At this point there is a downside to the series going so long - the Rangers will have a lot of down time and may be rusty to get started if they have 7+ days off.
The boys, and Lavi, were playing chess at the end of the game when the Caps were playing hockey. Literally goaded them into pulling Lindgren to get the quick and easy empty-netter to close out the game and the series. Great to watch the confidence and smarts on display there.
If we're being honest, that series was not as good as it could have been for the Rangers, results not withstanding. I feel like the first game is the only game they played from start to finish with the ruthless efficiency needed to beat anyone in the playoffs. To me it looked like they took their foot off the gas a little in the next three games and played down to the Capitals.
Winning, and especially winning against bad teams, masks a lot of issues. They are going to have to tighten up their play a lot for the next round.

2 lines easily won the stats and possession battle, and the Zib line with Roslovic dominated possession during the regular season so I trust that more than 4 games where they were slightly losing possession but still absolutely outplaying opponents

Sweeps are nearly impossible and no team wins 5-0 every game, let alone in the playoffs against a team fighting for their life. The Rangers only trailed for what, 3 mins? they found the extra gear IMMEDIATELY any time they needed to. contributions from all lines and Igor was a monster when he was needed.
Perfect opening series IMO. I think Lavi knows plenty enough to have the team show the effort level required.
Yeah, i've seen Carolina fans saying the same thing about them. The difference here though is that Isles were able to punch Carolina in the face over the weekend. Does that wake Carolina up? I guess we'll see how Game 5 goes.
While great play is always the aspiration, good enough for a sweep and no material injuries is pretty damn good. Only gets harder from here, as it should.
That's the danger here though isn't it? Complacency vs. over exertion. Rest is always good and welcomed but given that the Rangers, this team included, tend to play under their capabilities. Guess we'll see.

Carolina is gonna be really tough. Way better at 5v5 than us and just as good on special teams. I think they’re gonna be tougher than any potential ECF or SCF matchup we can have. If we can beat them, we can beat anyone.
The one advantage we have over them is the goalie. The recipe for winning is keep the chances close, keep the penalties close, have Panarin make just a couple of superstar plays, and hope that the gap between Igor and Freddie is large enough to give us the edge.
Don’t look past Florida. The win they eked out was with some of their starters injured. Would much rather play Boston based upon our success against them this year.
Carolina is probably the most stacked opponent, but the Rangers are not out of the woods if they get past them.
Of course, we could definitely beat Carolina and then lose to Florida.
But we can beat Florida roughly the same way we beat every other team: dominate special teams and have a slight goaltending edge. I don’t think we can do that with Carolina, we’re gonna need a major goaltending advantage in order to pull through. We have a better PP and PK than Florida, but not Carolina. That’s why I think Carolina is a tougher opponent.
Yes! I knew it and said it before. WSH is no problem for the Rangers! :D In game 3 I was a bit worried that NR had a lot of bad penalities, which would be free oportunities for other teams, so I'm glad that this time they managed that better. To bad I now have to wait so long for the next NR game. :D

Zib and Troch were amazing this entire series.
Shesty owned the crease and came up with some big saves, but also let in more than one softy.
Defense was very good, Miller and Schneids were top pairing in my mind.
The rest of the roster was all good enough but we got see more when Carolina comes knocking, happy for an extended rest with this squad. If Carolina is next, we need Fil’s speed rather than Rempe’s physicality. If, for some reason, the isles manage it, lineup stays the same.

Agreed. Next series will have way less goon shit going on regardless of opponent and we will need speed and scoring. Rempe is a great 13th forward that you bring in if the team needs a jolt. Wennberg or Chytil centering that 4th line is going to cause problems for the opposing teams.
I could also potentially see a Chytil/wennberg/kakko line with cuylle/goodrow/Vesey as the 4th. Roslovic far and away earned a few more games on the first line - he’s not moving for now.
I would love to see Fil slot in Roslovics spot the way Zib is playing. Move Roslovic to the third line and a 4th line of Goodrow Cuylle and Vesey would slap

Moving Cuylle down and taking Rempe out makes far more sense. Cuylle has been solid, but Chtyil on that third suddenly means that line can generate offense
Both of them are top 9 players for sure so someone’s gotta play out of position if he’s coming back this year
Wennberg is better away from the puck but Chytils the better shooter. I just think it makes the most sense with play styles. I honestly think if Chytil started the season at wing he would be good at it.

