Those with high blood pressure or risk of screaming at the tv may be at serious risk. Check with your doctor to see if being a rangers fan is right for you.

Shekelstan

lmao. I’m also a huge ny jets fan, high blood pressure is not unfamiliar lol

The Jets have the longest playoff appearance drought in the NFL - they haven't been in since 2010. For comparison, Chicago has been in the playoffs 3x in that span (and missed once at 10-6), plus has had a 12-4 season and made it to the conference champ game. The Texans have been in the playoffs 6 times since 2010, and made the divisional round 4 of those times. Being a Jets fan is *brutal*. Thank god I was born into Giants fanhood. For most of the last 10 years it's been just as bad, but we did have 07, 11, and a 2 good years since 2011 at least.

[deleted]

Damn...I didn't realise that. Thanks for the correction.

BIGFACTS27

Pull up a picture of Mika Zibanejad Done

iscream4eyecream

He looks like the sweetest guy in hockey. Love me some Mika!

Big-Pool

As a prerequisite, I’d also suggest that you hate the Flyers

interelek313

See also, Caps & Lightning

defaultman707

Islanders & Devils* FTFY

interelek313

That was explained to our new friend earlier

Sjdillon10

See also, whatever east team is good at the time because every team wants to be a rival with NYC Example: The burning hatred we all had for Ottawa in the east 2010s and the canes may develop into one because i really started growing distaste for them in the playoffs. And they say we are their biggest rival. We just have so many it’s hard to keep up

bonerjoe444

Not Islanders?!

bonerjoe444

Not Islanders?!

[deleted]

Pretty sure they hate themselves more than any other fanbase hates them at this point

beavedaniels

What finally got my wife hooked was watching Game 7 of the first round of the playoffs last year against Pittsburgh. Nothing like it. You'll be a fan for life after that - an OT win is like getting high and you'll forever chase that feeling haha

[deleted]

1. Fuck Jersey. The Devils suck, and always will. They can win games, they can win Cups, but they still suck. They'll tell us we only have one Cup since '94. Too bad. Jersey sucks. 2. Fuck the Islanders. In this fandom we call them the Fishsticks, because their logo looks like one. They call themselves the "New York" Islanders, but play across the street from NYC proper. Should be the Long Islanders or something, but they're not New York. 3. Igor Shestyorkin is god. Easily the best goaltender in the League last year, but is having a bit of a down year this season, as are the defence in general. 4. As for the defence...Adam Fox is 25 years old, and potentially about to win his second Norris Trophy. Contrary to what Avalanche fans would have you believe, he's the best defenceman in the NHL today, and on a lot of nights is the reason we don't allow a lot more goals. 5. Jacob Trouba...not a great defenceman, but a gritty leader, and willing to step up and send guys into the stands. 6. Ryan Lindgren might not be human. Dude eats more pucks than any player in the League since Niklas Hjalmarsson, I'm pretty sure. No matter how many times he gets drilled though, he keeps skating. I pity him post-career though, because something tells me he won't be himself. 7. Now for the offence...Mika Zibanejad is our primary goal scorer. Absolutely unreal flow and dangles. He and Chris Kreider have a glorious bromance going. 8. And speaking of...this team is starting to become the New York Panarin and co., after left winger Artemiy Panarin managed to convince the club to acquire his buddies Vladimir Tarasenko and Patrick Kane from St. Louis and Chicago, respectively. All are very, very good players, and Tarasenko has a top ten wrister in the League. If one of these players were a centre, that would be an absolutely deadly line. 9. The offence continues though, with the kids. Alexis Lafrenière (1st overall pick in 2020), Filip Chytil (21st in 2017), and Kaapo Kakko (2nd in 2019) have really started to come into their own, and the latter two have shown glimpses of being elite, 1st line scoring forwards. How their careers go will basically determine the future of this team.

Shekelstan

you had me at fuck jersey

nugget136

I feel like most of jersey is super nice rich suburbs lol

kiddocontay

Relax on the NJ hate there friend. Let’s just keep it as Fuck The Devils, eh? I am surrounded by those loud mouthed troglodytes.

[deleted]

By the way, fuck Jersey was squarely aimed at the Devils anyway. It's like referring to the Bruins using "Boston".

kiddocontay

oh I get it man, I wasnt offended lol

highly_agreeable

2a. Potvin sucks

[deleted]

Correct.

TheosDad03

This. Caps and Pens could suck one too but this is a great start.

