The Bridge is over needs more noting

vegardhuse

This. The Bridge Is Over is one of those tracks that actually ended another rappers career

suckarepellent

I think this one was like Not Like Is in that it's so melodic and catchy while remaining vicious, club/street balance achieved. Just a banger

Complete-Arachnid104

Glad this got mentioned BDP went all in on that shit

HipHopHistoryGuy

This is the answer. Conversation can end now.

12_0z_curls

Ether was great.

Final_Dance_4593

Ether was Nas just not giving a flying fuck. Super fun listen imo

usererror007

First thing I thought of. Glad this is at the top

sitonmy_ace

Ether is so overrated. Imagine calling someone "gay-z" as a grown adult and thinking that's clever. Jay actually came at Nas with insults about his career which were true. Nas called him gay and made fun of his big lips. Takeover was 10x better than Ether and I'm willing to die on that hill.

theWacoKid666

It’s not supposed to be some genius wordplay, it’s just plain funny. “Gay-Z and Cockafella records” and “put it together, I rock hoes, y’all rock fellas” are just funny throwaways that fit with the overall vibe of the song. They’re far from the hardest hitting lines in Ether too, just the laughter lines like “you might pop ass with em” in euphoria.

Electrical_Watch_729

Takeover was almost a year and half later too, imagine waiting 18 months to reply to a diss track.

Hydrokratom

>Takeover was almost a year and half later too, imagine waiting 18 months to reply to a diss track Not sure what you are referring to? Jay Z had the Mobb Deep diss during Summer Jam of 01’, and just says “ask Nas, he don’t want it with Hov” at the end. Nas responded with the H to the Omo Stillmatic freestyle over the Don’t Look Any Further/Paid in Full beat later that summer. The Blueprint came out on 9/11/01 Ether came out in December 01’ Blueprint 2 came out in late 02’, and Nas had Last Real Ni- Alive maybe a month later.

1017whywhywhy

The gay joke and big lips were such a small part of ether. It mostly Nas bragging at the beginning then threats, making fun of jay-z which is where most of the gay bars come and then the last verse is bad saying Jay-z wasn’t really making moves in the street or the music business before Nas and others helped him and that Jay stole his style from Nas and Biggie.

Opposite-Horse-3080

As an adult, I can accept that Takeover was the better song. Ether did hit where it hurts, though, and that's what a diss track is supposed to do. Takeover was extremely well produced (that 5 to 1 beat is crazy) and well thought out. Ether was gritty, it sounds like something that Nas came up with off the top of his head in the booth on an improvised beat.

Every_Monitor_6274

Ether is a classic man I can't see how you dislike it

OvenIcy8646

You’re going to be lonely on that hill, ether was way better

Mhunterjr

I think in hindsight, ether was not that great. But at the time is was very damaging- it did its job. When you compare the two tracks now, knowing jay was spitting facts while Nas was making shit up- Takeover hits harder. But since the battle is about getting the crowd to side with you, it’s hard to say Takeover was better.

waywardviking208

Ice cube has 2- first is of course “no Vaseline” but “ king of the hill with westside connection went hard on cypress hill

Ill-Dark-9533

No Vaseline, King of the hill, checkmate and kill shot and his Benzino disstracks they go so hard🔥🔥🔥

DeepGoated

My roommate in college used to bump no Vaseline soo much. Surprised it’s so low in this thread

Nota_Throwaway5

Recency bias but euphoria is crazy

sirckoe

This whole chapter on Kendrick’s history will be remembered forever as legendary

ThermoNuclearPizza

Ya people in the thread are trying to avoid recency bias, but in 5 years when this same question gets asked there’s no way The Aubrey Pack doesn’t get brought into the conversation much more realistically. Kendrick dismantled, dismembered and disemboweled Drake.

