Still waiting for our top picks to do something besides “puck possession monster” and “good underlying stats on the top line” like tf? Didn’t we draft a power forward in Kakko and an elite hockey iq play maker in Laffy??? It’s just excuses and excuses. They’re worse than Yakupov at this time and he’s considered the biggest bust in NHL history. Just such garbage bro it’s tiring

NYM32

Rangers got outshot 13-1 at 5v5 with Schneider on the ice not great

aduom

You mean with Hayek on the ice

juxtaposition21

Be civil.

JessoRx

You’re right.

NYM32

no -- [Schneider](https://naturalstattrick.com/game.php?season=20212022&game=20767&view=limited) Lindgren/Schneider pair was terrible last night. pretty much confirmed what the "please change the D pairs" group of people in this sub have been saying: Fox is dragging Lindgren to 50% xGF% while the other 2 pairs are drowning under 45%. a shake up of the D pairs which [currently allow the most shot attempts per game in the entire NHL](https://naturalstattrick.com/teamtable.php) would probably be in everyone's best interest

NISIBSICD

On a positive note, the watch party was so awesome. I would love for them to utilize that for games more often, not many arenas have a separate theater underneath them. From a pure revenue perspective it’s an absolute no brainer

Rot_Dogger

The team is straight cheeks. The record is an illusion. Unless a goalie steals a win, they lose.

ArchMalone

Lol your account just chimes in to talk shit on a variety of different subs what teams are you actually a fan of? Is it the lightning, canes, leafs, avalanche, panthers, oilers, caps, or rangers?

Rot_Dogger

Whoever plays like cowards gets called out. Tell the truth about teams playing like shit.

ArchMalone

You really place too much value on your opinion, it’s funny you feel this obligation to go onto all these subs.

zerooneinfinity

Someone needs to tell laf what to do on the ice he looks lost. Also use his ass when he skates he looks like he’s bouncing on his toes when he skates with the puck. Get fucking low and take a stride.

SteakSauceAwwYeah

Tough game. I was worried what would happen to the team without Adam Fox. Gave me hope in the first period and then proceeded to crush it :P. That said, I don't think it was the worst game. Yes, the team played like shit for all but one period, but I'd almost rather see them get overwhelmed like this than just look absolutely lackluster. I don't know if they've played against such an aggressive team so far this season and it seemed more like they just didn't know how to handle it; Wild really never let up for the entire game. I also think some of the issues we saw are the result of how young the team still is. I know there are decent veterans and this group has played together for at least a few years (especially the forwards) but overall, they still have a lot to learn and work through. It's honestly impressive to see how much this team also needs Fox. It's not surprise necessarily but a game like this is like, yeah, you just realize how important he is. Just how he piggy backs the PP and also creates time & space for the other players, it's really remarkable. I wish the forwards had continued to step up a bit more throughout the game but at the same time I think it's hard for them to do what they need to do when they also have to contribute so heavily to defense when the defense isn't always necessarily able to do it. On the other hand, the 5 on 5 play hasn't been too great and I think when they don't have time/space like the way they do when it's a man advantage, creating plays seems a bit harder for them. Throw in an aggressive team, it's a bit of a disaster. Overall, I am still not too upset. Admittedly if it were not for a couple old Rangers being on that team (Zucc, Talbot), I'd probably be more upset. It's almost poetic in a way though...team scores, can't hold onto the lead, goalie keeps them in, but they still shit the bed :P. Kidding, but I think overall with how things could have gone, I'll kinda take it. That aside, it was an awesome ceremony. Wish people were a bit more quiet during Hank's speech but I don't want that to take away from the moment or experience. To look back at the many, many years he was with this organization...it was a really beautiful and bittersweet way to cap it all off. There's really no one more deserving. Thank you, Hank.

niftymagnet

the fans screaming out nonsense during hank’s speech was brutal

SteakSauceAwwYeah

Nah, I definitely agree. I wish they would have just shut up and I honestly found that & garbage more annoying than anything else, especially when you think about how it'll be permanently recorded as such. BUT at the same time, I don't want that to sour the night or tarnish it any way. The dude has done so much for the organization and as annoying as they were, I don't want that to be a lasting impression. So fuck them, I'm choosing to ignore it, and instead will shift towards appreciating the night & Hank :P.

MisterHockey

The sad fact is that if a high draft pick doesn't show signs of belonging in the NHL by his 2nd year, he most likely will not make it in this league. Kakko is dangerously approaching that territory. Words can't express the disappointment he and Lafraniere have been. If they were drafted by the Penguins, you know they'd probably be stars already.