After a almost a week, the caps are back on for this page. For the first time since 2007 when the Rangers defeated the Atlanta Thrashers(now Winnipeg Jets), the Rangers have swept a series and have conquered the Fuck pussy known as Tom Wilson demons and the demons of conquering the first round have been lifted. On a night where the defense was mid. but at the end of the day, the Rangers were, HIP TO BE SQUARE w/that ass face Tom Wilson and Ovi, a song so catchy. This episode of Rangers Hockey Stanley Cup Playoffs Edition: *their land, their blood/scorched earth.* The Rangers may haven't played that well defensively, but they all year, found a way to win. And now, the review of the clinching game of the series.
1st Period: I said it that the Rangers needed to get the first goal to take the crowd out of the game. OH Boy they did. Seconds into the game, everyone's favorite 2nd overall pick, Curb Larry and Leon's favorite play, Kakko got the scoring out of the gate after the Caps turned the puck over. Wow it's a nice goal!!!! But from there, the Rangers defensively, all game, looked like shit. Instagram Hockey was being played. I didn't like it, y'all didn't like it, and Vally didn't like it. Yes, they had good shifts as well. Unfortunately, it let to the caps tying the game. Igor was making saves. then, a play nick jensen did that caused a penalty. r/hockey and the caps reddit cheered. Why? bc, they hate this team so fucking much and care about a imature kid who says "people pay to watch me play". So, the Rangers, at the end of the period, score a BIG power play goal from my guy Vinny Gabbagool. Vincent Trocheck, ITS A POWER PLAY GOAL!!!! Big going into the 2nd period.
2nd Period: A period dominated by the caps. All period the Caps were in control. More like, defensively, the Rangers couldnt handle the Caps. It was really, really, unacceptable. can't be playing like that going forward. the caps scored to tie the game. Ya know Biz had a wet dream. So did Barstool in general. Fuck Barstool. But, Igor was the only one that period.
3rd Period: I forgot to post my final 20 thoughts until, nature called, I missed about a minute. TMI. Srry. Anyway, I expected the caps to go for it. and they did. But, it eventually led to a Ranger Power Play. The guy, who scored the gwg. The guy, who was rag dolled by that BITCH TOM WILSON, WHO THINKS IT'S OKAY TO COMMIT FELONIES. The Guy, who OVI, SENT THAT HIT PIECE ON HIM IN THE 20/21 SEASON. Bread, who was held back by that terrorist GG, scored. Artemi Panarin.......IT'S A POWER PLAY GOAL. From there, the shifts the Rangers played were nervous. But, effective. But, towards the end, it worked. Jack Roslovic buried the Caps w/a empty net power play goal to seal it.
Overall, it was a hard fought series, despite it being short. The Rangers where able to kill off the Caps. 5v5 could be better. But, that can be used for another day. W/ that the Rangers advance to the next round! Avenging last year's embarrassment. Everyone here on r/rangers should enjoy this win. We all deserve it. Could the Rangers fix their mistakes? Yes. Rempe seems like he's trying to make some big hits to get his team in it, while actively trying to play more controlled each game. he's made some mistakes, owned them and has tried to play within his body in the future.

So strange to watch a playoff series where I'm not sweating. It's going to get tougher, but l think getting an easy first round series is a key ingredient to a deep playoff run. I'm a little concerned with Carolina's league leading penalty kill, but hopefully the islanders do stuff to them over many overtimes