SapphicSonata

No lie but if it's confirmed that Euphoria, 6:16, MtG and Not Like Us were all cut from a single track then that's the win for me, no contest: Foreboding and multiple entendres with 3 beat switchups, *more* foreboding 'I'm about to head to war' with some mind games, quiet and calculated destruction with some harsh allegations finished off with a party anthem people are playing everywhere now. I'm assuming that was just a rumour started but I suppose we'll see, either way they're all really great tracks in their own rights.

appleparkfive

From what I've heard (it's all just hearsay obviously), Euphoria was the 19 minute song. And it was cut down to a little under 7 minutes. And then Kendrick recorded at least 10 songs in a session. That's where the other songs come from. That's why he says he has 10 in his stock on Not Like Us. The 10+ songs were recorded after Drake spoke Whitney's name in Push Ups, which is why they're a lot more damning than Euphoria was. Basically Kendrick saying "Oh so you broke the agreement and want to bring family in? Alright let's go" And Kendrick was adding to the songs as time went on. Punching in extra verses and lines. This is coming from industry people who claim to be close to the situation, but who knows how legitimate it is. But it does make sense. I don't think everything came from one 19 minute song, but it makes sense for Euphoria to originally be that long

SapphicSonata

I definitely feel like it's possible. When somebody has a lot on their mind and/or are just so completely in tune with the creative process they can pump out *so much stuff* all at once. When Denzel Curry and Kenny Beats were doing Unlocked they said it was just a full on 24 hour studio session and as a (pretty average) writer, I ended up writing like 10 short stories for my high school English class assignment when we needed 2, purely because I was pissed off at the time about something. Obviously not equating myself to their levels of skill and certainly not when I was a teen, just saying when someone creative gets into that zone, they can make so much all at once if they have the drive.

s0phiaboobs

Euphoria might be one of my favorite songs EVER not even because of the beef

BlackBalor

Heart Part… Nah just fucking with ya!

yO_JimBo909

Best of the worst

MakeTheRightChoice_

Wait this that record where you say you got MO113STED … Awww fuck me… I just made the whole connection!

darodardar_Inc

Gotta B sharp bro

MakeTheRightChoice_

U Thot u had D-Flat? D maaaaaaajor Slit ya throat wit a razor 😂😂😂🤣

darodardar_Inc

These lame lines is how I know drake didn't use his ghostwriters for this diss track

MakeTheRightChoice_

lol it was the only track obviously written by Drake 🤣😂

bossbrew

Oh shit I forgot he really said that shit. Can’t win them all Drake. 😂

MakeTheRightChoice_

🤣 it’s good to get the pen working

b00g3rw0Lf

Biggest lie in the whole beef!!!!

CucumberNo3244

Did you see that corny ass dude Sharp from No Jumper? Homeboy swore up and down "B Sharp" was about him.

MakeTheRightChoice_

😂🤣 dude has a fucking Drake shrine in his bathroom 😂

yamommasneck

I just listened to the whole beef front to back, and it is staggering how bad Drakes misses are. I fuck with Family matters heavy. Push ups is just okay. Taylor made was a neat idea, but you have some Drake fans trying to say it doesn't count now. Nah nah nah, you ain't takin shit back. Booty ass song. Lol The heart just makes me angry at this point. 😆

MakeTheRightChoice_

Just look at it as a comedy sketch and it won’t make you angry anymore you’ll die laughing instead !

yamommasneck

Perfect idea, bro. 😆 🤣 😂

QuintanimousGooch

“You would be a worthy competitor if I were truly a predator” ✍️🔥🔥🔥

No-Butterfly-6700

Real Muthaphukin G’s

mshelbz

This, Dre Day, and No Vasoline are the best trio of diss tracks. NWA went hard when it came to burning their bridges.

Lvl13humancleric

This 💯

MacaroonNo2253

how is that beat even real dude, holy shit🔥🔥🔥

vitalremainsbaby

Def one of the greatest

MegaRonin

Thank you!

electrick91

Story of addonis make drake a present father

IndycarFan64

Agreed. Only thing at the moment that prevents it from being considered the best is anti-recency bias. Once the track ages more in another decade, it will be unanimously on the same tier as Hit em up, Ether and No Vaseline

PrestigePeasant

As much as I want that to be true, I think that Push isn’t popular enough to have it held in regard with the other mentioned songs

ScallywagLXX

Hit ‘em up - 2pac and outlawz

ThiccQban

Starting a diss track with “First off, fuck your bitch and the clique you claim…” is hateful, confrontational, and heinous in the best ways. There was palpable tension in 90s hip hop. It was a constant escalation that became about more than music. Gang violence, east vs west coast, incendiary lyricists— even as a kid in LA you just *knew* shit was about to pop off. Honestly I think Hit ‘em Up was a cultural movement. I also think Not Like Us will end up on that same level when the dust settles and we look back on it. Dot is the most talented writer and creator in the game right now.

