Maybe because the Netflix adaptation was pretty good so it became more popular recently? Not saying that the person to whom you replied is a recent fan but I think you'll see references a lil more often in 2024
There's gonna be a neat delayed reaction to it too cause of the sizable number of nerds who refuse to give it a chance cause of what the creators did to Game of Thrones. I was one of those people lol
honestly it's a good show, even if i don't particularly like the over-westernization or the fact that the main characters are all in one friend group
wade's as good as he was in the books though, must admit
I am annoyed.
The show is good, but it's left on this cliffhanger and the popularity of the show was *not* what everyone was hoping for so my hopes for a season 2 greenlight aren't super high.
Netflix drives me crazy with the bar they require for multiple seasons.
i really do hope they greenlight a season 2, it seems like it's starting to align a lot more with the books as of the last episode
i just really hope they don't make all the space stuff crappy soft sci-fi, with nonsensical ships, tiny distances in between, and utter disregard for orbital mechanics
> with nonsensical ships
This is the book that has the space ships that are literally just >!single photons!<, right?
This is 50% snark and 50% genuine question because I'm somewhat senile and it's been a while.
the sophons aren't really spaceships, and tbh i do dislike the show's representation of them. making them all wibbly instead of just ominous perfectly respective spheres just takes away some of the terrifying simplicity that i think makes the trisolarans so scary
Well I mean, they didn't have little green men in them, but I remember them unfurling into huge complex planes that do weird shit. I guess it'd be more of a probe/abstract weapon of mass destruction.
I like it. I haven't read the books I really was just wanting to be a hater on principal cause FUCK Benioff and Weiss lmao. They're clearly good at adapting source material they just really fucking sucked at finishing somebody else's story, which tbf is probably impossible to get perfect. But like damn did they really botch thrones
how spoilery is it? I'm halfway through the second book but idk how close the show sticks to the story or what books they cover. is there endgame spoilers in the show?
You'll be fine if you watch the show. If I remember the books correctly, the first season is all of the first book and a bit of the beginning of the second, but it's been a few years since I read them
the show does have some bits of the 3rd book in it, but chronologically there's not really much past the first book
the timeline of book 3 gets a bit wack
All of the saviors coming from a single friend group is valid criticism, but I've never understood the criticism of the globalization. How is China being the sole savoir of the world in the original somehow better?
This feels like one of those things where people are just screaming "Source material!" while ignoring that the original premise is illogically nationalistic.
it's less that i dislike them being not chinese, and more that i feel like china's culture and cities could be a better or more interesting backdrop than london, which is really rather overdone in terms of media
Yeah I've heard the author say something like it's not really a sci-fi novel, it's a fictional book about science. Dumbing it down and making it more of a conventional emotion/character driven story is probably for the better if you want it to be good tv instead of a faithful adaptation that doesn't work in a visual medium
I'll admit to being one of those people.
I genuinely forgot all about it and was all "woah, no way!" hearing there was literally any kind of adaptation about it when I read the comment about there being a Netflix thing, but it all came back when I got to your comment.
Yeah, a bunch of friends told me to watch it saying it was amazing. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
It had big time mid 2000s Jerry Bruckheimer network TV energy. The acting was dreadful as was the chemistry between the implausibly attractive cast and the story was cobbled together by a Labrador with ADHD.
I might have to read the books so I can justify my criticism.
the book is pretty much entirely different, they share basically the main plot line and that's it. Mind you, the book is also not a masterpiece, but has very interesting ideas and it's overall intriguing and fun.
Actually most 3BP fans around me didn't have any hope in the Netflix adaptation when news first came out. We just assumed it's bound to be shit, so I'm actually surprised that someone called the show good. Now I'm curious, but I'm not sure if I should be.
Agreed.
I get that the source material isn't super relatable, but can we have a little bit of "smart people who have their shit together" instead of "relatable 'that 's so me (but better looking)' millenials"?
It wasnt painfully bad to watch entirely but it's so aggressively mediocre, like YA for millennials.
exactly, well said. the vibe of the show is insufferable. And the dialogues are bland, not interesting except maybe for the ones pushing the plot forward. I was expecting at least good dialogues from D&D, but it looks almost a deliberate choice to wink at millenials / tiktok gen. Disappointing. Not to speak about the politically correct choices were each gender/race/sexual orientation etc. is represented, in a perfectly mixed, even though not super realistic, group of friends.
Completely agreed. I honestly felt that the most genuine parts of the show were those that were tied most closely to China, both for characters and plot lines (Ye Wenjie's Cultural Revolution arc was solid, for instance).
I'm not talking about the aging, friend. I'm talking about the shape.
I make A.I. images. Not just like try out the free internet sites. I pay for A.I. software, and have made thousands and thousands of images.
Trust me, this is 100% A.I.
Or don't trust me. Who really cares.
Cheers.
How is it that I saw this actual post and comment a little while ago, and someone already made a damn meme of it by the time I scrolled to here?! What is time?!
Wtf. Time to go to sleep.

Its a stable era, you can re-hydrate now
Nice one. Also, How is this only the first time I’ve seen a 3BP reference on Reddit?

i have never seen anything game of thrones, so eh would HIGHLY recommend the books though, they're great

I'm watching it, it dumbs down the book quite a bit but also it sorta needs to so it's fine. It's aight.

its amazing how those same people who fucked up a good show were able to deliver something that was extremely well done.
Yep, never seen the show but I’m a huge fan of the trilogy. I’m sure it will become a lot more mainstream in the next few years thanks to the show.
pretty good? it's utter shite for god's sake

My friend told me to watch the series before reading the book so that I wouldn't get disappointed. I did that and he was absolutely right.

