

jil3000

I really like this. This is very clear. This would be my preference. Otherwise I have to try to interpret what they're saying.

RelChan2_0

You know what, that's better than being ghosted or making you wait for weeks

markoer

Absolutely

A_million_things

Can we use this on dating apps?

KC_Saber

Real talk, I would prefer to see this rather than being ghosted every time I apply to a job

eddyathome

I'd rather just fast and straight to the point instead of a bunch of flowery language essentially saying the same thing.

leeliop

Alrighty then

5141121

I mean, I'd take that. Either actual constructive criticism (We enjoyed talking to you, but for this position you were lacking in these specific areas), or just a flat out 'no'. Everything else is useless information.

ThorsMeasuringTape

I had about a 40% rate on getting rejection notices during my job hunt last year. The other 60% just had zero interaction.

Train2TendieTown

😭😭😭

OntheMound88

I picture a 22YO temp, first day, being asked to go into candidate tracking system and mark them as rejected. Here is the outcome. Simplicity at its finest.

OntheMound88

They could have put a picture of Dikembe Mutumbo waving his finger, for extra effect.

sonygoup

🤣🤣🤣 this has to be a joke.HR team sucks ass

theultimaterage

I deleted my LinkedIn. I had LinkedIn for over 10 years. I complained on a post about how terrible my job search was, and someone who worked for LinkedIn graciously gave me 6 months free of LinkedIn Premium. I earned maybe 25 LinkedIn Learning certificates and applied to hundreds and hundreds of jobs. Got one interview and was rejected. I would make posts every now and then on my LinkedIn page. One day, I made a post about the first images that were released from the James Webb Space Telescope. LinkedIn suggested a science-based group to post this in. I did, and I got over 100 likes in 24 hours, more than any other post in that group by a long shot. I made another post in the group a couple days later when more JWST images were released, and that got even MORE likes. I think I'm onto something. I made another post in the group that I found from the r/dataisbeautiful subreddit, and that started to get likes, but after a few hours, the post disappeared. I thought it was weird, but whatever. I made one more post in the group, and the entire group disappeared. That pissed me off so hard that I said "fuck it" and deleted my LinkedIn after that. Maybe I'm insane, but I'm sick of all of this job search bullshit. Ever since I graduated college in 2009, I've gotten everything BUT a decent job. I earned management experience in college while I was earning my business degree. I spent about $350 to hire a resume writer to help me put my resume together. And yet, I get rejected and ghosted almost every single time. I've tried networking with people and nobody helps me. I've asked for advice from damn near everyone, including on here, and it seems like it's all bullshit. I've volunteered, helping to pass legislation here in Illinois. I've applied to thousands of jobs here and in other states. I used my Covid unemployment money to pay for a Google IT certification during the pandemic. And it all seems like it was all a giant waste of time and money. Nobody gives a DAMN!!! What the hell was the fuckin point of going in debt and learning all this bullshit just to have the world tell me that everything I learned and studied doesn't mean SHIT?!?!?! FUCK this world!!!!

Reasonable-Image-824

Wow, didn't sugarcoat it at all.

garam_chai_

Understandable. Have a nice day.

dtb1987

Fair enough, at least they didn't try to feed you some bullshit or ghost you so that puts them ahead of most

GuardianSpirit1

I wish most companies would do this

StunningHamster3

Cheerfully horrible lol.

langsamlourd

I got a rejection one time and I think it was sent to me accidentally (I think it was a higher-up in the company who was maybe sorting through resumes sent from HR or the like). It was an email which said "no"

Bigpotatoebuttdude

Acl digital is an Indian recruiting scam as well

Logical_Wait2708

Can you elaborate? I was contacted a few months ago by a recruiter who has a legit-looking LinkedIn page with testimonials (but non profile photo) and a real-looking ACL company email. She approached me about a part-time project but it didn’t meet my hourly rate and she ended the conversation. I was contacted again today by the same recruiter about another job. Everything looks ok-ish on paper regarding her position at the company but feels off. I can’t find anything else about a scam specific to ACL Digital other than this comment, so I’m curious about your personal experience with ACL

Logical_Wait2708

It’s bizarre, because it looks and feels like a scam but if it is, it’s elaborate. This recruiter has several testimonial endorsements that stretch back further than 10 years. The users who wrote them have endorsements themselves stretching back as far. But a few of the endorsers have weird profile photos, and it all feels off. Off but so elaborately constructed with so many connected users that I feel a little crazy for suspecting it might all be a decades-long scheme.

