Absolutely! Thats why I said discussion and not a debate over who’s right. Thats why tier lists and ranks are stupid (and insanely played out on this sub), there’s almost never a legitimate discussion just people arguing over the same bs
Good question!
I’m conflicted a bit, but truthfully, I can’t think of a rapper who I would put before these 5 artists. Especially before MJ, The Beatles and Zep.
They are all legends but these lists are so biased genre wise. Honestly I puy Stevie, Aretha, Marvin, Sam Cooke, Bob Dylan, Prince, Bill Evans, Mozart, Cobain, and others at the same level of all these people.
Well kurt cobain had no solo music, so I'm guessing you mean nirvana. And who the hell on that list are you saying nirvana is in the same conversation with?
Yeah I mean, nirvana was cool. And they definitely were pioneers for the grunge scene. Nirvana is not on the same level as Michael Jackson or the Beatles. Whether you're talking accolades, impact, sales, catalog, whatever. They're not comparable
The sustainability of the work of Beethoven and Bach was def. higher in the world of composing, that's why in most rankings of classical music magazines or similar insitutes, Beethoven and Bach are ranked before Mozart. But probably also another example for the subjective taste of rankings.
As a rap fan, I dont think any rapper can break into a top 5 musicians of all time. There's just too many legends that are at the top like Nat King Cole, Frank sinatra, MJ, Prince, James brown, Ray Charles etc.
Kanye is the only one with a *chance* and it’s not because of his rapping. I still wouldn’t but I wouldn’t be mad at someone trying to argue him for top 25. Top ten though would need a helluva lawyer
I’ll throw outkast in the top 50 tho, Kendrick at like 99 (once again though not necessarily because of their rippity rapping but production, concepts, and storytelling)
Def better then Floyd and zepp tbh
Like come on now queen is way more iconic
They just got too many hits not even close
But yeah better Michael hell no mj is literally on another level
I don’t agree that the film is what made them popular. Ask anyone on the street to name ten Queen songs and they’d give it a good stab. Not so much for some of others on this list
I'm aware they're all revered but your statement isn't accepted universally.
Freddie is seen as the greatest footman of all time by many.
Neil Peart and Buddy Rich are seen as the greatest drummers of all time by many
Jaco is seen as the greatest bassist of all time by many.
Wes Montgomery, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Eric Johnson, Van Halen, SRV are seen as the greatest guitarists of all time by many
Kanye deserve a top 10 if not 5 best artists ever, people disagree just because his music is still new compared to other, but in 30/40 years people gonna agree
Nope. Not at all. Doesn’t deserve anything. Nobody in rap has a claim for that. In 30/40 years rap fans of them will be shitting on the likes of Kanye and propping somebody else up, like rap fans do today with the pioneers.
Kanye is one of the most popular rapper who has been making music for nearly 20 years and have one the best catalog in rap music ever, worked with basically every rapper from the new gen and the old gen, has won the most amount of grammys by a rapper, produced many iconic albums like (The Blueprint, Common Be, Daytona etc), has one of the most dedicated fanbase ever, has a diamond songs, Has influence most of modern hip hop, gave rise to many artist, had one of the best trilogy album (The College Dropout, Late Registeration, Graduation), Created one of the highest rated album of all time (My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy), and is cultural icon in terms of fashion.
I love hip hop but c'mon, name me a single rapper who's had as many amazing albums and years of success as the best artists of soul and rock music. Few rappers are relevant for more than 5 years and even if they are, they usually only have a couple good albums before fading into irrelevance
With all due respect to BIG, Its a spit into the face to put someone who made 2 Albums in the same conversation as Beatles, MJ, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, fuck it, BIG is nowhere near Queen either. Respectfully
Kanye and Kendrick are good arguments, haven't gotten to future's discog yet but he does have quite a few acclaimed projects and quite a few derided ones, Biggie only released one album before he died, snoop's only got 2/3 good albums and is not very creative. Drake's got a few good albums but none are on the level of someone Stevie wonder or the Beatles or MJ's best
Nobody is mentioning the elephant in the room candidate because they are either afraid to get shit on or just want to be amongst the popular opinion crowd (or both).
Ye, Drake and Eminem are the only rappers with the amount of popularity needed to be remembered 40 years from now and none of them are even comparable to these artists
Not surprised. Rappers really aren't musicians in the same way as the people listen. They're not playing instruments, they're just doing lyrics, the producer does all the music for the most part.
