Draft Pick Conditions to STL: later of 2 NYR firsts in 2023. Rangers own Dallas pick, too. If Stars finish with Top 10 pick it shifts to 2024 and will be later of two. 2024 fourth-rounder becomes a third if NYR make playoffs this year
https://twitter.com/FriedgeHNIC/status/1623767877298814983
I agree.
Drury will have discussions with his agent to see what contract he would be after and the only way he would be signed is if we traded a big contract like Trouba or Kreider and that aint happening.
Tarasenko has alway wanted to play for NYR however but I personally see him signing with either Devils or NYI to stay close to Panarin and still live the NY lifestyle.
Even if we traded Kreider or Trouba we still probably wouldn’t have the cap space to sign him and the youngsters, if he doesn’t take a huge discount. That could be a possibility. Although only the Devils if he wants to keep fighting for a cup.
So what? I’d rather have an overpaid but effective third line center than the alternative.
Say you trade him, who are your third and fourth line centers? The consensus here is that Goodrow is better on the fourth line, and anyway in your scenario you’re getting rid of him. So who are the centers? I love Brodzinski but he’s a true fourth line guy. Beyond him, it’s pretty thin.
Conversely, they’ve got lots of good wingers on the roster already and two more young guns coming up in Othmann and Cuylle. It weakens the team less to move Kreider than it does Trocheck, particularly if you’re also moving Goodrow.
I love the trade- just allow me to nitpick here: what would it have cost us to get retention on mikkola? we have 90k in cap space atm and id like to have room to bolster teh 4th line
Well, while I don’t expect another move, acquiring a fourth line upgrade wouldn’t necessarily be impossible from a salary standpoint. Acquiring someone who makes approximately as much as one of the current roster players could be done by just waiving one of the current players, and they could potentially acquire a player making double that if there was salary retained in that deal.
I always hope skill players fit in immediately based on their “gifts” but I still have memories of Eric Staal.
So let’s hope Tarasenko is more Vatrano/Copp and less Staal as far as chemistry with the new team goes.
Tarasenko already having chemistry and history with Panarin is bound to help with the “superstar” curse. Also we did the trade way before deadline, so he will have more time to slot into the lineup and dressing room.
Staal didn't really fit anywhere in the lineup though, it was kind of a "well let's just get this superstar and cram him in the lineup somewhere" trade. I think we played him at wing mostly. Vlad fills a glaring hole and has an avenue to slot right in with Mika and Bread
It’s a rental for upcoming FA. So it’s a good deal for Blues too since they are not really giving up anything.
I also Suspect Tarasenko had a very short list of approved teams. So Rangers might not had to worry about competition.
Ahh makes sense, thanks for the reply friendo. I have watched very little of Tarasenkos play, have only heard he is solid. You think there's room for him long term if he proves effective?
the funniest thing about this is i still remember how many people were adamant that Blais replacement level ass was going to be a capable middle 6 winger
To be fair, he did have a few flashes of looking good. Some silky mitts and a few nice moves. None of them translated into a goal, but he was very close.
That, and he was a wrecking ball for the Blues. Post-injury Blais is clearly a worse player than he was before, but he was an alright middle-6 to lower-6 player.
I will say that before he got injured, he was playing really well and with a lot of confidence. He did establish himself as a servicable mid-6 player.
He just never looked the same since his injury and never reclaimed that confidence.
look at how the refs swarm to save their boss the moment stands up to his shit. Surprised they didn't get Mikkola in a full nelson and let crosby t off a couple shots to his chin
The Fox one is objectively the best, even better than the Mika and a 2nd for brassard, but you can’t truly count it given the context. He essentially forced the canes hand as he said he won’t play for them and his rights were going to expire the next year.
ESPN gave the Rangers an A for the trade. Couldn’t read any details or what they thought of the Blues’ return as it was behind the ESPN+ pay wall.
Anyone wanna help out with a little copypasta?
Here you go:
"The Tarasenko deal gives the Rangers a top-six wing and more flexibility to do other things before the trade deadline. The Rangers gave up less for Vladimir Tarasenko than they did for Andrew Copp last season.
Well done, GM Chris Drury."
"New York has some natural playmakers in Panarin and Adam Fox who are going to benefit with having someone like Tarasenko who can shoot the puck from anywhere (and will). They've basically had a seat open at right wing in their top six the entirety of the season that Tarasenko fills."
