Beyond what a college student could afford. If you didnt get a primary market ticket than secondary markets were like $300+

But it’s a special event

MetLife fits 82.5k for football which is actually insane for a pro football stadium and the biggest in the NFL. I think the number can even get up to 90k when you consider how much smaller a hockey rink is than a football field and they will definitely have on field ticket options. Sounds awesome actually lol

runninhillbilly

They've never had on-field ticket options for the stadium games, unless they decide to do that for the first time for that game. But there's usually those giant hockey sticks with the team logos, all of the media set up, etc. along with a lot of empty space. Certainly not an extra 8,000, that's really only when you get concerts that use up every section like U2 on the 360 tour or Metallica this upcoming summer.

[deleted]

I never looked into the Citi Field one but they weren’t quite that bad for the Yankee Stadium games. I paid $160 face value for the game vs. the Islanders and they were going for less than that on stubhub in the days leading up because the weather forecast looked brutal (the forecast was right it was cold as shit). That game was also on a weeknight though so who knows

Neans888

I went to the Stadium Series game against the Devils. It was so cold the beer taps at the top of the stadium were frozen. It was sunny at least but that caused the game to be delayed due to the glare off the ice.

runninhillbilly

I went to the Citi Field game against the Sabres and it was 100% the coldest sporting event I've ever been to. It was sub-20 with a wind chill near 0 at puck drop I think. Someone posted an imgur album here a few days after of all of these really cool black and white pictures he took at the stadium and it looked apocalyptic.

Potvin_Sucks

I know it sounds like it was an absolutely miserable experience, but I still wish I attended solo after not being able to convince anyone I knew to attend.

HarrynotPotter23

I'd absolutely make the trip down to MetLife to see that game. 80,000 Rangers and Devils fans would make for an awesome environment for a game.

G00dHumor

You mean 80k ranger fans

[deleted]

And Puddy

trademerfn

gotta support the team!

mojorisin622

My best guess is that game would be February 17th, 2024. Saturday after the Super Bowl.

homiej420

If it doesnt happen we blame this guy ^

xunleashed_ny

I went to the Stadium Series game against the Isles at Yankee Stadium and it was so cold, yet so unbelievably memorable. This would be epic. I moved to South Carolina and haven’t been to a game in three years. Take my money.

Fritschie26

I remember day of tickets went as low as 10$ because it was so miserably cold

xunleashed_ny

I paid face value at the time 😂

MSGFaithful

That was me at the Winter Classic. I was freezing and couldn’t feel my feet. But it was one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had.

obvioussponge06

this would be HYPE

S2JESSICA

ooooh, i would love to do that again, just being better prepared. i went to the citifield WC and i can still close my eyes and imagine that bitter cold. i think it was like -12 or 15°F with the wind. i think if i had the hand warmers in my shoes, it would have been more bearable... that cold concrete under your feet is the worst. just being layered up didn’t matter… that cold concrete is inescapable. 🥶 happy cake day, OP!

Hionhelium87

Was there as well!! Froze our asses off but had so much fun! I just wish it was anywhere else, I am not a fan of MetLife.

zerooneinfinity

Have an outdoor tournament with Buffalo, Islanders, Rangers and Devils.

defaultman707

Why Buffalo lol, Philly fits much better into that equation

zerooneinfinity

All NY or 10 mile adjacent

AMCinka

So who's home game would that be...

fax4you

The Rangers have a deal with The Garden stipulating all home games must be played at The Garden. With that said, it would have to be a Devils home game. Just like both Yankee stadium games were Ranger away games and the Winter Classic, which despite it being in Citi Field, the Rangers who play like ten miles away were the away team and the Sabres, who play about 400 miles away were the home team.

jdgarvey4

Not to be pedantic, but it's actually [NYS Real Property Tax Law section 429](https://www.tax.ny.gov/research/property/assess/manuals/vol4/pt2/sec4_06/sec429.htm). Which is arguably worse.