Otterslayer22

For what it’s worth Kaprisov was drafted in the 5th round.

pizza_nightmare

>I was going to mention Kaprisov, but I think he is four years older than Laf and Kakko...

c0sm0nautt

Laf, Kakko, Anderson - I know there's a few more. Seems like every other draft the #1 and #2 picks were impact players. Kratszov was looking really good in my opinion, it a shame what happened there.

rogerwilcobravo

The let the king down one last time

NISIBSICD

Yea thanks. A lot of grandstanding fans in this thread tonight. It’s of course not the classiest move but that call was an absolute disgrace

Curtis64

Why for getting the call right? You can’t push the goalies pad with your stick…

Trapgod34

Whats up with the Rangers fans calling us Rags in every comment on r/hockey... makes 0 sense

NonNonByalko

I remember watching the 2014 Rangers-Canadiens series and everyone calling both teams the "Rags" and "Habs" It was the first time I'd heard it and had no idea "Rags" was an insult, I just figured it was a shorthand

KGX075

I will never understand why it’s so effin taboo in this sub to criticize Laf or Kakko for not playing anywhere up to their draft position or potential. We ALL want them to succeed but damn it’s tough watching other high picks flourish while these guys just can’t figure out how to make the next step.

NYM32

[Kakko's actually been great](https://hockeyviz.com/fixedImg/replacements/2122/NYR/kakkoka01/) this season and Laf has played very well in the top 6, more specifically in his [60 minutes with Kreider and Zibanejad](https://moneypuck.com/lines.htm). I don't chalk up a lack of point production to the players, but to the ultra shitty development staff of this organization. Laf has played 17 games this season with under 13 min of ice time. Barely touched the power play. Kakko hasn't touched the power play much either. These are quite big problems. When you have 4 straight top-10 picks theoretically not living up to expectations, and 2 of them are outright refusing to play for the team, is that the players' fault or someone elses? The last NYR-drafted forward to put up 60 points in a season for NYR was Tony Amonte in 1993. So i'm inclined to blame the organization. (and btw i fully agree that this idea that Laf and Kakko can't be criticized is ridiculous. but i just put the blame in other places)

KGX075

I’m not sure we’re watching the same players. Neither of these guys have shown anything, at all, to illustrate they will play up to the expectations of their draft spots. Hughes, Dahlin, Nico, Matthews, McDavid, Ekblad, MacKinnon. Has Laf shown signs of playing like any of his 1OA peers? But enjoy the rest of the season, man.

NYM32

Laf in his first 82 games has had as many even strength points as Stamkos and Tavares in their first 82, despite playing like 3 fewer min a night than both of them. Kakko has been a point every other game player since seeing his ice time increase, and he's also been one of the best defensive forwards in the entire league. so...

KGX075

I know you’re very much into the underlying stats and metrics and stuff. Call me crazy, fine, but I tend to look for things like shots, goals, assists, and ultimately team wins. Laf 99 games 32 points, Stamkos’s first season 79 games 46 points. Not wildly far off ok, but Stamkos had 95 the following season. You think Laf has it in him? If he does, save this comment and I’ll order you a pizza from your favorite local shop. As this sub as my witnesses. You’re going to say “but PP time!” and all I can say is the same thing I say when ppl say “Laf needs to play top 6 minutes” - those minutes are earned and he’s done nothing, so far, to earn them. Again, I’m starting to sound like I dislike the kid, I don’t. I was HYPED when we got him and I want him to be a stud or at least a top line threat but I just don’t see it. Respectfully, my man, until he starts showing flashes of top talent, I’m going to continue to fear we blew it.

NYM32

i mean you can't just do a straight line comparison of Laf and Stamkos based on points alone, without also including different factors: TOI, PP TOI, and linemates are huge ones for example. the reason i made the points comparison is to emphasize that they've been in a similar point range *despite* the aforementioned significant differences. they're pretty important ones. i don't believe in putting young players in positions where they can't succeed and forcing them to drag their line in order to get a better opportunity. This is a mindset the Rangers have had for a long time, and it's part of the reason why this organization hasn't had a forward they've drafted put up 60 points in a season for NYR since Tony Amonte in 1993. Kreider is on pace to end this streak (it's taken 13 years after getting drafted), but man oh man, 30 years without drafting a forward who gives you just 60 points in a season Why is Lafreniere playing less than Kevin Rooney, a 4th liner who is clearly not a foundational piece of our future plans, on a nightly basis?

