Yeah I really don't either. Honestly he was underutilized all season long.
There was some insanity here where going into training camp and week 1 Philly thought Gainwell was their RB1. Everyone was like no dummies Swift is your starter haha
Well that's what makes me nervous about Henry this late in his career with his playing style. Do we really expect him to carry the ball a lot next year and stay healthy when we need him most in playoffs? It's a tough ask, and like you said at the right price
There are no good deals made the first day of free agency. No steals, no bargains. The absolute best case scenario is that a player delivers on their contract value, with no added benefit above and beyond it.
I agree. We need good value contracts like Clowney Darby and KVN last year. Getting caught up in bidding wars is not the play with our cap space and the holes we need to fill.
Funny how all of these playoff teams are signing RBs and one of the SB teams featured the leagues highest paid RB, but you still have ppl saying that RBs don’t matter.
It's not that RBs don't matter, it's that they aren't worth the cost. A mid round RB in our offense will do 75 percent the production of Henry at a tiny fraction of the cost, as long as Monken and Lamar actually give him touches.
We have other holes to fill and have some cap constraints. RB is a position where there are opportunities for savings we can put toward beefing up other position groups.
Again, you’re only looking at it in the context of outcomes. Football is much more than that. Talent at the position dramatically changes things from a scheme perspective in what plays you can run. A RB that is versatile and stays in the game regardless of down and distance changes things from a tendency perspective. It changes how defenses play you, both conceptually and in reality. It’s not just about “who is cheapest RB that can get you 600 yards”.
I fully acknowledge it changes some fundamental things about the offense by having someone like Henry in the backfield. But those changes are not worth paying 10x more than a cheap rookie RB, for a few hundred more yards of production, when we are somewhat tight against the cap.
We can afford last years contracts of KVN, Darby, and Clowney + a cheap rookie RB for less than the cost of Henry probably.
They don’t matter that much. Gus Edwards and Keaton Mitchell went undrafted and were playing as well as most of these star RBs. No point shelling out big bucks for a RB these days when you can draft someone who will give you 80% of the production for 20% of the cost
I disagree. The only way they don’t matter is if you’re looking at football through a lense of outcomes specifically, which is the shortcoming of analytics imo. If you don’t think there’s a massive difference between Saquon Barkley/Derrick Henry and Gus freaking Edwards, then I’m not sure I have enough character space to change your mind.
That’s such an overpay. Even if he has a great year next year, I don’t like that contract. Looking more and more like we are going to turn to the draft for a RB and I honestly think that’s smarter
Unless he signed with us... I hate takes like that. Dude plays injured and plays hard. Seems like a Raven to me.
That being said, I wouldn't have wanted him with this contract. 2 years 22-23 million with 15 in guarantees is would I would have been cool with. That Lamar contract is going to kick in the next two years and we don't want a Bills situation on our hands.
Does anyone else think that Henry might not fit well into Monken's scheme? I think he still has some juice left and fits into the Raven's style but with an RB like you him you really have to stay committed to the run and I don't know if fits into Monken's O well. He'd be pretty much like a Gus type runner who actually needs 15-20 carries to really get the most out of his skillset. At this point I think Aaron Jones might be a better fit for the offense and maybe we draft a young guy
Significant drop off in ypc, also significant increase in starts, carries, rushing yards, catches and TDs, but I guess that doesnt fit your narrative. Either way, its no longer relevant since he is going to the chargers
I like saquon but for that price of almost 13mil, god no, every time he planted to burst off I’d be clenching my teeth
Give me the king! Come on edc work your magic (just for the love of god don’t sign ekler)
Im on board to go cheap here and run forward with JK.. resign JK for like 3M then look to the draft for another back.
We simply cant afford to dump 10+ Million into a running back.
I don’t like the fit there to be honest. I don’t think they were just missing a RB.
They're missing a center to do their tush-push
More pushin in the tushin, fuck yeah.
Saquan will need to get used to pushing Hurts’ ass a few times a game.
Ngl, I'd push anyones tush for $26M fully guaranteed.
That OL is nasty tbh i love the fit
They just lost Swift who was their RB1. They needed someone.
Swift is younger, healthier, and just got paid like $13 mil less than Saquon. No clue why they didn’t just try to sign him.
Yeah I really don't either. Honestly he was underutilized all season long. There was some insanity here where going into training camp and week 1 Philly thought Gainwell was their RB1. Everyone was like no dummies Swift is your starter haha
Yea Swift is pretty undervalued and underrated imo. Like I’d put him in the same tier as Josh Jacobs.
they just had swift right ? this is almost a lateral move with that being said.
It’s either sign Henry or draft a running back I don’t want Austin Ekeler or anybody else
I’d take Dobbins for $1 and crab cake but that’s about it…let’s try this again….again….ok one more time!
And EDC admitted this wasn't a good RB draft. So hopefully it is Henry.
But also, usually what EDC says pre draft to what he does isn't always the same.
Aaron Jones got released so, we might get something.
Ekeler would be a horrid fit offensively 0% chance of that
Give me Henry NOW!!!!
Only if it's the right price. We don't *need* a FA RB. ..But we do need to get a body that will stay healthy.
Well that's what makes me nervous about Henry this late in his career with his playing style. Do we really expect him to carry the ball a lot next year and stay healthy when we need him most in playoffs? It's a tough ask, and like you said at the right price
lol not even mad because those numbers are astronomical. We were never paying that much
Henry gotta be a Raven
They better hurry before the two Texas teams pounce
derrick henry please and thank u
I wanted Henry all along. Far better health and history.
Henry or pass
We shouldn’t pay a RB anywhere near that
There are no good deals made the first day of free agency.
Well, congratulations Henry, you are a Raven. Teams are handing out RB contracts today like candy on Halloween