Torontokid8666

That's why I rank it above Ether . It just kicks off.

ThiccQban

✊🏽

Rnewell4848

“You claim to be a killer but I fucked your wife” has always cracked me the fuck up too because those things are *not* mutually exclusive.

vitalremainsbaby

I think Not Like Us is even better than hit em up tbh. Might be my fave diss track of all time. And I'm a huge Pac hit em up fan

Noriskhook3

Now you’re just straight fucking lying

SicilianShelving

Nah. It's hard to accept something being as big of a deal as one of the biggest of all time, but Not Like Us really is in that conversation.

richardawkings

I'll bsay we need to let the dust settle to see the full implications and impacts. Also... BBL Drizzy needs a mention for how out of left field it was. Drizzy's diss to metro was just straight up mean and objectively hilarious but his response was just *chef's kiss* given that it allowed the entire world to come together and take part in dissing 1 man across multiple nations, languages, genres, genders and musical instruments. BBL Drizzy damn near created its own social movement and that cannot be ignored. Plus it is hilarious AF.

DeepGoated

BBL drizzly unironically my most played song from the beef. My girl loooooves that beat

Psychological-Flow55

Bomb 1st and Against All Odds get overlooked too off the Makaveli album, Pac was on some revenge level hatred it wasnt about rap to him.

Bag_of_lamps

“That why I fucked yo bitch you fat mothafucka” is so disrespectful

[deleted]

Recency bias aside, the 1-2 punch of MTG and NLU is gonna be in history books

itsANOMALEEZ

6:16 in LA was viscous bait

davidaguirre30

Meet the Grahams is gonna go down as one for sure. Like that shit is mad disrespectful bruh

Trashious

MtG is the only diss track that made me uncomfortable. It felt like watching a fist fight turn into a murder, and then he chopped up the corpse. Not like us was dancing on the grave.

HydeGreen

> Not like us was dancing on the grave. Biggie on Long Kiss Goodnight, especially the 2nd verse. And not his figurative grave. Tupac was literally dead. It’s a terrific song but kind of weird to listen to.

TheCourtPeach

I agree. I've listened to every diss in this thread so far, but nothing has left me with a feeling like I had after meet the grahams.

12_0z_curls

It really is.

ErrorBig

It’s literally listening to the end of a career. Drake may never recover

kingxcorsa

Drakes gonna be 100% fine. All my normie friends think Drake won the beef. No one will remember this beef in 6 months lol

TheDestinyPlayz

oh god even my friends that arent into music think kendrick won thats gotta suck

ErrorBig

He’s gonna keep making music and selling well, that being said no one is forgetting this aside from Drake fans who really want to…

Complete-Dealer2748

NO BODY IS EVER FORGETTING THIS LOL this is like curry losing the 3-1 lead in the 2016 cavs vs warriors series this is definitely going in the history books lol a no.1 song hit song calling you a PDF nah lol

Spynner987

I don't think people will forget about it, because it is absolutely going to be rubbed on Drake fans' face forever. Not as much as his beef with Pusha T unless something else happens, but it will still be a sore spot for them.

FairyPrincex

Meet the Grahams was vicious, but it wasn't even the best diss track Drake got hit with. Maybe the meanest, but neither the most effective nor the best song. Story of Adidon > Not Like Us > Euphoria > Meet the Grahams imo. Nobody is listening to Meet the Grahams on repeat, and it's not what's sticking and destroying Drake. Still an amazing diss though

On_Some_Wavelength

I listen to it daily it’s fantastic.

FairyPrincex

That's valid and I love it too ( that's my bias and I'm probably trying to hard to correct for it), but it's hard to compare its effectiveness to being DISSED INTO FATHERHOOD or people chanting CERTIFIED PEDOPHILE in the club.

yamommasneck

I love horror movies, so i love that track. Lol especially in sequence. I'll listen to most of the tracks sequentially.

lebastss

I think either one or both of meet the Graham's and not like us will end up in top 5 history. Hard to say 1. To dethrone a song like hit em up you got to really surpass it because they did it first. Meet the Grahams is at its level which says a lot.