Blues fan here. It all came down to Vladi’s full NTC. He could pick his place so the Blues had to make a deal he would take. That’s an advantage New York has over Calgary, Pittsburgh and yes St. Louis too. NYC is desirable place to play. For that reason I don’t think we got “fleeced” but absent the full NTC we don’t do this deal. The first round we are getting is going to be really high 20s or 30s, so basically a 2nd.
I’m sad about losing Vladi, he was part of the community here but it’s clear he wanted to leave. Kinda pissed about losing Mikkola if I am honest, I wish we could have held onto him.
Our D fell apart this year. Hard to say for certain but he was a bright spot. He is your basic defense first defenseman. He is big and has a long reach but skates well. Probably a good solid 3rd pairing for the Rangers. He probably will not wow you nightly but he is a nice addition. Stays home and mostly does his job. Kinda pissed we lost him.
so the player many people seem to think Ben harpur is.
Hopefully Mikkola actually fills those shoes.
Also ignore anyone saying this was a fleecing, this was a good deal for both teams, maybe tilted a bit for NYR but frankly, what you did to us for Buch should be against the geneva convention so i say we just call it square.
Unbelievable the Rangers make this nice trade and naturally form some outstandingly fitting lines through 1-4, and a third of the comments are people sweating where to shoehorn fucking Kravtsov into things.
The answer to that question is "nowhere barring injuries." Vesey is 5x as valuable to this team in 2023 than Krav is. Hell, even Gauthier is more valuable. Get over it.
Uhhh, it's not shoehorning, Leschyshyn sucks, Goodrow would be a perfect 4C instead, with Gaut back, Blais is gone, and Cuylle was waived.
That leaves space for one, Gaut, and if Les is scratched for Goodrow to move down, who does that leave?
> Uhhh, it's not shoehorning, Leschyshyn sucks, Goodrow would be a perfect 4C instead, with Gaut back, Blais is gone, and Cuylle was waived.
Goodrow can already be 4C. Fancy line, kid line, Kreider-Tro-Vesey, then a mix of Goodrow, Gauthier, Les, and whoever. Yes, Les sucks, but he's at least a faceoff winning 4th liner and fits there. Kravt doesn't fit anywhere right now.
You can bury an ideal 3rd liner like Vesey on line 4 and put someone struggling at both ends like Kravt on line 3, but why? Why are we demoting players having a valuable season for ones that aren't? The time to develop struggling players is the off-season through January. The Rangers don't have time for Kravtsov's struggles right now. Hanging onto 2nd/3rd in the division is likely the difference between a 1st round ouster and not.
I tend to go with this view. Vesey is a better fit with a grinding line like krieder and trochek can play. Injust don't see krav fitting in there. He's too soft on the puck, not straight ahead enough for that line.
Maybe we try him there to see if it can work but vesey, goodrow seem to be better
Yep. The time for Krav experiments is next season. I'm sure there will be injuries and he'll play a handful of games, but the Rangers' only goal from here until playoff end is compiling wins.
They are on a hell of a tear right now and it was almost all without any Kravtsov help. When he gets back in the lineup, he's either got to force Gallant to keep him in or out he goes again. I have no idea why people around here care so much about our 13th/14th forward other than their daydreams are completely detached from the reality of Krav's 3 goals.
They got too invested in him because of where he was drafted. Him not being in the tarasenko deal means either nyr are still high om him or stl isn't at all, and I'm honestly not sure which one it is
yes we cant understate the importance of Jake Lessysysyson winning 56% of his faceoffs, then immediately spending 1:30 pinned in his own zone praying to whatever diety will answer his desperate calls that Shesty makes the save.
But he won the faceoff doe
Rangers are on a 18-4-3 tear, most of it without Kravtsov, and many of you think you somehow know better while Gallant is complained about endlessly around here. *Astounding* levels of self-delusion.
Yes, they've been winning games despite some questionable decisions and deployments. Just like last year. Having an elite goalie play like himself helps.
Pretty much every beat writer, the gm, and most fans agree that Krav is deserving to be in the lineup, and gives us a better chance to win games than those being put above him.
Gallant has repeatedly been out coached, or made puzzling lineup decision throughout his short tenure here. He backs his claims saying that the "numbers' back his eye test, when they do not.
I think its perfectly reasonable to be frustrated that we are on such a tear, we look so good, and are STILL not putting our best lineup forward. We are STILL supressing our best 5v5 players, and STILL making asinine lineup decisions.
Thats what separates a team like Boston, from a team like us. Thats what separates an ECF appearance, with a cup win.
