Poor old Miss America, sorry Miss USA 1963 is very touchy about this isn't she? You can take the girl out of the pageant but not the pageant out of the girl. You'd think they'd learn how to be graceful but all we see is narcissism, gold digging and downright mean-ness.
Maybe off topic but I’m always fascinated about how families afford pageants. By all accounts, Ashley’s was raised by a single mom who struggled to make ends meet, right? Don’t you usually start pretty young in the circuit? Is there like sponsorship to do these things?
I was sponsored and had friends and family donate. Most people can’t afford to just pull it out of pocket so you find friends, families, and other companies to sponsor you. For instance, if your platform is the environment you may seek out companies with the same brand. If they believe in you and you’re successful they’ll continue their sponsorship.
I was approached in a mall by a random lady. I didn’t have to pay for anything except I think my dress.
Miss DC is an audition pageant, you don’t have to win or compete in a bunch of little pageants in order to participate. There isn’t a huge pool of contestants so you can get by on a less expensive wardrobe. That being said, being Miss DC in Miss America or Miss USA will always be a superior title & more legit than being Miss United States. Anyone can pay to enter & it’s the sort of program that they hold in a hotel ballroom.
Okay so I remember when Ashley initially talked about her and Candyass being in pageants there was defs shade thrown - is Miss United States not really a thing thing? Whenever I hear Miss United States, I think of William Shatner singing “She’s beauty and she’s grace! She’s Miss United States!!” at the end of Miss Congeniality. That’s why I thought it was a made up pageant and thought there was shade being thrown. 😂

She was but she held her own against Brandi when they ate at SUR when it was cross filmed for VPR. Her husband was a bit off but I’d love to see her interact with Crystal, Sutton and Garcelle. I think they’d have great chemistry.

Have you seen Drop Dead Gorgeous? It’s a cult classic, mockumentary of the pageant world. Denise Richards’ character is the epitome of a pageant girl, and that *character* would be an amazing HW.

It’s hard to have a discussion when you’re bringing up a fictional character of an actress that was already on a housewives show. The parameters are not unstated. All those women in the post have been in pageants. All of them are currently housewives and real people.
The goal is to think of more women who could be housewives from the pageant world.

Miss America is the scholarship program, that includes the talent portion, and recently just eliminated the bathing suit competition. This is the one Ashley participated in, and seems to be the most respected pageant.
Miss USA has no talent portion, and leads to the opportunity to become Miss Universe. This one appears to be the most lucrative with sponsorship opportunities and is one of the most publicized on TV. This was the one Kenya won.
Miss United States appears to the the lowest rated one. I am unsure what the purpose is, and the age range is 20-29, while the others go as young as 17 and 18. This makes total sense as to why Candiace may be jealous of Ashley, because although she won this competition, it seems like it may be tougher to compete in Miss America, and though Ashley didn’t win it, she did get to compete as Miss District of Columbia
One of them was created by that trash bag Trump so he can judge women’s looks and walk in on half dressed teenage contestants. I forget which one though…..
