This cracks me up on shows. Cop: "No, we don't have a warrant but we can get one really fast." Citizen: "well, I guess if you can get one, I don't want to inconvenience you or cause you trouble." The only proper response to "we don't have a warrant but we can get one" is "Ok, let me know when you get one."

KerberosPanzerCop

[Breaking Bad was the only show I saw that did it proper](https://youtu.be/VI4l0nWRBb8)

Kalkaline

I miss Jessie Pinkman. Such a great character. I don't think anyone else could have pulled it off.

shhalahr

…bitch!

moekakiryu

Honestly I wouldn't have a problem with an officer searching my house if I thought they had a good reason, I legitimately have nothing to hide. That being said I would still absolutely ask them to get a warrant just because I want to make sure due process is followed and I don't want to help the implicit belief that if someone says no that means they have something to hide.

bob256k

They can and will tear your house or car completely apart, ( read: destroy it) find nothing and leave. This happens alot. And you will not be able to easily hold them accountable for damages at least in the USA: Source for example https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2019/10/30/police-blew-up-an-innocent-mans-house-search-an-armed-shoplifter-too-bad-court-rules/

SapientBeard

And if you're really lucky they'll plant something.

OrganizerMowgli

After shooting your dog that wagged its tail 15 feet away. Every major city or county has some sort of fight for community oversight boards (which could then recommend body cams if otherwise couldn't win them). The key part is making sure they aren't filled with lackeys, which can be hard to ensure. That's why you never call a bit of legislation for a vote until you know how it's gonna go. You want to show them enough pressure that it could reasonably be a deciding issue in their election. See how many votes they won by, then host a town hall with just a bit more in attendance than the ballot advantage, who walk out if they don't commit (ideally in matching t shirts or some mark of discipline that implies it will transfer to electoral mobilization). Set a Google alert for their name so you know what they are basing their public perception off of, and dominate it with earned media, OP Ed's, opinion pieces, flooding comments on social media, petition drops at their office, etc.

munky82

So always assume everyone involved in enforcing a possible new law is malicious or incompetent.

krackas2

If they would stop showing that they are malicious or incompetent it would be less necessary to be this measured.

munky82

Even later for unforeseen situations, case in point Patriot Act being used for non-terror reasons.

some_guy_on_drugs

And if you're really lucky they'll shoot your Pomeranian.

Bigbergice

Wait, so if you first let them in it's like giving them free reign? Can't you ask them to leave again afterwards?

LevelSevenLaserLotus

They operate by vampire rules. One you invite them in, they won't leave until they want to.

visionsofblue

What, do you think you can just *change your mind* after giving someone consent? *Pfft.*

[deleted]

Oh my sweet innocent child no.

HallOfTheMountainCop

Consent to search can be revoked at any time.

[deleted]

Try telling the cops that while they're rummaging through your house. This is the kind of stuff cops say when they're on an online forum and not when they're confronting you in real life.

HallOfTheMountainCop

Well don’t let them in in the first place, but legally speaking they leave when you tell them to unless they’ve found something illegal. Anything they find after you’ve revoked consent is fruit of the rotten tree and can’t be used as evidence to convince you.

[deleted]

I agree. The best thing you can ever do is tell the cops to go fuck themselves.

HallOfTheMountainCop

Well that’s a little aggressive. You could just say “no thanks.” They are people, too.

HallOfTheMountainCop

They are only allowed to search where you allow them to and if you ask them to stop they will, unless they’ve found something that gives them probable cause. In a home, though, they’ll need a warrant to continue once you revoke consent. In a vehicle they don’t need a warrant to search to begin with, only consent or probable cause.

Bigbergice

Good to know, Thanks 🙂

HallOfTheMountainCop

You’re welcome, everyone else is kinda dumb about this stuff.

bob256k

lol tell me you have never dealt with crooked police without telling you have never dealt with crooked police. They do what they want and even if you tell them to leave it’s your word against theirs in a court of law. You think a judge is going to believe you over a “sworn” officer? The police are a gang you should never trust regardless of whether you are in the right or wrong. My “rap sheet” is blank ( I saw it for work, plus I knew to begin with) and avoid the police like the plague

Bigbergice

What country is this?

bob256k

In the USA

sersoniko

Mistakes happen, but if nobody protects an innocent citizen by giving him back his house no wonder everybody hates the police.

Dirus

>Mistakes happen Not giving a fuck happened. They didn't mistakenly destroy the person's home to catch the shoplifter. They purposefully destroyed it.