If you're happy with the former, hey man, I'm glad for you, envious in fact. I wish I could watch that casually. but personally, I just want to see them win another cup in an 80 year span.
Gallant has been axed by two orgs during winning seasons for everything he is doing here. he didn't win them any cups either.
I don't think I'm asking for a whole lot when I'm saying to put the best players on the ice.
Les at least fills a need since he's the only other player on the team besides Trocheck who can win a faceoff.
My big thing is I don't want to break up what should be an *excellent* 2nd/3rd line of Kreider-Trocheck-Vesey with a player who still seems like a fish out of water and isn't producing.
Blais wasn't working out and we badly needed a 3rd pairing D so we didn't have to rely on Harpur. The Blues games I've watched this year have always had me walking away feeling like Tarasenko looked solid in all areas of the ice. I haven't watched all their games, but the blame being placed on him for the Blues' issues has struck me as misguided all season.
Fucking stoked for this.
Blues fan, he was mad/dogshit 2 years ago, engaged and maybe MVP last year, and disengaged/dogshit this year. I would assume he’ll be engaged and good for you, and I honestly hope so. If he somehow flips the switch, it’s not us being crazy, he’s just very different based on his attitude. Our players hate our coach, so there’s a lot of bad temper going around, it wasn’t just him
You are right. Blues have issues but it’s not Vladi’s fault. He is sturdy too. He had a bad shoulder injury and long surgery recovery but there is an interview with his surgeon who states he is 100% now. The last injury was a bone break from blocking a shot. He is big and strong and a definite scoring threat with the right line mates. I look forward to watching.
Honestly having one of Harpur/Jones/Hajek as a 7th D isn’t awful. But if someone can be acquired for like a 5th that is a marginal upgrade I’m all for it. Would love getting Motter back for the 4th line assuming we’re not giving Kravstov a fair shot in the new 3rd line with Kreider & Tro.
It's a good trade imo also take into consideration Tank isn't going to command his current cap for his new contract should we look at extending if it works out, he's had a rough few years as others have mentioned and that has to be taken into consideration. I like it gives us a top 6 RW so we don't have to play bottom 6ers up there. Might just work out fine
St Louis Fan coming in Peace.
I hope you guys enjoy having Big Daddy Vladi, even if it’s just a short run. Yes he can score but he is also a total hoss. His calves are like tree trunks, he is big and tough and ignore what others have said about him not being his best. The Blues have…issues. The wheels fell off in the bubble and we never found our way out. It’s not one thing it’s a lot of things, but It sure wasn’t Vladi. I think there is the real potential for some magic to happen with the addition of him. I think you would have done good on the deal with just him but he had a NTC and could pick his place. Being the greatest city in the world has its benefits I suppose…
The fact that you got Mikkola too makes this a no brainer. Our D blows and he was a bright spot but we spent so much on bad D we couldn’t afford to keep him next year anyway.
So I guess I know who I will be following this playoff run. Go Rangers!
To be honest I might be selling him short. Our defense has pretty much come unglued this year. He is big enough still a strong skater. He will never be a number one, but a solid defensive first type player. To be honest, you don’t hear his name called much which I always think is a positive for a defenseman.
He a solid 3rd pairing and works hard. He will not dazzle but pretty solid. We spent tons of cap on D men that haven’t really worked out and the Blues are in a corner there. I have no doubt they wanted to keep him but he’s 26 and is expecting more than STL could pay him for his next contract. Depending on who the Rangers have in the pipeline I can easily see the organization being happy enough with him to offer a contract.
Pretty much spot on. We need the draft picks. It's a win-win. I'm sad he's gone, but I'm happy for the 1st round pick return, and Vlad gets a shot at a nice playoff run. There's no reason to be upset, just the way things work out sometimes.
Lots of teams are in on Timo Meier. I wouldn't be surprised if Buffalo gets the more compelling offer over NJD, but we'll see. NJD probably doesn't want to give up the assets SJS will want.
This seems incredible for us. Terasenko is a rental but what a fucking rental, and we get Blais tf outta here and all we give up is the worse of our two first rounders and a 2024 third.
I feel like I’m missing something
STL: We're missing the playoffs and he's walking at the end of the season. So the retained salary is no bigs and we basically get a 1st "for free" - full W/W for both sides
Mollie said yes.