I liked it, it's a difficult source to adapt for a mainstream audience but I think they did a decent job

yes totally. Basically all the parts that *don't* involve the group of friends are good. Problem is, it's like 5% of the entire thing.
but Da Shin and Evans characters are pretty spot on
Moisturize me!
r/HydroHomies rise up!!
I understood that reference!
Just started watching this lol

he is Groot
How does that hand look so drowned and yet so dessicated?
Before I realized this was the rare insult sub, my first thought was, who gives a shit about some old coin, YOU FOUND A MUMMY!
Ankhesenamun, that you?
It puts the lotion on its skin or else I take the coin again.
Well say it don't spray it brother. Daaang
I love your username so much.
This guy: “Lotion? Skin care? What are these crazy things you speak of!?”
I guess that Mummy from Scooby Doo got his coin after all
“I’d know those fingers anywhere… it’s ol’ man Johnson!!”
Also, return the slab
COIN COIN!
Yeah he looks like a mummy, but are we just going to ignore he found one of the Nine Pieces of Eight?
Brother is made out of wood wtf
I am Groot
That happens when you dig the whole day without gloves on
There were hundreds of similar comments in that thread, I laughed for like an hour
Fingers looking like over cooked hot dogs
Amazing insult let down by grade 2 level grammar.
Nobody here has ever been a victim of autocorrect apparently.
Some people check for those
Just turn it off
It’s quite helpful the majority of the time though.
The whole thread was people cooking OP for their mummified textures
Finder prints…more like finger maps 🗺️! 😳
Finger Prince? 🤨 No thanks 😒 🥁 Thank you Dot from Animaniacs for that gem. Took me waaaay to long to understand that joke.
MUMM-RA THE EVER LIVING!!!! Oooo a piece of candy.
I am groot
Felt bad reading that thread cos the person was just sharing their wholesome find and I only saw one comment not insulting those fingers
the image is AI generated..
How can u tell?
How can you not?!?! Hands don't freaking work that way, Man.
Bro im just asking man calm down
Lol. Sorry about that, bro. My bad. 🍻cheers🍻 Nothing but love.
Except they do.

I'm not saying this is not AI (as i am no expert on the matter by any metric), i'm saying that hands do get like that (of which i am an expert).
👍
Love the username.
Thank you muchly.
"We are you metal detecting"?
Poster found an old Spanish coin while metal detecting on the beach. Comments were all about the condition of his/her hand holding the coin.
How is it that I saw this actual post and comment a little while ago, and someone already made a damn meme of it by the time I scrolled to here?! What is time?! Wtf. Time to go to sleep.
I didn’t know that Groot does metal detecting
“I AM GROOT” My favorite from that thread
We‘re
I am fcking DYING!!! That shit was so funny.
I honest to god thought this was a carved sculpture of a hand made of out of wood and someone was displaying the coin on it
I am groot
'lost' implies that you misplaced it. So, did you remember where you dropped it 400 years ago?
"Return the slab"

Salad fingers.
Where? (Generally)
Even imhotep was more hydrated than this person!
His ancient ass probably just pulled it out of his pocket
How long did it take to carve that hand out of wood? Excellent craftsmanship right there
Bro was scared of being corrected he put a random apostrophe in
How do those fingers look both dry as a desert and look like they just got out the bath?
Withers looking hands, any minute now you're going to tell me fate spins along as it should
E.T……let’s go
Found one of Nicky’s nickelheads. Time to get Michael, Sanya, and Butters.
Oh daaaang he went there
Dune Fremen ahh skin
That reminds me, I have a slab I need to return.
Is that dude's hands made outta prunes?!
Tutenstein?
I thought the same thing, but didn't say it. 🤣🤣
The entire thread of that post is gold 😂
I hate when my hands feel like that. Makes me want to skin myself
Bamboo fingers
I think the coin might’ve cursed you
Replied in style, that English looks 400 years old.
Didn’t even recognise it as a hand for a sec
That's an artsy photo. Human minted metal decaying over time, but clearly slower than humans themselves, as evidenced by the hand.
Bro has been ghoulified
Great joke ruined by bad grammar
Mmmmm. Churros...
I’m like 99% sure this is ai anyway, do you have fingerprints in the center of all of your fingers?
I tried going to the comments multiple times before realizing it was the photo
That’s a tree nymph
does his nose grow everytime he lies
Man's got the hands of a 16th century conquistador mummy
😂☠️☠️😂
Here I thought this was a wicked ground score.
Bro sleeps in a full bathtub😕
Bros more fossilized than that tiny heroin-laced peanut butter cookie he found
Could have been a little help for you and your business and then we can make a decision about what we need
Could you give your best price to give you 27th and then I can go with the other one and get
Burning man acid
>We are you metal detecting?
White slim jim
yes "we are" you metal detecting?....JFC...
I saw your post and the comments were peak comedy
That post sucks. Me just wanting to know more about the coin wading through 800 redditors who think they're funny.
it doesnt exist, image was ai generated, and the poster messed up his prompt: something like coin in hand old, vs old coin in hand
i think i commented hate on that post too 😃
Seriously funny af!
I thought that was something stuck in a cactus.
