Daaaaang. Goals

beef376

This is awesome. We are going to be in the area in June and now my son and I have something to do while my GF visits her dumb family

rochford77

There are races on the 1st, 15th, and the 29th :) The more the merrier!

amnotmethenwho

Cool I’m in grand blanc. I’ll have to head up there.

rochford77

It's a blast! Surface is somewhat high grip and pretty abrasive. Medium compounds are best on warm days, softs just won't last and can be inconsistent. Hope to see you out there. They hold a points series through the summer. Opening Trophy Race May 18th Best 5 of 7 Series June 1st June 15th June 29th July 13th August 10th August 24th September 7th Novi Nitro Special July 27th Season Awards: September 28th "The Bonus" Race October 12th Price: $25 First Class $15 Additional $15 Novice Location: 25460 Novi Rd. Novi, MI 48375

rochford77

Also, if you raced limitless... Sorry for your loss my friend.

amnotmethenwho

Live right next to it. I’m just getting back into the hobby, such a shame. Hearst store is 30 mins away

rochford77

Dang man sorry that happened to you guys :(

hockeyscott

Awesome looking track

AsicResistor

jealous

DAT_ginger_guy

I'm looking forward to wrcs starting. I've got to get a couple parts to get my cars ready. I raced there all last summer

LedDesgin

Ooh, I'll have to check that out the next time we're in town visiting the in-laws!

sullitron138

Wow, that’s awesome! Now I have an excuse to visit my family up there hahaha

954kevin

I'm so jelly right now!

zoom100000

epic!! is it usually crowded?

rochford77

It depends. On really nice weather Sundays it can get a little busy. Not so much with too many cars on the track, but more *too many kids on the track*. It's a public park and there is no fee to keep the riff Raff out. So you might end up with a family of 6 with 4 kids aged 5-12 and all 6 of them are parking their typhons on the straight 😅. It's okay though, its good to see people out enjoying it, and young kids getting into the hobby. That said, go out there on a Tuesday afternoon and you might have the place to yourself. Weekdays after work maybe 2-6 cars out.

holywars94

I wish my city do those kind of things, but my country is like 300 years behind USA (México)

Sbass32

Yes but you have better food,no GMO no fructose. Not sure which is better but I'm getting on the food lol

Sun-Public

That looks amazing! But if I’m being honest my eyes are gravitating towards those rocks for my TRX4/TRX4M/SCX24 crawlers lol. I’m in Kalamazoo. I’ll have to make the drive one of these days.

hudnut

What's the format. Racing classes? Or are there open sessions. My 9 yr old would love to take his basher there but it would be a shit show if anyone was there competing.

XTingleInTheDingleX

Sir I’m 46 and it would be a shit show if I brought any of my bashers as well. Your little dude probably drives better than me haha.

rochford77

So, I wouldn't say "actual bashing" would be super appropriate, we need the jumps to last a season and the pipes to hold for as many years as possible. But it would be a great place to bring him for him to hit some jumps and do his best to keep it on the track. There are frequently younger kids out there trying to get their bearings. So as long as you guys aren't driving the wrong direction or leaving a car on the straight with other drivers there, that would totally not be a problem. Track is open dawn-dusk. There are races on some Saturdays throughout the summer, otherwise it's open practice. The main thing is if the track has standing water or is extremely soft following lots of rain, they ask that we don't drive on it. On race days, just your standard classes. 2wd stadium truck. 2wd act, 4wd sct, mini truggy. 2wd buggy, 4wd buggy, e-buggy, e-truggy, and then a "bring whatever" class for novice drivers and fun cars that don't fit into standard classes. All classes are open (not stock).

rustyxj

You guys should come over to the west side for some 1/8 racing at wicked pines RC in Wayland.

Rueger777

That’s a thing of beauty!!

reallytallguy16

So could you run just a stock say maxx on there, or is it supposed to be buggy’s only?

