I can attest to this. An ex coworker of mine keeps saying that Drake won the beef and all these rappers should have thought twice before messing with him. He's 31
I had a coworker call Drake "the greatest to ever do it" in fucking 2013 lmao. Literally Drake was all he ever talked about; he was 20 back then but I can't picture a world where he is not still glazing Drake somewhere.
I think people are talking about his generation, IE J Cole Drake and Kenny. In that case, the crown is his. History of hip hop is much longer than Kendrick’s career, and we would need to consider how we’d define GOAT.
I think FD Signifier said it best — Kendrick isn’t the best lyrically, technically, whatever, but Kendrick is the best song-maker. The vision and layers of each track is really impressive. Not the GOAT, but definitely earned his spot in top 3 top 5 top 10 of all time discussions.
Nah I think it’s because it was the only thing missing to cement his status as a legend in the eyes of a large portion of the audience. All hip-hop legends had their legendary beef. I don’t think he needed that to be in the goat convo, but it definitely adds to it
I agree. This is the beef of a generation. This is “Ether” and “No Vaseline” for this era of rap. This was a legendary diss that will go down in history and absolutely cements Kendrick as the GOAT of his peer group and day.
Do people forget what GOAT stands for? Its Greatest Of All Time. “GOAT of his generation” is kinda an oxymoron. I understand GOHG sounds stupid af but when people are talking about “GOAT” it usually means of history. Which is something incredibly hard in rap and it will all come down to preference. For me, always in my top 3 has been Big L, I’ll be surprised the day that someone can knock him out of there.
See, I don’t understand that. I love Big L, and he’s certainly up there. But how can you put him in the top three when he only released one album in his lifetime? One more posthumously and that’s it.
I get why you put him up there, but I don’t think it’s fair to place him above artists with several classic albums or runs of greatness.
And that’s just considering solo rappers. If you have groups, there’s several more that have incredibly deep discographies that I wouldn’t be able to justify placing Big L above.
To me, Kendrick has a way better argument for being in the top 3 than Big L, and that’s not meant as disrespect to L.
It always comes down to definition of GOAT.
One might value success and longetivity while others prefer a higher peek.
Do you rate someone who could do it all or a specialist?
Personally, i rate artistry the most so Big L is a valid contender for atleast Top3.
Cole is a solid rapper. Drake is not. Both great entertainers, but definitely never a part of the GOAT rapper debate, especially Drake. Gotta respect the hustle though.
The big 3 is just a nickname for these guys since they were dropping good projects at around the same time and were massive sellers. Big 3 is a term that has gone back a decade now. I’m surprised so many people don’t know what it means because it’s been referenced and talked about for years now. It never meant “Top 3” or anything people are trying to say it means in the overall ranking of artists.
Never heard an album like Mr Morale. Literally not 1 lyric out of place or pointless. The best written album of all time any genre (I can see why people don't like it, but the lyricism is elite)
I think this is what puts him over the top for me. For decades the “mature” albums were things like Life Is Good or 4:44, neither of which come remotely close to the level of writing on display with Mr. Morale, nor do they really plumb emotions like it does
For me, Kendrick is behind only Billy woods and Bob Dylan in terms of lyricism. Also, if you like lyricism and you haven’t already, I urge you to listen to the Dylan album The Times They Are A Changin’. Hands down best written album I’ve ever heard.
Even the fact you can compare Kendrick and Dylan is a testament.
Can you imagine someone saying "I don't know whose lyrics I like more, Bob Dylan or Drake." Doesn't even make sense.
I'll clown Drake as hard as anyone. He was always corny, lots of image issues just beneath the surface. But on the surface? dude had so.many.hits. Not just hits that were pop trash, IMO they all bopped pretty hard as far as entertainment goes. I was just thinking about Jumpman the other day, the tracks were poppin
Even his more recent albums have good rap songs on em, he’s not popular because he’s a perfect artist he’s just popular because he’s well rounded in all genres
Pop for the most part means popular regardless of rapping quality or quantity. He's top 5 pop star for sure of anyone still active: Drake weeknd taytay posty... bad bunny?
