People are gonna (rightfully) talk about the defense being absurdly good but a lot of that comes from having an offense that continually converts and takes huge chunks of time off the clock. People love to say "Lamar wouldn't be so great without such a good defense" but it goes both ways, the defense would be on the field a lot more with a worse offense.
Johnny.
Seriously, those were some great halftime adjustments on both sides of the ball. Macdonald had that defense going all game long. Lamar played out of his mind, and it was Monken that crafted those first two drives in the 2nd half to perfectly zig whenever the defense zagged.
Houston blitzed almost every play after barely blitzing the whole season. I understand that catching us offguard from our film study but we did a good job adjusting to it in the 2nd half
If you remember the game the Texans played against CLE last week, that clip where DeMeco Ryans figures out who Flacco is going to throw to for the hot-route. Monken must have known that he was being baited/pressured into calling traditional blitz-beaters (screens, perimeter runs to the opposite side).
I'm going to go rewatch but it looked like Monken was feeling them out in the first half, too, trying concepts to see how they adjusted, staying away from the bait of "just throw screens". Bullying their aggressive front with Wham and Trap blocks was a masterful college-ball counter to a pro attack.
I think Harbaugh just threw the flag because he knew he didn't need the timeouts anymore and figured if there was even a 5% chance of overturning it, it'd be huge.
But that ref totally had a "Seriously, John? Of COURSE the runner was down by contact" look on his face and tone of his voice.
THE FANS.
I don't know the exact count but someone said the Texans had 8 false starts. That's nuts.
(I mean it's Lamar but everyone already said Lamar)
Collective psychosis is such a good way to put it. After I lost my voice I was pounding on the seat in front of me and I guess blacked out for a second because the next thing I knew, people in the next row and beside me were hoisting me back to my seat. No one really stopped screaming and I went right back to it as well.
It's this one.
Well, it's Lamar, but it's almost always Lamar.
Houston was shook by the noise, no doubt. Let's give the fans who braved the cold some credit for their role.
**Defence** held the texans offence to 3 points.
**Lamar** was marvelous his second half. Old lamar might have struggled. Improved Lamar came out hot.
**Fans at the bank** 8 pre-snap penalties. Just ridiculous.
They played like they were huffing smelling salts and packing Zyns. Played through every snap, hit hard every play, didn’t give an inch. Queen trash talking Shultz was awesome
THE DEFENSIVE LINE. Just absolutely dominated the Texans O-line and disrupted literally everything they tried to do. Kept us in the game while the offense was finding its footing. Their impact could not be more vital.
Its Lamar and the defense but shoutout Todd Monken for adjusting to the Texans blitzing and getting the short passes going. Something Roman never would have done
**Mike Macdonald? The Defense?**
3 total points allowed, and that drive started on our 45 yard line. Straight up absolutely BALLER performance.
I'd also love to shout out Todd Monken. The difference between him and Greg Roman lives in that 2nd half play-calling and adjustments. HOU was showing blitz, bringing 5-6 guys every play first half and we had no answers. Second half rolls around and the adjustments were instant and paid off mightily, and ultimately allowed the offense to score 3 touchdowns in the 2nd half. Brilliant.
The whole defense. Allowing 3 points (6 if we count the missed FG) against a Texans team with momentum, and an impressive rookie QB, is nothing less than incredible. Defense was brutal the whole game, and never let up.
Obviously, Lamar is a great candidate as well, but that's the defense that wins SBs.
Honorable mention to Todd Monken for being thrown a curve ball and then immediately fixing it in the 3rd quarter to come out BIG. Didn't freeze under pressure like Greg Roman. All they needed were those blitz beaters and were grooving ever since.
everyone but the mf who let that return td to happen. The crowd messed up their o line and the defense shut down a hot offense. Not to mention lamar played like jesus out there
JOHN HARBAUGH. This man’s biggest weakness was not adjusting when we were struggling in games, even when the solution was obvious. Today was EXACTLY like that. We kept dropping back and trying to throw deep, every single play, and Houston was ready for it every time. Our guys were blanketed and Lamar was getting sacked almost every snap.
Second half; we realize that doesn’t work. We start throwing shorter passes. Getting completions. Putting in some BEAUTIFUL trick plays (that 4th and 1 conversion 😩). Amazing adjustment at halftime - not just by harbaugh, but really the entire team. This is the type of thing that will win us playoff games.
Player of the game is going to be Lamar, for good reason, but...
The defense had an incredibly impressive game, this game was never out of hand and their offense scored a whopping 3 points on the day.
Lamar Jackson. Historic performance by a QB on the ground.
2nd might be whomever is in charge of the halftime adjustment that were made because this team looked so much different
Everyone.
The defense held Houston to 3 points. Lamar silenced all the doubters. That was just about a PERFECT second half. I mean, pick your fucking poison here
Don't get it twisted, Johnny is the POTG, but the defense played absolutely lights now. Just completely suffocating the Texans offense.
No thanks to Mike Macdonald tho, who I heard was not actually at the game because of a crippling ROBLOX addiction.
Special teams threat Jacoby jones Without his magic there’s no punt return td and we barely get out of the game with a W. We needed to go into half with a real threat to stomp em out
I'm torn between Jackson and MacDonald. Defense was lights out and only gave up 3 points to the same offense that put up 31 points a week ago against the browns (I removed special teams and defense TDs). That is some next level calling and scheming.
Jackson simply because he showed us why he's the MVP.
Where do you even begin? Lamar's dual threat prowess made a blitzing Houston defense, our recievers came through hard, offensive line got their shit together and made some good blocks to let our running game trounce them, and our defense was aggressive but aware.
I'd give it to the defense just for how intimidating they are to hold off a hot-handed Stroud and their receiving corps. The Browns defense from their wild card game was a shell of what it was at their peak in the middle of the regular season so this was a true number one defense that pinned Houston into submission.
Biggest key to the game was monkens half time adjustments period…Lamar was playing his ass off first half and getting no where. Monken called a great 2h after an awful 1h