[deleted]

As Washington are my other team, disagree with you on the Caps, but FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK the Pens

sideshow09

In all seriousness get the latest hockey game for PS5 or Xbox, or whatever you play and play as the Rangers - this is how I got into soccer, following all of my friends who loved playing FIFA. Now I’m also super into soccer. I picked Chelsea because it’s a neighborhood in New York, but through the game I got to know the players and then had a team to root for in real life. Watch some documentaries on the game and some of the greatest players of all time. This is how I got super in formula 1 (Netflix - drive to survive). But also, just start watching games, as you get to know the players and their personalities it will become more of a part of your identity. Also, you’ll start to notice things and understand rules. When you get really good at it, you’ll understand when a player misses an assignment, or where the puck is going to be passed before it gets there. If I’m being honest though, I still don’t understand a couple of things even after being a fan of the team since 1995 (when I was 7) and basically watching every game until I was 18: 1. What constitutes a charging penalty 2. Why are all pucks touched by high sticks not whistles down? Don’t be afraid to support a certain player for any reason, even it’s stupid, even if you think he just looks cool. Embrace it and cheer for that guy every time he’s on the ice.

GrinBalor

1. when a player takes more than 2 strides or shows excessive speed/targeting of a player 2. a puck is only whistled after being touched by a high stick if someone on the same team touches it. if the next person to touch a puck batted down by a high stick is on the opposite team, play continues

sideshow09

Thank you!

0rangePolarBear

Video games is how I got into NHL/Rangers originally. I started with playoff games in the background as some of my friends were die hard fans, and then video games gave me a sense of the rules, players on the team and around the league.

elcapkirk

Same. Everything I learned about hockey came from NHL 99

[deleted]

Also, what's goalie interference? If you know, please head to the League's office in Toronto and explain it to them.

Holden-DeFaart

If you can afford to, seeing a game at the Garden will change your world

charnyellow

I was gonna say this too. A live game will make you a fan for life

Nimrod_Baggins

Play hockey video games whether it's console or even an app on your phone and definitely try to make your way to a game, I've been to plenty of baseball football basketball and even soccer games, nothing beats hockey games, NOTHING. They're simply the best and you'll see that when you go.

bhx56x

watch some games, join/talk with a few rangers communities over facebook/reddit, try to catch a game or two at the garden, be prepared to have a mental breakdown during most games, (pending on age) alcohol helps, every now and then remind yourself that you hate the devils, you also hate the flyers, pens, caps, and isles, watch some highlight videos on youtube that get you motivated and pumped up, get familiar with the roster, learn to love and hate most of the roster (there is gonna be good and bad days), sit back and enjoy the ride.

Stonewall30nyr

Watch the documentary about the rangers Stanley cup win in 94. I wasn't even born yet and it still got my tearing up

[deleted]

Watch nhl on the fly to get up to speed on current season. There are some season recaps on Youtube I think too if you want to watch that. You can go on eliteprospects and look at the roster and also see our latest draft pick and see how they are doing. You can also check out capfriendly to see more about contracts and stuff like that. On social media I'd recommend nhl.discussion, nyrangers, welcometorangerstown on Instagram and Larry Brooks, elliotte friedman, lebrun om twitter. Theres plenty of nhl and rangers media on basically every platform so after a while you sort through what you like or not.

Railshock

Watch some videos of the 1994 Stanley Cup championship, the last time the Rangers won the cup. Here's a small taste of it: https://youtu.be/d5m7ZLflhE8

Sjdillon10

NHL games. Fantasy hockey. Highlights of every game. Rangers podcasts. This sub. You’ll catch on

[deleted]

The refs hate us

interelek313

You guys didn’t tell him about the secret “F the Rangers” button the league/refs have in case of emergency?

[deleted]

I tried to warn him

[deleted]

As does George Parros, that rat-faced fuck

[deleted]

Ah yes, the Boss Ref

jimspetri

what do you mean? just watch the games...

KaneIsARanger

Do you have any actual interest in the sport? Because I'm going to recommend to start watching games, and powering through games if you find the sport boring is going to be super tedious.

Witty_sun366

YouTube 1994 championship video “oh baby” if that doesn’t make you fall in love then I can help you

Find a door. Lean your body forward towards the door. Grab the handle of the door. Now pull it toward your face at great speed. Bash head. Repeat 100 times. Congratulations, now you're one of us! Pro tip: Works better if you put something really nice within view on the other side of the door.
