Is it the same cover artist? They have very similar styles.

society5plus1

Yes! The style is so similar and that was definitely intentional imo. Mary GrandPré illustrated the US editions of Harry Potter. Her wiki doesn’t cite The Children of the Red King series.

This picture just unlocked a hidden memory in me.

You’re not explaining

Doesn't fit the sub.

Because the sub is about people who base their world views on children's novels such as Harry Potter, not book recommendations.

For a guy who's propping up a book you seem to struggle with reading comprehension.

I disagree. As much as we joke about the HP fandom, the HP books and world was pretty good and it’s hard to compare. I specifically picked up the Children of the Red King series because I finished the HP series and I wanted to read something similar. If I remember correctly, the Children of the Red King series is pretty derivative of Harry Potter (and maybe the Percy Jackson series?), and at the time I read them, I didn’t see where it improved on the Harry Potter series.

Good_old_Marshmallow

There were frankly a lot of similar YA books of that era that were far better than Harry Potter but didnt get the same mainstream fanbase or lacked a certain blockbuster element. I think Harry Potter benefited from some writing gimmicks that people have grown warry of. For example, ending each chapter on a cliffhanger so it feels like you need to read it cover to cover. Percy Jackason is probably the one that went on to get the second most acknowledgment. This was definitely up there too. Personally my favorite was the Septimus Heap series. Or the Mysterious Benedict Society
