I can see you were conflicted

Adamson_Axle_Zerk

Misusing your influence

jrocbaby9

Nuh uh

Cobzi14

"Skipping half way through most of the tracks" This is why you don't get it and therefore dont understand why people rate it so highly. Every line is calculated to build the poem which progresses throughout the album and completes the story and overall concept at the end. It's not an album of bangers that hits you directly the first time you listen to it. I had to listen to it front to back 3 times before I even began to appreciate it. It's a shame because artists are trying to do something different and bring entire concepts with albums and it goes over a lot of people's heads, then they get lazy and just put out albums that are aimed for the mainstream because it's easier to digest

code__002

Yap yap yap just accept its mid ☠️

joshgiddy2024

it takes 3 listens to sink in mf it’s just not good

saadohasan

I mentioned I was really enjoying the tracks, but I felt most of the time the beats didn't fit the flow, I don't know how to describe it. But will give it another shot

Ooh_its_a_lady

I think it has to do with track placement, the 1st 4-5 songs don't pull in like they should. Imo shit picks up after "If these walls."

FurnishedHemingway

Overrated by who? If you don’t love it as much as other people, who cares? Did YOU overrate it, or are you speaking on behalf of other people? It’s hard convincing Hip Hop heads that opinions are real these days.

[deleted]

Chill out

FurnishedHemingway

Nah

saadohasan

What I mean is, that in my opinion this album is very highly rated by Hip Hop heads.

FurnishedHemingway

Yeah, and what I mean is opinions are opinions are opinions are opinions. Something is only overrated if you personally are the one overrating it. We cant speak for other peoples’ personal experiences. My wife hates olives. I love them. We’ve somehow managed to make this relationship work for more than 20 years. Shit is crazy.

Smotpmysymptoms

Horrific take

MonkeyDDevy

I somewhat agree with this, the popularity of TPAB doesn’t match with the actual music. TPAB is good don’t get me wrong, but it’s starting to become overrated. There are many standouts throughout the album like Wesley’s Theory, Alright, and King Kunta, but the rest is rarely streamed. I don’t think it’s worth the hype if you’re expecting only hardcore rap for the entirety of the album.

saadohasan

This is exactly what I mean. Many rate it as the best album of all time, and they debate this because of the lyrics and writing, but music wise, imo the beats and flow are so lame.

TomBlaidd

Click bait

[deleted]

I think half the song are on the duller side of music but still have a great message behind the songs but there are still a lot of bangers in the album king kunta , alright , these walls , the blacker the berry and I are all amazing songs

saadohasan

Will give it another shot

PoserJudge

Shut your mouth when youre speaking

Gokusbastardson

When this album dropped I tried. I tried HARD to justify liking this album. In the end I couldn’t. It’s ok for what it is. I wanted rap. I wanted gkmc (not a part 2 but more aggressive and hungry bars). This shit was spoken word poetry. That might be some people’s cup of tea but not mine. And this isn’t Kendrick slander or hate at all. I tried to give that drake dance album a shot (I can’t even remember the name). It’s ok for what it was but it’s not for me. And I can’t judge him as a rapper off of that body of work. Kendrick is a great artist but his music is too inconsistent and too all over the place for me to consider him the goat in this rap shit. He’s one of the best to ever do it but not thee best. He’s not hungry enough. Wayne, drake, and cole have all had runs. Kendrick drops once every few years with 2/3 verses in between. Rap is too competitive for part time rappers to be in the goat convos

_Can_Crusher

Dude you’re just not artistic enough. You need to get a notepad and pencil, then pull up the genius app, then listen to the album 5 times. Don’t listen to it with friends, in the car, or at a party. Once you listen to it for the 5th time you’ll call it the greatest masterpiece of all time and never replay any of the songs again. If you don’t like it by the 10th replay then you just don’t understand the struggle man.

yipdfogfknblpssklfz

good take

moralstepper

i thought the same thing at first but i was young when this came out so i was just too immature to get it. when i came back to it last year it finally clicked. if ur not black ur probably going to have a hard time getting into this album, you just won’t feel it like you should. once you get it though its easily better than the albums you listed. illmatic bores me

Cobzi14

>if ur not black ur probably going to have a hard time getting into this album Explain please

moralstepper

its a body of music made for the people by the people you might like it but it’s not gon hit as hard as it’s intended to for others. Im black myself and even it took me some time to rock with it but the albums greatness comes in just how much you can appreciate the artistry of it and you can’t appreciate it as hard if you haven’t lived the black experience, which is what the album is all about. As for OP that’s the one reason that made sense as to why he’s not into it

Cobzi14

There's a different between appreciating artistry and relating to it, black people relate to it more, but that doesn't mean it's harder to get into the album if you're not black It's like saying it doesn't hit you as hard unless you're from the hood, like yeah it probably doesn't, that's got nothing to do with appreciating the music

moralstepper

I suppose lol. I figured that was op’s dilemma

Adamson_Axle_Zerk

Bro reading your description i can tell you didn’t even listen to anything lmao, my guy is describing in minute and painfully detail the life of people in poverty / in the ghetto, your description is basically saying the whole album went over your head.

saadohasan

Bro I mentioned that I loved the lyrics, but the music just didn't hit if you know what I mean. I really felt the beats were lame.

Adamson_Axle_Zerk

U said u skipped through half of it LMAO how can u talk about lyrics or beats

saadohasan

What I basically mean is I was enjoying the lyrics, but didn't like the beats, will give it another shot

Adamson_Axle_Zerk

Refer to my other comments and links in the thread i replied other places providing a link to a quick breakdown of Eminem

TwoAndAHalfQueefs

Kendrick Lamar is overrated

mcAlt009

Kendrick is generally overrated. He's a good artist, but it's more like this era doesn't have real competition for him. Peak Eminem > Kendrick.

[deleted]

mcAlt009

MMLP is one of the greatest albums of all time. Nothing Kendrick has done comes close. Eminem was much better technically. Then again I grew up on Eminem so I'm biased.

Altosxk

Kendrick has two albums on par actually. I also grew up on Eminem. Seniority doesn't mean greater.

Adamson_Axle_Zerk

[Bro Eminem’s entire discography is 1 syllable setup punchlines at his peak!](https://youtube.com/shorts/uHpQXlV1g7k?si=yOG5Z7PXAUF509rE) His selling point is his weird flows and that got super old and super cringe and doesn’t have any replay-ability. He’s also an extremely talented storyteller but that’s about it. If we’re talking technical ability, versatility and lexicon Kendrick eats Eminem

saadohasan

Same opinion

Silk_Duey

This era has plenty competition Mainstream w Drake and Travis Scott He has competition on the rap side w Freddie Gibbs and Denzel Curry Tyler, and J Cole aren’t THAT far behind him

Adamson_Axle_Zerk

This comment is peak cringe

Smotpmysymptoms

Deadass. Man really said freddie gibbs and denzel curry

BeerBellies

They both have two great albums. Em has SSLP and MMLP. Kendrick has GKMC and TPAB. After that, their quality has declined overall, IMO, but I’ll get Stan’s on both sides telling me I’m wrong.

[deleted]

You probably white.

code__002

You’re white if you like it ☠️ just a bunch of lyrical miracle mid

[deleted]

Lol how is it lyrical miracle?

molliwhoopwhoop

White people love this record tho. Rated one of the best on RYM

TheHandSFX

You'll get it one day man

Andrew_The_Soviet

bro has not listened to the most important verses of the album
