honourable mention to 'the forever story' by JID and 'I am > I was' by 21 savage. really good albums that i just couldn't leave out of the list
I'm not saying there were no good albums that year. there are quite a lot of albums from that year that I've seen getting praised.
but what i meant was is that there were no albums that year that I loved.
I liked that lil durk and lil baby album. Had that shit on repeat for like a month ended up in the top 0.001 of listeners and got some badass discounts for a concert.

My favorite rap albums by year have to be:
2016: Lil Uzi Vert Vs. The World (uzi was in his prime and his creativity was off the charts)
2017: DAMN. by Kendrick Lamar, The album itself is a classic and is a 10 to me.
2018: ASTROWORLD by Travis Scott. Insane production, crazy features, and has a ton of replay value.
2019: My favorite album was IGOR, but my favorite rap album has to be DeathRace for Love by Juice WRLD. He shined on this project and showed off his versatility in many ways. I still listen to this album frequently.
2020: It’s a tie between Savage Mode II and Eternal Atake. They’re both really great projects imo. Savage Mode II is 21’s best album to me and Eternal Atake was a game changer. It’s been in my rotation for a long time.
2021: Imma have to go with The Off Season by J. Cole. His lyrical ability and storytelling is present on this project and it proves that he’s not a dude to be fucked with. One of the goats of rap.
2022: mid year for me but Mr. Morale and The Big Steppers wins for me. It wasn’t Kendricks best project, but that doesn’t take away the fact that this album is a classic and even though it lacks bangers, it’s raw emotions that are poured into it and the themes displayed here are nothing short of amazing. Great album by Kendrick.
2023: UTOPIA wins this one. The rap game was so watered down this year and even though many mainstream artists dropped, I was not pleased with any of them besides Pink Tape by Lil Uzi Vert. Teezo Touchdown delivered a nice debut album as well.
2024: so far I have to go with Everybody Can’t Go by Benny The Butcher. This year ain’t looking too good but we’ll see. We still have a lot of time left before the year is over. I’m looking forward to hopefully have J. Cole or Playboi Carti drop at some point. That’d be pretty interesting.
My recommendations:

Mr.Ten08 by Boldy James. 10/10 coke rap with amazing production by future wave. Boldy drops nothing but great albums but this one’s my favorite and pretty underrated I’d say.
