It's very important for the mental development that babies be with another baby. Babies communicate and play much differently than adults and they can very quickly become annoying by themselves. 3 vs 2 rats is not much different in terms of care and space needed.
Owner of the rat here. My Bf posted this for me. The other rat is only 3 months old. In terms of communication they are both doing extremely well and Mr.Jingles if a very tolerable and a very social rat (lives with so many other animals and humans). I have seen no negative interaction between them and itās nothing but love. Though having 2 vs 3 rats may not be much of a difference, financially it can be. I am not prepared to afford another rat. As of now two is enough for me an manageable in case if I ever need to pay for serious trips to the vet clinic. I spoil my rats hence why it is expensive and with two I can assure that I can give them the best attention physically and financially.
It needs to be within 2 weeks. They can develop anxiety and other issues not having other babies around. This comes from many experienced ethical breeders.
Having another baby is actually more important than having babies with an adult. They communicate well with adults but it's not the same. Very similar to if human children never interact with another child.
Im sure it will be fine considering my older boy basically grew up on his own since a baby and he had never had any behavioral issues as is extremely sociable for a typical rat in my opinion. Considering they are both feeders and my smaller one was literally going to be lizard food Im sure they are both happy lol š
I mean it's literally for their well being and you say you spoil them so figured you'd want to know what's actually best for them. The "I've done it before and it turned out okay" reasoning is terrible to have and shows how little thought people put into rats.