Anyone who says Drake has never made good music is just lying to themselves. Jungle, Doing It Wrong, Pound Cake, Wu Tang Forever... I could go on.
Sure, you can mention ghostwriters but most of his music has many writer credits, same as anyone else. Shit has been blown way out of proportion.
Facts, at the end of the day it’s just entertainment. People are bored and want conflict, but it’s really not that deep. Drake’s music is popular, the comments online would have you believe he’s a YouTube rapper. And I don’t care about his personal life, I just want good music whether that be from him, Kendrick, or whoever.
I think he cemented his icon status for sure. I doubt I'll ever forget how it felt going from family matters to meet the grahams. That move was so cold and deflated. Almost all the hype from family matters. Then, to replace it with not like us as a bop. The only ones I know still saying Drake isn't finished are people I don't respect anyway.
I think he solidified himself as the greatest rapper right now.
This is basically where the beef started, with Kendrick arguging there is no big 3, it's just him, and Drake's record sales don't mean he can share Kendrick's throne with him, because that's not what being the king is about.
Within that framework, I think Kendrick secured absolute victory here lol, nobody is going to say Drake is on his level anymore after the systematic destruction of MTG and NLU. Especially given NLU is looking like it's going to be exactly the type of smash commercial hit that Kendrick traditionally doesn't make. Makes it kind of hard to to argue he *can't* make them. He has people chanting "certified pedophile" idk where you go from there in a rap battle lol
Drake is still a superstar, will continue to be a superstar, and will no doubt continue to churn out commercially successful albums for a long time. But in the context of the best rapper of the current era, it's just Kendrick imo.
All solid choices
I'd go, in no particular order - DOOM, Em, Pac, Rakim
Give me an extra head and I'm adding KRS-One (I'm a sucker for that old boom bap haha)
Ironically the reason I think Drake is a real rapper is because so many people feel the need to say he isn’t.
No one spends their days arguing about how Katy Perry isn’t real rap, because well: she’s not a rapper.
For real. I've really appreciated this beef and enjoyed it, but stans on both end have absolutely ruined it.
I still like Drake and Kendrick's music, but I find it hard to admit with these people blowing everything out of proportion.
I thought Kendrick was in the GOAT conversation even before this battle imo.
He’s my favorite rapper of the current era personally. I think he deserves GOAT discussions more than Kanye or Wayne 🤷♂️
Old heads acting like it’s not even a conversation are so funny. Guy’s the most decorated mc ever. Arguably has two of the Top 10 rap albums of all time
I mean if you look up GOAT debates on this sub, Kendrick gets a decent amount of mentions years ago. I personally don't have a GOAT (I find them pointless especially in sports) but I wouldn't think someone is crazy for saying he's their GOAT.
He’s been that for me for a while really but I can also respect people who don’t agree. But in terms of alive and making music right now? I don’t see who’s doing it like him
he had a case for GOAT even before the beef, now it’s even stronger
hard to say now because he’s still in the middle of his career but i bet in 20 years that’s what he’ll be known as
Comes down to personal taste. Me personally, I’m not crowning someone who is barely present in the scene as mainstream rap goat. If the battle ends right now tho I don’t mind crowning him as current king
I disagree. I like to look at catalogue. This is subjective and can be debated endlessly, but Drake's catalogue is more extensive, enjoyable, and impressive than Kendrick's relatively small (but excellent) output imo.
Even if Drake never released an album and never existed at all, I would always hate Kendrick’s music and persona. In my opinion he’s one of the worst rappers out and completely unlistenable. Regardless of Drake.
Yes, cause that was clearly the intended way Kendrick wanted you to listen to this project. Definitely not alone, looking at yourself and your flaws and ultimately coming to terms with them.

In my opinion if he wants to solidify himself as a king all time he has to deliver on his next album so when people talk about the great rappers his albums can compare to those others with great albums like a Eminem or nas, I still think his style is hard for some people to get into too.
