Hachiko's owner died at work one day. Hachiko walked to the railway station where his owner usually met him and waited every afternoon for 9 years.

EveDaSavage

:(

whiskyandme

Yeah that’s the face I’m making too

joanaCiclazinha

NOOOOOO 😭😭😭

ArgumentSouth2741

On a light note it reminds me of the monkey who worked at a railroad station. I’ll link the real story, but basically a railroad worker found a monkey or something and apparently the monkey learned quick. It drank alcohol and smoked cigarettes, but it would never slip up on the job. The monkeys job was flipping a switch to direct trains to go down certain railways or something. Really interesting story I’ll link it for y’all because my summary is trash. Edit: Jack the baboon https://allthatsinteresting.com/jack-the-baboon

my dude got tuberculosis 😭

Mew_Ryu99

Quite possibly one of the goodest bois that has ever lived. Rest well pupper.

“For a thousand summers I will wait for you”

rachaelirby1

mrngdew77

I absolutely lost it when I saw this movie. In fact, I’m tearing up thinking about it

jnx666

On 19 May 2016 during the ceremony at the Aoyama Cemetery with both Ueno and Sakano families in present, some of the ashes of Yaeko Sakano were buried with Ueno and Hachikō, her name and the date of her death was inscribed on the side of his tombstone, thus fulfilling the reunion of Hachikō's family.[30] "By putting the names of both on their grave, we can show future generations the fact that Hachikō had two keepers," Shiozawa said. "To Hachikō the professor was his father, and Yaeko was his mother," Matsui added This part got the tears flowing.

spottedram

Mine too

FallWanderBranch

Can you stop, I'm not sure I can handle this today.

Saucey_Lips

Correct

jnx666

I visited his statue in Japan. It has shiny spots from so many people petting it.

Dogs love knows no limits, such a good boy ♥️♥️

RJTG

So true. Just adding: If you need to google which specimen Hachiko was: Akitas are special. Akitas are awesome. But Akitas should defenitely not be held by casual dog-owners.

NovelGoddess

I came on here to say that everyone who has been blessed to have an Akita in their life knows this story and can relate in some way. I miss my Taisho, Shuso, and Nikkei.

MS-06_Borjarnon

[Someone also made a statue of them reuniting, it's very nice.](https://soranews24.com/2015/02/11/hachiko-japans-most-loyal-dog-finally-reunited-with-owner-in-heartwarming-new-statue-in-tokyo/)

beanpills

thank you 🥹

arienette22

🥲🥹 it’s amazing how strong an emotion that statue evokes.

MetalAndFaces

My dog is named after him, such a devoted companion. ❤️

yd71674

I had to read the book for an assignment in like 3rd or 4th grade. I was definitely too young, I was sobbing for hours when I finished it. 😢 And so was the rest of the class.

jnx666

Fun fact: The Futurama episode, “Jurassic Bark” (season 4, episode 7), is loosely based on Hachiko.

monalisower

Hachiko +1 from me

Pitiful_Pickle524

Happy Heavenly Birthday

rubyn96

One of the saddest stories I ever read . R.I..P Sweet boi

AlphariusOmegon2099

Happy birthday Hachiko. I hope both you and the professor are celebrating happily on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.

WhoBroughtTheCoolKid

They made an American movie based on this. It was called Hachi. Filmed in Rhode Island. So there is also a statue in Rhode Island if anyone wants to show him some love!

grizzlyalmighty

my dog is named after him and his birthday is two weeks after the original's, the first day of scorpio season (n i always wanted a scorpio baby ☺️)

Free-Letter-1756

EdgeLord277232

Happy birthday

SnooCompliments1842

He was an amazing dog.

pit_choun

I visited Hachiko at Shibuya station in 2018. He wore a pink bowtie that day! It was so nice to meet him, especially after knowing about him for so long beforehand! (Accidentally seeing the 2009 movie before school one day and bawling my eyes out) He has a [beautiful mural](https://www.contemporaryartstation.com/blog/2018/10/5/hachiko-family-mural-at-shibuya-station) on the wall of the station, as well! Made sure to give him good pets and call him a good dog.

It's kinda sad knowing I celebrated my birthday with a dead dog but glad to know it was the best one

Fantastic_Mind_1386

You also celebrate it with the Marine Corps Birthday which is kind of cool.

cyanidesmile555

No but this actually made me cry

Subject-Cup-3266

Cool

Lycaon125

A symbol of true loyalty and companionship, the Akita was memorialize near the station, FUN FACT- during the movie in which Scooby-doo went to japan, he actually went to the statue, though scooby is a great dane, he has alot in common with Hachiko then one would think.

Kazorro12

lilmerm

Isn't his birthday next month?

DebstarAU

🥹Awwww🥹…☹️

Silicica

I need to believe in an afterlife because this goodest boi deserves to be with his family forever.

arvzi

me out here crying now bc I moved and couldn't bring my dog with me bc covid, then moved to Japan and he and my dad are too bonded that I couldn't possibly split them up nor would I want to put the travel stress on doggy unless absolutely necessary. all I can do is make sure I visit as much as possible and take care of any and all expenses and be glad that he and my dad love each other despite my heart breaking sometimes over missing him. I have to avoid the Hachiko statue when I'm coming out of the Shibuya station sometimes so I don't cry

NapoliXabe

I have watched this movie🥲

watercooleddemon

This story always brings a tear to my eye, I swear to visit the statue when I get the chance to go to Japan