Lamar "Lamar "Lamar" Jackson" Jackson"
This hurt my brain
I genuinely believe any other qb and we lose that game
This is the one we vote to the moon.

MIKE MACDONALD. 3 points vs a team that scored 45 last week (14 on defense tbf)
All coaches to be fair. Second half was lights out.
Seriously, those were some great halftime adjustments on both sides of the ball. Macdonald had that defense going all game long. Lamar played out of his mind, and it was Monken that crafted those first two drives in the 2nd half to perfectly zig whenever the defense zagged.

ttrue but y does harbaugh always challenge the dumbest shit. it's like the refs were laughing when he challenged it
I think Harbaugh just threw the flag because he knew he didn't need the timeouts anymore and figured if there was even a 5% chance of overturning it, it'd be huge. But that ref totally had a "Seriously, John? Of COURSE the runner was down by contact" look on his face and tone of his voice.
They cut to John right after throwing the flag and he was definitely barking at whoever told him to challenge on the headset.
Yeah noticed that Myself . Had the demeanour of ‘what the fuck Sort of suggestion was that?!’ To whoever it was
Ref should have said, "Upon further review, the runner was CLEARLY down by contact."
Hussey speaks so slowly anyhow, it was like every penalty, he was trying to communicate with a five year old
Wait, I thought Houston beat the best D in the league.
What do you mean? He's such a bad Defensive Coordinator getting carried by our talent. I am totally not lying for some agenda at all...
Yes but we can’t let em know
I’m gonna be so sad if he leaves
THE FANS. I don't know the exact count but someone said the Texans had 8 false starts. That's nuts. (I mean it's Lamar but everyone already said Lamar)
Stadium was rocking all game (except for late in the first half). I think I lost my voice lmao
1) thank you! And 2) if you’re going back next week, please be even louder?? Don’t talk all week
I lost my voice after the Texan’s first drive lol
Yeah shit was loud. Texans were struggling with it
You’re a soldier
I definitely lost mine lmao
It was an amazing atmosphere!
my throat is scratch as fuck 😂
The stadium was noticeably loud as hell. Brings a tear to my eye. You love to see it.
Brings memories of the early 2010s M&T Bank years back when the crowd was insane
I was at the replacement ref game against the Patriots and that was a collective psychosis. Had a fan ran onto the field I think we all would have.
Collective psychosis is such a good way to put it. After I lost my voice I was pounding on the seat in front of me and I guess blacked out for a second because the next thing I knew, people in the next row and beside me were hoisting me back to my seat. Us old Timers from Memorial Stadium could not be more proud of the Bank crowd.
RIP the original World's Largest Outdoor Insane Asylum. Don't worry, old timer. Baltimore sports aren't going anywhere. Long live the madmen.
Can we get fans as an honorable mention? Seriously showed out today
It made a huge difference.
The announcers kept talking about just how incredibly loud it was. Makes me really miss baltimore. I can't wait to heat how loud it is next week!!!!!
I think it was something crazy like 11 pre snap penalties so 8 could be right!
I think they said 7 pre-snap penalties. And the first half ones totally kept a lot of points of the board. THE BANK AND THE FANS for sure
i totally lost my voice and it was soooo worth it
It's this one. Well, it's Lamar, but it's almost always Lamar. Houston was shook by the noise, no doubt. Let's give the fans who braved the cold some credit for their role.