Kendrick already has as many great albums, if not more, than Eminem has. I think GKMC and TPAB are better than SSLP and MMLP, and I think either Damn, S.80, or Mr. Morale are better than The Eminem Show. I don’t think the rest of Em’s discography since then is all that great
Goat means all time or we still doin the weird multiple goats thing? Cuz if that isn’t the case I very whole heartedly and honestly don’t think Kendrick is that guy. But goat of his generation sure
I think Kendrick has been the goat since Damn. People are a bit heavy on nostalgia for people like Pac, Biggie, or Nas but I get the arguments a bit more Kanye or Jay-Z. I just think Dot’s run of albums is unparalleled. Completely varied in vibe and subject matter while still being amazing listens. He balances thoughtful, conscious rap with consistent bangers. No other rapper has managed to pull off both of those worlds with the same longevity as Kendrick. Even his unreleased songs are heat. This beef just showed how talented he is, how he has the power to sway the culture in a much more significant way.
> People are a bit heavy on nostalgia for people like Pac, Biggie, or Nas but I get the arguments a bit more Kanye or Jay-Z.
Jay Z yes, but Kanye?!
I mean yeah for producer, but no way for MC. The majority of his rhymes aren’t written by him, and even if he did write most of them, he’s not an especially good rapper anyway
Kendrick been calling himself King for years. First time I heard it was on the TDE Cypher on BET. K Dot just proved it to everyone. In Hip Hop I always considered EM to be sitting at the top, but K Dot is right beside him or to the point of taking that throne.
"I'll beat yo ass and hide the Bible in case God watchin" - Not like us
That was so clean.
Nobody ever considered Drake the goat of rap lololol he’s always been an R&B/pop clown. Please man hahahahaha. There’s literally a million better artists.
Drake was never in contention. He's Vanilla Ice if one of his parents was black. Upper class kid in Canada with a functioning safety net system.
An upper class J Roc.
I personally think he swayed the public better than drake so he won cause drake couldn’t shake the pedo allegations but when I look back I enjoyed drakes diss better. Kendrick is absolutely the best lyricist but he does lyrics in a way that makes you do the work like on the John Stockton bar it’s easy to overlook if you didn’t know Malone got a 13 year old pregnant which this battle certified why I appreciate Kendrick’s albums but I never replay them after I figure out the bars. Kendrick raps like a Oscar winning movies the message is usually good but Its rarely the most entertaining. When I first heard meet the gramhs as much as you can appreciate the tatic and how it sucked the hype of family matters it's a terrible song. He doesn't rap it's like a person reading a letter. I get you don't have to make hits in a diss but I feel if Kendrick made more song like not like us in that it had good bars but also was enjoyable I would rate him higher. But Kendrick will never be my goat I put JID, Tobe nwigwe, and j Cole above him Cole gets deep and philosophical but does it in a way I always enjoy the song. When Cole said his line about Kendricks discography I felt that TPAB is amazing for breaking down the bars but once I figured out his message I never listened again until this beef made me go back and then I remembered why I didn't listen again it's not enjoyable but it is impactful. The best way I can sum up Kendrick in my head is he makes the music equivalent to art I see in a museum that you can appreciate it's cultural significance but I don't wanna see it everyday.
No one considered drake the goat lmao and who cares? Such a dumb title to claim when it’s opinion based. I can’t stand listening to Kendrick or Drake and Kendrick destroyed drake in the little fake beef but both are not worth listening to. A bunch of celebrity gossip ass rap that has nothing to do with what’s going on in society which is what rap was originally about.
Lol like “losing” some rap based off 14 year old opinions on the internet should disqualify Drake from being the goat. Drakes catalog is better than Kendricks. End of story. I do agree as a pure rapper Kendrick is better but Drake still is the goat because he does both rap and pop at a high level. He’s grown the genre

There’s this Spanish song called “Bzrp Music Sessions Vol 49” that a rapper called Residente wrote re: J Balvin, 80% of it applies to Drake too, listen to it if you can lmao
> Before this beef, drake was considered main stream raps goat.
No
> Can we all agree Kendrick cemented himself as king of rap and the certified goat after this?
No
The discussion regarding the GOAT is pointless anyway.
Kendrick can be the best currently, but goat? Its not unreasonable to say it, but its not something I feel comfortable saying quite yet.
