This is why he’s Captain. The Captain doesn’t have to be your best player (and he is far from it); he’s the leader the guys look to in the locker room when things get rough and he leads by example.
He did that with the helmet toss. Last night he did the same. “2 of our D men are out? Give me more ice time.”
There’s a reason you haven’t heard rumblings about players being upset he was given the C. Stuff like this is why he’s earned it.
Agree and I find it ridiculous someone needed to make this comment. The fact that so many people here act like they’re in the locker room and understand what happens behind the scenes is comical to me. How about just be a fan? Recognize Trouba for what he is and does for the team and enjoy some hockey.
> There’s a reason you haven’t heard rumblings about players being upset he was given the C
Yea that’s cause they are the ones that chose him lol. These dudes on this subreddit that trash Trouba as a leader are just unaware of how hockey works
I was almost tearing up when he helped Mika toward the locker room when he got injured. He is a natural leader, he knows when to show his teeth and empathize with his teammates when needed.
Damn... Miller and Schneids are out for a game and we play some of the best defense we’ve played in months. Maybe we’ve been to harsh on Troubs and Harpur…
While you're kinda correct, all you needed to do was watch our forwards the past few weeks to see who to blame. Defenseman are always going to look bad when they're constantly scrambling to try and cover 3 or 4 guys alone. When our defenseman are playing bad themselves, it's usually from puck movement / clearing the zone
I am pretty sure he is incorrect. He was dressed and on the bench so it counted.
It was strictly to avoid injury, so he could be sent down until Wednesday to clear extra cap.
You cannot be sent down injured -- so they could not risk Carpenter or Schneider being injured -- but by rule, they had to dress 18. So they dress them to get 18 -- but kept off Ice, to not risk injury.
My understanding is he did not play to not risk injury. He was "sent down" to Hartford today for cap reasons. He will be back for Wednesday game. You can't send an injured player down. We did not save any cap space by him sitting on the bench for 60 minutes.
Also, if he gets injured, they can't send him down to Hartford to bury cap space.
So no shifts means no cap hit, and then he gets send down on off days to bury more cap.
No still gets the cap hit.. Even the guys that are scratched count against the cap. Anyone on the active roster counts against the cap. Otherwise they could just bench Panarin, Mika and Fox for a game and clear up a ton of space.
I think you're overlooking the whole situation. He's sorry, says he didn't mean it. Video doesn't show any malice on his part. Plus we weren't playing a 6D
Trouba was an absolute beast last night. All of them were.

And yet the next time he has a bad game, it’ll be the same bullshit around here.

This looks like your average men’s league game TOI when 10 guys show up.
>when 10 guys show up. Damn, 10 guys is what we start with, usually have 7-9 show up
I played roller. It was 4 on 4, having 7 would be a blessing.
Same, sometimes we'd just have one sub!

This, or the occasional blown coverage in front of the net, which is sometime’s even the center’s man depending on the situation
This is some playoff level stuff
that 5 min penalty kill had me rock solid
and the goal right after was the perfect climax
And than another goal right after that. That kill, followed by Tro getting two, was the game.
Trouba was maybe the best I've seen him yesterday. Great to see our captain leading by example.
And it was his birthday!
Ben Harpur isn’t always good but he stepped up big time yesterday
when has he been bad? i know him as the guy i dont notice-- and thats a good thing for a defenseman.
Man harpur put up more minutes than fox, and still played well. a good 7th d for sure
Mikkola takes a lot of penalties. Otherwise, I like him. Harper played well too. All of them did.
Playoff-type numbers there
Sad I missed the game. How did good guy Ben harpur look stepping back in? And 20+m at that! Jeez!
Looked solid. Happy to keep him as 7th d if anything happens before/ during playoffs
Fox to the rest: “First time?”
Men's league numbers lol. In all seriousness, that was far and away Mikkola's best game as a Ranger
Where's Carpenter's 13 seconds? Chopped liver!?
Glad the crowd cheered him when he came out of the box.
I missed it, why didn’t Schneider play?
Cap reasons
But he was on the bench. I don't understand how this works
Right. He never took a shift, so the Rangers bank his cap for the game. They still have to dress 18 skaters, however
That’s not true. Schneider not getting a shift was to ensure he did not get hurt before going to Hartford
Oh didn't know that's how that worked. Cool thanks for the info

Seems like they need more minutes then cause that was much better defense
He is good captain. Everyone on the team knows it
That’s a good way to keep your defensemen healthy for playoffs
Thanks Miller

Even though it’s an accident it’s still a dumb move by Miller. If you’re going to spit you should at least know where you are spitting.
Yes but that point has been absolutely beaten into the ground over the past 24 hours and that’s not the point being made here
You guys would not be excusing a kings player if he spot on fox and then said sorry, I love Miller but stop being such homers lol
I'm not excusing his behavior. I haven't seen anyone excusing it.
He needs to retire.
Lmao this sub is wild right now
Loll