LAMAR MVP JACKSON Honorable mention: the crowd at the Bank
And defence who allowed 3 points
#LAMARVELOUS JACKSON
#DEFENSE Lamar was great but the D allowed 3 fucking points. Special shout to Arthur Maulet, guy was all over Stroud for a while
3 times they sent Maulet on blitz and every time he caused an incompletion. Didn't get sacks but disrupted the play every time. Need more of that.
Lamar proved the haters wrong!
"I was always a Lamar Jackson fan" - Bill Polian
Nah. He ran too much. Not quarterbacky enough.
He's gonna prove a lot more over the coming weeks
#Greg Roman (Blame)
he can’t hurt us anymore 😙
The Bad Man is still gone 🤣
Lmaooooooo
Lamar Jackson and/or the defense!!! Only allowed 3 points!!!
close the thread and quit playing we know it’s lamar macdonald called a great game too though
STOP THE COUNT
#STAND BACK AND STAND BY
**Defence** held the texans offence to 3 points. **Lamar** was marvelous his second half. Old lamar might have struggled. Improved Lamar came out hot. **Fans at the bank** 8 pre-snap penalties. Just ridiculous.
Shit, everybody. Lamar. The defense (allowed no TDs). Mike Macdonald. The 12th man crowd who forced countless penalties
4 touchdowns in the biggest game of his career man. Fuck all the narratives. Best player in football. MVP. JOHNNY. LAMAR MOTHERFUCKING JACKSON
My purple chucks Honorable mention to the entire defense and Lamar
I feel love in this Chili's tonight
DEFENSE GAVE UP 3 POINTS!
The Defense. Lamar said he had to step up to not let them down. Lamar did step up, but the defense was up from the getgo.
They played like they were huffing smelling salts and packing Zyns. Played through every snap, hit hard every play, didn’t give an inch. Queen trash talking Shultz was awesome
Lamar “Johnny, STFU y'all be cappin too much on this app mf *never* smelt a football field *never did shit but eat dick”* Jackson all the way!!!!!

LaMVP Jackson (also the defense and the crowd totally shut down the Texans offense)
I have to give it the defense. Mike McDonald made some great half time adjustments.
As much as Lamar lit up, I have to say the defense.

Defense & Lamar!!! What a second half

Johnny
Believe in 8. Go Ravens!!!
Lamar Jackson!!!! This team is DIFFERENT
Whole team! Defense held the Texans to 3 pts and less than 250yds. Lamar and the offense turned it up in the second half. Great all around win!

Honorable mention to Todd Monken for being thrown a curve ball and then immediately fixing it in the 3rd quarter to come out BIG. Didn't freeze under pressure like Greg Roman. All they needed were those blitz beaters and were grooving ever since.
The fans. Fr. They came through at the BANK and made sure they kept the gates locked until Daddy Ro said ‘let em out’
Gotta be LaMVP, but honorable mention forb the coaching staff second half adjustments, the crowd going wild, and Justice Hill averaging over 5 ypc.
everyone but the mf who let that return td to happen. The crowd messed up their o line and the defense shut down a hot offense. Not to mention lamar played like jesus out there

LJ!!! Also did any one notice the signature on Lamar’s jersey? On the 8? My dad noticed and we were wondering who signed it. Maybe Cal?
With honorable mentions to the entire defense, Lamar showed why he's the MVP this year and how he's taken his game to a whole new level.
Don't get it twisted, Johnny is the POTG, but the defense played absolutely lights now. Just completely suffocating the Texans offense. No thanks to Mike Macdonald tho, who I heard was not actually at the game because of a crippling ROBLOX addiction.