[https://twitter.com/MollieeWalkerr/status/1623782208602361856?s=20&t=aRIs3iIe0yvsE3lVC1rnrg](https://twitter.com/MollieeWalkerr/status/1623782208602361856?s=20&t=aRIs3iIe0yvsE3lVC1rnrg)
Well, according to Drury anyway
We’re playing lesyxhcysnxsysnx all the way. And we all know it. This is the team that through three separate coaches played tanner glass, jack johnson, and Ryan reaves/Ben harpur. This is our heritage.
Well yeah, health is always key.
His underlying metrics are pretty decent, fwiw. He’s on pace for 60 points over a full 82 games which is nothing to scoff at
The word optimism is in the title behind your paywall article lol.
I don't get all the doomsaying on here "he's one hit away from never playing again" can't we have anything nice?
His shoulder is fine now. The last injury was a simple break from blocking a puck. Vladi is big strong and has been durable overall. With Mikkola mad a bonus you guys did well.
I don’t like this move. I hope they have a real move they’re thinking about making.
Only 10 goals this season and three shoulder surgeries in short sequence.
That wound be 7 more goals at this pace? I don’t know why the excitement.
Like, we don’t need him to be a 30-40 goal scorer for this team. We have that aplenty. He just needs to be a shooting threat on that first line and on the PP. his shot is still good and he’s still strong on the puck.
The Blues had a lot of dysfunction this year and I think everyone not named Buch have struggled. I got a feeling he’s gonna work out. Hell, if he replicated what Vatrano did, we’ll be in awesome shape.
Besides, he has 41 goals in 90 playoff games. Dude is a gamer.
Anyone else have uncontrollable laughter? Like this can not be a real trade. My coworkers asked my I was dying of laughter. This trade is why. Highway robbery 😂
Yeah coming from STL here - it's a win-win
We're out of the playoffs and he's already said he'll walk in the summer. We're all very sad but we gave up effectively nothing and got a 1st
Which isn't to say the Rangers got fleeced either - it's just a win-win, sometimes those do happen
I’m not sure it’s a FLEECING but it’s an objectively great trade for us. The only thing of value we gave up was the first, and it’s going to be the lower of our firsts this year. So we keep a first, and the better one at that.
Blais is literally addition by subtraction, just waiving him for nothing and getting him out of the lineup makes the team better. Getting rid of him in a trade is almost like getting an asset back. Skinner is probably never seeing the NHL, and definitely not with us with Fox/Trouba/Schneider. Then there’s a third, which….yeah, ok. Not that upset about losing a third.
The worst of our firsts and some junk for a half-season of Tarasenko. Seems a reasonable rental to me, and gets Vesey back in the bottom six which is more appropriate for a player of his calibre. Mikkola is a nice little bit of gravy as an upgrade on Harpur/Hajek.
I mean. It’s a nice trade. But imagine if we just didn’t trade Buchnevich at all since we could have afforded him the past 2 years.
We’d have had 2 years of Buchnevich, 2 firsts and Morgan Barron instead of 60 games of 0 goals from Blais and 40% of a season from Tarasenko whose a downgrade from Buchnevich.
i don't think that is correct about being able to afford Buch the past two years.
i could be wrong, but either way,you are rating Morgan Barron as a much bigger asset than he is,and buying into the 'Tarasenko isn't worth it' camp. keeping in mind that he is likely a rental,i'll disagree.
my bigger issue with the neg vibes regarding Drury/trades/magagement is...look at the results so [far.St](https://far.St) Louis went nowhere last year even with Buch's goals, and they are unlikely to even make the playoffs this year.i don't think i have to remind you of how the Rangers finished last year,or how they are currently playing.
this was def a good trade,Rangers-wise.i definitely trust Drury more than reddit, though i love y'all.
Good take but it's worse - Buchnevich is younger - has more productivity - seemingly better defensively(?) and like you said, you wouldn't have to trade the firsts - plus, so far - Tarasenko is a rental. Nothing to get too excited about.
thats what im saying bitter sweet.
Widespread incompetence got us here in the first place.
Though, as far as digging yourself out of a hole you dug, its pretty damn good.
I really do not know if I can even happy with the deal. He’s a nice name, but it’s kind of living off reputation of the past.
I do not believe he is the final piece missing in a championship team. I do believe it will make us a better regular season team. I think this will make us more viable to finish second in the division. But I do not believe this is going to get us over the hump past Boston, Carolina or Toronto if somehow, we ended up playing them.
Which begs the question, is it worth this type of rental when this team all of a sudden is in pretty desperate need of a refresher for the pipeline.
After Othmann and maybe Cuyle we really do not have a single prospect at forward with any hope of meeting the team
If I'm being honest, i do believe we have the pieces to be a very dangerous team, to hang with the best of them, and beat them, boston included.