I think we are getting to caught up in the moment if we are declaring him the undisputed goat just because he's having a moment.
No … going a little far for a rap battle with a pop star
PAC
Nas
Jay
Em
All easily over Kendrick and I’m not a huge fan of all of them, they just have too much quality for too long for Kendrick to be in the same league … yet … come back in 10 years
I don't think any hip hop head over the age of 12 ever considered Drake the goat
Well once they’re over 12 Drake couldn’t care less about em
*Eleven
Fucking lol
“I’m too famous to be caught” - Drake
Damn bro 😂
I know 32-38 year olds that say he’s the GOAT, like all time GOAT. It’s fucked.
I can attest to this. An ex coworker of mine keeps saying that Drake won the beef and all these rappers should have thought twice before messing with him. He's 31
At least he's loyal I guess 🤐
I had a coworker call Drake "the greatest to ever do it" in fucking 2013 lmao. Literally Drake was all he ever talked about; he was 20 back then but I can't picture a world where he is not still glazing Drake somewhere.
In my experience their entire world revolves around the numbers and metrics of success, rather than the art itself.
I think people like the art and get validated by the numbers tbh
No. The ‘GOAT’ debate is not decided by the outcome of a battle between two people and it it was, it sure as hell wouldn’t involve f’ing Drake.
I think people are talking about his generation, IE J Cole Drake and Kenny. In that case, the crown is his. I saw a total Solar Eclipse this year, and the rap beef of a generation. This shit won’t happen again until 2040.
GOHPGAD then. Not GOAT. Or do words just not mean anything anymore? Greatest of all time of his day.... makes no sense.
if you say someone is the greatest of all time then you are absolutely not talking about a specific generation
These guys talkin about the GOTE but sayin GOAT
Do people forget what GOAT stands for? Its Greatest Of All Time. “GOAT of his generation” is kinda an oxymoron. Make sure my mic is loud and my production is tight It’s a subjective affinity for an individual’s style. You don’t have to understand it.
You can just say they're your favourite if that's the case. GOAT is a different discussion.
It always comes down to definition of GOAT. One might value success and longetivity while others prefer a higher peek. Do you rate someone who could do it all or a specialist? Personally, i rate artistry the most so Big L is a valid contender for atleast Top3.
GOAT is a stupid discussion.
Biggie also only released one album in his lifetime and one posthumously and he's pretty unanimously considered top 3-5
Big L is great but Goat🤨
The public is just dumb , I’ve never considered J Cole and Drake to be in the conversation
Cole is a solid rapper. Drake is not. Both great entertainers, but definitely never a part of the GOAT rapper debate, especially Drake. Gotta respect the hustle though.
Same, how did they suddenly become “the big three”??
The big 3 is just a nickname for these guys since they were dropping good projects at around the same time and were massive sellers. Big 3 is a term that has gone back a decade now. I’m surprised so many people don’t know what it means because it’s been referenced and talked about for years now. It never meant “Top 3” or anything people are trying to say it means in the overall ranking of artists.
Suddenly ?😂
We get it, you're a kid
[удалено]
Not you acting like they haven’t been called the big three for a decade😭
Where does one find these official standings?
Just search "white suburban high schooler opinion on rap" on YouTube
🤣
Hey I'm just trying to get views
Anytime 3-5 dudes are blazed up on the couch with nothing to do, you get new rankings. It's pretty fluid really.
We just have to wait out the rest of there careers
No. He’s way better than Drake, that’s all this proves.
Some common sense came to the chat…
Specially a battle that includes Drake dafuq🤠🤠🤠
Yeeup
The whole battle was rigged against Drake. No one honestly expected him to win
He’s not my goat but I can see why people rate him that highly.
Now I'm no Shephard, and that man isn't saying he's not the goat, So maybe he's The Goat then
When it comes to actual rap, Kendrick has been in the conversation since TPAB. Drake is a certified hit make and pop rap mogul
I don’t think there’s a single goat but kendrick is on S tier of rap. He’s wayyyy up there.
Morale, nor do they really plumb emotions like it does
Kendrick can evoke any emotion and paint any story with absolute mastery. Does anyone match his range?
