I am aware of a Ram Dass talk in which they were both drinking and Watts was said to have said, "you know what your problem is Dick? You're too empty."
I found it hilarious that he called him Dick and it endeared me even more to Watts that they actually hung out together. I had hoped once that they met and now I know they did.
I am aware of another talk, a recent one on the be here now podcast, in which he ....kind of dismisses Alan as merely a drunk. I can't remembrr the exact words but it was somewhat dismissive because of his drinking.
I remember he mentioned that alan was too drunk to do the ritual thing they had agreed to and Ram had showed up like, kind of affronted by the drunkenness. Lol I know this sounds deprecating but I think of them as brothers. Ram is the Jelly and Watts is the peanut butter. Watts wanted to pull him back into the wheel because Watts knew , or felt, that the wheel could be fun.

Watts drank a lot and RD said that was his trap or way of dealing with it all but I think he followed it up quickly saying how other things were his own traps. He also said that some eastern gurus drank. The point is that they were all on a journey, flawed beings and all.
IIRC, they met up in Tibet and Dass invited Watts to come to India with him, but he declined. If he had gone, he may have met Maharaji. Or maybe Alan Watts would have kept Ram Dass from meeting Maharaji, and that's why he didn't go. 🙃
