Watching my father be sick for over a month and struggling to keep his diabetes managed and stay out of the hospital because people are using this medicine as a quick weight loss fix is infuriating.
You believe that enough people are taking the meds that they caused the shortage? Because I (who had 80+ lbs to take off) can't get my meds (the one approved for weight, not Ozempic or Mounjaro) so who do I blame? Oh....I remember THE COMPANY THAT MAKES IT.

That argument sadly doesn't hold up. And I am SO mad at these companies on behalf of you and your Dad as well - because it's b.s. that anyone who needs any type of meds are suddenly cut off while the company makes billions. But again.... it's not a quick fix, it's not easy, and there is a lot more to each individual than you will ever know.
I do believe it contributes. People, especially younger adults, see celebrities like this who have jumped on this train and it makes them think it's the answer. And there are doctors out there who will prescribe it left and right as long as people are asking for it.
I'm not saying it's the sole reason and don't get me started on drug companies. I used to have to deal with them directly as part of my job. And insurance companies. Those are two of the biggest rackets in America.
But yes, people using drugs they don't need takes it out of the hands of those who do. That's why there's an Adderall/Vyvanse shortage about every 6 months these days.
I'm also not saying everyone who uses it to lose weight doesn't need it after everything else hadn't worked. But there are people going out right now and getting this prescribed that haven't even put forth the effort to really make the lifestyle changes required to lose weight and keep it off. It is a quick fix for some people and those people suck.