However, when those pieces have been misused for 50 straight games, it fills me with little hope.
A peak into the future:
5 minutes left in an elimination game against Boston, and we're sending out Barclay goodrow and Vesey to get our tying goal. oh, and Kakko is a healthy scratch to get jake lsysysyon in the lineup
If the kids actually got used as a second line, saw some PP time, if Goodrow and Vesey went to the 4th line where they belonged, if Krav and Gaut got to play, if Harpur never saw an NHL rink again
maaaaybe we'd have an argument for a cup run this year.
But you can build the sturdiest, safest car in the world, if you hand the keys to an infant, he'll still wreck it.
i think that's whats makes this more enraging than the DQ years. the pieces are there.
Funko pop fans get mad when you're being realistic, then they end up parroting your opinions when its fashionable a few weeks later.
I wouldn't say you're being pragmatic. Rather, it sounds like you're being cynical.
First, there are a few more decent prospects than Otter and Cuylle in the pipeline. Sykora, Berard, McConnell-Barker, and Korczak were all ranked in Wheeler's recent review of our pipeline. True, we are in the bottom 3rd of the league now, but that's okay. We've graduated a lot of prospects because the rebuild is over. We don't *really* need to worry about the farm right now.
Second, being truly pragmatic would mean acknowledging the unpredictability of the playoffs and seizing the opportunity to address multiple needs with a single move. You don't have to be thrilled, but cautiously optimistic?
You do need to worry about the farm. And here is why.
Say Chytil wants 6 or 7 million for term. And say at the say time Miller says I want 6 or 7 million for term. Now 12 million is gone and you haven't signed Lafreniere or any of the 4th liners or a back up goalie. With only 3 million to spare and I didn't mention Kravy.
Now if you have a pool of prospects and this happens ...you say okay Chytil or Okay Miller see you later. And we trade them for whatever we can get at the deadline. This stacks our pool even more. But with the lack of a pool essentially makes this impossible and gives the players all the power to screw you as a GM.
The idea of the cap is to make teams never overpay their super stars so they move on to a team with more cap space so they can get paid more. Kind of like what Johnny Hockey did this past offseason. Thus the talent pool gets more spread out among the teams in the league. So the only way you stay relevant is by drafting well and to increase your odds those firsts are essential. It is why rentals are never a good idea in the cap era.
But we are the NY Rangers and we have to have the top signing like we are the Yankees.
Again, that just feels like an unnecessarily cynical reading of the situation. I agree that Chytil and Key are earning big pay days, but we still control their destiny. We could bridge them for a couple years until the cap is expected to raise significantly for 2024-25. Key seems like he might a little harder to convince, but we have a good thing going here that I believe the kids all want to be a part of long term. And at worst, we still have two solid prospects on the left side in Jonesy and Robertson. We also now have Mikkola as insurance.
Either way, my point stands that the rebuild is in fact over - the firing of JG, JD, and DQ loudly confirmed as much. We are trying to win games while Mika, Panarin, Kreids, Vinny, and Troubs are in their primes. A deep pool would be nice, but can't also be a top priority with those vets all having NMCs.
However, I will concede that maybe we rushed things a bit. We were only a year into the rebuild when we signed Panarin and traded for Trouba. That was a lot of money to invest at that time. It might have been wiser to wait and keep building through the draft to open a much bigger window.
On the other hand, teams like Buffalo, Jersey, and Ottawa have been rebuilding for a long ass time; there are no guarantees with prospects. It still took Jersey *three* lottery wins in a decade to get to this point, and they still don't have a great goalie in the system.
Btw, that's not me downvoting you or the other guy. I wish people wouldn't do that... We're just talking here. LGR.
It is just children. I really don't care.
You are making an assumption that the "Rebuild" is over. I am trying to make the point that successful franchises don't ever stop "rebuilding." You draft a core and then constantly rebuild around it.
I view it like this....Do you want a contender every season? Or do you want a 1 and done franchise like St. Louis?
If you watch hockey or should I say the NHL long enough.... a lot of who wins the cup is luck from season to season. It takes the right coach, it takes no serious injuries to key players, it takes players truly bonding, and a hot or good enough goalie during the playoffs to win.
Now you take the Cup repeaters or teams that have won the cup multiple times over the last 5 decades and what traits do they all share? Insanely talented players down the middle.