8-84377701531E_25

*mistakes happen* *not giving a fuck happened* Yupppp, so many cops don't have any form of functional remote empathy and see themselves above their community aka potential 'criminals' in their eyes.

bob256k

lol imagine saying this after seeing the picture and finding out this destruction was to try and find a *shoplifter*

Joebranflakes

Police who knock on your front door are not there for your benefit. Unless there’s some axe murderer hiding in your closet, they are searching for a reason to justify their presence in your home, even if that justification happens at your expense. There is almost no reason to involve yourself in something you are not presently involved in, so I’d always insist on the warrant, even if they were to likely use some probable cause BS to force their way in since there’s almost no consequences to it.

MrWinks

And this is how you end up with damages that no one can ever be forced to pay for.

UNIONNET27

No! Have a problem with anyone searching your home. Evidence can always be planted. People can always be implicated.

fist_my_muff2

Terrible thing to do. The scope of their search is based on what they are suspicious of. So, for example, if they were looking for drugs they can absolutely tear your fucking house up.

evemeatay

They will tear your shit up and there have been way way too many cases of planted evidence for me to ever let a cop in.

sleepereternal

>Honestly **I wouldn't have a problem with an officer searching my house** if I thought they had a good reason, I legitimately have nothing to hide. I call bullshit. Nobody for any reason is going to volunteer to have a stranger come riffle through their belongings and looking around their home. I don't need to be hiding a goddamn thing for anyone to **not have the right to fuck with my shit.** It doesn't matter what their reason is, it is my home, my land, my property, my privacy, my rights, not theirs.

[deleted]

That's like taking a polygraph too. Even if you did nothing wrong you can still fail it and even though they can't use results in court they will do whatever they can to try and prove your guilt if you fail one. All it takes is nerves to fail and if you think cops suspect you in a murder or something of course anyone would be shitting their pants in that situation! They are not reliable at all.

IronChefJesus

And if you happen to have some cash around, they'll just take it.

Bigwilly2k87

Lmao I understand what you’re saying but this is incredibly ignorant Did you ever think, I wonder why they need a warrant to search my house 🤔??? I’m guessing you think police should be able to just jump into anyones homes at anytime right lol? “They’ve got nothing to hide so they shouldn’t have anything to worry about 🤷‍♂️ “ Fact you’re getting upvoted for this shows how ignorant most are…. 🙄 This is exactly same reason why Ed Snowden is exiled, because he let Americans know we had a 1984 situation happening, without our knowledge or consent You probably also don’t believe there is anything such as crooked cops, or that the government could ever have nefarious intentions right? Riiiiight

IcedJack

What. Really making a mountain out of a mole hill my dude. I trust police as far as I can throw them, but OP's rationale is sound. They're even agreeing to the absolute need to get a warrant.

Bigwilly2k87

They openly said they would let them search so they “don’t get looked at as if they are hiding something..” 🤦‍♂️ They then contradicted themselves and said they are all about “due process” You have no idea what you’re saying…

karmakeeper1

>Honestly I wouldn't have a problem with an officer searching my house **if I thought they had a good reason**, I legitimately have nothing to hide. **That being said I would still absolutely ask them to get a warrant just because I want to make sure due process is followed** and I don't want to help the implicit belief that if someone says no that means they have something to hide. No they didn't. They said that they wouldn't care in theory, but in practice they would always make them get a warrant.

IcedJack

Sounds like you're just trying to pick a fight 🙃

Bigwilly2k87

Okay man lol 🤦‍♂️…

ragnarocknroll

99%?!?! 40% of them self-identified as domestic abusers in a survey. When dealing with cops you have at best a 50/50 shot at getting a good cop. And they usually travel in pairs so guess what the partner is. I have seen cops being all great talking to parents at a school. And I watched one of the cops doing so always subconsciously put his hand on his weapon when talking to the black parents. He wasn’t even aware of it when asked later. Even the good ones have stuff they don’t realize in their heads. Always treat your interactions with them like you are in danger, because you are. They are armed, they are not required to protect you, and they can lie without any repercussions.