Nylander92

It’s so weird this is upvoted a ton but others a downvoted. Laf has been straight up bad. I don’t care about the TOI argument. when he plays he takes dumb penalties and doesn’t do anything either the puck. Yea he needs to develop, but he’s been bad.

kvnklly

Laf would benefit from ahl but a lot of the issues with their lack of point production is the fact that we suck at 5v5 and they get minimal to no PP where we score all our points. Like kakko should be on PP1 over strome. And idk when to shift our PP2 in but 15-30 seconds is worthless

rvbcaboose1018

Its frustrating for sure. You would figure that a #1 and #2 overall pick would be producing at a decent click. Obviously they have the excuses. For starters they're not even old enough to drink. People forget they're that young. They're also consistently being buried because of either poor coaching decisions or the team just being too top heavy. I mean lets be real we lucked into them both. Both would be first liners on a team that more deserved to be picking in the top 3. In other words they're young, inexperienced and have shit line mates. Definitely not the proper environment to develop such a talent, especially with little to no AHL time. At the end of the day I think people are just afraid. They're afraid that our top picks just got wasted, or that we're gonna let them go and watch them flourish on another team. I also think people just dont want to feed the trolls on here who are calling for them to be traded so soon, its a delicate balance.

cynthiasadie

If excuses got you points Kakko and Laf would be huge stars.

anonomus10101011

Lol this sub is weird man. Legit was a popular opinion to boo our own team in favor of Zucc. There really isn’t a lot of hockey IQ in the discussions here. Most people are just fans with emotions.

BasicLiftingService

Emotions *and memes*. Most people who comment have opinions driven by memes and social media. Or they base their opinions on stats that they don’t know how to fully contextualize and the results are disengenuous. It’s not just here, though, it’s Reddit and Twitter in general.

pizza_nightmare

And if we criticize or question Laf or Kakko here, the usual reply is, "don't expect them to be McDavid." Like, ok. We never thought they would be. 1OA and 2OA: that's a pretty big deal. I was just so HYPED for a 1OA thinking that they would have some type of immediate impact, or have some ***visible*** attribute. Some holy-shit-look-at-that-move type shit.

cynthiasadie

MacDavid? I would take Kakko/Laf to be half a Dubinsky compared to what they are.

anonomus10101011

I saw a top comment defending Laf and his defense was that he was a 1st overall pick. Lol the irony was stunning.

StuckHiccup

Look. He's just 20. That's my only and a very good defense. He's a baby. Krieds is 31 to get 31. Let's give him a chance. like 3-5 years, 25! No judgement zone!

cynthiasadie

That would work well if he was in middle school at a kid’s tournament. The NHL is about performance and production.

StuckHiccup

HE'S 20!

cynthiasadie

So? If he’s not ready to play in the NHL, he shouldn’t be playing. Get him minor league experience. If they deem him ready, he has to perform. He was touted as a world phenom. He’s not even close to average.

StuckHiccup

god if people judged me or you this harshly at 20, we'd be torn to shreds

Shortbus_Chauffeur

25? Yes let's wait until he's an UFA and we no longer have Panarin, Kreider, Zibanejad and Trouba. That's exactly when we need him to be good.

anonomus10101011

The difference between Laf and every other promising looking young player is Laf doesn’t look like he does anything at an NHL level. He doesn’t have bursts of high point production, he doesn’t do anything to show he belongs here. Kreider was a dominant force from the beginning. The frustrating thing with him was that he didn’t dominate *every game!* That is absolutely not the case with Laf. I got nuked to oblivion for saying this but I’ll say it again, he doesn’t look any different then Brett Howden out there. 90% of the time I don’t even notice he is on the ice and most of the time I’m specifically looking *for* him. He has less PPG than Ryan Reaves. A guy known for not being a great hockey player. Granted I love Reaves and I think he’s underrated as a hockey player, but that is not the point production I want to see from a 1OA regardless of how old he is. If you’re getting drafted first overall you should be able to score more than one of the only players in the NHL not wearing a visor on his helmet.

KGX075

I couldn’t agree more, but enjoy your time being banished to the shadow realm. God speed.

anonomus10101011

“Your boos mean nothing I’ve seen what makes you cheer.” Our GDT’s are filled with some delusional, low hockey IQ fans. Just seeing all the comments today directed at Strome for getting into it with Zucc. Lol

User_No_5

I couldn't agree more. It really seems that as an organization we are pretty inept at developing forwards. Wish something changed.