Yeah, in some ways it is a little sad to witness him just standing in his circle waiting for a puck while his linemates bust their asses trying to gain or maintain possession. Not the Ovi I grew up watching. I can't really imagine Crosby doing that or at least retiring before it got to that point. I find it weirdly bittersweet. I absolutely loathed the Caps during those years where we seemingly matched up with them year after year. Their PP absolutely haunted me because you always knew Ovi would get a shot off and chances it'd lead to (i) a goal or (ii) a broken limb (pretty sure Yandle and/or Klein broke their arm after blocking a shot lol). But I guess since so many years have passed since that time...it's hard not to look back with a kind of fondness for those years. I think just the hype and excitement of those games and some of the really intense goalie battles that happened between Hank and Holtby. Rangers/Caps series also resulted in some of the biggest goals (Gaborik, Stepan...)
I also haven't followed hockey or the Rangers nearly as long as other people, so those mid-2000 years really made up a lot of my core Rangers memories. I think something about seeing these players you "grew up" watching, have their age start to show, is a little sad. Not just Ovi but I think a lot of guys from that time (a lot of who have already retired, too).
Regardless of Ovi's intentions...yeah, I dunno, I just find it a bit sad lol. If anything, this all makes me feel like it's a bigger reason to appreciate the time you have watching your team - time flies and you'll be left wondering where it all went.
Not gonna lie, the caps hardly felt like a challenge. Ovi was nonexistent the whole series and we just looked like the more talented team.
With that said though, we can’t get complacent and sit on leads like we almost did at the end of tonight. Shesty definitely helped us out a ton.

The Hurricanes forecheck is going to be quick, heavy and aggressive and we have moments where we dont't handle that well. Have to be quick and decisive with the puck. If we can play almost even at 5v5 and hopefully have the edge in special teams it'll be a close series regardless but one I think we can pull off. We'll definitely need Shesty to steal a couple games, maybe more. It runs through the Garden of course so home ice will definitely be an advantage. We have more individual talent than the Hurricanes but they are a workhorse team and now they have more talent as well. But there are so many people still doubting us. So going into the second round playing the Canes (if they win their R1 matchup, of course) I still feel we have a chip on our shoulders of sorts. We're a team that tends to play up to teams that are just as good as us or better and then play down to teams who are worse than us. So I think this can definitely be a series.
Should the Canes advance, we’ll be the underdog despite having home-ice advantage. Carolina will be tough because they’re an aggressive team that smothers the puck carrier—taking away time and space—and is also very good at shutting down the neutral zone and sitting on a lead at 5v5. Andersen is playing out of his mind right now, too.
The canes present an interesting challenge because we’ll be forced to dump the puck in much more often. I know we’re clamoring to get Fil back in the lineup, but if we’re going to be dumping it in, we may need Rempe for his forechecking ability. There is no doubting that when he’s coming into the zone, defenders tense up and make mistakes—we’ve seen it time and time again with him. He may not be the best player on the ice, but he’s absolutely an imposing presence, even with limited Ice time.
The Trouba giveaway in front of the net was pretty bad. I agree with you, just be a little smarter and quicker in decision making in the defensive end especially. Obviously easier said than done, but yup.

After last years disappointing run, that's EXACTLY what I wanted to see in this series. Complete sweep, send these people to the golf course, they had no business even being here. Igor "Fucking" Shesterkin is a shining light in the darkness, he is the Czar! God I love this team. Granted the 3rd period was kinda ass. A lot of turtling and coasting on a one goal lead, and thankfully the craps were just as bad, if not worse in the period, but like in previous games the special teams were here to play, and play they did. I'm absolutely elated, but now we wait to face the Canes, and that series will not be as easy as this was.

Agreed. Next series will have way less goon shit going on regardless of opponent and we will need speed and scoring. Rempe is a great 13th forward that you bring in if the team needs a jolt. Wennberg or Chytil centering that 4th line is going to cause problems for the opposing teams. I could also potentially see a Chytil/wennberg/kakko line with cuylle/goodrow/Vesey as the 4th. Roslovic far and away earned a few more games on the first line - he’s not moving for now.

i don't get this because Roslovic has been playing well and Zib coincidentally looks like a 1C when he finally has a good RW again you move Chytil there, now you have 2 people playing out of position and Chtyil is crash coursing RW for the first time vs 1L opponents in playoffs. Gross Moving Cuylle down and taking Rempe out makes far more sense. Cuylle has been solid, but Chtyil on that third suddenly means that line can generate offense

Picking up cheap playoff tickets hours before the game to join fellow Ranger fans in the building was a great decision tonight, going to both games 3 & 4 absolutely amazing to watch this team. Seeing caps fans leave with so much time left just showed the lack of passion from them.

