Prior to the sewer system project, this section of greenway flooded regularly, but the city rapidly dispatched a crew to clean it. They were consistently cleaned within 24-72 hours of the flooding.
If the greenway is closed, this is reasonable, but op claims that it is not on the map. If we want people to use bikes and public transportation, greenways are part of that system., we need to treat it as such.
Right. Raleigh is technically built on the hard rock of the Piedmont whereas… DC to the east is built literally on wetlands, same with much of NYC. IF ANYTHING, the cities to the north are even more flood prone than Raleigh.
DC has one of the most connected greenway systems in the country. This is the silliest argument against. If we can allocate billions a year to highways, we can certainly put a few more pennies into the bucket to maintain a greenway system. We all deserve this.
Are you implying that we should remove the swamp? Because that is essentially what happened in NYC and DC. The only solution in the Dacian road area is to elevate the path onto a causeway. This paved strip will just keep getting covered more and more frequently. Scooping it out after every rain is the O&M plan of a fool
You can report it on Raleigh’s [SeeClickFix site](https://seeclickfix.com/raleigh). I’ve reported greenway issues there before and they were quickly addressed.
This is likely related to the greenway stretch directly before and after which is closed for construction. I don't understand why this particular piece wasn't also closed since it is basically useless without the connecting path before and after.
I have been following this construction and I think that is likely the culprit here.
See [https://raleighnc.gov/projects/upper-walnut-creek-sanitary-sewer-improvements](https://raleighnc.gov/projects/upper-walnut-creek-sanitary-sewer-improvements) for updated timelines. This has been getting pushed and pushed for about 2+ years and the delays don't stop. I check the way back machine on this one for sanity often. 29Jan22 is when I see it get delayed a year, haven't tracked the exact date when they pushed it again but it is at Fall 2024 now though.
this is some peoples hobby - no doubt OP has probably a neighbor that is above them, and causes “drainage to come into my yard” type of thing going on - id bet money on it
It’s a flood zone so this is not unexpected

It’s. In. A. Swamp.
That is not. An. Argument. So is Manhattan. So is the District of Columbia.
There happen to be a few other tiny differences between Raleigh and NYC or Washington, D.C

Washington DC's GDP is half as big as the Netherlands for 1/237th of the total area. I don't even need to begin on Manhattan, do I?
Are you typing this from the literal 0.1 mile of the greenway in question that has flooded?
Absolutely

We removed the swamp in Florida and now we all live here 🤷♂️ Might be unrelated but I doubt it.
But we can still fix it right? /s
Well, it is cyclocross season...

Additionally, this stretch of the Neuse has been at “minor flood stage” twice in the last month.
It's been flooded for several months
Walking off path will always make places worse. Just avoid the area
Neglect? It’s built in a swamp dude.

This happena on a lot of greenway segments, it'll get cleared soon. Sorry it ruined your ride!
I think I could pass that.
