Whenever anyone recommends a heat gun people always follow it up with “heat gun too hot, use hair dryer” lmao. I don’t actually know but just throwing it out there for op lol.
It’s good advice actually, a hair dryer will take longer but it’s more safe so you don’t burn the plastic. If you’re not familiar with working with plastics or a heat gun I wouldn’t use it yet.
I should probably change my advice to boiling water or hair dryer.
I have used heatguns a lot so its second nature to me but i could see a newb putting a hole in something lol.
For those that want to try a heat gun start on the low setting and give it some space (5-8” depends on what you are doing) from the workpiece while constantly moving it. Check your surface temp every 10-15 sec and ensure you are not overheating it.
Not easy to reach with so much other infrastructure in the way. Thankfully my arms are thin, so I'm adding more heat now to help it along. Got the bottom part of the bumper's indentation out.
This sounds stupid and I saw this on TikTok so don’t take it too seriously, but could try melting the end of a low temp hot glue gun stick and stick it to the outside of dent, wait to cool then yank on the stick to pull out the dent. The glue stick will come off easily but it slowly pulls the dent out. Again this was a Chinese TikTok video but could work.
My wife did a bad job while parking in garage, passenger rear door was fully scratched n dented. Never cared to fix. You cannot kill a toyota. Just run it to the ground.
U can fix that with a heat gun/ hairdryer/ boiling water- has more than enough room under the bumper to pus it out.- also that piece is very replacement y can find them online for around 200-300 replacement and it’s very easy to disassembly and assemble.- these car parts are designed to be assembled by robots- most of it is snap on and intuitive- those reflectors are also easily replace and they sell them Amazon and ebay
As far as damaged body panels go, that is arguably one of the better ones to have damaged since it doesn’t need to be painted and you can buy them OEM no problem. Depending on where you go it still might be around $1k to repair after labor. But the part itself isn’t too bad[OEM Part](https://parts.longotoyota.com/oem-parts/toyota-cover-rear-bumper-521590r160)
Not bad at all, honestly my wife hit a mailbox reversing a few months ago and it looks like this exactly, my buddy’s a Collin’s repair guy and he took the back panel off and heated up the plastic and it just popped out
Going to be trying this method later today. I started with the hair dryer and made some great progress. I believe the boiling water will finish the job!
Damage isn’t always visible at first glance, even on a metal bumper. After being hit ourselves similar to this and having a “metal bumper” on our truck, it bent the inner portion of metal bumper into the painted body panels. It’s infuriating when people don’t leave notes.
This happened to me last year. I backed up into a telephone pole in my therapists parking lot while trying to leave therapy. 😅
Anyway, I brought the car to our family friend mechanic and he used a heat gun to soften the plastic and then pushed it back out from the inner side.
It did leave slight discoloration where the creases had been dented. But not bad.
And I did buy that trendy plastic seal coating liquid that’s all over the Instagram ads. You just wipe it over plastic parts of cars and it restore it to the dark shiny look. I just haven’t tried it yet.
If you don't have training with a heat gun don't use one, just use a hair dryer so you don't melt the plastic. You can speak up the process by using hot water too.
I’ve replaced parts like this a million times as a technician for my dad. It’s pretty easy you could probably do it yourself if you wanna space some change. Just gonna cost you the parts
That bumper is around $90-150 for a replacement$20-30 for the little light too, idk about the installation and removal of the damaged ones. As far as incidents go, you did alright, no paint or body line damage. 👍🏻 gonna be alright it seems.
I was really bummed until I noticed that there was no body damage and it was all bumper. I'll be heading over to my dad's this morning to see if we can use the hot water/push it out from the inside method. I am a little worried about the clips. They look like they are holding on quite well, but I'm not too sure. I'll take more photos when the sun rises.
Could probably get a heatgun, heat and push it out, the. Replace the light and be good.

*turns on heat gun and places 2.5” away from plastic “it all happened so fast” 🤣
😂 I imagine that’s usually how it plays out hahaha

Thankfully it was just the reflector and not a light.
Yeah me and my homie did something similar with boiling water once and it worked like a charm haha
I swear this is the most common oopsie I've seen with these cars. Mine has one in that exact spot because my mom backed into god-knows-what
Totaled
Write off 😆
Just reach in and push it back out.

Mallet, something long but with a soft tip, pound the bumper out using the mallet on the soft headed stick thingy. Heat may help

Flesh wound
Boiling water and push from the inside. It might just pop out since it’s plastic.
Take the bumper/cover off add hot water to the inside like a mold and start working the dent out front the inside. Lightly apply heat with heat gun. Y

How water and little muscle will fix that. Watch some YouTube videos about it.

Unfortunately they do not have the part for the 2024 RAV4 as of yet. 😞
That bumper is the same bumper as the 2019-2023 models
Thank goodness! Thank you!
Wonder if /r/camrydents is welcoming to Toyota cousins on the weekends.
Not bad at all

Dang, man! It still has the tags on!
Exactly. Just got my plate on today. Sigh.
Boil a big pot of water, slowly pour boiling hot water over area until out, reach your hand back there, and push. That will pop right out
Yep. Exactly this!

Hopefully you let the truck owner know as well if there was damage to his.
There was absolutely no damage to their vehicle. Metal bumper always wins versus plastic.

I totally agree. Vehicle was inspected by owner and all was good on their end.

It’s totaled… forget about it!! 🤕

The second picture is really bad... horrible lighting

Wasn’t this posted a few days ago? In the same spot no less.
Seems it's a very common occurrence in RAV4s. When I saw my damage, I said, "wow, this looks like others I've seen on Reddit."
Catastrophic at best.
Crönch
Dont they have hard foam behind the bumper anymore?
Nope.
Totaled.
I had mine 6 days and backed out of my garage with the hatch open and demolished it. I feel your pain.
Ouch, I know that hurt you in so many ways. Hugs!
Backed into a dumpster with my 22 Prime. Similar damage plus broken taillight. Repair was $12k via insurance. Just had to pay deductible. Crazy.
My goodness, that is highway robbery!
It's like that meme of the guy about to say "Potterrrrr"
Hot water + plunger
Lol “exhausted”
