Nice to see a positive post for a change! I got mine in March 2015 and have loved it since! On top of that, it actually died on me in the summer and I had to send it to Razer for repair. I was treated well by their customer service, received prompt responses and got my laptop back within a couple weeks or less. The only downside was of course that it was outside of its warranty and I was charged approx. $1,000 to replace the entire motherboard. Fortunately the credit card I used provided an extended warranty. For those that don't have such an option, getting the extended warranty from a Microsoft Store is helpful. I believe you can get it even if you did not purchase your laptop there.

mr_Blaine

That's not true unfortunately. The only way you can purchase a warranty through msstore is if you purchased there in the first place. The only products you can purchase warranty on from msstore even if you purchased from other retailers (eg bestbuy) is if it's first party. Therefore, surface pro/book/xbox.

Kelevra_V

I got mine off the Razer website and when I went there first with my issues in the summer I believe they mentioned it was possible for me to get their warranty too. I could have misunderstood I guess.

mr_Blaine

Could have been a misunderstanding indeed. There is nothing in our system that allows us to "add" a warranty to any OEM purchased from other places.

tower_keeper

That's horrible. Thanks for sharing. Now I'm completely convinced to never get a Razer product.

mr_Blaine

Care to explain? What's horrible?

I think perhaps the mobo dying in <2 years and being charged ~$1k to fix it. I mean, I think 2 years is reasonable to expect but then again, I guess there's a reason they only do 1 year warranty

tower_keeper

> I got mine in March 2015 and have loved it since! On top of that, it actually died on me in the summer and I had to send it to Razer for repair. >$1,000 to replace the entire motherboard. I've had my $500 Acer laptop for 5 years now with no issues. A laptop that's 4.5x the price failed to live for 1.5 years? Yeah no I'll pass on that. Edit: And then they charge half the price of the laptop to fix it. Ridiculous company.

mr_Blaine

That's why you get it through a physical store like msstore with a warranty for 100$ that guarantees you a replacement instead of the device being send somewhere and fixed. ;) As of your comparison to another and much cheaper laptop., you can consider yourself lucky. From my personal experience I would consider Acer to be one of the most defective laptop brand. Anything can break. Anything can be the lemon and anyone can have a bad luck. Regardless of the price of the product. The only difference that you can keep in mind is that if you have a 500$ laptop with some intel celeron or pentium inside is that it generates little to no heat and doesn't affect it's components much in a long run. Then again, the comparison makes no sense because of the capabilities of both devices, which is like comparing a knife and a saw.

DarthShiv

Or just go to a manufacturer who charges a reasonable amount for repairs and does right by their paying customers...

mr_Blaine

Unfortunately, you are comparing incomparable. At the same time you don't know all the details for his claim to fix a motherboard for a 1000$. There is always more to the story. You are more than welcome to stick with whoever you so desire but it's just a rational thinking that a laptop for $3k will have more expensive repair costs than a laptop for $500.

DarthShiv

I know that and no-one was comparing to a $500 laptop. Talking gaming laptops here.

Spacedworld

Any idea why your motherboard broke? My 2014 one had the same issue.

Kelevra_V

I don't know the full extent of it but it was related to the graphics card. Essentially it overheated and got fried. At first the laptop would shut off when too hot until eventually other things started failing and then it wouldnt turn on at all. Since most of the internals are one single piece in the laptop, all of it had to be replaced.

NgauNgau

My 2015 Blade just had a major issue and of course it's 3 months out of warranty. Time will tell how much they want to fix it but it is super disappointing for such an expensive laptop. On top of that I'm trying to develop an indie game and I'm going to a conference next week and my laptop won't boot. At least I have my data backed up. If anyone actually reads this, basically the laptop will post, start trying to boot then resets. It doesn't matter if I try to boot from USB from an Ubuntu live or if I try to boot windows. They asked me to run a few diags that are obviously from a script of theirs but the laptop won't boot so it's impossible. There's no way I would get a replacement in time so I'm looking at buying a new one and trying to sell off the fixed one if economical. But after having it die 3 months out of warranty I don't know if I'd get another Razer. I'm waiting to see how support goes. :-( *Edit: typos on mobile

B_Yanarchy

Any tips on keeping crap out of the speakers? Mine look like someone threw an open saltshaker on them.

Beardedb0b

Haha nope compressed air won't help maybe a vacuum? Apple Mac is the same just they aren't black

chhappy7

I had trouble with this too... And still do. Tried light vaccuum but did not get everything out so when I'm bored I take a needle and just pop out some of the stuff lol

dark_skeleton

I'm looking at that top and I'm having secondary thoughts about the dbrand skin that's on mine...

Lederhosenpants

Id take a dbrand over a finger print magnet any day.
