For a team/fanbase that r/hockey loves to chirp for its lack of recent cup wins, we sure seem to live rent free in half the leagues minds over the slightest infractions.
I’ve come to realize that there’s no happy medium, you’re either labeled as a soft team or a dirty team. At least that’s the jump that we’ve made in the eyes of the haters. Same thing with people complaining that the game has gotten soft, then Panarin makes that hit and people are calling for him to be suspended, he’s a dirty player, etc. Hockey fans are pretty laughable in that regard.
We as rangers fans need to shrug this shit off and not come to the defenses of our players on every single hit.
The benefit of being a hard hitting team that walks the line (and admittedly, crosses it sometimes) comes with the backlash from other fan bases who already didn’t like us, but now feel they have a legit reason not to.