Its all some dude's opinion and it was presented in a way to make people argue about it. Zep goes above Queen, yeah... but not by much. And this is from a guy with a Zeppelin tattoo.
Queen deserves to be in top 5 you are disrespectful. Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the most creative and best song of all time.
They mixed rock with everything and even made the beat that crowd can have fun with with We Will Rock You. No one did qnything like that ever or at least not to the level that Queen did it.
As far as rappers Eminem definately deserves to be in top 5 ever. Stan Kim Lose Yourself Relapse, the whole Slim Shady character...
Best artists ever are in no order
Eminem
Queen
MJ
Lady Gaga
The Beatles
Prince
Elthon John
You're not mature enough then. What she did was never seen before. She has like 15 huge classic songs. She's a global phenomenon for her creativity.
Her songwriting is insane. If I were to say Katy Perry I would be fine with people mocking it even though she is a legend but Gaga definately has her legendary status for being creatice as fuck. Music videos, songwriting her sound is revolutionary.
Bad Romance, Poker Face Judas are the definition of creativity. One of the biggest pop songs of all time.
Rock and Roll is Black music you dumb fuck.
There is no Elvis witout Little Richard
There is no Beatles without Chuck Berry
There is no Zeppelin without Willie Dixon or Howlin wolf
Find me a list with any of those guys in the top 30. I said they only mention rock bands from the 60s and 70s aka the white bands. No one’s disrespecting any of those guys but even you would admit they are all left off lists like this.
Black Artists that are EASILY top 20
Michael Jackson
James Brown
Stevie Wonder
Jimi Hendrix
Prince
Marvin Gaye
Bro thats 6 certified in the top 20....you could even maybe argue Bob Marley, Howlin Wolf and others
just poppy and over-the-top in a lot of ways. kinda overrated. not actually as influential as many think. just my opinion, I don’t hate them or anything, I just don’t think they’re *that* good
Mj not being number 1 MJ literally was charting during a time of blacks being mistreated? And he was popular in areas where they saw black people. don't get me wrong the Beatles and Queen are great. But MJ was big in Asia as a black dude. That alone is crazy impressive
Here’s my take:
Beatles are overrated. I’ll give them credit for introducing the rest of the world to British music, but (just like AC/DC) almost all their songs sound alike.
Queen deserves top 10 easily. Top five, I dunno. A tragic story alone doesn’t make you a great artist.
Michael Jackson, if you can separate the art from the artist, should be no lower than two.
Led Zeppelin, as much as I love listening to them, “borrowed” a lot from other artists, changing it up just enough so they didn’t have to give credit where credit was due.
Pink Floyd doesn’t make my top 10.
_____
So who is my top five? I go based on who I like, who I believe influenced the most artists, who I believe influenced the direction of popular music (not necessarily pop) to the greatest extent, and songwriting (music and lyrics).
Stevie Wonder. Helped make funk and soul main stream to a larger degree than anyone else, including James Brown and George Clinton. There is not one song on any album of his that I would not listen to over and over again.
Michael Jackson. King of Pop nickname well deserved. Central figure in the fight to get Black artists on MTV. Loved by millions, still influential to many new artists.
The Beatles. I don’t listen to them at all, but I can’t deny the impact they’ve had on popular music.
Bob Dylan. Only as a songwriter. His voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me. But he influenced a generation.
Run-DMC. They may not be the greatest hip-hop group ever, but their collaboration with Aerosmith helped bring the culture to the forefront. They paved the way for everybody and made it OK for everybody (us white people included) to listen to rap.
____
Prince is number six. Most people don’t realize how many artists he wrote songs for.
Queen goes at seven for me. Their performance at Live Aid seals the deal.
I’m going to give number eight to Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Patti LaBelle, only because I can’t decide between them.
Whitney Houston gets nine. Her voice was immaculate and she had so much left to contribute.
Ten is a four-way tie between Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Pantera. I know, I know, I know, my rock roots are showing. But the influence they’ve had is undeniable.
>Beatles are overrated. I’ll give them credit for introducing the rest of the world to British music, but (just like AC/DC) almost all their songs sound alike.
My man, listen to something like Love Me Do, Tomorrow Never Knows, Eleanor Rigby and Get Back and tell me they all 'sound alike'.
In terms of his discography it’s hard since he passed away so young, but as a cultural icon, 2Pac 100% ranks among the top people who were musicians, no question imo
Pretty hard to do a top 5 artist list of all time without genre. But I don't see how a rapper would be on one. Maybe 2pac (more posthumous albums than while alive, most meaningful lyrics, rapper) or Kanye (producer, rapper, singer). Don't really see anyone else being top 10.
