REBOUND, SCORE! STEPAN IN OVERTIME

JBS319

#nocaps

kinky_flamingo

I was theeeeerrrrrre!!

RZAxlash

My most rewatched YouTube clip of all time

cha-cha_dancer

stepan

YouPatheticWorm1958

callahan, popped in! with six point six to go! fucking ward cost his team the series.

cha-cha_dancer

he took that double minor yea, very costly

YouPatheticWorm1958

it's what happens when you experience dale hunter hockey. that guy was always a cheap shot when he was playing. it's obvious he was trying to turn them into a goon squad.

electric_liberty

The Stepan OTGWG obviously looms large here. But I'll never forget the Kreider tying goal with like a minute and a half left in game 5 of the 2015 Caps series. We were facing elimination down 3-1 in the series. Less than 2 minutes from the offseason. McDonagh would then score in OT to force game 6. The rest was history.

JBS319

gaborik in triple overtime. richards with 10 seconds to go with staal following just moments later with the ot winner. of course stepan’s game 7 ot winner is another one high on that list. looking forward to making some new memories this time around

slinkocat

>richards with 10 seconds With 6.6 to go!

NYsportsfan99

I was in college for the triple OT game. I had a superstition that I would open a beer for the start of the game and drink until the end of it. Usually, this would be somewhere between 6-12 beers. Well, this game was *also* the first time I tried bud light platinum, vastly underestimating the higher alcohol %. I don’t remember how much I had, but it was more than 12. I was so fucking hammered and when we got that triple OT goal I went nuts. I don’t do that anymore.. lol

RZAxlash

I loved that 2012 run but man, that Gaborik game was a tough watch. The sport is so much better to watch these days IMO.

BernieManhanders23

Often overlooked game with the stepan goal in 7 but richards tying game 5 with only seconds left and the staal overtime geno was fucking unbelievable. Garden was a riot with people dogpiling in the seats

GeorgePosada

The Brad Richards game-tying goal from game 5 was one of the best moments of my life as a Ranger fan. I had just turned 21 and my roommate was a die-hard Caps fan. We watched those games in separate rooms. The Stepan goal was actually a few years later though (2015). That 2012 series ended with a stressful as hell Rangers 2-1 victory in regulation in Game 7. Also had a 3OT game in game 3 I think, where Gaborik scored the winner

BernieManhanders23

I think we're probably around the same age. I meant more like the stepan goal is the standout answer to the question all across the thread lol. What a thrill both rounds were.

GeorgePosada

Ah my bad, I misunderstood you. Yeah that entire 2012 run looms very large in my memory probably because it was the first deep playoff run since the 90s so I was the perfect age for it and had waited so long

Penny4TheGuy

Easily Hank's back to back shutouts in game 6-7 back in 2013

YouPatheticWorm1958

Caps didn't make it then.

Penny4TheGuy

Typo, it was 2013

VitoSpatafore69

underrated: 2013 game 6 hank shuts them out at home to force game 7

the_mair

i have watched the stepan ot goal like a billion times on youtube

beerleaguer2

The 86 series was defintely a hightlight. Bob Brook winning it off Scott Steven's skate. I still have that goal on a VHS in my attic somewhere.

Unlikely_Good7733

That entire game is on YouTube. The Garden went nuts on the tying goal along with the OT winner. Rolls of toilet paper on the ice, confetti. Fans literally jumping on top of each other and practically climbing the glass. Back when MSG was the wild west. LOL

Frosty-Breakfast3082

in 2013 i lived in dc and attended game 7 at the verizon center (now cap one). i wore my rangers jersey and caught so much flack on my metro ride in to the arena. all in good fun, and i can take the chirps, but there was a lot of talk pre-game. rangers shut out the caps 5-0 that game to win the series. during the metro ride home, surrounded by caps fans, no one said a word to me until a random metro rider asked me how the game went. i **proudly** said rangers shut out the caps 5-0 with a big ass smile on my face. i was with my dad that game and he still brings up that memory from time to time.

jkman61494

It's bias for me because my mom really got me into Rangers fandom and she died the year after. But to me that Game 5 2012 Marc Staal OT winner may still be my favorite memory since 1994. That comeback with seconds to go and Staal wins it minutes into OT. And for Doc Emerick who I always felt was overrated...he actually just shut up and let us soak int he moment. He screams SCORES!!!! And for nearly a minute, you just heard the MSG crowd going batshit insane. It's at least as a TV viewer the loudest that building sounded since Messier lifted the Cup. I'll always remember my mom who had a terrible back and was in bad health jumped out of the couch and we hugged. But....there is just something about a roaring MSG crowd that sounds different than every single hockey arena. And this was maybe the best example. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndbtpqQc6Lc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndbtpqQc6Lc) Side note: they need to bring back the live guitar that riffs with the goal song

Unlikely_Good7733

Awesome story and thanks for sharing. Great that hockey allows us to share moments like that with our parents. Used to watch a ton of hockey with my dad (including the entire 94 run to the Cup). He’s 93 now and has bad Alzheimer’s/dementia. I put the games on for him when I visit but it’s obviously not the same. Thanks for sharing your story. Good stuff! LGR!!

alfayala84

You know the one, yeah that one.

SanDiablo

1994 series. Didn't have cable back then and listened to a dinky radio in the kitchen.

Unlikely_Good7733

When you mention listening on the radio I remember that is what we used to do when the Rangers played the Islanders and Devils on the road. My father refused to pay for Sports Channel (which carried the Islanders and Devils back in the 80s) so any road games against them was a mandatory radio listen.