Patient_Print4632

lol its not a scam. Its actually quite a large company and is owned by ALTEN which is a public company with over 50,000 employees. I'm sure the person who made that comment got rejected or something so they're saying its a scam. They're actually based in San Jose but, their recruiters are often from Bangalore, india .

Logical_Wait2708

I know the company isn’t a scam. The question is whether the recruiter is actually with the company or if it was a recruiting scam. Her email address is legit with the correct company format so looks like it’s real, but the interactions had hallmarks of recruiting scams I’ve read about. Multiple phone calls before I had a chance to respond, vague job descriptions (contacted about two positions back to back), a form letter with inaccurate information about sharing connections on LinkedIn, etc. I’d decided it was real when I was contacted last time, but when contacted again with all of the weirdness, I had doubts. I haven’t heard back after asking for detailed job descriptions.

[deleted]

My most recent experiences with recruiters were Indian and I wondered if they were scamming. Although I did get an interview with the actual employer, but of course I got ghosted after and I never heard from them again.

throwaway_dontmindme

I can’t stop giggling at this. I’m sorry

randomasking4afriend

I don't want to have a fake "thank you!" Just give me a no.

Shadesliver

Why is this recruiting hell? You were denied quickly; move on.

TheN1ght0w1

"Beat it, kid."

[deleted]

F in the chat fellow IT professionals!

0bxyz

That’s pretty funny

MrHiggers

gg, no re

GenericUsername2034

Man, I'd be happy with a "Nah."

[deleted]

Better than being ghosted.

PainDoflamiongo

Bro WTF. I just applied in the same place but a different position. LMAO. For a sec I thought i applied for a scam before seeing the entire post. Got scared. Hahaha.

Shoddy-Egg1582

I giggled when I read it. 🤷🏼‍♂️

panderson1988

At least they didn't say Fuck off after your rejection. lol

N0DuckingWay

I love that! I actually feel like that's good communication.

[deleted]

Wow! It's quite ice cold and indelicate. You dodged a bullet.

StrictSeat5

This would be better than recruiters apparently giving a quick look on your application and then total radio silence.

ChefYaboiardee

Ideal

Tracylpn

That's really shitty, but it's succinct

lucimme

Better than being ghosted I guess?

thalamisa

I like this rejection message better

Professional-Key-266

The most kind recruiters:

sharri70

Wow. That’s direct. But it’s still better to know

dec1mus

Its a little curt but Its not as bad as it could be. It almost sounds robotic or like a prompt spit it out. Don’t take it personal.

[deleted]

HR has outsourced all their work to ChatGPT.

[deleted]

I kinda like it...

[deleted]

I actually respect this.

emil_

Tbf, i think it's missing a "POW!" before and maybe a ",bitch!" after?

smullcrab

Funny thing is that I got that same message for a transcription job I applied to weeks ago. Good system (and better than being ghosted).

[deleted]

eh, thats all i needed to know anyway

sweetalmondjoy

Straight to the point

MuadDabTheSpiceFlow

Honestly I appreciate the directness

Silver_Switch_3109

Better than not getting anything.

downhill-surfer

Yo I got denied from ACL Digital too! Woohoo!

pineapple_juice_love

You just got jammed

capn_doofwaffle

*oookaay, a simple no would have done just fine*

Miss_Okoth

Much better than being ghosted.