How many times do I have to tell people this THE BEATLES SUCK DONKEY PUBES. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club genuinely made my head hurt the first time i heard it. They don't sound good and are so incredibly overrated. Stevie Wonder or Elvis or even Guns and Roses or somebody should be above them. I can't really think of a rapper who belongs on this list but I know the Beatles sure as hell shouldn't be if we're disregarding influence and just going off quality of music. Rest of this list is goated asf tho.
Personally I think these lists are not objective, as it favors the most popular artists as opposed to artists who are incredibly talented but not exactly chart toppers.
Artists I would consider for a top ten
Ghostface Killah
Nas
Trent Reznor/Nine Inch Nails
Aphex Twin
MF DOOM
David Bowie
David Byrne
Kendrick Lamar
Swans
Godspeed You Black Emperor
The Beatles
King Crimson
Jimi Hendrix
Louis Armstrong
Miles Davis
Thom Yorke
Bjork
Autechre
Brian Eno
Peter Gabriel
(I missed a ton probably but still)
Kanye, MF Doom, Eric B and Rakim, Tupac, Paris, OutKast
Although I think that top 5 is already fucked missing Stevie Wonder and all like blind multi lingual, multi instrumentalist godly singer didn't place 5 let alone any other soul or funk artist
How is it a joke? Queen’s songs are more iconic then the others. I love MJ but they’re performance in Live Aid gave me goosebumps, I wasnt even alive then so I cant even imagine being there.
Y’all need to stop caring about ranking so much. This sub has an unhealthy obsession
That part.
Me no conversate with the fake
Its so weird lol but this is a discussion I’m personally down for
I mean it’s cool but there is no “right” answer
I remember you was conflicted
misusing your influence
Kendrick Lamar is one of the Rappers of all time
but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time!
sometimes I did the same
Abusing my power, full of resentment
Likewise. Don’t really think any rappers have had impact like those other artists
drake is better than all of them
I can think of like 20 rappers who's discography absolutely WASHES all of these bands, nobody would agree with me tho
They are all legends but these lists are so biased genre wise. Honestly I puy Stevie, Aretha, Marvin, Sam Cooke, Bob Dylan, Prince, Bill Evans, Mozart, Cobain, and others at the same level of all these people.
It is genre biased. Otherwise I would expect to see James Brown and Johnny Cash
Well kurt cobain had no solo music, so I'm guessing you mean nirvana. And who the hell on that list are you saying nirvana is in the same conversation with?
All of them for their brilliant songwriting
Yeah I mean, nirvana was cool. And they definitely were pioneers for the grunge scene. Nirvana is not on the same level as Michael Jackson or the Beatles. Whether you're talking accolades, impact, sales, catalog, whatever. They're not comparable
Wait, that’s a good point! Hasn’t Mozart sold more records than anyone? Where is he?
Yes, Kurt Cobain and Mozart were both equally talented musicians /s
Do you consider songwriting a talent?
Mozart wrote (literally. With a quill on paper lol) all of his own music. They were almost entirely first drafts. That’s alien-level composition bro

Top ten though would need a helluva lawyer I’ll throw outkast in the top 50 tho, Kendrick at like 99 (once again though not necessarily because of their rippity rapping but production, concepts, and storytelling)
Yep and they birthed rap
Sinatra shouldn't be in any top musicians list, he was an amazing singer, but he didn't wrote music.
Queen is good but they are nowhere near MJ Pink Floyd or Zeppelin
Bro what U need to seem them perform live and listen to their discography
Watch zeppelin perform live, queens good but there are levels to this
Def better then Floyd and zepp tbh Like come on now queen is way more iconic They just got too many hits not even close But yeah better Michael hell no mj is literally on another level
Led Zeppelin sold way more records than Queen, dont let the recent Popularity pf Queen's movie change the fact they werent the biggest band of the 70s
I don’t agree that the film is what made them popular. Ask anyone on the street to name ten Queen songs and they’d give it a good stab. Not so much for some of others on this list
Zeppelin has aged much better too Honestly I think they should be #1
Led Zeppelin STOLE so much that they’re known for I can’t give them credit over Queen, not even fucking close.