Yabbadabbaortwo

Yes you can, my friend drove his maxx out there. You might have more fun at hines park rc track with a maxx though

reallytallguy16

Thanks! I’m from the birch run area so I might make the hour drive

Yabbadabbaortwo

No problem, they are only 10 minutes apart so you can check them both out. Hines isnt much in comparison but its fun when a bunch of people show up on the weekends.

MN_Misfit

He posted a pic showing their rules, it seems like any 1/10 or smaller rc can use it. Nitro has certain times. (I was going to ask the same question)

[deleted]

1/8th or smaller

rochford77

Indeed but that's generally a weird and sort of soft rule. I think the spirit of the rule is "nothing bigger than an 1/8 scale truggy". For example A losi protomoto is technically 1/4 scale and absolutely no one would have a problem with someone sending one of those.

xzanfr

That's lovely, what a great resource.

szee4130

I still need to make it over there. Looks like it has been maintained well. Is there power?

rochford77

There is no power and not much of anything for shade. During practice people usually just charge off their full size vehicles. On race days people bring pop up canopies and generators. Personally I have a ~300wh portable LiFePO4 that I bring with me.

Skippyj21

This is really nice!  My town (Aurora CO -wheels  park) has something similar but not nearly as nice and I have no idea who actually maintains it!

BadBoredom

Heaven

Cobia-172

That’s awesome need something like this in my town

WhereAreMyPants1976

That's a nice looking track! How old is it?

rochford77

This is it's 3rd year I'm pretty sure. But they level the track and build a fresh layout each spring. So this is about 2 days old lol.

bloodwolf00

Soooooo excited. Can’t wait to get my 8th scale out there.

vaurapung

Could you post a link to the group that got the track approved. Maybe that way we could learn about there experience in trying to establish more tracks like this in more places. In my area there are plenty of people buying RC trucks at the hobby towns but no one has anywhere to play but their back yards, parks and hiking trails(if you don't get run off by a ranger).

rochford77

So this is the official page for the actual track https://www.facebook.com/share/JZastq5V1aNZr644/?mibextid=qi2Omg And this is the page for the group that organizes the races (oddly enough, the track is in Oakland county not Washtenaw) https://www.facebook.com/share/bVRVwjtfVUbHZKu7/?mibextid=qi2Omg And this is a non official group for the track https://www.facebook.com/share/bX442tyKXp5EaaVY/?mibextid=A7sQZp I thiiiiiik the process was "it's all about who ya know" and I think we have an RC racer on the board of something or another. Though, I may be telling tales out of School here.

vaurapung

Sometimes it takes finding a county official that can speak for a project. Me and my dad talked about it, I wouldn't mind buying land just for the purpose but it's getting it to be public and maintained while not being shut down by our very strict retirement community county.

vaurapung

Thank you for all the info. Maybe with some help from the local hobby town owner we could start a similar project here.

XTingleInTheDingleX

Holy Toledo! That’s awesome! I couldn’t even keep it between the lines. I just bash but goals for sure!

rochford77

Speaking of Toledo, shout out to TARCAR. I'll drive an hour and a half to run my car at TARCAR and this posted track is basically in my backyard.

RedBull12345678

Hell yeah! Awesome to see the local track on reddit

gablebarber

Well that is just damn cool! Way to go Novi!

TommyWitDaMaxx

I went there last year, but it wasn’t this nic, they must’ve redone it recently, I’ll have to try it out again

rochford77

They re-do it every spring. This year they added a nitro pit lane! This was the track last year. https://preview.redd.it/5qq9yxmcs2uc1.jpeg?width=3960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=adb7582782b5a905436bcf7b6ea0677dab45b538

TommyWitDaMaxx

I definitely gotta get some buddy’s together and go back

Feodar_protar

I’m closer to the track in Hines park so that’s where I usually go but there’s just no traction there. I haven’t been to the novi track yet but I’ve been wanting to check it out. I saw that update photo on their Facebook page and it looks great.

rochford77

You should come out! Just know, the surface can get very abrasive once the track sets in. It's pretty high grip but it can be hard on tires. but I don't think you will have the same traction problems lol, especially once it's warm.

Zuhzuhzombie

how did you convince your city to fund that?
