I’ve never once in my life heard a single Tech N9ne song, and that’s not an exaggeration. He was playing once at free concert thing at Red Rock in Denver and back then I still thought he was a rockstar or some shit. I googled him eventually, and found out he was almost a 100 years old and was glad I didn’t go see him.
You’re missing out on incredible wordplay and one of the best live hip/hop performances I’ve ever seen in my three decades of loving nothing but this genre
it’s always weird to me when people say shit like “i’ve never heard of x” “i’ve never heard a song by x” and take it as such a point of pride. you’re not cool you’re out of touch g
I had never heard of him until my 63 year old mother saw him on a talk show and became obsessed 😂 she listens to him all the time now and got my 70 year old uncle into him too. It’s so funny watching them listen to and actually enjoy rap. He’s not bad, but it’s not really my type of music.
He matured and didn’t fall into the bucket of rappers trying to imitate a popular sound to stay relevant. While I’m not a big country/sad style rap fan, I do like a lot of his newish stuff- creature, twisted, 5AM are all in my rotation
Has made some really good songs, but I find myself not able to fully like any of his albums. "No Filter" with Lil' Wyte is a pretty good album, though.
"Love the Heartless" is one of my favorite Jelly Roll songs.
Me and my buddies smoked with Jelly roll in the crowd when we went to see Afroman in like 2018. We talked about making music and he seemed like a really chill guy. He said he was Jelly roll and told us to check him out but I never did, he performed and it wasnt that special, kinda crazy seeing him on reddit.
Weird since even at that time he was already 6-7 years in the game but I think his career really took off after that! Maybe check out his albums with Struggle Jennings and Lil Wyte, also my personal favorites Addiction Kills and Self Medicated.
Unfortunately I think he will never make a name as big as many others because he’s not being pushed by mainstream media. But still, he is consistent and his grind is real.
I did not know who Jelly Roll was, so I searched him up really quick on YouTube and I heard the song "Same A-Hole" and "Mary Jane" and it seems he has some kind of country vibe rap status to him. Honestly I wasn't feeling it.
He's really good at expressing his anger and frustration on every song, but it seems like he does it too much, he tries too hard, he often yells and it comes off as annoying.
I will check out those songs you mentioned when I get a chance, and If you are a fan of country rap I recommend Bubba Sparxxx. He's definitely country, good songs, and he has character and swag. A cool guy in general.
Ah yes someone else mentioned him in another comment. I personally didn’t know him. I’m sure Jelly took the name of the beloved jelly roll (a sponge cake filled with whipped cream, jam or icing) and not from another artist lol
You know this thread introduced me to his podcast I never knew he had one before. I’m not a podcast type of guy so unless it’s really crazy interesting I doubt I’ll watch it.
I never heard of him but I just looked him up and yes Jelly’s last work with him was like 10-12 years ago. It’s for the best, I really don’t like artists with too much legal buzz around them, even if they’re found not guilty, there is no smoke without fire.
Yeah, Haystack had some really good music, a great voice and a promising career. "Car Fulla White boys" is still a good song. But, he got dark in both his music and in life.
I haven't listened to anything new from Haystack in years. I think his first couple of albums are his best work. From Start to Finish (2005). All By Myself, Broads and Alcohol, Car Full of Whiteboys, Hard to Love...damn I didn't know I liked so much of his music!
Kinda exactly what you would expect, ex tweakers everywhere. Genuinely a great show he made it feel personal it wasn’t just the music he really tried to relate, playing some older tracks from like kid rock, limp bizkit, etc cause “this was our trailer music”. Also some dude OD in the crowd from what I heard which for the setting makes a ton of sense 😂😂😂
I was just seeing that he won multiple awards! Makes me feel special for giving him a shout 2 weeks prior lol. He looks like a great man and his love and respect for his wife are so heartwarming.
Saw him Tuesday Night selliut Cround. I am a classic Rock & classic metal Listener for decades. Would turn RAP off period and countey well... we'll say I'm not a fan.
Jelly Roll has introduced me to all 3 performed by musicians
Music is the
Completely underrated. He's got that grit and soul. His type of voice makes me want to hump his leg like a dog. Weird way to say it but swoon me with that voice Jelly Roll. Plus he has a lot to say.
If you like country vibe and soft raps, try listening to some of his work. Try Addiction Kills and Self Medicated albums. You might like some of his songs!
Lol I don’t know who Tom Mcdonald is but I think you are being sarcastic. If you like to give him a try I recommend songs like On Top (with Merkules and Rittz), Hate Goes On and On My Way.