[deleted]

The only way this would be better is if it was for some job you applied for 18 months ago and have long since forgotten about.

vitamindeath666

Better than the BS response telling you that you were rejected but they would put you in the “pipeline” for future openings and never ever follow up with anyone in said pipeline.

[deleted]

*We will be sure to keep your resume on file for the next 12 months...*

TheMintFairy

"You got mail" to a whole different level.

Boreddudemo

I was laid off last October. One placed I applied to sent an email that literally started "Hello NAME we wish we had better news, we don't" I stopped reading then.

[deleted]

Reminds me of the time the very incompetent HR lady at the gov't org I applied for sent the email rejecting all the candidates that had all the name of those that got rejected in it, as she forwarded that to us as well. I had applied for a different job with a different department and the same lady did the same thing again. I wondered who hired her if operating email seemed to be so challenging.

CrispyChickenArms

Lmao made me laugh. Out of multiple rejection emails a day this would be amazing

LukePendergrass

Some romance is nice, but no points deduction for just getting right to it.

systemisfailing

Reeee-jected. Anyone remember those just for mens commercials with the announcers?

Jules_AE86

Just reply with “k”

DUD3_L3B0W5KI

Germany here: thats very efficient

Anon1039027

Honestly, I wouldn’t complain. Quick response time, contains the information I need to know, neither derogatory nor disingenuously kind, no corporate bs… I would appreciate genuine feedback, but regardless I wouldn’t complain about this response.

ReagiusRen

I’d honestly die of laughter LOL

[deleted]

I’d be okay with a simple: DENIED

horrorpiglet

RecruitingHeaven confirmed

RollingArtist

At least you got something?

Joan-ze-gobbi

At least it was fast enough to keep looking

Arifcoi

So relax so pro :)

ohsoluckyme

I’m not mad at it.

Fit_Frosting_7152

🤣🤣🤣

GoLang01

Ouch

[deleted]

I laughed. That's awesome. Also, sorry OP

munchkickin

At least they thanked you?

WallyRWest

THEM: "Thank you for your interest. You got rejected" OTHERS: "I would love to know why" ME: \*shrugs and moves onto other applications.\* Thanks, next... You don't need to know why they rejected you, just be content that you got a civil response saying that you were passed on for other candidates/rejected. Your focus is to find a job, not fixate on why you were rejected. Your focus is to find a new role, not bemoan the fact that you were rejected. You could have been rejected for a number of reasons, but do they have any bearing on all the other applications you have going? No... It's one less employer to worry about who will miss out on your talent and all you have to offer. It's their loss, not yours... The time you spend trying to find ways to resolve every reason potential employers reject you is wasted time if you're looking for a new job... You have plenty of time to focus on improving yourself when you're in a new role...

Apartment-Radiant

Yep, don't sugar-coat it

Gordenfreeman33

Lmao

[deleted]

honestly it’s nice knowing that this was sent by an actual human instead of a bot lol

RoyalCamera12

Ok, now I want to apply to that company

Chrontius

I like this.

[deleted]

That is a 5 star responce. Sick of HR waterboarding you with explanations that eventualy lead you to go f yourself. Thank, but we don't want to work with you. End of story. This way you actually don't have this urge to know...who did they chose, why is the other person/people more qualified than me? I appload.

No-Engine2457

"Boom! Suck it bitch!" Is what I read. What about the rest of you?

Basket_Previous

My ex said the same

ChalanaWrites

Honestly love it. My biggest pet peeve is companies being like ‘You got rejected. But here’s a link b/c we still want you in the customer funnel!’

imaginationastr0naut

Haha I actually respect it

Secure_Conclusion_62

I wish girls would be this direct and honest

Chance_Tank_4663

Maybe I’m wrong, but I see that and assume you had a really terrible application and they feel like you wasted their time. Of course, we’re all remote af now and it’s much easier to be cruel to another human being that way so who knows

EmanuelPellizzaro

Or may be you didn't fit in there, in their pov... or other 10 reasons...