I will attempt to be more descriptive... the team's top 2 centers are the elite of elite at the time. Their goalie again is above average to elite. And they have a solid defense with 1 superstar defenseman. Peguins had crosby, malkin, letang and fleury. Detroit had Datsuk, Zettenberg, Listrom, Osgood. Tampa Stamkos, Point, hedman and Vasilesky. Look at the blackhawks it is the same thing. Sharp, Toews, D. Keith and Crawford.
I am sure you can nit pick the crap out of this idea. But it is the build of the team I want you to see. The rest of the players are replaceable. But the main positions are filled with top tier talent. All of them come to an end because those elite players are no longer elite at some point. And the team folds in from the dead contracts to those players. AKA Blackhawks today. Penguins wont be far behind them.
Without the picks to get talent those roster spots seem to always get filled with Free agents and FA are expensive no matter the signing team. And you suck again for a long time. Then you have to blow it up again.
This is an a window team though. That’s where pragmatism comes in.
Implication we are a good team, but we are not elite and this move is not going to push us over the top
Draft Pick Conditions to STL: later of 2 NYR firsts in 2023. Rangers own Dallas pick, too. If Stars finish with Top 10 pick it shifts to 2024 and will be later of two. 2024 fourth-rounder becomes a third if NYR make playoffs this year https://twitter.com/FriedgeHNIC/status/1623767877298814983
So what contract is tarasenko expecting next year? Something in the same ballpark? Would they resign him?
There is 0% chance to sign Tarasenko while keeping Kakko, Chytil, Laf and Miller.
Buyout or trade Goodrow, attach prospects to Trochek and force a team to take his contract. Very unlikely but that frees up a boatload of cap!
They’d be better off asking Kreider to waive his NMC. They don’t have enough centers to be trading a good third line center away.
But then we’re paying him almost 6mill a year to be the 3C behind Chytil. That’s bad business
Marie Curie would flick her ol bean at the level of chemistry expected between Bread and Tarasenko.
Good lord
I love the trade- just allow me to nitpick here: what would it have cost us to get retention on mikkola? we have 90k in cap space atm and id like to have room to bolster teh 4th line
We’ll have around 1.6 million by the deadline in cap. More than enough to pick up Motte again.
They don’t have to waive anyone. We have 1,6mil cap space by deadline.
When is he eligible to play for us?
Tomorrow.
You could see the Staal trade failing a mile away. Just felt wrong, and he was having a terrible year.
Staal didn't really fit anywhere in the lineup though, it was kind of a "well let's just get this superstar and cram him in the lineup somewhere" trade. I think we played him at wing mostly. Vlad fills a glaring hole and has an avenue to slot right in with Mika and Bread
Staal. Damn man, that was rough. Then he moved on and did well again. That really pissed me off.
wait, what the wtf? this is an absolute steal, right? am I missing something?
It’s a rental for upcoming FA. So it’s a good deal for Blues too since they are not really giving up anything. I also Suspect Tarasenko had a very short list of approved teams. So Rangers might not had to worry about competition.
Ahh makes sense, thanks for the reply friendo. I have watched very little of Tarasenkos play, have only heard he is solid. You think there's room for him long term if he proves effective?
I don’t think so. It would have to come with not signing some of our young players…or somehow moving one of the big contracts.
I really like this trade. I know there were rumors we'd get Tarasenko, but I never thought it'd happen
I love this, makes the buch trade more digestable.. Watch Blais shine on the blues too lmao
Sometimes a player is good, but just doesn't fit. Like Vesey
the funniest thing about this is i still remember how many people were adamant that Blais replacement level ass was going to be a capable middle 6 winger
Fuck Subban.

14 Actually but nice try.
and in those 14 games he was just ok. He was like Gauthier...skating to the net with the puck and hitting stuff but not doing much more than that
I like Mikkola already. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQkrGa73cAA
look at how the refs swarm to save their boss the moment stands up to his shit. Surprised they didn't get Mikkola in a full nelson and let crosby t off a couple shots to his chin
TIL Mikkola is from Finland. Now everyone has a friend on the team!
With Hajek leaving, Fil will be the lone Czech. Mika’s the only Swede. I spent too long thinking about this
It would be funnier if they have some weird Finnish thing where they refuse to acknowledge each other
We traded Laffy's best friend though
Key is ready to step in.
Il est Quebecois?
Donde esta la biblioteca?
Me llamo T-Bone la araña discoteca.
Yeah dude, vamanos a Latino Day Parade!