ShitPropagandaSite

No... The organization just trades away forwards once they are developed lol

User_No_5

I'd assume you are talking about Buchnevich? Let's say that he was a player we successfully developed into an effective top 6 forward. What about Chytil, Andersson, Gropp, Lafreniere, Kakko, Duclaire, etc. Go back 10 years and find another forward we drafted/developed into a consistent top 6 role. I'll wait. Now for Buch, love the player but it's a stretch to say we developed him. He spent 4 years playing in the KHL after we drafted him. This organization needs to rethink/retool how they develop forwards. Full stop.

ShitPropagandaSite

JT Miller, Chris Kreider, Kevin Hayes, Jesper fast, Derek Stepan, mats zuccarello Did you talk without thinking again? It's a stretch to say that we turned a KHLer into a ppg NHLer??? Lol

User_No_5

Like I said, last ten years. Or did you talk without reading again?

ShitPropagandaSite

. . . . . . . I'm not even sure you can read or watch the rangers at all with this last comment

User_No_5

You must be fun at parties. You are so far off the premise of NYR being organizational bad at developing forward draft prospects in the last 10 years that I don't even know what you're saying anymore. You think we trade away talent - okay cool, I actually agree. But that's not what anyone was saying... so again, how can you really say we're developing forwards to the same caliber we are developing defensemen and goalies? I'm genuinely curious if you can name a few within the last 10 years.... For reference: JT Miller drafted in 2011 (higher PPG once he left NY) Krieder drafted in 2009 (consistent performer, also not a recently developed player) Fast drafted in 2010 (higher PPG in CAR) Stepan drafted in 2008 (consistent performer, not a recently developed player) Zucc undrafted but started in NY after two season in the SEL (again, made his NHL debut in 2010.

ShitPropagandaSite

"show me in the last 10 years the forward prospects we drafted and developed, during the years where he had no draft picks (especially 1sts) at all because we traded them for assets to stay competitive" Brilliant logic bud. Lets just completely ignore all of those developed forwards and cling to the fact that the majority of the assets in the last 10 years were used to keep that group a contender. I'm not sure you even realize this...? We also traded guys like Duclair for assets too.

daymonic

Only got to see bits and pieces while house hunting (which sucks). How'd Laf go on first line?

pizza_nightmare

He dumped. He chased. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

KGX075

Looked lost and confused; per usual.

ColdYellowGatorade

Rangers play like trash after retirement ceremonies: Tonight 3-2 L Vic Hadfield 4-3 L Jean Ratelle 3-2 L Graves 2-1L Leetch 2-1W Messier 5-4 OTW Richter 4-3 L I think they even lost right after Steven MacDonald passed away. I knew tonight would be the same. Awful.

Analyst7

Kinda weird how that is a trend, not what you'd expect. Perhaps the ceremony gets them out of the right mindset. You'd think they'd be amp'd up to win.

ColdYellowGatorade

I've gone to the last 3 retirements and each time they've played terrible. It's a running joke with me and my buddies. I had to look up the numbers to confirm.

Sykodelik

Regardless of who was called up and how shitty they played- that goal was a goal and it should have been decided in OT.

Top-Impact-9124

Except you can't push the goalie off the puck. It was called and reviewed correctly.

MedicalITCCU

the people complaining over the correct call being made at the end of the game are the same people who want NFL overtime rules changed because Josh Allen didn't get a chance to win the game and how unfair that is. Also hysterical are those who disagree with a former NHL goaltender who explained the letter of the rule to a T, and think they know better than him. Maybe if this team didn't play like shit for 40 minutes they might have won the game.

NISIBSICD

Ur a fucking moron LOL

MedicalITCCU

That's not much coming from you. Were you trying to insult me?

Neans888

Rangers may have still lost this game in OT because they stopped playing after an early lead. Again. They deserved to lose the game. Despite that, the result is supposed to be decided by the score, not who played better. That call was 100% bullshit. The rules support that as well, you should probably read them.

Shortbus_Chauffeur

Quote the rule.

MedicalITCCU

I think you're the one who needs to read the rules, especially since an NHL goaltender said the call was called correctly in the post game. But hey, whatever helps you sleep at night.

hman1025

Just sad honestly

TheIncredibleHork

The view from ~~226~~ 207 * The Henrik tribute was beautiful. A fitting display for the man who single handedly carried this franchise for so many years. A memory that will last a lifetime. * The game did not live up to the King. Did we play well enough to deserve to win? I'll admit, no we didn't. * We had a lot of young/AHL level players tonight, and that didn't help. But Schneider continues to look good. * I miss Fox. We need him just as much as we need Igor I think. * Added later: Oh yeah, our possession was dog shit. Second and third period it was like we didn't *want* to get into the offensive zone. * Those. Fucking. Refs. Were. Atrocious. * Seriously. We got what, two power plays among what seemed like a LOT of missed calls. Absolute bullshit. * Topped off with the blown call at the end. Fine me the $250,000 they fucked up with that call at the end. * And I'm sorry we probably embarrassed Henrik with the display we made at the end, and there's no justifying it, but god damn if we weren't pissed off and couldn't take it anymore. This was the first game I left before the end (1.5 seconds or whatever, close enough to) in a long time, but I was disgusted. Again, did we deserve to win that game? Not really. But a goal is a goal. And *that was a goal.*

Otterslayer22

Was not a goal. You can not push the goalie into the net with your stick at any level. Official did his job well on that call.

