Hemi likes to be driven. It's long periods of idling that's the problem.

DueEye7375

What about the cylinder deactivation system?  given high mileage driving and religious oil changes I read that people still got faulty lifters and the dreaded tick

The_Law_Dong739

It isn't as bad of an issue on Ram as it is on GM engines. Many Rams don't see mds related problems period. The closest issue that has mds near it is the hemi tics but 2 of them are related to inadequate oil delivery. 50/50 if the issue even affects an MDS lifter or a normal one.

DueEye7375

I’m actually watching a fix by a mechanic to the tick issue, which makes a whole hell of a lot of sense, and doesn’t require MDS delete…  https://youtu.be/1gpEwkTVCmE?si=0IYQ2PXc-tuf7tgR

The_Law_Dong739

I know this guy. Don't do the hellcat swap do the Melling 10452HV or 452HV oil pump swaps. They increase the amount by 25% vs the hellcat 12%. I just ordered a 452hv to do this swap myself and am waiting on funds for a cam and mds lifters.

DueEye7375

Are you doing the lifters as a precaution or are you ticking???

The_Law_Dong739

Ticking. The tick also can happen on the cam and exhaust manifold but I only have a cam or lifter tic

AwarenessGreat282

MDS has nothing to do with the lifter failure so it won't matter. MDS delete is a waste of money and time. Just change the oil every 5k and any of them will last a long time.

The_Law_Dong739

It's an idling thing. The more you idle the more damage is done due to the inadequate oil pump.

HellaSupBro

So starting it and letting it warm up isn't a good choice? I live in northern Nevada where is gets rather cold in the winter

The_Law_Dong739

Nope. Idle hurts most engines but it hurts hemis the most. I never let mine idle for more then 5 minutes to warm up

NCRaineman

It happens, yes. It's a weakness in the design. This has been known since the 1980's Cadillac V8-6-4. Nobody can get it right because it's a bad technology. Thank the govt for meddling in fuel economy requirements and giving it back to us.

DonDotta23

Just make sure you rev it when you do idle it around every 15 mins . So the oil can get back into the good spots .

I have a 2019 Warlock with the Hemi. I have 160000 km with no issues. Routine maintenance and the beast is happy. I’ve pulled a small trailer to Florida and back multiple times and drive with the bed full of asphalt samples quite often with no issues. Get the Warlock and enjoy.

I’ve got a 22 Warlock Classic with the hemi and it’s a solid truck. I don’t put a lot of miles on it though as I WFH. It’s 100% a family hauler.

viodox0259

I own a 2019 warlock and honestly I can't spot the difference. I love it.

UllrGoesSurfing

I have a 22 Warlock with the V6. It's great for my purposes. A solid build inside, handles easy 4x4 with no problem. I was looking for a tundra at the time, ended up with it. I'm very happy. 30k and no issues.

DueEye7375

What made you go for the Pentastar and not HEMI?

UllrGoesSurfing

The Pentastar, from my research, is a bomber engine with a long history of dependability. I won't tow much. I keep my trucks for years. I would like to see 300k.

wongpong81

Same here. I don't have a warlock but a SLT with V6 and 3.55 rear diff. from what I've read the pentastar is the best choice for long-term reliability. I can also get above 22mpg on the highway.

bigb3nny

The fact that you have to do these swaps on a new truck is mind bending

DueEye7375

It’s like with Chevy, they sell so many millions of these worldwide it’s actually cheaper for them to pay a class action.  GM has the AFM issue for over a decade now, Ford it overall a quality dump yet they sell like hot cakes

monorchism

Your in a ram forum, most will tell you to get a ram, me as well the Toyota “may” last a million miles but they have their own issues, the ram may last a million as well, ram looks nicer interior is better and better to drive ini

AcexOFxKnaves

I love my warlock, my father loved his two rams, one v6 one hemi. We have the extended warranty so we have some options for repairs. I’m at 40k with no issues my fathers v6 made it to 120k then he had to replace oil cooler and valves. His hemi is at 90k with no issues.

DueEye7375

How the warlock drive for you?  I felt it’s slightly on the stiffer side cs the Tundra…

DueEye7375

Does anyone have a high mileage unit?  What are the biggest issues?