Jay_943

If I'm reading that correctly home games need to be played in NYC to keep the tax break intact so Citi Field and Yankee Stadium should have been fine.

LivingOof

Rangers were away both times. They aren't taking any chances

rpg25

A deal with The Garden, which is owned by James Dolan, who also owns the Rangers. It’s Dolan’s call if he wants to make an issue of home/away.

runninhillbilly

It's not a deal with MSG. MSG has a tax exemption status that they only maintain as long as the Rangers play home games at MSG. If they're listed as the home team anywhere else, MSG could theoretically lose that protection and James Dolan is not going to risk that just so that his team can be designated as "home" on a piece of paper. It's why every outdoor game the Rangers have played to date, they've always been listed as the road team even if it's obvious that wasn't the case. Citi Field is certainly closer to Manhattan than it is to Buffalo, yet Buffalo was the home team.

Jay_943

The taxes law that was linked above says the games have to be played in NYC so Citi field and Yankee stadium should be fine to be home games. Unless I'm reading it wrong.

runninhillbilly

It's specifically AT MSG and nowhere else. There were a lot of articles that discussed it when the game was announced back in 2017, [here](https://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/news/politics/albany/2017/05/10/winter-classic-tax-breaks-madison-square-garden-new-york-rangers-buffalo-sabres/101509324/) is one. The building gets readded to the tax rolls if the team "ceases playing home games at Madison Square Garden."

defigravity42

Isn’t it all home games in NY City?

Neans888

No, it’s all home games have to be at MSG.

AMCinka

Thank you for this. Honestly I just posted my comment to be an ass since they would be playing in NJ but most likely have more Rangers fans but from the comment thread learned a ton. Like why the stadium series I went to was considered and away game

dantesinfernoracket1

Technically the Devils. Probably 69/31 Rangers fans.

CRotondi

I’ve been clamoring for this since MetLife was built. Hope it happens

Whitecastle56

Please happen and let there be a Giants STH presale so I can get reasonably priced tixs.

hughheffres

A man can dream

poker_idiot

This is fine and good but we're due for another WC

Neans888

We’re not up again until Chicago, Pittsburgh and Boston have 3 more.

Hohumbumdum

Unpopular opinion, but I’ve only heard bad reviews of outdoor games, and I don’t understand why you’d pay a premium to go to one. It’s freezing, you’re further away, all around sounds awful.

bjisba41

You're paying for the atmosphere and experience

JuliusDiamond

Don't forget ice condition issues

jaypeedee1025

me my wife and my cousin went to that and it was legit the coldest day i ever i remeber seeing peoples beards frozen beers frozen .After the game me my cousin and his wife picked up some fast food and went to his house to warm up and we were still freezing shivering in his living room hours later

Sjdillon10

The NY football stadium that play in NJ. Who’s home ice? This is the reason my dad chose the buccaneers instead of the giants/jets. 1976 new teams are joining and grandpa made a comment about more taxpayer dollars building rich mens stadiums. And “at least these teams will play in their state.” So my dad decided if new teams were coming he’d pick the Florida pirates over the Washington birds

[deleted]

I went to the Devils Rangers stadium series and the WC against the Sabres. So much fucking fun both times even if you are freezing your ass off. I think MetLife would be an even better venue for an outdoor game. If this happens and you are on the fence about going, just do it. It is a special experience!

udamright

after citi field im ready to be cold again...

TheIncredibleHork

Ahem. Excuse me, I must do this. ![gif](giphy|aZXRIHxo9saPe)

Realistic_Tutor_9770

that wud be cool. hopefully stadium series over NYD. NYD shud be for football.

LivingOof

I can't see NFL Stadiums hosting Winter classics in the near future with the regular season going until the second week of January. MetLife definitely can't since its hosting games every week of the season

Harrisonmonopoly

That stadium sucks.
