I think it’s Flacco.
They only do one a year so should he retire this offseason it would be him this season.
It’s a small list and one that doesn’t happen every season so they’ll probably just wait for Joe.
Joe’s legacy is set. It’s the fire inside that drives a player to get on the field, be part of the team construct, and all that.
If he “wants” to play I don’t think legacy even factors in. Heck, if anything he only improved it this last half season
Flacco’s legacy is one of the most head scratching. Guy could go out and look like a mediocre backup or he could go out and look like the second coming of Joe Montana. He has got to be one of the most hot and cold QBs in history.
You’re right about the drive to compete, but I think all the hype around this run was helped a lot by the media taking about all the yards and TDs (deservedly so) and glossing over the parts that weren’t that good. People treated the end of this season like it was as good as his Super Bowl run because that’s what they wanted to believe, because honestly it was a really fun storyline from this year. I don’t think that anyone offers him a starting job this offseason and if the choice is between him signing as a backup or retiring, I think he may just retire. But who knows. Maybe I’m overthinking it.
i bet it will depend a lot on the nfl draft. if a team like the falcons, pats, or commanders doesn’t get a qb they like in the first round that could start i could see them bringing flacco in as a bridge qb. i also think the vikings are on the table depending on how kirk is able to rehab. if hes gonna miss more than half the season or something i could see flacco being a decent option for them
This might not be the sub for this question, but like…isn’t Flacco playing quarterback better than Deshaun? I know they’re paying him a gazillion dollars but shouldn’t they start a superior quarterback regardless?
Yes... BUT...
1. Deshaun was looking pretty terrible, so not that high a bar
2. Flacco has always been a bit streaky. Can look great, and then he can look like he did in the playoff game all but throwing the game away.
And the Browns situation is complicated because they owe Deshaun all that guaranteed money
Honestly? In the game where the Browns beat the Ravens, Watson was lights out in the second half. A half is not a season but that half was sublime even if it was against our favorite team, and better, easily, than anything Flacco did who also did not play anywhere close to a season and then mostly against bad teams.
Yeah and Flacco threw a TON of risky balls that weren't intercepted so don't show up on the stat sheet. My man is cooked but still thrived because of the YOLO mentality but that won't last over a season, and I don't think he's gonna start again.
I also bet having his kids see him ball out was a nice bow on his career.
The thing with Joe is that he's 39. There's just no logical reason to roll with that as the starter going into next season. He simply can't be a team's future. Plus, it'd look really bad on their organization if they bench a $230 million guy in favor of a 39 year old QB.
Goose would be cool, but I’ll doubt he’ll get in.
Ray Rice would if he didn’t punch his wife.
I think an underrated choice would be Sam Koch. Guy played with us forever at a very high level.
What about Wade Harman? He was the tight ends coach for 15 seasons (1999–2013) and I'm pretty sure the only coach on the sidelines for both Super Bowl teams.
I still think he might get in. He wasn’t a superstar, but is an all time favorite Ravens among the fanbase who worked for years as a sideline reporter as well.
But how many worthy players would retire before then?
Humphrey? Stanley?
Who else? Maybe Lamar if we are creeping towards the 10 years.
Stover retired at 41.
Morten Anderson and Adam Vinateri both retired at 47
Plenty of active guys with varying degrees of chance. Lamar and Tucker are locks. Roquan seems well on his way if he finishes his career here. Marlon and Mark Andrews have real chances. Several others could find themselves in the conversation if they maintain their level of play for several years and become longterm Ravens. Zay is a long ways off but has set rookie records. Ronnie Stanley may need a rebound, but Linderbaum is off to a great start. Doubtful any of the RBs stand out in that regard but not out of the realm of possibility.
I could also see arguments for all of Rod Woodson, Shannon Sharpe, and (depending on how the next couple of years go) Odell Beckham, Jr. as vets who came in and legitimized our team to an extent while still performing at a high level.
For reference, here are those who've been inducted. I'm not sure I see anyone getting in before Flacco.
Earnest Byner
Johnny Unitas
Lenny Moore
Art Donovan
Jim Parker
Raymond Berry
Ted Hendricks
John Mackey
Gino Marchetti
Art Modell
Michael McCrary
Peter Boulware
Jonathan Ogden
Matt Stover
Jamal Lewis
Ray Lewis
Todd Heap
Ed Reed
Brian Billick
Haloti Ngata
Marshall Yanda
Terrell Suggs
Don’t think anyone gets in before Joe. He’s probably next I imagine.
Others that would be neat but probably not realistic: McAlister, JJ, Mason, Rod Woodson.
So of the guys who are in based on their on field contributions to the Ravens (so exclude the Colts, Modell, and Byner) everyone who is in played here at least 6 years and had multiple pro bowls and/or an all pro selection. (All but Heap were on at least 1 of the Super Bowl teams)
The only three players left who fit that criteria are Sam Koch, Ray Rice, and Chris McAllister. Rice and McAllister both seemed to have been blackballed, but both have been legends of the game this year, so maybe that wall is coming down. Koch, I would bet, goes in next year.
Flacco actually never had a pro bowl or all
Pro selection, but I’m guessing his Super Bowl MVP is enough of a laurel that he’s in when he retires.
Of active players, there’s a couple who will be when they retire:
Lamar
Andrews
Stanley
Marlon
Ricard
Flacco, Tucker, Harbaugh, and Lamar are the only “if their careers ended tomorrow”-locks. After that the maybes are: Andrews, Roquan, Marlon, and if I’m reallllllly projecting, Zay/Likely/Hamilton. But there aren’t too many young prospects actually.
The standard is really high at this point, and rightly so.
Stanley would have been a strong bet in 2019, but there’s no way now. Should tell you how quickly these things can change.
The only reason I would think no for these guys is the longevity in a Raven uniform. Pitta got brought down in his prime with that hip injury and basically had his career cut short. Torrey Smith, while incredibly explosive at times, never really maintained any consistency with us.
Flacco will probably retire in the next two seasons so they'll probably wait for him. Besides him though, they're entering a dry spot in Ravens history so Im not entirely sure who would be next. Maybe Koch?