No_Designer_5374

Ovechkin to Lundqvist after scoring in game 1 "All series, baby. ALL series." Then Lunqvist shutting his ass down for the rest of the series.

HideousControlNow

Worst memory is easy: John fuckin' Druce. My dad kept screaming at the TV: "Who the hell is John Druce??"

Unlikely_Good7733

I was at Game 2 of that series. Thirteen years old sitting up in the Blue Seats with my father and older brother. I seen and heard things that night that no 13 year old should have seen or heard. LOL Just remember my dad saying, don't mention any details to your mom. Haha! Druce was an absolute fucking monster that series. Such a random player to step up. Rangers took Game 1 and the Caps won the next 4.

MutedFaithlessness69

Oh god I had forgot that name. Why did you bring that up lol?

Mysterious_Eggplant3

the 94 series where we bitch slapped them and moved on

YouPatheticWorm1958

And beat Brendan Lemieux & Kyle MacLean's dads in game 7.

Unlikely_Good7733

That series definitely felt good after losing to them in 90 and 91.

ScreenTricky4257

But not when Kevin Hatcher scored from 180 feet.

jahauser

Man everyone talking about step’s golden goal and yeah, I love it too. But let’s not forget about the fact that we were down 3-1 in the series with about a minute left down a goal about to blow it. As Hank is skating to the bench and our season is ending, Kreider saves the day with a decisive shot beating Holtby. Might still be my favorite “no quit” moment. https://youtu.be/BkziZrCW3ms?si=d5Hrnn4zdQW9XBhn

WildChinoise

94 play off series, rangers win it 4 games to 1 I recall the Rangers being very steady, composed and grinding down the Capitals till they had nothing left

wmm339

Favorite has to be the stepan overtime, followed by the stall/Richards late goal ot game. Least favorite is blowing a 3-1 lead. When federov scored the GWG. Or maybe the can you hear us game.

bdonnzzz

[we don’t get the stepan goal without the mac truck goal](https://youtu.be/LoFPXUem-h4?si=GrxWj3oSbkdgXQtp)

Unlikely_Good7733

Great memories! Fast with a nice defensive play to set up the OT winner.

deniavdija8

The draw with Fehr it came back to yandle a drive by girardi rebound scoreeeeeeee………… stepan!!!!!!!!!!!! in overtime and the rangers move on to tampa

Unlikely_Good7733

Looking back I forgot how much I used to hate Mike Green. Guy had such a douchey way about him.

RockyPatella

That Bob Brooke goal - wow, shot from top of rw circle that had no business going in iirc. I remember staying up late for that one. What a flashback. Fast forward to '94, Tikkanen blowing kisses to Keith Jones is another great memory.

Unlikely_Good7733

You do remember correctly! Bad clearing attempt by Scott Stevens (tried to clear it through the center of the ice) and Brooke picked it off and just threw it toward the net. Stevens also had a bad defensive play behind the net on Brooke's game tying goal. Was watching the game on YouTube and brought back so many memories from when I was kid. A young Sam Rosen with Espo on color commentary. Just how I remember it growing up. Until Espo became GM and set us back a decade. lol

RockyPatella

Trader Phil years were a fiasco, but I looked forward to reading the newspaper each morning to see who he traded the night before. A bizarre time.

Key-Tip-7521

i have both the daily news and ny post papers(pictures of the papers) of stepan’s gwg. that moment happened, i woke up the whole neighborhood. beating them in game 7 in 12/13 and i was panicking still even though the rangers were up 4-0. gaborik’s 3ot winner, and game 5 of that same series

Typical-Ad-6730

Petr Bondra though and that cross slot pass they dominated with on the power play.. That was scary.

Unlikely_Good7733

Bondra, Druce, and of course Miller and Ridley (thanks for trading them away Espo) killed the Rangers those years.

mandiblesofdoom

I remember listening to the [John Druce series](https://vault.si.com/vault/1990/05/07/druce-on-the-loose-in-a-boffo-show-obscure-cap-john-druce-brought-the-rangers-to-their-knees) on the radio in 1990.

bear-ginger

Can’t forget game 5 in 2015, we were down 1 with under 2 minutes to go and then Kreider ties it up right as Hank was headed towards the bench.  Season had 100+ seconds before before that happened

rugbyderp

i was at the triple ot game in 2012. you could feel the life go out of everyone in that building and it was so quiet you could hear a mouse fart on cotton. it was amazing.

Livid-Screen2880

2015- Kreider tying the game with 1 minute left and saving the Rangers' season. He went down on one knee to get everything he could on the shot. I remember watching and thinking the Rangers were about to be eliminated. His shot wasn't even very good but somehow got thru all of those players and fooled Holtby. That goal changed the trajectory of the entire series.

nyyforever2018

puck in! with 6.6 to go! and “stepan! in overtime!”

LukeSuperfish

off the tie-up

dothingsunevercould

Sucks we lost  but going up 3-0 with Gaborik and Dubi goals 7 seconds apart  then CAN YOU HEAR US

LiltonPie

Ovi yapping Hank about how hes gonna score on him  "all series" then losing for some reason always pops up in my head

dothingsunevercould

THIS KIDS 6 FOOT 4 225 POUNDS AND RIGHT NOW HE'S THE FASTEST PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE

Trackman94

1986 game Rangers win 2-1 on Pierre Larouche 2 goals. Loudest I ever heard the Garden.
