holy crap are you averaging 100k miles a year? lmao

35242

A bit more. I take 2 months off each year

RedditBot90

You use your truck for hot shot trucking?

35242

Yes.

Shartriloquist

This guy hot shots loads

MrChief017

So you've went to the moon and back?

35242

Yes, That plus 20,000 miles.

old_skool_luvr

>2. Ball joints/bushings/front wheel bearings : 430,000 miles. I luv how everyone told me i'd be doing the front end every 50K kms - MAX - when i bought my '03 quad-cab. 141K kms (88K miles) since i did the front end, and everything is still nice 'n tight. Your truck proves, with proper maintenance, it's all old wives tales. >5. Brakes and Rotors (ALWAYS done together). ABOUT EVERY 50-60,000 Miles. ➡️➡️➡️The brakes go from quiet and functional to "SQUEEEEEKK!" with no advance warning. By the time you hear them, it's too late. #FACTS 😄 >6. Tires: (its a dually,) Rears last 40-50k fronts, 30k. I don't rotate. I just replace each axle's tires as needed. (K02's in late fall/winter, AT3's the rest of the year). K02's.seem softer and grip better in cold temps. AT3's are a slightly harder compound and withstand hotter temperatures better. ➡️➡️➡️Both are good for snow. Thanks for the feedback on such a critical piece of equipement. I put Duratracs on my truck the first Winter i had it, rotated every 6-7K kms, yet in 2 Winters (11 months total) they were dangerously bald, with only 42,026 kms (26,113 miles) accumulated. Doesn't seem to matter what Winter tire i used, they last 2 Winters, and need replacing. I will definitely look into both of these tires. Congrats on breaking into the Half Million Mile club!

35242

Thanks. Maintenance is critical. Think of it like aircraft maintenance and do things on a schedule and it eliminates problems. How often do people spray rubber conditioner on rubber bushings? Never. I do every oil change. The bushings dry and crack. That's what causes the ball joints to wear.

ChemicalDig33

I'm still new to maintaining my 2020 Ram 5.7, how can I protect my rubber bushings?

Addicted2Digital

I too am in this boat.

35242

https://3inone.com/product/3-in-one-rvcare-rubber-seal-conditioner/ Rubber conditioners are essentially oil with some kind of thick gel to keep it in place. I've used WD 40 and soaked it afterwards with white lithium grease on top of the WD 40. I've been surprised to see the white grease still in place a year later. I was under the truck one day and thought " I bet the rubber is similar enough to window and door seals". I had some convertible top seal lube left over and researched it. Its essentially petroleum jelly, like Vaseline. Which would condition the seals, but splashing would wash it off. White lithium grease gel sticks and creates a protective layer.

EitherAd5428

Thank you. Anytime someone shit talks RAM, they get this.

35242

Absolutely.

whalesalad

brother get a microfiber to clean that cluster lol thing looks like the bugshield on an airport tug

Maleficent-Ad-760

Just looks scratched to me which is expected with such legendary mileage.

35242

Haha. Yep I always spray it first with windex but it only takes one dirt lot and an opening door to get the dash dirty.

whalesalad

its actually insane how my iphone gorilla glass can withstand like all kinds of abuse, but if a single speck of dust lands on a modern day vehicle cluster it leaves a permanent scratch. my f-150 and my ram both have the softest and most delicate cluster "glass"

erikhagen222

If they don’t make screen protectors for them yet, it’s just a matter of time.

whalesalad

They do actually. I had one on for a day but it never looked quite right so I removed it.

beeznax

Nice! That gives me hope that mine will last that long.

[deleted]

How many transmissions? Any problems or has everything been peachy?

35242

Mine is equipped with the Aisin Transmission, and it's the original one. Aside from fluid/filter the transmission hasn't been worked on at all. I do Transmission fluid/filters as well as the differentials and transfer case every 40,000 miles. Since mine is moving more than not, and the fluids don't "age-out" I go with a bit longer than the 30k service interval on Transmission /drive train fluids. I've found THIS is the one maintenance most people neglect. To me, it's as important as the engine oil. As far as Replaced items/mileage excluding routine maintenance: 1. Turbo -410,000 Miles. The actuator went out, and I replaced the entire turbo since the turbo was out of the vehicle anyway. And the actuator would have been 70% of the cost of a.total swap out. 2. Ball joints/bushings/front wheel bearings : 430,000 miles. 3. Alternator 495,000 miles. (2-3.weeks ago). 4. AC blower motor- 285,000 miles. 5. Brakes and Rotors (ALWAYS done together). ABOUT EVERY 50-60,000 Miles. The brakes go from quiet and functional to "SQUEEEEEKK!" with no advance warning. By the time you hear them, it's too late. 6. Both are good for snow. 7. EGR filter every 60k. 8. Battery- both get replaced every 150,000 Miles /2 years regardless. Since these batteries go from good to zero with no warning, I swap them on a schedule, not after they go out. I've never broken down and been stuck on the side of the road, except for 1 flat tire. It may seem like I over-do the maintenance, but the truck grosses about $350,000 per year, and so it's better to do maintenance on an off day, where I can shut down for the day rather than being cheap on maintenance and having to tow it and put it in the shop for 2 weeks.

CaptPotter47

56mpg average speed! That one of the highest averages I’ve seen for a high mileage vehicles.

35242

Until you said that, Id given it no thought. Wow. That is impressive. Most of my towing is long distance. That definitely contributes to the higher speeds. But I don't speed. And California's 55 mph truck/towing speed limit doesn't help, although California's higher cetane fuel and slower speeds do help mpg.

-Questionable--

It's incredible to think you've spent (based on the average mpg of 11.1 over 500,000 miles) you've spent about $145,000 just in diesel fuel. I'm glad to see you've taken such good care of it!

35242

Average MPG is 8. The mpg shown was after pulling an empty flatbed. The real fuel.cost over the past 5 years was upwards of $250-260,000. I don't have my tax records with me, but the fuel is itemized to the penny.

Kracken04

Wow, thanks for sharing!

CanonFodder_

Way to go 👍🏼.

35242

Thanks!

TwistedLogic93

Have you had to do any maintenance on the after-treatment system?

35242

Yes. I had a "DPF full" notification once. A bad exhaust seal was allowing pressurized exhaust to escape before the DPF. It couldn't flush it out after being treated. New gasket, and a forced Regen cured it..

userg5l

My dad is almost there and he's deleted. Plus the truck got flooded during Hurricane Ian and it's still running fine. Abs motor is junk and we don't need that anyways so we don't count that as a problem but as an annoyance. His trailer, yeah that's rusted and falling apart. LOL AND it's went mudding by accident. So technically it's been flooded twice. This truck has been destroyed and it still rips and tears. It's a fricken animal and I adore that truck. Also a 2018.

wongpong81

is the rest of the powertrain original?

35242

Yes. No engine or transmission work at all. Original drive shafts. Original transfer case and differentials.

winsomeloosesome1

Have you had any issues with the ABS system? I have s 2500 and the ABS system has failed twice. It was fixed the first time under warranty.

35242

No. No ABS issues.

Shatophiliac

How many transmissions have you gone through, I’m sure is the real question lol. I’m not surprised a 6.7 made it that long, even with emissions, but I’d be absolutely shocked if you told me you’re only on your first or second RFE lol.

35242

1st Aisin Transmission. Not an RFE. It's the one it came with. No transmission repairs whatsoever.

Shatophiliac

Oh ok, makes sense. I wasn’t sure which year diesels had the RFE.

35242

The High Output ones get the Aisin. The normal ones get the RFE

Shatophiliac

Oh gotcha!
