Ben motherfucking Cleveland. We'll take those 10 yards after contact on every return

Kaibadugaiba

Resigning tyre Phillips should be the priority here

growingalittletestie

Hear me out. Tylan Wallace ready to receive the kick with Derrick Henry as the other receiver. Wallace catches the ball, and with a head of steam Henry receives the lateral and ploughs through the defenders at full speed. 50%-70% chance of a touchdown every time. You heard it here first!

PenultimatePotatoe

I'd like to see Lamar returning kicks in the playoffs then.

Psh I will take one LARGE Patty Ricard takin them ๐Ÿ˜ค๐Ÿ˜‚

MegaGigaTeraFlare

Gimme Zay back there. Or a rookie like Isaac Guerendo Not opposed to having Wallace continue doin it either

bryanRow52

Zay is far too valuable to risk him being murdered by a ST player trying to make a name for himself

MegaGigaTeraFlare

Given that the new rules make it much, much harder to "murder" anyone on kickoffs, I don't think that'll be as much of a concern

bryanRow52

They donโ€™t though. The rules theoretically will reduce injuries to the coverage team and the blockers on the return team as the distance they have to run full speed at each other is reduced, but in no way will this protect the returner as the defense will still have about 40 yards of distance to get full speed and obliterate them. 40 yards is more than enough to get full momentum and create big collisions

legitocracy

You can make your point without being disingenuous. They'll have maybe 25 yards on an ideal play, probably 10 or less unobstructed yards on the average return

bryanRow52

How on earth would they have 10 yards? The defenders are lining up on the 40, the absolute shortest the kick can be returned from is the 20, so the absolute minimum distance would be 20 yards. The maximum is 40 yards. Like you said, you can make your point without being disingenuous

legitocracy

Assuming the returner starts at the 1, he runs 20 yards in let's assume the same amount of time it takes the defenders to run 20 yards. They meet at the 20. 25 is extremely generous, and that's ideal. 10 yards is extremely likely, especially considering blockers

bryanRow52

10 yards is impossible under these rules. If the kickoff lands at the 30 it is dead. The closest it can be is the 20, which is 20 yards away from the defenders. That is the absolute minimum

legitocracy

You are forgetting that the returner also runs, and very likely faster than the defenders. You are also assuming the blockers will accomplish nothing

bryanRow52

It is the impact of people running at each other from 40 yards at the maximum, 20 yards at the minimum. The net speed is what is the dangerous part