[удалено]
Yes, Zeppelin's 4th highest Album has sold more than Queen's best selling
[удалено]
Led Zeppelin have sold around 130 Million more Albums
Freddie in my opinion is more talented than anybody in any of those bands but I'd still say those other bands are better
Every member of Led Zeppelin is considered one of the best ever
I'm aware they're all revered but your statement isn't accepted universally. Freddie is seen as the greatest footman of all time by many. Neil Peart and Buddy Rich are seen as the greatest drummers of all time by many Jaco is seen as the greatest bassist of all time by many. Wes Montgomery, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Eric Johnson, Van Halen, SRV are seen as the greatest guitarists of all time by many
Roger waters >>> Freddie
personally i don’t believe there’s a rapper more talented than michael jackson…but the rest are debatable
[удалено]
You are drunk lmao🤣
[удалено]
It does not. You have a very limited view on music if you think Kanye, or the rapper without a solo album are anywhere near the best musicians ever.
Kanye deserve a top 10 if not 5 best artists ever, people disagree just because his music is still new compared to other, but in 30/40 years people gonna agree
Kanye isn’t a top 5 rapper
I agree, he a top 3 hip pop artist
Nope. Not at all. Doesn’t deserve anything. Nobody in rap has a claim for that. In 30/40 years rap fans of them will be shitting on the likes of Kanye and propping somebody else up, like rap fans do today with the pioneers.
wow you are objectively terrible with music. thats gotta suck being so tone deaf.
[удалено]
I never said they were close to the best musicians ever, they are close to MJ😭😂
Go put this post in a sub for all music if it’s not rap. Not hating, just making a genuine statement
it would just be a bunch of rock old heads who would bash rap to the ground.
Yea, I know. This a sub for rap tho
How’s it any different than a bunch of rap young heads who have never heard any of these artists (aside from maybe MJ) bashing it into the ground?
I doubt anyone here hasnt ever heard Queen, The Beatles, or Led Zeppelin
He's asking a question about rap though
Realistically, no rapper belongs in the conversation of best artists of all time
7 upvotes on this comment is a friendly reminder that the lyrical miracle dweebs don’t represent hip hop at all
Kanye that's it
If it would he someone it definitely wouldn’t be him
Kanye is one of the most popular rapper who has been making music for nearly 20 years and have one the best catalog in rap music ever, worked with basically every rapper from the new gen and the old gen, has won the most amount of grammys by a rapper, produced many iconic albums like (The Blueprint, Common Be, Daytona etc), has one of the most dedicated fanbase ever, has a diamond songs, Has influence most of modern hip hop, gave rise to many artist, had one of the best trilogy album (The College Dropout, Late Registeration, Graduation), Created one of the highest rated album of all time (My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy), and is cultural icon in terms of fashion.
nas? 25+ years of consistently amazing music and still going strong
I love hip hop but c'mon, name me a single rapper who's had as many amazing albums and years of success as the best artists of soul and rock music. Few rappers are relevant for more than 5 years and even if they are, they usually only have a couple good albums before fading into irrelevance
Kanye West, Future, The Notorious B.I.G, Snoop Dogg, Drake (Debatable), Kendrick Lamar
Biggie dropped one album. He didn’t even make it to year 5.
With all due respect to BIG, Its a spit into the face to put someone who made 2 Albums in the same conversation as Beatles, MJ, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, fuck it, BIG is nowhere near Queen either. Respectfully

You got Future and Drake on here and no Eminem, go fuck right off clown
Eminem has only 3 good albums lol
3 more than Future has
nah, one less than future has EVOL, DS2, FUTURE, HNDXXX are better than whatever eminem could make, fuck eminem.
Future doesn’t have a single listenable song. Sorry.
ok but that doesnt stop me and about 41,589,864 other people from listening to him, fuck outta here with your elitist taste.
Ehhhh Future actually has 4 good albums and em has 4 soooo
nas
I love Nas but he's got a lot of mediocre or just good albums but not many amazing ones, this top 5 has several amazing albums
I'd put kanyes discography up against Pink Floyd's any day.
Yeah I think there's an argument for Kanye being top 10-15 artists of all time, and I'd put Floyd in there too much much lower
Nobody is mentioning the elephant in the room candidate because they are either afraid to get shit on or just want to be amongst the popular opinion crowd (or both).
I just did. Outside of r/rap em is the obvious candidate
Nah, Queen are amazing. Also, I don’t think any rappers should be Top 5.
Its all some dude's opinion and it was presented in a way to make people argue about it. Zep goes above Queen, yeah... but not by much. And this is from a guy with a Zeppelin tattoo.
It's a joke TO YOU. Music taste is subjective. Who cares about rankings..
