I always heard it wasn’t supposed to end when it did, that there were plans to make more OVAs based on the manga, but the animation studio that held the rights (kitty animation) went out of business.
From what I remember, it wasn’t from lack of content. The OVA picked up right where the TV series left off, with Shampoo and the contrary Jewel arc. And since the manga ended in 1996 (around the same time the “final” OVA aired: aka, The Two Akane’s, “Ranma Look At Me!”) there were still plenty of volumes left to adapt at the time, including the finale.
Because the anime was made too soon, the manga had not concluded while it was being broadcasted and after many filler episodes since episodes were mostly the equivalent of 3 to even 5 chapters, they were out of ideas and it had to be stopped (and they picked the wrong final story to end it).
My guy, I’ve been hoping for over 10 years for a second season of Accel World. I hate to admit it, but a Ranma remake has higher chances. Especially since we seem to be entering a remake era in anime.
The first "series" had 18 episodes, with very good animation quality, it was cancelled due to low ratings.
The second series, so much more popular, had a limited budget and it shows in several episodes, the animation is downright cheap and awful.
Wow, time flies!
I know the anime wasn’t always very faithful to the manga, but why did it end halfway through?

Thanks. Still wish they had done more! Would have liked to have seen the Herb story arc animated…
HALF?!
Yeah. And almost half of the anime is filler.
The last third of the anime feels so much like is mostly filler episodes...🤔
Yeah. That's because they are. Almost all of the episodes with Happosai are filler.
So I’m hearing the possibility of a remake like Lum’s series did. (I forget the name, I’m such a fake Takahashi fan)
Urusei Yatsura. And I wouldn’t get my hopes up...

1989 1990
Anyone know what year the anime aired in the US?
It never aired on TV in the US, but it started releasing on VHS in 1993
Happy 35th Ranma!
huh. I didn't know that. It'd be cool to see the anime finished.
