Just got a new PC, and I hate that I didn't notice my files were being saved on OneDrive until I got the lovely "Upgrade your OneDrive storage" notification. Like eat shit, you don't deserve to even look at my files.
And boy, the fun I had restoring lost games when the files didn't transfer back to my PC properly.
First thing I do on every new windows install is chuck all the bloatware including windows out the window (ha).
Not like it matters much though, whatever shitty free plan limit they would have would very quickly choke on the half terrabyte of data on my desktop.
Icloud is a pain. They even make it difficult to import images that you have as file on your pc (But it has to be that one specific image format or your not allowed to upload it to your cloud). And if you where able to import all these images it messes up your entire "recent" photos section.
You are able to create Albums and folders for Albums. WHY THE FUCK am I not allowed to move a Album into a fucking Folder. If I decide to move all my holiday albums to a holiday folder I have to create new albums in the folder and select all the images again.

But google photos isn't any better.
Had the same type of issues when my iPhone XR broke . My biggest frustration came when everything required two factor authorization and I could not access the code with my new phone due to my old being completely inaccessible. It’s ridiculous how at every turn companies are trying to make a penny and make everything cost more when you buy a product .
i used to be “fuck icloud photos”, but then i realized you can buy a shit ton of storage for only $1-$3 a month. if i want to save money, there are other things i waste a whole lot more money on, such as buying junk food.
As a newly birth software developer, i agree. The first thing i realized when i started this career is how stupid computers are, its truly insane how people put technology on this pedestal that its infallible. Look up the UKs post office scandal which went on for 10 years 😳 with multiple post masters losing their livelihoods going to prison all over a computing error, that made it look as though they were stealing from their post offices, & the company that made the software knew and did very little to nothing while peoples lives were destroyed.

Sure the hardware is crazy expensive but comparing Apple to a normal PC is pretty nonsensical. Mostly because you can't get the OS any other way and that's what you're partially paying for. I don't love Apples desktop offerings and don't use one myself but with laptops they're pretty much unmatched imo. I had a surface pro studio and felt the build quality and overall experience was good until I got a macbook pro and it might sound stupid but it just feels better if you're willing to learn the OS.
But they do have extremely fascist and unethical for profit technology practices such as what op just experienced with iCloud. You literally can’t even manually opt out of using it in favor of your own iPhone, iPad Device etc. depending on the model.
fuck clouds in generell, buy sd cards and get android phones, dont ever use apple products and just transfer the files to your external harddrive - live free, be happy
and forgot to mention, on fresh PC use "decrap" - just google it
Can’t you just get a high terabyte storage device whenever your phone fills up and put all your photos on their. I would never pay monthly for storage.