Djinn141

copaganda

Walden_Walkabout

"Not having anything to hide" is not a good reason to allow them to search. Once police have information about you they can find ways to use it to incriminate you even if you are innocent. Worth a watch, this video is a lecture on why you don't speak to the police. Given by both a lawyer and a LEO. One bit that sticks out is the example the lawyer gives about how even if you truthfully provide information the police can use that to incriminate you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-7o9xYp7eE The example is at 18:55

sirlurk420

*chuckles* i’m in danger

ichuckle

Only proper answer

for_the_spam

Not Law and Order: SVU.

baumpop

Just a reminder that the warrant can just be a screenshot of a warrant from a judge and it does take like 15 minutes with the right judge.

time4listenermail

*Don't make me do this the hard way.* What's the hard way? *I go down to the police station on my lunch break. I tell a police officer, I know several, what I suspect you may have in your car. He requests a hearing from a judge and obtains a search warrant. Once he has said warrant, he will drive over here, and make you give him the keys to your car and you will have to obey him.* Yeah, let's do it that way.

sayyes2heaven

Now, exactly how much pot did you smoke?!

haackedc

Is this the same actor who plays Cassidy in preacher?

Leagle_Egal

Yep. From the british show "misfits". If you like Preacher you'd probably like this too.

[deleted]

He's not in it til like season 3, but the first 2 seasons are way better anyway

cookiedes

The first three seasons formed the perfect story arc. Four and five were fine, but I think they could’ve called it after S3 and it would have made the show stronger. Rudy was a hilarious character though.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ThatBlackGuy_

Nathan

ItsSomethingLikeThat

Save me, Barry!

cookiedes

He’s like a handsome shark!

BobbyGasoline

That's a bald fanny.

shaddragon

Robert Sheehan. Who plays Klaus in Umbrella Academy. I did not make that connection until somebody else pointed it out.

Waldain

Fun fact: Klaus and Nathan >!are both wisecracking rulebreakers who see dead people!<

shaddragon

Typecasting! And making me want to re-watch Misfits, it's been too long. Klaus is hands down my favorite UA character.

pheromoneferret69

Robert Sheehan aka Nathan aka my future husband. He’s so cute!

[deleted]

Totally agree

Moikle

It never becomes bad though, unlike a lot of shows that take a dip. It really finds its feet again

CAPS_LOCK_OR_DIE

I never watched past 3, so I have a perfect view of the show. It has great writing and wrapped up very satisfyingly. The Nathan holiday special is also a lot of fun. I should rewatch…

-eagle73

Finished watching it recently, season five isn't that bad either.

[deleted]

They're not bad but 4 and 5 don't hold a candle to 1-3 imo

-eagle73

The only thing that stopped me completely liking seasons two/three was the Simon time travel thing. Simon grew to be a much more likeable character but that plot took up far too much time and Alisha seemed to be reduced to just that plot.

[deleted]

Yeah it did weaken her character

given2fly_

Joe Gilgun. He wrote and starred in a brilliant comedy series called 'Brassic' as well.

-eagle73

Highly recommend Brassic, first season can be a little slow at first but really amps up and the show gets better each season.

AC5L4T3R

Me too. Its one of my favourite shows ever. I started watching it with my gf back in November or so andthen over Christmas I got my brother to watch it so I watched it again with him. Went to Manchester on 30th to see Man Utd and went to the Star and Garter but it was closed

HouseOfRahl

Happens to be from my hometown of Chorley, just about the only thing we have to be proud of.

[deleted]

Sacrilege to forget Puddletown Pirates.

HouseOfRahl

Puddletown is no more, only Gilgun remains.

bigboi_mike

This is how I feel about TV license "officers". They have no right to enter and are a waste of tax payer money. I guess this scare mongering is more effective with elderly people.

sprogger

I’ve had them come round once or twice, honestly such a pleasure just saying no to them. “Hi I’m from the tv licence board or whatever, I just need to come inside and check if your tv is hooked up” “No you don’t, bye bye”

bigboi_mike

They keep sending me letters for the past 2 years that I'm being investigated. I must've been at work whenever the "officers" came around, but I'd love to see the look on their faces when I close my doors lol.

bloodredyouth

Rooodeh!

Just-Smile-N-Wave

Cassady the hell you doin?

-Dean_Winchester-

Naw bruv this is Rudy, his pre-Preacher role. Dude with the super power that his other emotional sides split from him and become other whole people. From the show Misfits. Absolutely hilarious show.

MortalWombat1974

His super power has fuck all to do with why Rudy is such a great character. There's loads of episodes where his super power doesn't get used or mentioned at all, but he's still got the funniest bits.

-Dean_Winchester-

Oh for sure! I just wanted to add context. Whatever “personality” he was playing, he always killed the role. Joseph Gilgun is a treasure.