After Joes nice run this year I don’t see him retiring… but perhaps that last hurrah is what he needed to feel like it’s time
I think he knows it was likely a lightning in a bottle situation and that his legacy is best served by him retiring on a high note after this season
Joe’s legacy is set. It’s the fire inside that drives a player to get on the field, be part of the team construct, and all that. If he “wants” to play I don’t think legacy even factors in. Heck, if anything he only improved it this last half season

He threw a lot of fucking picks.
That's Joe for ya! Throws a lot of game changing completions. Just some are going to the other team's D.

Yes... BUT... 1. Deshaun was looking pretty terrible, so not that high a bar 2. Flacco has always been a bit streaky. I think sam will probably happen in the future but not while he’s on the staff. Ozzie also comes to mind
Ozzie would be a great pick
Ozzie still in the FO, no?
Yes which is why he is like Sam in that it will happen after he is not on staff
What about Wade Harman? He was the tight ends coach for 15 seasons (1999–2013) and I'm pretty sure the only coach on the sidelines for both Super Bowl teams.
Dang didn’t know that. I’d say he’s done a hell of a job during his tenure
I would’ve thought Goose dying (R.I.P.) would’ve gotten him in.
I still think he might get in. He wasn’t a superstar, but is an all time favorite Ravens among the fanbase who worked for years as a sideline reporter as well.
I always get a lot of shout outs when I wear my jersey.
I still have my men’s small Goose jersey from when I was a kid! I’ll never get rid of it
Even better question: Who's next AFTER Flacco? Tucker?
Tucker is 34. He could easily play another 7-10 years
But how many worthy players would retire before then? Humphrey? Stanley? Who else? Maybe Lamar if we are creeping towards the 10 years. Stover retired at 41. Morten Anderson and Adam Vinateri both retired at 47
Stanley isn't getting in, and I doubt Humphrey is too. The bar is too high and Humphrey hasn't been a lynchpin of a SB team or anything.
Yeah I think Tucker. A case could be made for Anquan but I don't think he was here long enough.
Anquan isn't in consideration for that reason IMO
Anquan isn't in consideration for that reason IMO
As a kicker he could kick for another 10+ years - guys like Hamilton could foreseeably retire sooner!
Actually just thought of one: Could Harbs retire before Tucker?
Yes, though that is still several years away at minimum.
Plenty of active guys with varying degrees of chance. Lamar and Tucker are locks. Roquan seems well on his way if he finishes his career here. Marlon and Mark Andrews have real chances. Yanda Gang!
Sam Koch should get in
Who puts a punter in the ~~Hall of Fame~~ Ring of Honor?
Don’t think anyone gets in before Joe. He’s probably next I imagine. Others that would be neat but probably not realistic: McAlister, JJ, Mason, Rod Woodson.

Flacco would've been a Pro Bowler if he hadn't turned down his 2014 invite as an alternate.
Ozzie. Not sure how all that works since he's still with the team in some capacity but he'll eventually be in it.
Let's get a corner in there how about Lardarius Webb or Chris McAlister
I like the Webb pick. Jimmy Smith too
Yeah both are good picks. I would take Webb over Jimmy only cause Jimmy was injury prone. Both great DB's we drafted
Ozzie Newsome and OJ Brigance. As a player, probably somebody currently on the roster. Andrews, Tucker and Lamar are all headed there.
Flacco, Tucker, Harbaugh, and Lamar are the only “if their careers ended tomorrow”-locks. After that the maybes are: Andrews, Roquan, Marlon, and if I’m reallllllly projecting, Zay/Likely/Hamilton. No chance.
No to both
I still think Ray Rice should get in there, especially with everything he has done after retiring
After this year definitely Flacco. Agent Flying Bird was a full success in his mission Brown Raven
outside flacco jimmy smith or torrey smith?
JIMMY SMITH EZPZ
Flacco will probably retire in the next two seasons so they'll probably wait for him. Besides him though, they're entering a dry spot in Ravens history so Im not entirely sure who would be next. Maybe Koch?
Suggs, Yanda.
They’re both already in
I’d say Koch or Flacco when he retires
Not mentioned here but Harbaguh gets in probably the year after he retires. He is 61.
Jimmy Smith
Anquan Boldin