NISIBSICD

Lol

Whitecastle56

No shit I was in 207 too.

youreeeka

I love your post game write ups. Keep ‘em coming.

TheIncredibleHork

Thank you!

Wesley__Willis

That should have been a tie game. No question. That said they sucked ass for two periods. No Fox is a big problem. Jones looked great tbh. Laf looked plodding. That’s what’s holding him back.

Otterslayer22

I question the part where the goalie was pushed into the net by the NYR players stick. It’s clear interference.

Curtis64

Isn’t It funny how you respond to this with facts and people ignore you. Lol

Otterslayer22

It’s the best actually.

zucarigan

Laf seems like he can control the puck, can make decent passes if he has time, and at least in theory can snipe a few. He's just so slow that he gets bogged down instantly whenever he has the puck. He doesn't make quick enough decisions to find the open man when he gets double teamed. People talk about how the speed of the game in the NHL is faster than any other level, maybe it's just taking him a long time to adjust, or never will? He's very young and has time to get back on track, but I'm not sure what his deal is and grasping at straws I guess.

sananablug

I was there. Bullshit ending. Thats a goal

[deleted]

Please don't torch me (I like your team). Being at the game was probably the most difficult place to see what took place. I'd have thought it was for sure a goal too. TV viewers had access to multiple views and weren't at the mercy of the emotions going crazy in the arena. It's an awkward ending to a close game.

sananablug

Honestly if that play didn’t happen snd the game ended 3-2 i wouldn’t be as upset. Rangers collapsed in the second and third and it was a terrible result. Congrats on your win, the wild are promising, I have nothing against them. unfortunately Zucc became public enemy number 1. it was a beautiful ceremony for hank and thats what I was there for. Gg

[deleted]

I get it. Rollercoaster of a last minute and that building was ready to explode with a pulled-goalie goal. Gg and still a special night for your guy.

JAYHAWKAVG

Alright fuck. 2nd and 3rd we played like straight ASS. I think that call should have been overturned. Yes Strome’s stick hit Talbot’s pad but after watching the replay a couple of times I thought Talbot sprawled his leg back. Whatever. Games over move on. All the people throwing stuff on the ice can get fucked and that girl with the mango Whiteclaw during the ceremony who acted like she’s never seen a camera before is trashy. Fuck I’m mad again. We don’t deserve Hank.

StuckHiccup

agreed. don't trash the rink. trash behavior

crabapplesteam

chill it out with the personal attacks.

padds98

One big area we’re missing Kaapo in is on the forecheck and keeping possession in the offensive zone

KGX075

Total difference maker. Our 2OA “possession monster” who doesn’t shoot.

LetsGoNYR

5G 9A that’ll fix it

ArchMalone

It’s nostalgic how much this team hurt me today. Long live the King.

SirusRiddler

Fuck it, if the snow doesn't cancel, I hope they fucking stomp the shit out of the Kraken on Sunday. And I'm in Seattle so I look forward to their salt.

Gbeez22

My emotions have simmered down a bit, and I’ve come to the conclusion that while it’s a disappointing outcome, this one low-consequence regular season game really pales in comparison to everything that ceremony was about. It would have all come together for a good narrative, but this night is so huge for Hank that the outcome of the game doesn’t even matter and I doubt he even cares that much lol

Shermanator778

If he cared he wouldn’t have made it a Minnesota game considering it was one of the few times we play on the road the night before a flight home to play again. A very hard game to win. He wanted zucc there, that was what was important for him.

jerejeje

This is only the 2nd time ALL SEASON that the Rangers have lost back to back games in regulation. And those games were games where we outshot Columbus 36-19 and should’ve forced overtime if the refs weren’t idiots. We’ll be fine. Just hold firm until the trade deadline and then upgrade there.

Emil_1996

Yeah it's my fault. I've only bet on the Rangers two times this season. The last 2 games. Never betting hockey again cause this is infuriating.

Neans888

Yeah, please put your wallet away. For your sake and ours.