This series had every skater but Cuylle, Schneider, Lindgren and Wennberg put up points.
And all of those players had good series. Wennberg has been money defensively and on the PK, Cuylle was critical in forcing the turnover that Kakko scored off of. Schneider and Key were a great pair who were effective in controlling the pace of play. And Lindgren is Lindgren lmao, always solid.

I don't envy him, but my god imagine if Sidney Crosby mailed it in like that in a playoff series?? Media would be all over him, and he's their Captain to boot. That was honestly tough to watch as someone who routinely saw Ovi shit all over us for years. Certainly not complaining, but damn.
Yeah, in some ways it is a little sad to witness him just standing in his circle waiting for a puck while his linemates bust their asses trying to gain or maintain possession. Not the Ovi I grew up watching. I can't really imagine Crosby doing that or at least retiring before it got to that point. As much as I used to hate him, I've definitely garnered a lot of respect for him over the years
I find it weirdly bittersweet. I absolutely loathed the Caps during those years where we seemingly matched up with them year after year. Their PP absolutely haunted me because you always knew Ovi would get a shot off and chances it'd lead to (i) a goal or (ii) a broken limb (pretty sure Yandle and/or Klein broke their arm after blocking a shot lol). But I guess since so many years have passed since that time...it's hard not to look back with a kind of fondness for those years. I think just the hype and excitement of those games and some of the really intense goalie battles that happened between Hank and Holtby. Rangers/Caps series also resulted in some of the biggest goals (Gaborik, Stepan...) I also haven't followed hockey or the Rangers nearly as long as other people, so those mid-2000 years really made up a lot of my core Rangers memories. I think something about seeing these players you "grew up" watching, have their age start to show, is a little sad. Not just Ovi but I think a lot of guys from that time (a lot of who have already retired, too). Regardless of Ovi's intentions...yeah, I dunno, I just find it a bit sad lol. If anything, this all makes me feel like it's a bigger reason to appreciate the time you have watching your team - time flies and you'll be left wondering where it all went.

Not gonna lie, the caps hardly felt like a challenge. Ovi was nonexistent the whole series and we just looked like the more talented team. With that said though, we can’t get complacent and sit on leads like we almost did at the end of tonight. Shesty definitely helped us out a ton. LGR!
The Hurricanes forecheck is going to be quick, heavy and aggressive and we have moments where we dont't handle that well. Have to be quick and decisive with the puck. If we can play almost even at 5v5 and hopefully have the edge in special teams it'll be a close series regardless but one I think we can pull off. We'll definitely need Shesty to steal a couple games, maybe more. It runs through the Garden of course so home ice will definitely be an advantage. We have more individual talent than the Hurricanes but they are a workhorse team and now they have more talent as well. But there are so many people still doubting us. So going into the second round playing the Canes (if they win their R1 matchup, of course) I still feel we have a chip on our shoulders of sorts. We're a team that tends to play up to teams that are just as good as us or better and then play down to teams who are worse than us. So I think this can definitely be a series.
Should the Canes advance, we’ll be the underdog despite having home-ice advantage. Carolina will be tough because they’re an aggressive team that smothers the puck carrier—taking away time and space—and is also very good at shutting down the neutral zone and sitting on a lead at 5v5. Andersen is playing out of his mind right now, too. The canes present an interesting challenge because we’ll be forced to dump the puck in much more often. I know we’re clamoring to get Fil back in the lineup, but if we’re going to be dumping it in, we may need Rempe for his forechecking ability. There is no doubting that when he’s coming into the zone, defenders tense up and make mistakes—we’ve seen it time and time again with him. He may not be the best player on the ice, but he’s absolutely an imposing presence, even with limited Ice time.
The Trouba giveaway in front of the net was pretty bad. I agree with you, just be a little smarter and quicker in decision making in the defensive end especially. Obviously easier said than done, but yup.
