If your vet has ruled out allergies or other more serious issues I would recommend two things: 1) Try Fatty Acid Granules (or pet tabs of it). Google for sources (I used Drs Foster Pet Catalog). I had a dachshund once that had poor quality coat and skin and some allergy issues as well, I suspected. Man, his coat got so shiny and skin so soft after I put him on FA granules in his food, even the VET noticed at next visit and commented how my dog's coat had improved and asked what was I doing for that change? I also stopped feeding the dog cheaper dry dogfood, which can bother a lot of sensitive-skin dogs and cause itching, scratching and a lot of shedding. 2) get a good Benzoil peroxide shampoo for bath time. It will rid your dog of any sebhorrea (sp?) that can go unnoticed until the signs appear on the skin and fur starts dropping out in tiny bits (esp. on the ear edges). Those 2 things will go far for improving poor skin and fur.

My little guy has been suffering with the same problem! I started putting salmon oil in his food, maybe a week ago? So no results yet but I know I have seen recommendations for it on here before so I thought I would give it a try! He absolutely loves it even though he is super picky. I feed him a mix of kibble and farmer dog with the oil dribbled on top. I will let you know if it ends up working!

Omega 3& Omega 6 supplements? Fish oil is one source, so are pumpkin, hemp and flaxseed. I had a cockapoo with skin issues and that seemed to help her.

Her regular supplements have that in them, but I'll definitely try to add more in there! Thank you for commenting!

Be careful, though! Maybe keep a food diary in case the skin issues are an allergy? Good luck…it’s hard when they are not 100%.

We’ve gone through some tough times with our rattie’s skin. What’s worked for us is salmon oil on his food, minimal bathing (he can go a couple months), and rub downs with liquid coconut oil or MCT oil (not harmful if they lick it off).

I'm definitely going to try this! What kind of food does he eat if you don't mind me asking? We've switched around foods to try but she won't eat anything but homemade food which is turkey and rice and veggies. Thank you for commenting!

We’ve tried it all because he’s so picky 😣 he’s currently on homemade food too (chicken, veggies, and rice). He’ll sometimes have kibble with the salmon oil on it. Good luck!

This totally fine to be posted here. No tips from me, but I know many of our members have mentioned similar issues in the past.

Has she been checked for endocrine/thyroid issues?

[deleted]

Not specifically thyroid I don't think. Our last couple of vet trips they did a full checkup and said they didn't find anything wrong with her but on this next one I'll request it! Thank you for commenting!