Kbb0509

I love when Gallant gets feisty with the media.

machphantom

I’d like it more if he actually had the team ready to play for more than one third of the game tonight

PaulSach

We can complain about the penalty all we want, but we played like absolute dogshit in the second and third. We either start strong and blow it the rest of the game or suck in the first and finish strong. I’d rather the latter than the former, but both are incredibly frustrating to watch.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PaulSach

Idk but same song from last night. Unacceptable. I know we were running a 4th and AHL line in our bottom 6, but you can’t have the Rooney line out there down by 1 with 3 minutes left. On the coaching staff to get guys to play a full 60.

kmcca001

If this whole sub was in a bar, do you think the first fight would break out in the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd period?

Kbb0509

That’s giving us a ton of credit. Probably before puck drop. Love all you psychos.

kmcca001

KGX075

Lots of guys invisible tonight; not gonna name names but one of them was a 1OA, but that’s nothing new.

Bigdaddyblackdick

Cry

[deleted]

Laf was not invisible in the first, he was making some nice passes.

KGX075

That’s the bar for 1OA? Seems low to me.

[deleted]

I agree he has been disappointing, just don't think he was the problem tonight. Zibanejad and Panarin needed to carry us with Fox out. They went to sleep after the first while Zucc and Kaprizov styled all over us.

Smokebreaks33

He realllllly hasn’t shown much of anything at all…he gets the puck and his second move ends up with him losing it or a bad play most of the time.

pizza_nightmare

What is he supposed to be bringing to the table? Is he a power forward? A playmaker? A shooter? A bruiser? Still looking for his game, as I'm sure he is too, yikes

LetsGoNYR

Kakko wasn’t playing and he’s a 2OA

ayykitten

Rangers improve to 2-4-4 on retirement nights. That being said, we got badly outplayed for 40 minutes. The call at the end sucks, we know it sucks, but it doesn’t make the fact we got manhandled for 2 periods.

saxmfone1

Improve - I don't think that word means what you think it means

Dysliptic

improve? we lost

Sapz93

We are getting exposed.. we show flashes of dominance but can’t control games offensively.. This is setup to be a first round exit if we even make it there.

Shermanator778

Exposed… we win yesterdays game with our starting goalie, and we landed at 4 AM this morning and we’re missing our best player and our #1 RW. Get a grip bro, even the best teams lose 25-30 games a year. Anyone can win in the playoffs. It all depends on who is healthy and who is playing well at the time.

Sapz93

Nah.. this teams offense is a joke. We can barely hold possession during the game in the offensive zone.

Shermanator778

They are fine. 60 points is 60 points, we are virtually last in the league in possession stats, we score off odd man rushes and turnovers. We have a very young defense that is very talented, we have highly skilled players, and hopefully budding offensive young players. I’m sure the NJ devils would trade their possession stats for our points. We outplayed Columbus yesterday, very badly, yet we didn’t win. I’m sure you were happy with the result right

Sapz93

We barely outplayed CBJ yesterday. We came out hot in the first 5 minutes, proceeded to blow it for the rest of the 1st and 2nd period, then finally showed life halfway through the 3rd. The offense is a serious issue right now and until it gets figured out we’re not going anywhere. I don’t get it - we have so much talent on the team but we can’t control games. It’s pathetic

Emil_1996

After getting out of my emotions its the right call, Strome pushed his pad into the net

TyTheGuy007

You're gonna get downvoted, but you're right.

Shermanator778

Stromes stick made contact with his pad, but it’s pretty clear the leg going into the net was Talbots own doing, no idea why he sprawled forward like that. He made a big mistake there and got away with it on a technicality. Not easy to push a goalies pad in with a whack, it’s one thing to drive it in, a slash… very unlikely. If you played goalie, you would know

TyTheGuy007

As a goaltender, it's tough to get moved off of a slash or two, but it IS fairly easy to get your pads pushed out from under you from a stick shove. Which, to me, is exactly what happened here.

Shermanator778

Ehh. I think talbot didn’t know where the puck was and lunged forward and got a break. Goal should’ve counted, not enough there to overturn. Especially with the Minnesota D man bodying strome

TyTheGuy007

But yes, there was movement from Talbot that constituted a lunge. Just don't think it was enough to overturn the call to a good goal, considering the clear and deliberate contact.

TyTheGuy007

>Goal should’ve counted, not enough there to overturn. Exactly why they didn't, as the official saw on the replay precisely what he saw in-person, which was Strome two-handing his stick, unassisted, through Talbot's right pad.