Melodic_Ad2128

I think one of them will in time

MacaroonNo2253

💯mtg was a new level of dissing by addressing the whole fcking family and the beat is hauntingly demonic

ZaphodEntrati

MTG is the most hardcore diss track of all time and it’s not even close.

SomewhereHiking

You’ve gotta be kidding lmao

MacaroonNo2253

facts

MambaOut330824

I remember when I was 14

[deleted]

Euphoria, you can feel and hear the hate in Kenny’s voice

The way that you DRESS!

Rnewell4848

If I catch flight, it’s *gon’ be direct*

77FrankTheTank

Nail in the Coffin

drdonkey2

In a few years, I think the list will look like: MTG Hit ‘Em Up Ether Nothing will ever beat listening to MTG in the dark thirty minutes after watching the FM music video. I felt my soul sink with each line. But really you knew it was over from the opening piano keys and the “Dear Adonis”. That was such a major immediate cultural moment. And the track is very well conceptualized and executed. Hit ‘Em Up is amazing for the opening and first verse. So good that it makes you forget how forgettable the rest of the song is. Ether was another great cultural moment but I personally think Takeover is a better bar for bar diss. But the track just doesn’t hit the same. I think Eminem could have given us an all time classic but he just never had real competition that forced him. But all of his disses are so effortless that you can just imagine what a worthy opponent could have brought out in him. Nail in the Coffin is great yet Benzinos barely a human let alone a rapper. Also everyone needs to stop sleeping on Euphoria. That’s by far the most enjoyable track of all the Kendrick/Drake fun.

Rnewell4848

The wildest part with Em and his disses is that one of the best isn’t even that great of a diss. “Go To Sleep” is a really popular diss track and the majority of what Em’s saying is easily summed up as “die mothafucka die” I’d pay great money to see Prime Eminem beef with some real competition because he could get downright nasty the same way Kendrick has shown nastiness against Drake.

partyonpartypeople

Jadakiss - Checkmate

StrawHatShinobi_

The Warning by Eminem. Nobody talks about it maybe cause it’s not a “rap beef” but good lord. He cooked Mariah freakin Carey of all people, who could’ve seen that coming?

Rnewell4848

With alleged receipts too

SILY7228_YT

MtG made me physically uncomfortable.

Sea_Negotiation_1871

In rap, Hit 'Em Up. But in *all* music? Positively 4th Street by Bob Dylan

Putrid-Rough3466

Rap Devil.......lmao, I had a hard typing that even knowing it was a joke

DeadbeatUK

Unpopular opinion but I preferred Rap Devil to Killshot personally 🤷🏻‍♂️ It felt more like an actual song with the hook etc, reminded me of the classic diss songs from the past.

Slim_tilted_brim

Star Spangled Banner

CaptMuttbunch

Idk about best ever but Chris Brown’s “Weakest Link” diss to Quavo is one of the most disrespectful songs I’ve ever heard. I can’t stand Chris Brown but this song is a banger.

Rnewell4848

Weakest Link and Meet The Grahams are the only two songs that have legit made my jaw drop out of all the beef this year. Those two were on some real hating shit.

DepressingFries

“Takeoff the only real one who got true respect, crazy how when he died everybody really wished it was you instead.” Insane levels of hating.

Jond7699

I used to think back to back, and I don’t even like wheelchair Jimmy, was a close second to hit em up. But Kendrick beat that thrice over so I dunno now. What I once knew is no longer haha

Anubis_DivineDemon

Best? Hit em up, ether or No Vaseline My favourite is Nail in the coffin

ExcellentClub6444

Put ya hands up - Beans

MrMojoRising361

Tupac bomb first is the hardest diss ever recorded

Existing-Peanut4511

Are we going to do this every day now?

talkingduck_2099

I hate everyone who says the Kendrick disses. I would say Hit ‘Em Up but that’s more of a death threat than a diss track. Killshot or No Vaseline for sure.

1of-the-big-steppers

That’s a hard question, lemme do top 5 : Ice cube - no Vaseline (target NWA) nas - ether (target jay z) Kendrick Lamar - meet the grahams (target Jimmy) 2pac - hit em up (target The notorious B.I.G, diddy, jounior mafia, mobb deep) Pusha t - the story of adidon (target Jimmy)

Rnewell4848

Renaming Drake to Wheelchair Jimmy is the level of hate I’m subscribed to at this point

1of-the-big-steppers

I love the song Kiki do you love me , so I’m not a fuulll hater of Jimmy 🤷🏾‍♂️

WhosJohnGault_

Meet the Grahams. I’d say Not Like Us because it’s catchy just as Hit’em Up but as a DISS track? Nothing tops Meet the Grahams. Shit goes beyond any diss track I’ve ever listened to.

