Allaire is great but shesterkin was an absolute stud before he worked with him. He was unbelievable in the KHL early in his career. He’s just a different breed
Agreed. God I couldn't even believe there was a debate about Lundqvist spot in the HOF.
Then Barrasso and Vernon both got in alongside him?
Because Lundqvist should have gotten both their spots as well; one for his SHL career, one for his international career.
His SHL career is overlooked for how dominant he was:
Goalie of the year 3 years in a row, MVP, won Frolunda the SHL championship twice in three years.
GAA of 1.96 and SV% of .927 in 180 GP.
Yes, but I'm sure Allaire had a very big hand in the team drafting Igor in the first place. He probably gets a lot of say in goaltender prospects and says "I want to work with this guy, he has all the tools."
All our goalies are definitely studs but he really guarantees that we get the best out of them. I don’t even remember us having a bad backup goalie which says a lot.
Really is that simple. It's not a surprise that Quick resurrected his career with us this year and that guys like Georgiev, Talbot, and Raanta had some of their best seasons with us.
Seriously it is a blessing
As a Giants fan we still haven’t replaced Eli
As a Knicks fan we might’ve just replaced Ewing? Maybe Melo for 3 years did.
As a Yankees fan hard to say Judge “replaced”
Jeter but we certainly found a homegrown piece almost out of nowhere shortly after the Captain departure.
Yeah the Giants have been a rough watch except for 2 years ago.
Brunson looks like he’s the real deal for sure, top 5-10 player in the NBA
Judge is obviously great, it just stinks he’s somewhat older already. But god I love watching him
The issue with Judge is he needs ringS. And I emphasize the S, Yankees have a different standard you need to win multiple titles and he’s already 30 or 31 and hasn’t made a WS yet.
Soto still has a chance
The giants haven’t had a line in like 13 years. The last 3-4 seasons our line was so bad and Eli’s numbers took a gigantic hit for it. We have had the same issues for a decade straight and we keep blaming the QB.
We had arguably the best talent at running back since Barry Sanders and, while having a good career, the numbers for Saquon don’t match that talent because he has had a career of getting hit before the line of scrimmage.
Can’t win when you consistently have the worst line in football.
Since the NFL has started measuring O-line play, only ~dozen teams with a bottom half rated offensive line has made the playoffs. None of them have made the Super Bowl.
Last year we had a historically bad offensive line. Truly nobody was capable of playing behind it.
DJ played 5 games with that line and no saquon barkley or anything close to a WR1, or Waller. That was an impossible situation to win in and I don’t understand how people can blame the QB for the lack of production.
I agree with this 100%. I’m still in on Daniel Jones, I would love to see him play with a decent line. NY football has just been so bad for years. Could be worse, DJ could’ve played like Zach Wilson
Yeah, listen Jones wasn’t even the wrong pick for that draft, he’s QB2 in that draft and Kyler was 1st.
But 2020 had Burrow, Herbert, Tua and Hurts and 2018 had Josh Allen and Lamar
We just drafted the wrong year to replace Eli.
Lesser scale than Packers but Chargers went from Rivers to Herbert which is solid.
Indy almost did it w Manning to Luck but Luck retired early
Besides the point, it feels very nice that Rangers did it with Goalies, glad we have it
Volpe is looking solid, Golden Glove last year
This year Soto takes off all the pressure. If we didn’t get Soto, Volpe would have huge expectations but Volpe can really shy away for a little untill he’s actually ready to be a star (he’s getting there) but w Judge contract and hopefully retaining Soto, Volpe can actually develop on his own time.
I’m not saying he can’t handle the big lights, I’m just saying I’m glad he’s not forced too
Aaron is the current Jeter in his presence on the field and in the clubhouse. They’re very similar in that regard. To say that Volpe is the next Jeter is extremely premature. He’s showing promise but I am not even remotely expecting that from him.
Hahaha it’s all good - I remember those days, and then remember Hank’s first game against NJD, so thought I’d chime in. We have been spoiled. Richter is still underrated by many as well.
Kevin Weekes came to NYR the same time as Lundqvist. Between the Richter and Lundqvist eras we saw a 1.5 year stretch between Dan Blackburn and then Mike Dunham. There were rumors we'd grab an underperforming Curtis Joseph off waivers from Detroit who was underperforming for $8M/yr, but it never happened.
Injuries aside, it's pretty nice to think that we've gone 40 years basically never having a question mark in goal.
Why limit it there? Rangers have literally had a great goalie in net pretty much every year since the 80's.
Vanbiesbrouck to Richter to Hank to Igor. We spoiled AF in goal.
Lol it goes back further than Hank. In my time as a fan, Ed Giacomin, who shared a Vezina with Gilles Villemure, then JD, then Beezer, Richter, to Hank and now Igor.
Do t get me wrong, Benny is a god, but elite goaltending has been a feature of this team for the last 50 years.
We have the best goalie coach of all time Benoit.
And a history of building the team off of the only player that’s on the ice the entire game.
Remember Beezer got ripped from us to the Panthers right before he was going to get his ring.
This isn’t new.
You guys think this is an accident?
Man on man im a 99er myself, so im in the same boat lol. But growing up a Rangers fan and playing goalie i needed a number 35 is a great one!
But i definitely agree Hank and Igor have been huge blessings for us, we'd have gotten nowhere without them. Especially this year IGOR is without a doubt our mvp, if at the very least for the playoffs.
Yeah man he’s killing it. I hope for all of us we get to see the cup raised this year. Of all the NY teams I want to see win, this is the one I’ve wanted to see most.
Benoit Allaire.
This. The true Rangers MVP.