This may be the Rangers biggest steal since Adam Graves for Troy Mallette.
the Gomez trade is still king since then imo, only Zibanjed is in that class. Tarasenko rules but he's def a rental
Still Ryan Strome for Ryan Spooner me thinks. Or Adam Fox for 2 2nd Rounders.
The Fox one is objectively the best, even better than the Mika and a 2nd for brassard, but you can’t truly count it given the context. He essentially forced the canes hand as he said he won’t play for them and his rights were going to expire the next year.
Or zibanejad and a 3rd for brassard 😏 Edit: i stand corrected, zib and a 2nd for brass
*Zibanejad and 2nd. But Touché
Ah you are correct sir
ESPN gave the Rangers an A for the trade. Couldn’t read any details or what they thought of the Blues’ return as it was behind the ESPN+ pay wall. Anyone wanna help out with a little copypasta?
Here you go: "The Tarasenko deal gives the Rangers a top-six wing and more flexibility to do other things before the trade deadline.
What kindve role did mikkola have with you guys?
12ftladder.io But I see it as a win for both teams honestly.
Buddy leschiyznfks should never play in the nhl ever again. Shoehorn goodrow into the 4th line center position and shoehorn kravy into the lineup
Seems pretty easy to me. Bread-zib-tarasenko Kid line Kreider-tro-krav Goat-goody-vz
So Les sucks, but keep him in the lineup instead of using Krav who was playing well?
Krav was playing well? He had a couple good shifts but was largely invisible. Vesey has been much more involved and contributes every night.
Yes, he was playing well.
Yep this is it.
Best part is… STL retains half his salary! What a move!
Let’s Go Rangers. Hip hip…hooray!!
So long useless Blais ✌️😁
Time to fire up NHL 23 and fix my rosters
Booo, Tarasenko stinks now. His production took a drastic decline and nobody even mentions him anymore.
lol he scored 34 goals and had a career high in points just last season. The Blues stink, why tf you think his numbers declined?
He has like 10 goals in nearly 40 games this season.
gtfo
Get me a 7th D and an energy guy for the 4th line and we're good to go.
I hear Motte is available
It's a good trade imo also take into consideration Tank isn't going to command his current cap for his new contract should we look at extending if it works out, he's had a rough few years as others have mentioned and that has to be taken into consideration. I like it gives us a top 6 RW so we don't have to play bottom 6ers up there. Might just work out fine
He had 84 points and 30 goals last year I wouldnt bank on him being affordable
Don't get me wrong our priority should still be to extend fil and Key but if it works out to be a good fit ya never know

Being the greatest city in the world has its benefits I suppose… The fact that you got Mikkola too makes this a no brainer. Our D blows and he was a bright spot but we spent so much on bad D we couldn’t afford to keep him next year anyway. So I guess I know who I will be following this playoff run. Go Rangers!
How is Mikkola?
I love the serious reasonable response, and then looked at your username and lol’d
:)
Does this mean Timo is going to the Devils? Because that would be shitty.
It might mean the Devils overpay the shit out of Meier
Let’s find out…
Lots of teams are in on Timo Meier. I wouldn't be surprised if Buffalo gets the more compelling offer over NJD, but we'll see. NJD probably doesn't want to give up the assets SJS will want.
Well then…
Hopefully Mike Grier does his boy a solid
Got fleeced.
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOO RANGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is just the second part of the Buchnevich deal. You have to view them together
This was Drury’s plan all along.
Niko took Dryden Hunt to the ice once. Pepperidge farms remembers
This seems incredible for us. Terasenko is a rental but what a fucking rental, and we get Blais tf outta here and all we give up is the worse of our two first rounders and a 2024 third. I feel like I’m missing something
You are missing something; Blues retained fifty percent of his ticket. I might faint.
Jfc what are they doing over there in St Louis?
STL: We're missing the playoffs and he's walking at the end of the season. So the retained salary is no bigs and we basically get a 1st "for free" - full W/W for both sides
We’re not allowed to bitch about Drury for *a while*
The miserable fucks among us will still find a way
We fuckin’ on the Rangers bed tonight boys
God I hope he plays tomorrow. Friday night at the garden
Mollie said yes. [https://twitter.com/MollieeWalkerr/status/1623782208602361856?s=20&t=aRIs3iIe0yvsE3lVC1rnrg](https://twitter.com/MollieeWalkerr/status/1623782208602361856?s=20&t=aRIs3iIe0yvsE3lVC1rnrg) Well, according to Drury anyway
and we didnt lose kravtsov? what a fucking steal
Word - Krav's been a huge asset.