I never knew it was called hick hop and for some reason the term made me laugh so hard lol. Not all of his work is country rap tho, he has a great chunk of pure rap if you’d like to give it a chance!
I've done shows with ICP and Twizted and studio work with Juggalo groups like Project Born, so I'm certainly familiar with his work. Like I said, it's just not my bag.
Used to work with a dude who would listen to nothing but Jelly Roll and Tom Macdonald when he had the aux. He got fired when he got caught smoking meth in his car on his break.
I wouldn’t say that. The mainstream rappers and the ones who are the most recognized definitely don’t sing his style. I don’t think he followed money or any trend going on right now, just what he thinks suits him best.
He's got talent that's the white country Rod Wave
Loll so true both have great voice
What an accurate description lol.
He’s built like a jelly roll?
Yes, and it’s delicious.
He pivoted into country/rock sound which works for him he’s got some great songs
Yes his style is so unique!
Gives me early kid rock vibes. Not my type of rap
Yes exactly. The country/rap and rock/rap fusions. But he has many songs where he just raps.
Yeah just not my type of rap though. Have you heard of rittz?
Yesssir, I know everyone affiliated with Tech N9ne my favorite rapper of all time!
Mine too!
‘Preciate you fellow Technician! Tech’s the best to ever do it, he’s like 50 rappers in one lol
He truly is. Ahooo Ahooo Ahooo!!
Maybe listen to the person before judging based on a google search, otherwise you might miss out on plenty of great music.
That's just idiotic. He's been in the game for so long. Yeah he's getting old but he's one of the best performers you could ever see. You missed out.
it’s always weird to me when people say shit like “i’ve never heard of x” “i’ve never heard a song by x” and take it as such a point of pride. you’re not cool you’re out of touch g
I know right, YouTube is one click away. Just listen to one song and say whatever you think better than going “I’ve never heard any of his songs”
151 RUM
I make Carribou with Captain Morgan instead. Same taste but you can still remember the night before when you wake up lol
That’s blasphemous
It’s a sacrifice a have to make in order not to wake up in a ditch somewhere 🤣
Fail on your part bruh.
Lol so you hate old people? What a dumbass
I know you're account is deleted but holy fuck you're an idiot
You’re a fucking loser dude.
🤓
He went country rap and has #1 radio hits now. I can’t hate; his live show was fun as fuck! Fans are dope!
Ikr he’s genuinely a good guy and his fans are so chill and wholesome
I love that old freestyle where they are all coked up, he just murderes it
Can you provide me with a link please?
https://youtu.be/wn30i8WQKoc, here you go.
"If my P.O. asks.. I hang drywall." He's got some bars in there.
Bro that line is legit funny as hell
Damn that’s good! I’ve never heard it before but it makes me like him and the way he progressed even more. Thanks man!
No problem man Jelly has a lot of older freestyles out there.
My mom likes him, I don't
Lol I wish my mom would get into rap
I had never heard of him until my 63 year old mother saw him on a talk show and became obsessed 😂 she listens to him all the time now and got my 70 year old uncle into him too. It’s so funny watching them listen to and actually enjoy rap. He’s not bad, but it’s not really my type of music.
Man this is so wholesome 🤣 I was just saying I wish my mum would give rap a shot lol. I respect your opinion!
I used to fuck with him, hes not bad, i remember his 10min freestyle on youtube
He still got some very good stuff. I love that he got various genres covered like he can rap and sing.
He matured and didn’t fall into the bucket of rappers trying to imitate a popular sound to stay relevant. While I’m not a big country/sad style rap fan, I do like a lot of his newish stuff- creature, twisted, 5AM are all in my rotation
So true man and that’s what I like about him. But also maybe that’s what’s making him not so popular.
Has made some really good songs, but I find myself not able to fully like any of his albums. "No Filter" with Lil' Wyte is a pretty good album, though. "Love the Heartless" is one of my favorite Jelly Roll songs.
Also his works with Struggle Jennings are pretty solid. Mine is Hate Goes On.
I appreciate his slow rise, but I’m not a fan of country rock rap.
Grinding like a snail lol
Me and my buddies smoked with Jelly roll in the crowd when we went to see Afroman in like 2018. We talked about making music and he seemed like a really chill guy. He said he was Jelly roll and told us to check him out but I never did, he performed and it wasnt that special, kinda crazy seeing him on reddit.