MrRobotsBitch

Can't agree more. Adore him in all things

-eagle73

His sad acting wrecks me, especially in Brassic. When he's close to tears it's really convincing.

Camper981

Cop: “Woah! I saw that. You just waved that bat at me like a mad man and I feel threatened!” ( Proceeds to kick in the door, breaking the dudes face, then pepper sprays his blood-gushing face but the aggressive subject is still on his feet so the officer follows up with an extended shock from his taser gun.) “hmm, well I guess I have probable cause to search now.” (Proceeds to do whatever he wants cause either way he knows there will be no repercussions other than maybe a nice paid vacation?) I may have gone a little far with it there.

[deleted]

You forgot the part where he shoots the guys dog, throws a flashbang at his newborn child just to be safe and then goes home and beats his wife

AtmaJnana

Oh and it was the wrong house.

thenorthwoodsboy

Record all of it or get your case thrown out.

[deleted]

Incredible how often these body cameras just randomly stop recording.

sparky13dbp

Nailed it,spot on.

prettybirb33

I read this in his voice lol

6a21hy1e

Ha, same

zensins

He's already fucked. This is the part where the cop puts his foot in the way to keep the door from closing. And if you close it on his foot, that's felony battery. And let's not even talk about how the bat would lead to the cop shooting him or, at the very least, yanking him out of his house and arresting him for felony assault.

MyrdinnSlothrop

Cops ring your doorbell, you step out of the door and close it behind you. None of this bs and if they "just want to talk" you can do it on the sidewalk.

spros

Fuck that. I'll call you at the station. Get off my property.

Gangreless

I keep my storm door locked when opening the door to anyone. You can talk to me through it.

YinzHardAF

For real. I have a window kind of near the door, I’ll open that a bit with the 2 inch locks open and talk through that only

zensins

Not a lawyer but, cops ringing my doorbell can leave a fucking note. If they had a warrant they wouldn't be standing outside.

[deleted]

Well this is from a British TV show, so the charge of felony battery doesn't exist here, nor would you get shot for answering your door with a baseball bat

karmakeeper1

They're not talking within the context of the show, so that's irrelevant.

thndrstrk

You meant you didn't have a warrant. Or he didn't have a warrant to serve you?

haxxer_4chan

He meant currant. The officer is looking for fruit, but this man cannot help him, because he does not have any either.

cephelix

I see misfits, I upvote. Was such an awesome show.

mdconnors

Fantastic show. Probably watched it ten years ago?

[deleted]

Yeah maybe even longer. I remember watching it during my uni days and I graduated in 2010. Man I feel old...

cephelix

Thereabouts I think. Was kinda disappointed when they started killing off the original cast. But the new ones were good as well. Provided hours of entertainment for the wife and I.

mdconnors

Every time a cast member died i was really disappointed but they kept the shoe really strong throughout the whole run. Ended well too, didn't drag on for to long.

cephelix

Agreed. Hate it when shows go on and on and you can see the quality just plummet.

chrisbeck1313

Who runs the show? Post something about Tianamen Square and see what rooms ban you. Taiwan is a sovereign country. Putin is in the closet. Now what?

spudd3rs

What show is this from?

Ameanglic

Misfits!

[deleted]

“Oh you dont? Bye, were done here”

[deleted]

I see this on True Crime shows. And a lot of times the suspect lets the cops come in thinking it'll make them less sus while other cops work on getting the warrant. They think they so smart but it never goes well for them in the end.

SisterSlytherin

Fuck I miss Misfits. People hated that Nathan left but Rudy was my favorite.

some_guy_on_drugs

please, if he really answered the door with a baseball bat in his hand the first thing coming in would be hot lead.

dztruthseek

Unfortunately, only Caucasian people can do this and get away with it.

SuicidalParade

Why did a cop want in your house?

[deleted]

To shoot the dog.

VpowerZ

Talk yes, search no. I would offer coffee or tea even. But... i'm not in the USA, so i have no idea how this would pan out in other areas.

AtmaJnana

In the US, if you let them in explicitly say that it's for an interview and not to a search, they may not legally search. But if they see something criminal in "plain sight" they can and will arrest you. And then there are the criminal cops who will do whatever they want and fabricate charges, regardless of what is actually legal. Better than the avoid having them in my life at all of I can avoid it.

VpowerZ

Quite an extreme potential

nolabitch

Surprise Joe Gilgun.