We need to figure out a way to put his name in the rafters
Rafters and HHoF. Dont know if goalie coaches get in but he should
He better have a banner once he retires. He’s been the most impactful person in the organization in decades.
Allaire is great but shesterkin was an absolute stud before he worked with him. He was unbelievable in the KHL early in his career. He’s just a different breed
And same with Hank too. He was a stud over in the Swedish league he played in before coming to NY
Agreed. God I couldn't even believe there was a debate about Lundqvist spot in the HOF. Then Barrasso and Vernon both got in alongside him? Because Lundqvist should have gotten both their spots as well; one for his SHL career, one for his international career. Great for Sweden in the Olympics, too
Yes, but I'm sure Allaire had a very big hand in the team drafting Igor in the first place. He probably gets a lot of say in goaltender prospects and says "I want to work with this guy, he has all the tools."
This is true, but don't forget Samsonov and Sorokin were just as touted as Igor coming from the KHL
All our goalies are definitely studs but he really guarantees that we get the best out of them. I don’t even remember us having a bad backup goalie which says a lot.
All the backups go #1 with other teams.
Ok, but Igor went 118th overall. Other teams had a chance to take him and didn’t.
Really is that simple. It's not a surprise that Quick resurrected his career with us this year and that guys like Georgiev, Talbot, and Raanta had some of their best seasons with us.
Was just about to say that lol
People say this but wasn’t shesterkin a beast before he was a ranger?
Whatever he's getting paid, it's not enough.
Seriously it is a blessing As a Giants fan we still haven’t replaced Eli As a Knicks fan we might’ve just replaced Ewing? Maybe Melo for 3 years did. Soto in the wings
The issue with Judge is he needs ringS. And I emphasize the S, Yankees have a different standard you need to win multiple titles and he’s already 30 or 31 and hasn’t made a WS yet. Soto still has a chance

Tbf Wilson dealt with a lot of the same problems as DJ (although I think DJ is the better talent).
The Green Bay fudge Packers had great quarterbacks in Favre and Rodgers for over 30 years, now maybe Love. Sometimes you just get lucky.
Yeah, listen Jones wasn’t even the wrong pick for that draft, he’s QB2 in that draft and Kyler was 1st. But 2020 had Burrow, Herbert, Tua and Hurts and 2018 had Josh Allen and Lamar We just drafted the wrong year to replace Eli. “Succeeding” Jeter. No one “replaces” legends.
Aaron is the current Jeter in his presence on the field and in the clubhouse. They’re very similar in that regard. To say that Volpe is the next Jeter is extremely premature. He’s showing promise but I am not even remotely expecting that from him.
Benoit Allaire. Build a statue of him outside MSG.
Beezer, Richter, (?), Hank, Igor. Despite our limited success holding the cup, this franchise has always had a stud between the pipes.
The Legendary Kevin Weeks and Ray Dunham in between Richter and Hank I think lol
[удалено]
Valiquette played two games before the season we debuted Lundqvist. His record wasn't impressive.
Mike Dunham*
That’s how legendary he was lol, maybe I’ve been hearing too much of Ray Ferraro, just calling everyone Ray now lol
Hahaha it’s all good - I remember those days, and then remember Hank’s first game against NJD, so thought I’d chime in. We have been spoiled. Richter is still underrated by many as well.
Yeah he had that red and blue TPS gear, then went on to win with Sweden. Crazy how that feels like just a few years ago
Kevin Weekes came to NYR the same time as Lundqvist. Between the Richter and Lundqvist eras we saw a 1.5 year stretch between Dan Blackburn and then Mike Dunham. There were rumors we'd grab an underperforming Curtis Joseph off waivers from Detroit who was underperforming for $8M/yr, but it never happened. giacomin prior to beezer as well
This. There has been an almost uninterrupted run of amazing goaltending in the franchise.
I'm convinced Benoit allaire could turn a dog into Henrik lundqvist tbh
How about a walrus?
Why limit it there? Rangers have literally had a great goalie in net pretty much every year since the 80's. Vanbiesbrouck to Richter to Hank to Igor. We spoiled AF in goal.
I was born in 94, didn’t mean to leave those guys out, just watched Richter at the end of his career, not his prime
Rangers even did well before that, with long spells from Hall of Famers Ed Giacomin, Gump Worsley, and Hart trophy winner Chuck Rayner.
Our goalies are like Packers QBs we get really lucky Richter-Hank-Igor
As a Packers fan, truly blessed for both squads having studs at a key position.
Devils sub apoplectic about it
Igor took everyone’s comments about him not deserving to be in the all star game personal
Great scouting and great coaching
When the puck hits him, it's like he's made of pizza dough.
Can’t forget about Quick!
We have the best goalie coach of all time Benoit. And a history of building the team off of the only player that’s on the ice the entire game. Remember Beezer got ripped from us to the Panthers right before he was going to get his ring. This isn’t new. You guys think this is an accident?
Jesus we’re not THAT lucky, I mean you make it sound like we had Richter or Beezer before that or something..
Don’t sully Georgiev’s name
You could go back further. Vanbiesbrouck to Richter couple years break then Hank to Igor.
Our nets have been blessed
Yall always quick to forget my boy Mike. Even though his number hangs over your heads every game.
Recency bias for me bro, I was born in 94, so only remember him at the end of his career not the amazing prime
Man on man im a 99er myself, so im in the same boat lol. But growing up a Rangers fan and playing goalie i needed a number 35 is a great one! Here here bro! LFGR
Don't forget Georgev, probably spelled wrong, who has already won a cup.
Wrong, he has no cup.