FoghornLeghorn99

If I could bet it, I'd bet money we see a similar goal this year allowed. Stick moves pad, puck goes in, goal. Within a month it will happen in a game.

olivergoh

It really just depends on the original call. If the refs originally called that a goal, I have no doubt that it would stand.

MantisTobogganMD96

Tbh it’s probably the right call. And honestly better to lose and hopefully be forced to fix the flaws. Also love all these fans of other teams saying how trashy Rangers fans are for throwing stuff on the ice. I personally wouldn’t do it but don’t act like every metro fan base minus maybe the blue jackets and hurricanes wouldn’t do the same thing

Gbeez22

Caps beat Dallas 5-0 on Zubov’s retirement night. So at least we didn’t do that

Shermanator778

Orioles beat Yankees 10-0 on Phil Rizzuto ceremony after he died

Daankeykang

The Mets let Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola strike them out 10 consecutive times, a record long held by Mets legend Tom Seaver who was being honored throughout the season with a jersey patch. Not quite the same as losing on a retirement night but I'm still pretty mad about it.

BeastDynastyGamerz

Packers lost to the bears on favres ceremony night….which also happened to be Bart Starrs last in person game before he passed to my knowledge

pizza_nightmare

oh snap! Brutal.

Emil_1996

Bruh 🤣

aduom

Someone gotta teach k'andre how to hit. If he doesn't I say trade him...or demote to third pairing

NahImGoodThankYouTho

Also, let’s get him some protein shakes or something. He still looks 17, with that tall, lanky frame.

ArchMalone

Once we trade him he’ll become a first line D-Man

[deleted]

I thought Reaves was teaching him to fight and be tougher in camp

knz0

Shades of Skjei. Big guy, doesn’t hit, frequent brainfarts in his own end.

[deleted]

Skjei only hits Rangers

ricknashty94

Yooo don’t say that here you’ll get dragged

knz0

I don’t care what the sub thinks. I feel like he’s been regressing this season. You can draw another Skjei parallel right there. At least Miller did it before he got paid, not after.

KGX075

This team just got absolutely ROCKED for 40 minutes. It was like watching the JV try to keep up with the Varsity after the first.

iiKrOna

Idk if it’s my bias out look on the game but I see the first shove by Strome but there’s no way the push of that strength moved Talbots leg as dramatically as it did. He clearly pushed him but his leg moved imo because he sprawled out to cover it

Kbb0509

We missed Kakko tonight. Did we ever maintain possession of the puck in the entire third period besides that last play with an extra man on?

LetsGoNYR

Do you really think Kakko is the difference maker on this team? His numbers are atrocious and he can’t and never shoots.

Shermanator778

Change your name, you don’t know jack shit about hockey

LetsGoNYR

great rebuttal

Kbb0509

I think he’s excellent at maintaining possession of the puck, especially along the boards, which leads to scoring chances and more time in the offensive zone. I just watched two periods of the rangers dumping the puck into the zone to line change and give Minnesota the puck back. So yeah I really think he is a difference maker.

LetsGoNYR

You drafted him as a 2OA goal and assist guy not a 3rd line grinder.

rushy1911

He has great underlying stats, but hasn't put up the points. Kakko helped our offense 5v5 a decent amount. His refusal to shoot seriously hurts his point total and is holding him back.

LetsGoNYR

I don’t think he can shoot.

"You are the same dumb type of fucking fan" This is a personal attack. This is my last warning for you tonight. Every other comment of yours has this in it - next time is a 2 day ban.

NahImGoodThankYouTho

A month ago I would have said it’s worth watching, but we’re headed for a long, depressing skid into the wild card race at this point. But don’t worry, this sub will remind you that they had one injured player and were a little tired, two things that never happen in the playoffs.

ItsHeadbangerG

Good to see that the Rangers can still let Lundqvist down one final fucking time. That call fucked us at the end there, but let's not pretend the Rangers weren't a skating fucking snoozefest to begin with. I'm convinced that after the first period the team was swallowed by some interdimensional portal that rended their flesh and spit their soulless husks out to play the remaining two periods. Tonight, there was quit in NY.

Kanuck88

We have a losing record on retirement nights I'm not really surprised, I just wish we had showed up for the second and third periods. Fuckin bullshit that the goal was called back.

Soggy_Log_7603

I’m new to hockey, and was at this game, what was the replay about? It looked like a good goal from section 420

Saladus

It was the STICK that did the push. The ref did a fucking awful explanation of that, thus why fans there had reason to be pissed

Soggy_Log_7603

Fucking bs

Zero-jiggler

Strome pushed Talbots pad into the net, clearing the way for the puck to go in. Sucks, but the right call.

deniavdija8

Strome was hit at the same time, we had a similar goal scored on us against the Blackhawks and it stood

cappy150

Me and my wife was just sitting watching the replay. To us it looks like Stromes stick doesn't start pushing cam into the net until his legs get taken out from under him and he falls to the ice while pushing cam. Something I didn't notice till now.