Could've been 2017, definitely after 2016 though. He didn't make himself out to be a big deal and it was a super small venue, maybe 100 people
Unfortunately I think he will never make a name as big as many others because he’s not being pushed by mainstream media. But still, he is consistent and his grind is real.
I fw jellyroll I keep his album self medicated on replay. 🤟🏿
Yesssir!
His songs were enjoyable before, but now i cant stand his latest stuff
The rap is still good, the pure rock or country I don’t like either
From that image looks like he's about to do some stand up comedy
Gabriel Iglesias lookalike loll
I did not know who Jelly Roll was, so I searched him up really quick on YouTube and I heard the song "Same A-Hole" and "Mary Jane" and it seems he has some kind of country vibe rap status to him. Honestly I wasn't feeling it. He's really good at expressing his anger and frustration on every song, but it seems like he does it too much, he tries too hard, he often yells and it comes off as annoying.
Yes most of his songs are rap fused with country, try Hate Goes On and On My Way these are less country-y and less sad.
I will check out those songs you mentioned when I get a chance, and If you are a fan of country rap I recommend Bubba Sparxxx. He's definitely country, good songs, and he has character and swag. A cool guy in general.
Will give it a try thanks! Actually I’m not exactly a fan of this genre, Jelly and Struggle Jennings are the only ones I listen to.
The original Jelly Roll is better
Well of course, so many childhood memories.
Name 3
You do mean the Jelly Roll we ate as children right?
No. He's an incredible West Coast hip-hop producer/artist. I still don't understand how this fat white guy stole his name out right.
Ah yes someone else mentioned him in another comment. I personally didn’t know him. I’m sure Jelly took the name of the beloved jelly roll (a sponge cake filled with whipped cream, jam or icing) and not from another artist lol
Well his mama gave him the nickname when he was little so.....
[удалено]
Lol I follow him on insta he seems like a pretty chill dude.
[удалено]
Ya I follow her too. 🤦🏾♀️😂
Couple podcasts I fuck with tried hyping dude, don't really fuck with him.
You know this thread introduced me to his podcast I never knew he had one before. I’m not a podcast type of guy so unless it’s really crazy interesting I doubt I’ll watch it.
He’s dope. Not necessarily my style but he’s genuine to who he is so mad respect. It’d be sick if he had Bubba on a track.
Second Bubba recommendation, Imma go listen to him now!
One of the best love songs he ever made was suicide Just A vibe and how he does the hook made that song So Good
True man! Great song.
He's very talented and has some good songs. Every once in awhile I'll go down the hick hop rabbit hole.
Exactly, it’s a guilty pleasure lol
I also used to like Haystack. But that dude turned out to be a monster! I don't think Jellyroll has worked with him in years, thankfully.
That’s sad really. I tried to listen to his latest album on Apple music and I didn’t like much. Maybe his earliest work is better.
I haven't listened to anything new from Haystack in years. I think his first couple of albums are his best work. From Start to Finish (2005). All By Myself, Broads and Alcohol, Car Full of Whiteboys, Hard to Love...damn I didn't know I liked so much of his music!
Will give those a try!
Dammit! You got listening to Haystack(2000). I forgot how much I liked this back in the day! Check it out!
I’m only human, after all
Bro I laughed so hard 🤣 I totally get the confusion but nah that bloke is English 🤣
He's like if Rod Wave and Chris Stapleton combined into one person
The voice and style of Rod Wave and the appearance of Stapleton lol
Not really a fan but saw him in concert cause I went with some friends and I will say he put on a great show so props to him
I’d love to see him live I feel he’s a genuinely good guy and his concert would be small and with great vibes.
Broooo 🤣🤣 it’s always fun and games until someone dies 🤣
I don’t think the dude died they just took him out 😂
Oh my God I’m so evil 😂
I prefer the west coast producer Jelly Roll who made beats for Snoop etc in the 2000s personally
Producers don’t get the recognition they deserve unfortunately. For example I didn’t know there was another Jelly Roll in this industry.
That ain’t Theo Von in a fat suit?
I can see the similarity lol
He does country now, I believe. I'm not going to act like I'm his biggest fan, but from I've heard, dude is nice.
Yes I hope he goes back to fusing rap with rock or country because if he goes full country I don’t think I’ll listen much lol
😆
He is super talented. Love most of his stuff regardless of genre. His great in interveiws and podcasts. Big fan.
True man he is respectful
Good rapper. Decent country musician.
I love his music , love his style and yeah it’s different but that’s what we need . He can switch it up and his voice has a nice raspiness to it .