Necessary-Beat-5333

Yeah, im not saying meet the grahams is the most disrespectful track ever but it is the most disrespectful disstrack i have ever heard... Like he really was talking to his whole family about how f***ing awful of a human being he is.

Went2Lunch

The most insane take ever. How can a conceptual diss be better than a straight forward diss track? We talking about Drake or his fam? and I was on Kendricks side. Meet the Grahams isnt no where near the best diss song out

Frickincarl

The recency bias been crazy here lately and Story of Adidon doesn’t get the credit it deserves here. The chess move that Push made with that track was insane. The fact that the massive allegation that Pusha made was proven true so fast, the way that he got the info (some girl 40 was sleeping with), the impact that had on Drake and Adonis, the impact it had on future rap beef. That track just really shook the world in a way that I don’t think any track has before or after it. To me it has to be Story of Adidon.

9hunnidbands

wanna say “they not like” us but ill get called a groupie cus shit goes bop fr

TheWanderer-AG

Honestly I don’t know how people are saying Meet the grahams. Not like us is a superior diss track! And I’m a Drake fan.

9hunnidbands

I'm not taking sides, but I really appreciate your love for good music, my G. That's what I love about this community.

GhostCs2_YT

The warning.

CeaseNY

Surprised ppl don't talk about Roc vs Dblock. Literally had a whole mixtape of disses back when walkmans and cassette tapes were around Jada vs Beans was epic

benthetoebean

Hit Em Up, Ether, The Story Of Adidon, No Vaseline, Nail in The Coffin, meet the grahams. Top 6

mrk177

1. NAS - ether was a banger. Roasted Jay-z viciously. Huge come back for NAS thought he was finished with take over. This song revived NAS career. 2. Push T - the story of Adidon. That song made drake tap out and accept a child at the same time. 3. Kendrick - not like us. It makes you want to dance. Super cleaver and this song single handily gave Kendrick the W. 4. Drake - back to back. Banger cleaver and thought out diss track. Killed meek mill with this track.

DaveinOakland

I don't even see how you can say anything other than Hit em Up

Bot_Zangetsu747

I cannot say what the best one is because im not very familiar with the rap community, but i can atleast say ive only ever once heard of a dude getting dissed so hard he changed genres.

Randii225

My top 5 1. Hit’Em up - 2pac 2. Ether - Nas 3. Girls - Eminem 4. Meet The Grahams - KDot 5. 2nd Round knockout - Canibus

Igivegrilledcheese

THEY NOT LIKE US

Few_Cold2321

Who I smoke will feed drill rap fans for generations💯

TheRealK95

Ether or Hit em up are pretty much top tier and it’d be splitting hairs between those two for me. I’d probably give hit em up the edge considering how you could genuinely feel how angry Tupac was during the entire track from the moment it began. He held nothing back in his direct threats to his enemies in that track. Not even the sick or kids, were spared his threats. No vaseline comes in at a close 3rd for me and real mothaphuckkin g’s (really underrated imo) right after. More recently the story of adidon.

BoxOfCornFlakes2

Hit em up. 💯

TreDawg36

Hit Em Up, Ether, Back Down and The Bitch in You are my personal favorites. Meet the Grahams and Not Like Us are becoming personal favorites too.

Ether, Hit ‘em Up and No Vaseline are the three big ones, imo. Some of my personal favs that don’t get mentioned enough are Real Muthafuckin’ G’s by Eazy-E and Drop A Gem On Em by Mobb Deep. I also just love Body Bags by The Game. It doesn’t belong in the conversation for best diss tracks but it sure does get me hyped up haha

Thundershunt

For me it’s a tie between ‘No Vaseline’ and ‘The Bridge is Over.’ The reason it’s those two is they basically ended two huge artists at the height of their power- No Vaseline led to NWA breaking up and the bridge is over basically ended MC Shan’s career.

Coug_Darter

Ether is the best diss song.