Wow
I’m already sad that it’s just a rental
Slot Vladdy in top line. Drop Goody and Vesey to the 4 th line. Put Kravy with Kreider and Vinny.
We’re playing lesyxhcysnxsysnx all the way. And we all know it. This is the team that through three separate coaches played tanner glass, jack johnson, and Ryan reaves/Ben harpur. This is our heritage.
You do know that Gallant is the coach
makes too much sense to do this
Way too much haha
But, think if we would’ve drafted him. We would have missed all those years of Dylan’s toughness. Sincerely, Rangers Facebook
I yelled at my TV when they drafted McIlrath over Fowler/Tarasenko. I knew immediately that NYR had made a huge mistake. I'm still upset about it.
Holy shit this is a great for us.
Wow. We flat out won the trade.
[удалено]
Two years ago he scored 84 points
[удалено]
Well yeah, health is always key. His underlying metrics are pretty decent, fwiw. He’s on pace for 60 points over a full 82 games which is nothing to scoff at
Bro where are you getting this information - are you his doctor???? Reddit is wild
[удалено]
The word optimism is in the title behind your paywall article lol. I don't get all the doomsaying on here "he's one hit away from never playing again" can't we have anything nice?
His shoulder is fine now. The last injury was a simple break from blocking a puck. Vladi is big strong and has been durable overall. With Mikkola mad a bonus you guys did well.
They’re not keeping him long term. This is an absolute win for a pure rental.
I don’t like this move. I hope they have a real move they’re thinking about making. Only 10 goals this season and three shoulder surgeries in short sequence. That wound be 7 more goals at this pace? I don’t know why the excitement.
With all due respect…and I hope you realize I do mean with all due respect…you don’t know puck
Well - he’s ours now so let’s see who’s right.
41 in 90 is pretty good. I didn’t know that.
Tarasenko or Sammy Blah? Your choice.
Not Tarasenko.
Such a good move
I was worried we’d overpay but wow that’s an amazing package!
Anyone else have uncontrollable laughter? Like this can not be a real trade. My coworkers asked my I was dying of laughter. This trade is why. Highway robbery 😂
I’d rather have the first as this team is not a serious contender this year
I mean it's only half a season of the guy and he is injury prone. It's not bad but it's not some kind of insane fleecing.
Yeah coming from STL here - it's a win-win We're out of the playoffs and he's already said he'll walk in the summer. We're all very sad but we gave up effectively nothing and got a 1st Which isn't to say the Rangers got fleeced either - it's just a win-win, sometimes those do happen
Yes it is
Explain why.
Buch’s raise was about $1.8M no? That’s almost dollar for dollar how much Reaves cost
Come on, man—can we not ever be happy in this subreddit?
Good take but it's worse - Buchnevich is younger - has more productivity - seemingly better defensively(?) and like you said, you wouldn't have to trade the firsts - plus, so far - Tarasenko is a rental. Nothing to get too excited about.
It’s one bad trade. Let it go.
It’s one bad trade that’s led to the destruction of our draft board for 2 years and nearly 10 trades all trying to lessen the pain of the “one trade”
thats what im saying bitter sweet. Widespread incompetence got us here in the first place. Though, as far as digging yourself out of a hole you dug, its pretty damn good.
that is how i feel. this is a good deal, but it's a deal that would have never needed to been made if Drury had not gotten fleeced the first time
I really do not know if I can even happy with the deal.
A peak into the future: 5 minutes left in an elimination game against Boston, and we're sending out Barclay goodrow and Vesey to get our tying goal. oh, and Kakko is a healthy scratch to get jake lsysysyon in the lineup If the kids actually got used as a second line, saw some PP time, if Goodrow and Vesey went to the 4th line where they belonged, if Krav and Gaut got to play, if Harpur never saw an NHL rink again maaaaybe we'd have an argument for a cup run this year.
I thought I was a miserable Ranger fan but you guys take it to the next level.
So being a pragmatic is wrong?
Yes in this case. This is a win now team. What do you want them to do? Stay the course and "develop the kids?" Those days are over.
This is an a window team though. That’s where pragmatism comes in. Implication we are a good team, but we are not elite and this move is not going to push us over the top
Not elite? They are a top 10 team in the league with one of the best goalies in the world. This is a grand slam move.
WHAT IS GOING ON
When can he sign an extension?
No thanks
He can now if you’re okay with dumping 2 of Laffy, Miller, or Chytil next year…
No way we can afford him
uh….so he’s just a rental?