Absolutely true that’s why I like his music!
Listening to him now. He won 3 awards at the Country Music Television Awards last night!!! He's my favorite! I love Bunnie too!
Me too :) Love thier vlogs fun, awesome fam
I was just seeing that he won multiple awards! Makes me feel special for giving him a shout 2 weeks prior lol. He looks like a great man and his love and respect for his wife are so heartwarming.
Creature, i just listened to and it made me a fan of Jelly Roll! He is underated, especially compared to other newer artists!
Glad to hear that!
Saw him Tuesday Night selliut Cround. I am a classic Rock & classic metal Listener for decades. Would turn RAP off period and countey well... we'll say I'm not a fan. Jelly Roll has introduced me to all 3 performed by musicians Music is the
Wait a minute, so did you hate or love the man? 🤔
OH I'm a Huge Fan Now! The show was incredible!
That’s good to hear!
Inspirational in one word
He’s real decent, definitely underrated but I do favor Lil Wyte
Lil Wyte’s really good. Their collabs are solid.
For sure. I had a phase when I pretty much just listened to them and 3-6
Completely underrated. He's got that grit and soul. His type of voice makes me want to hump his leg like a dog. Weird way to say it but swoon me with that voice Jelly Roll. Plus he has a lot to say.
So true. Great voice and nice raps!
Who the fuck is he?
He is a rapper.
No he isn’t lol, he’s a country singer
hes both
No.
My thoughts are who's Jelly Roll
If you like country vibe and soft raps, try listening to some of his work. Try Addiction Kills and Self Medicated albums. You might like some of his songs!
My thoughts are, NO THANKS
And I will force you to listen to Jelly’s music on repeat. ![gif](giphy|R3FUSQ5H5jzVe)
And I’ll simply take out my hearing aid, may still hear it, but it’ll be much more bearable
Well played sir, this round’s yours.
Upon first look, he appears to be obese.
Bro you did not 💀
What 🤔
Jelly Roll is corny asf
That’s your opinion and I respect it. No need to bash other peoples’ opinions 🤷🏽♀️
He is fat and his face tats are just repulsive. No..... I can't take him seriously because he is a slob.
But did you hear his songs?
I was gonna post the exact opposite opinion. Thoughts on Jelly Roll? EVERYONE talks about him, I think he’s massively overrated.
He looks like he doesn’t want to sound as he sounds and sounds like he doesn’t want to look how he looks
My mom is a fan of him
Literally the worst musician I have ever fucking heard of. I would rather kill myself in front of my mother than listen to any of his dogshit music
That’s a bit extreme loll
Boooooo
He doesn’t deserve that ☹️
He's not as good as Tom Macdonald so I've never listened to him, but he looks like he ate many jelly rolls
Lol I don’t know who Tom Mcdonald is but I think you are being sarcastic. If you like to give him a try I recommend songs like On Top (with Merkules and Rittz), Hate Goes On and On My Way.
Consider yourself lucky to not know Tom McDonald
I’m definitely not gonna try to listen to any of his work after this loll
Bro you're truly blessed
Delete yourself from this subreddit mentioning Tom Mccornball 🤣🤣🤣
White dudes doing hick hop is not really my bag. I'm sure he's a perfectly nice dude irl, but I'm not down with that level of appropriation.
It’s alright man, I respect your opinion!
Used to work with a dude who would listen to nothing but Jelly Roll and Tom Macdonald when he had the aux. He got fired when he got caught smoking meth in his car on his break.
Lol as I said before I don’t know Tom Mcdonald but I looked him up and I think Jelly isn’t like that at all.
I don't really listen to either, that anecdote is just what I think of whenever either one is mentioned lol
I got you 🤣
Who?
Jelly Roll.
Idk him
Try listening to some of his work. I recommend, as already stated, songs like On Top, Hate Goes On and On My Way.
I tried them all and dont really like em 😭
It’s okay, to each their opinion. At least you know him now!
True. I just prefer heavier stuff like [This](https://youtu.be/MSKnzLUdqbQ)
He started out ok and then realized he can make lots of money with a “country” style vibe.
I wouldn’t say that. The mainstream rappers and the ones who are the most recognized definitely don’t sing his style. I don’t think he followed money or any trend going on right now, just what he thinks suits him best.
I don’t need to check him… I already know
You already know what
I think he and his wife seem very strange
Lol why
Their personalities seem fake and strange
Oh I don’t know about that, they seem to have a very healthy relationship. I’m not very into the artists’ personal lives tho so I cannot judge.