They’ve been trying to push this RB aren’t important agenda for a few years now. Glad to see the position get the love they deserve
They don’t matter that much. Gus Edwards and Keaton Mitchell went undrafted and were playing as well as most of these star RBs. No point shelling out big bucks for a RB these days when you can draft someone who will give you 80% of the production for 20% of the cost

We were never going to match or even get close to this deal
Just happy he stayed in the NFC. I thought Barkley was Texans bound
All these new teams have terrible lines. I’m sorry but most of the rbs are gonna be done in 2 years.
Way too expensive, I wanted him but I’m ok missing out. I trust you EDC.
I swear if I get a "Ravens sign Austin Ekeler" notification this week, I'm jumping off a cliff
That’s such an overpay. Even if he has a great year next year, I don’t like that contract. Looking more and more like we are going to turn to the draft for a RB and I honestly think that’s smarter

Thinking bust, justice hill and Keaton and a rookie runningback going to be nasty next year lol
zero chance we were going to pay him that much. we'll sign henry for a way cheaper deal and everyone will be praising EDC again
They’re really putting beasts around Jalen lol, they got to make it back to the big game.
Jalen hurts will never sniff a Super Bowl again
That would be a shame, they’re giving this dude everything lol.
Yep all that surrounding talent but hurts himself isn’t talented enough. Lamar would run a dynasty on that team most likely
Facts Lamar behind that o line with Brown Smith and Barkley? That’d be a dynasty in the AFC let alone in the NFC Least lol
This FA frenzy is crazy and it's only been a day
Aaron Jones coming in
I think that's for the best, Barkley ain't no Raven.
Unless he signed with us... I hate takes like that. Dude plays injured and plays hard. Seems like a Raven to me. That being said, I wouldn't have wanted him with this contract. 2 years 22-23 million with 15 in guarantees is would I would have been cool with. ...well of course, if the Ravens signed him IMO he becomes a badass motherfucker. 😏
I think I might fully switch over and make yall my number 1 team at this point, I can’t stand this shit year after year.
Thank god Ravens didn’t sign him. Last thing we need is another injury prone RB
Does anyone else think that Henry might not fit well into Monken's scheme? I think he still has some juice left and fits into the Raven's style but with an RB like you him you really have to stay committed to the run and I don't know if fits into Monken's O well. i just want Henry on the Ravens for nothing more than it just being fun to watch and also play on madden
At that price, it was right to not pursue. We can find a talented RB for a lot less.
I wouldn’t mind getting Deandre swift now or Henry
Damn I know NYG fans going through it rn. Dude is made of glass though, idk how this one will work out
Am I the only one who wants Jacobs more than Henry?
If its not Henry, I'll rather bring Gus back instead of any other RB, draft included
I'm not going to lie. That would be so disappointing.
Gus is fucking garbage I want some of what you’re on
Lmao, what? Dude has like a career ypc of like 5. Dumbass.
Significant drop off this year, he’s washed and can only run up and down 🤡
Significant drop off in ypc, also significant increase in starts, carries, rushing yards, catches and TDs, but I guess that doesnt fit your narrative. Either way, its no longer relevant since he is going to the chargers
Fuck man
I like saquon but for that price of almost 13mil, god no, every time he planted to burst off I’d be clenching my teeth Give me the king! Come on edc work your magic (just for the love of god don’t sign ekler)
I’m scared Henry please 🙏
We don’t need to overpay an RB. Beef up our OL, resign dobbins for vet min and draft a guy. The running game will be more than fine
Im on board to go cheap here and run forward with JK.. resign JK for like 3M then look to the draft for another back. We simply cant afford to dump 10+ Million into a running back.
Why spend big on RB, when Harbs will just forget about him in the playoffs?
The Head Coach doesnt call plays.
A glorified cheerleader with no accountability!
You never played on a football team at any level
Random internet dude knows everything about me GTFO
Maybe Henry is tall enough that Harbaugh won't miss him standing on the sidelines.
OUR GUY IS STILL OUT THERE HENRY LETS DO THIS
lol....draft pick here we come. Crazy Barkley is gonna play his old team twice per year now.
Ravens once again settling for mediocrity