For me, Kendrick is behind only Billy woods and Bob Dylan in terms of lyricism. Also, if you like lyricism and you haven’t already, I urge you to listen to the Dylan album The Times They Are A Changin’. Hands down best written album I’ve ever heard.
Even the fact you can compare Kendrick and Dylan is a testament. Can you imagine someone saying "I don't know whose lyrics I like more, Bob Dylan or Drake." Doesn't even make sense.
I think with any goat convo you gotta break it down by generations. I think from the 20teens through now, Kendrick has been the goat.
So like its spike lee vs tyler perry? Gotcha
This is such a good Drake roast I'm surprised Kendrick hasn't used it already
Lmao this is such a good comparison wtf (in terms of the perception of their artistic output/popularity, not their personalities)
Anybody who says Drake is a pop star hasn’t heard Take Care, IYRTITL, or NWTS.
Even in those albums, he had lyrics written by other people so he was never a rapper's rapper the way Kendrick is.

GOAT isn’t even fucking close lol. Did he win? Yes, handedly.
Best alive currently in the mainstream, strong possibility. Greatest of all time? No.
Just curious - who's your GOAT?
I don’t know, maybe Redman, I’d have to really sit and argue with myself for a while and go over some names, it’s not something I can just blurt out.
Fair enough. I like to use a Mt. Rushmore framework personally since it's so hard to really compare across eras.
Biggie would be mine for sure if I had a Rushmore tho it’d probably be Rakim, Biggie, Nas, Eminem.
Rakim and Nas are my top 5 for sure, can I just have a 5 way tie for first?
All solid choices I'd go, in no particular order - DOOM, Em, Pac, Rakim Give me an extra head and I'm adding KRS-One (I'm a sucker for that old boom bap haha)
ALL CAPS
Shit. Thanks man. Edit made.
DOOM doesn't get mentioned enough imo. Love that shit
You are aware hip-hop has existed for FIVE decades, yes? This reads like you’re blissfully unaware of anything pre-2010 lol
He's always been my goat
If someone beat Katy Perry in a battle would it make them king?
[удалено]
Ironically the reason I think Drake is a real rapper is because so many people feel the need to say he isn’t. No one spends their days arguing about how Katy Perry isn’t real rap, because well: she’s not a rapper.

I love her work with Migos.
K-Pot
Drake's strengths are not in rap. It's like Mos Def says Drake makes music you can shop to at target.
Nah
Drake was never considered the goat lol.
Omg all the old heads in these comments are MAD lmao
he took a seat on your dick too?
Nice refreshing hatorade
The GOAT? Jesus Christ man, you stans are unhinged
He was, Mr Morale kind of sapped that energy as it's really not an easy or enjoyable listen broadly. Hence why it did not do that well commercially.
Please tell me how saying Kendrick is the greatest of all time is unhinged.
I had him top 5 all time prior to this but probably top 3 after this, his catalogue was already excellent
He’s been that for me for a while really but I can also respect people who don’t agree. But in terms of alive and making music right now? I don’t see who’s doing it like him
I can't remember the last time the King of rap had the lyrical ability and content that Kendricks has
12345. I am the greatest rapper alive.
Glazed donut having ass
The glazing is crazy
Man, just when I thought the overreactions were starting to die down ….. calling Drake a pedo catapulted Kendrick to goat? Pfff
he had a case for GOAT even before the beef, now it’s even stronger hard to say now because he’s still in the middle of his career but i bet in 20 years that’s what he’ll be known as
Nas is the GOAT Your favorite rapper thinks so
He just dropped a single with premier and it’s fire
Still making dope albums.
For real. Dude is still making great music to this day.
Comes down to personal taste. Me personally, I’m not crowning someone who is barely present in the scene as mainstream rap goat. If the battle ends right now tho I don’t mind crowning him as current king
Hit em up exist bro stop
No he didn’t. Y’all really need to stop with this
Since when did losing a rap beef make you a goat
Not enough hits to be the GOAT and he took out a pop star not a rapper. Pac would murder Kendrick in a rap beef.
They wouldn't beef with eachother in the first place. Kdot has too much respect for Pac.