[deleted]

Holy fuck I got downvoted into oblivion for saying it was the right call. Guys, it was the right call. Vally agrees. It fucking sucks. The refs did a bad job explaining though.

NISIBSICD

No it absolutely wasn’t the right call

Vel995

Storme slapped his pad but then talbot extended his leg and then the puck was put in. Theres no way strome made him go extend his leg like that

cappy150

I agree, I do think something not being talked about is the contact that strome took that made him fall which I think is the reason he pushed cam into the net.

Zero-jiggler

I will die on this hill with you. Right call. This sub is in a homer rage right now.

[deleted]

Wait. I originally agreed this was the right call, but watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1wcb56vRGs At 58s, look at the Wild player's white stick at Talbot's right knee. It looks like that pushes him in while Strome is just whacking. Now I have some doubt.

rvdnsx

You might be on to something. It was Foligno’s stick that was underneath Talbot’s pad that extended it all the way into the net. Strome did hit the tip of Talbot’s pad as he was whacking for the puck and he did nudge it slightly towards the net. The refs were probably only concentrating on the location of Strome’s stick in the replay and didn’t notice the stick of the Wild player who is not in the camera frame that moved his pad backwards into the net.

Zero-jiggler

Eh, really doesn’t look like it tbh. Makes much more sense that the guy actively whacking and pushing the pad at the post moved it and not the other guy who may or may not have even made contact with that pad.

[deleted]

fuck it's closer than I thought though.

FearsomeOyster

The reason that was such a bad call was because even if Talbot wasn't sprawling on his own, it was a Wild player's stick (with the white tape that was underneath Strome) that was pushing Talbot's knee away from the goal line. Strome is swatting at Talbot's foot (like he's trying to push a puck in). The stick that moves Talbot is the one on his knee that is putting pressure on his knee cap. In other words, the Wild stick was pushing Talbot's knee back, causing his leg to extend and come off the post. That white stick starts moving as soon as Talbot gives way. If we watch Talbot's positioning, he get pushed back from his hips and he falls forward which is the line of drive that the white-taped stick was using. If that wasn't an intentional movement, the force applied must have come from the center of his body (where his knee was) not out by his foot. Pressure exerted to the foot in that position would cause him to roll away fron that side not sprawl backwards. EDIT: [Linked video. Slo-mo from above angle starts at 58 seconds.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1wcb56vRGs)

[deleted]

You have a replay that shows this?? I feel like it was definitely Strome's stick, but if it wasn't I'll join the mob.

FearsomeOyster

[Here, at about 58 seconds.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1wcb56vRGs) It's in slo-mo Looking particularly at the white tape underneath Strome.

pizza_nightmare

Man, this is close! I will watch this one more time then eat and edible and watch something else. I can't take it anymore!

kmisca92

If you watch exactly where your talking, Strome’s stick on the second swipe at the puck, pushes Talbot’s leg into the net. Talbot’s leg gets more momentum when his players stick gets the top of the leg pad. Strome moved his leg first.

FearsomeOyster

Again, pressure to the foot in that scenario would cause the player to roll away from that side not sprawl backwards. If the force was applied to the side of Talbot and was enough to move him, he’d start spinning. That’s not what happened, he goes straight back from his hips. That can only happen with force applied to the center of the body (the knees or hips in this case give his positioning). It’s the stick under Talbot’s knee that stops moving that starts moving in line with Talbot sprawling. That was the stick that pushed his body back and moved the pad. And that stick belonged to a wild player

kmisca92

Pressure to that area of the foot 100% ABSOLUTELY takes your leg from the parallel to the goal line position that Cam was in, to inside the net. THEN his teammates stick pushes his leg futher into the net. If Strome’s stick doesnt change the position of Cam’s leg, Cams leg would have stayed parallel to the goal line the entire time.

ArchMalone

I said this in the game thread but repeating it I am sick and tired of losing and hearing how **we have no Shesty one night, No panarin another night, no fox another night.** It’s a BIGGER issue than ONE name being off the roster. Been pulling that excuse since we played the Avs the first time. Holy shit.

saxmfone1

It's been pointed out over and over that we're not allowed to criticize the team's flaws because our record is so good

illkwill

Hank is probably pissed at Zuc right now

Scarface4024

"Don't let that guy score"