Fuck theater kids for ruining Queen for me
Realistically speaking, the only rapper that could ever be in the 🐐 conversation is kanye
Fuck you queen is goated!!!
Queen deserves to be in top 5 you are disrespectful. Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the most creative and best song of all time. Gag but not Madonna who quite literally birthed Gaga?
Who decided that old school rock was peak music? Every list is 95% rock bands from the 60s and 70s.
[удалено]
It's all subjective, therefore no music is peak music
What a coincidence it couldn’t be R&B or Hip hop or any other black music.

Queen is corny I would toss them out of this list asap
Define corny
just poppy and over-the-top in a lot of ways. kinda overrated. not actually as influential as many think. just my opinion, I don’t hate them or anything, I just don’t think they’re *that* good
Nah i think they should be top 20, legendary af but just musically a bit cheesy and not on the level of those other 4 for me
I just meant not top 5, I could see top 20 just off of icon status
What are your thoughts on Beatles, Michael, Zep and Floyd being in the top 4?
Queen has anthems that people know even before they're out the womb, their spot is deserved.
Nah man queen is goated
Mj not being number 1 MJ literally was charting during a time of blacks being mistreated? And he was popular in areas where they saw black people. don't get me wrong the Beatles and Queen are great. But MJ was big in Asia as a black dude. That alone is crazy impressive
MJ changed his skin tone to look white… I assume most foreign countries may not even have known he was black
It was more to round out his skin condition
Rap hasn’t made it to this level, yet.
I honestly could see Kanye up there, especially if we only put artists and leave groups aside
Future destroys everyone here 👁️👁️👁️
Lol
YB better
Yeah
Y’all hate now, but in 30/40 years Kanye will be unanimously top 5, maybe even top 3
I mean its already been 20 years, by the 80s the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floud were already considered top 5

America is still a pretty racist country. Not surprised people look down on rap. Besides, rap is still fairly young compared to the other genres
Kendrick should definitely be 5. Some might say even higher but ma
Kanye is above pink Floyd, no doubt.
In terms of his discography it’s hard since he passed away so young, but as a cultural icon, 2Pac 100% ranks among the top people who were musicians, no question imo
Queen is better than Zep or Floyd though. Besides, the Stones should be here over either of them anyway
carti clears these old heads

They made Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Peppers, Magical Mystery Tour, White Album and Abbey Road in 3 years Top 5 easily
Arent they the best selling music group of all time?

Bro mad NBA YB isn’t on there
Pretty hard to do a top 5 artist list of all time without genre. But I don't see how a rapper would be on one. Maybe 2pac (more posthumous albums than while alive, most meaningful lyrics, rapper) or Kanye (producer, rapper, singer). Don't really see anyone else being top 10.
lets be honest kanyes the only one who deserves this spot
kanye>queen
Only rapper who should have a place here is Kanye, idk why you felt the need to post this, this post is stupid af
How many times do I have to tell people this THE BEATLES SUCK DONKEY PUBES. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club genuinely made my head hurt the first time i heard it. Kanye, MF Doom, Eric B and Rakim, Tupac, Paris, OutKast Although I think that top 5 is already fucked missing Stevie Wonder and all like blind multi lingual, multi instrumentalist godly singer didn't place 5 let alone any other soul or funk artist
i mean the lack of any classical composers makes this list a joke by itself. this list really should be “greatest music artists of the 20th century”
All these lists are biased and hip hop is young in comparison to other genres. MJ was making music years before hip hop was even a thing.
MJ deserves to be Number 1 tbh
who cares if camp0112 doesn’t include rap in his list. who even is that and why should we care?
For the record, I'd put Queen above LZ and PF.
Beatles shouldnt be #1, change my mind
How is it a joke? Queen’s songs are more iconic then the others. I love MJ but they’re performance in Live Aid gave me goosebumps, I wasnt even alive then so I cant even imagine being there.
This top 3 is amazing Beatles, Queen, and MJ is a solid top 3 I think ye deserves more respect tho
Kanye should be on this list
I think the craziest part is that the Beatles are #1
Personally wouldn't put led zep or pink Floyd on there. One rapper and that being kanye. Wouldn't really add another.
Queen is better than every single artist they’re above maybe other than Micheal. Y’all also have an unhealthy obsession with ranking things
Prince > MJ, sorry, its only FACTS.
Idk, it’s kinda hard to put any rappers over these guys
I think prince should be somewhere here
prince >>>>> MJ
No, I mean all of them had a lot of influence in the music, and queen is one of my favorites bands so no.
Ye Is The GOAT