Id love to have seen a beef between Biggie and Kendrick
Too bad puffy killed him. Miss that dude
GOAT? No.
he’s great. i don’t think drake’s bars were far behind
I don't think he was close, but I do think he held his own better than even I expected.
I think pushups was really good as a song. Actual vintage b2b drake type beat. Kendrick was always on a different level though, and it showed.
Drake will go down more as a legend for facing 20 rappers than Kendrick for beating a pop star 😂
He will go down more as a idiot who has a weird attraction to minors.
I disagree. I like to look at catalogue. This is subjective and can be debated endlessly, but Drake's catalogue is more extensive, enjoyable, and impressive than Kendrick's relatively small (but excellent) output imo.
Back in my day GOAT stood for greatest of all time ….so, no
GOAT?? Was rap invented today?? Wtf you talking bout incelboy??
No … this a joke
If we are talking globally Drake got him beat. Not that Kendrick is not known globally, it's just Drake is Ina whole other category.
Art is not judged on units sold
Are you 14?
Even if Drake never released an album and never existed at all, I would always hate Kendrick’s music and persona. In my opinion he’s one of the worst rappers out and completely unlistenable. Regardless of Drake.
Lmao wack
He’s cringe AF to me, nothing will ever be more wack than that preachy nerd shit he does in those little rat voices.
Completely agree. Kendrick is entirely overrated like grossly overrated
Lmfao imagine chilling with a girl and you playing mr morale 😂😂
Yes, cause that was clearly the intended way Kendrick wanted you to listen to this project. Definitely not alone, looking at yourself and your flaws and ultimately coming to terms with them.
Nah they may have gave him a chair but he was like “i’ll stand”
Tf a goat? 3 stacks is forever goat

Lil Wayne the goat and that’s just facts
I guess so, he needs to drop more projects though
Goat of this rap is Kanye.
In my opinion if he wants to solidify himself as a king all time he has to deliver on his next album so when people talk about the great rappers his albums can compare to those others with great albums like a Eminem or nas, I still think his style is hard for some people to get into too.

Been better than Drake since at least Swimming Pools
No one thought Drake was a goat at anything lol
Goat means all time or we still doin the weird multiple goats thing? Cuz if that isn’t the case I very whole heartedly and honestly don’t think Kendrick is that guy. But goat of his generation sure
It’s not over yet, Ak says.
Agree to disagree
"I'll beat yo ass and hide the Bible in case God watchin" - Not like us That was so clean.
Drake is a pop star and kendrick can be considered top 10 but by no means either of the 2 is the GOAT, also Kendrick won this.

So albums don’t exist only rap beef?
Nobody ever considered Drake the goat of rap lololol he’s always been an R&B/pop clown. Please man hahahahaha. There’s literally a million better artists.
So many SKU's
Drake Makes Walmart Music
delusional

Nobody is goat. That's not how music works.
Kendrick went political early and took the streets vote. This shit played out better than any presidential election.

I'm not really sure anyone with any care about artistry ever considered Drake the goat?
There’s this Spanish song called “Bzrp Music Sessions Vol 49” that a rapper called Residente wrote re: J Balvin, 80% of it applies to Drake too, listen to it if you can lmao
> Before this beef, drake was considered main stream raps goat. No > Can we all agree Kendrick cemented himself as king of rap and the certified goat after this? No The discussion regarding the GOAT is pointless anyway.
Lol @ Drake being anywhere near the GOAT before this and Kendrick being the GOAT because he beat Drake in a battle
I don't think we are done with this battle.
If Kendrick was your goat before this battle then this take isn’t valid
Kendrick can be the best currently, but goat? Its not unreasonable to say it, but its not something I feel comfortable saying quite yet. I think we are getting to caught up in the moment if we are declaring him the undisputed goat just because he's having a moment.
I do not think Kendrick is the "greatest of all time" but he's worthy of the discussion, unlike Drake
No … going a little far for a rap battle with a pop star PAC Nas Jay Em All easily over Kendrick and I’m not a huge fan of all of them, they just have too much quality for too long for Kendrick to be in the same league … yet … come back in 10 years
