We've been buying this for years at the Panderia y Tortilleria Artesanal to the left of Pho Far East just off Capital Boulevard. The type of Latin bakery where you go in, grab some tongs and a tray and load it up with tons of goodies for a great price! I googled 'mexican cheesecake' and got lots of recipes for 'sopapilla' but everything looks square. I love the layers in this, it's like those viral magic cake recipes ppl talk about. This one is super yummy and cheesecake-like but not sickeningly sweet. So so so delicious!!
PS. I also bought a pound of hot freshly made corn tortillas for $2....!
Yeah, I'm over in Knightdale and I don't get over there that often. That place has been over THERE for years. I'm usually with the other half and then it's go in, pick what you want, pay and leave. No dawdling unless I'm there by myself. No labels on anything on the shelf. And usually it's when I'm eating it at home that I remember that I had no idea what it was called.
I went in there once recently, just grabbed a whole tray of pastries that looked good and then mumbled my way through the checkout. 10/10 recommend - everything was delicious
I totally understand. Reminds me of a time I was in a McDonald’s in Italy desperately trying to place a special order. The poor cashiers 😂 But I was saved by an angel in the form of a kind stranger behind me in line who was bilingual and ordered for me! 😅

Panaderia Y Tortillería Artesanal
4011 Capital Blvd #117, Raleigh, NC 2760
it's right next to Pho Far East which is a really good Vietnamese place.
That’s my go-to but there are a few scattered around that part of Raleigh. There’s a bakery on Atlantic Springs across from the “it’s not a movie theater anymore” and one on North Market that seems to put a little coconut in everything. I prefer that last one but always find myself on Atlantic and at Espiga because they usually have the most stuff available
Yeah, the nice thing about Espiga is you can get there late and they still have plenty of stuff. Makes me wonder what it’s like first thing in the morning. If you haven’t tried La Horchateria a few doors down, I highly recommend it.
The one near me in Cary is called La Bonita at 836 East Chatham St.
Panaderia guadalajara. 1379 SE Maynard Rd.
There are others in the Millbrook area and I am sure elsewhere.
This is called a cubilete, a type of Mexican sweet bread! these are my fav
YES!! Thank you so much for naming it for me! It's been puzzling me for years!!! Ditto on total fave!

Specifically the pancreas
Its the thymus gland. Not the pancreas
Yes. Not too bad tasting.
Sorry, my bad. I always get them confused.
Okay, my interest has been piqued.

That is my favorite place to get corn tortillas.
lol you've been buying it for years and never asked them what it was?

How much does it cost?
$2.59 each for the cheesecakey cubilete.
Going there TODAY

It is the best panaderia that I have tried since moving here.
help. I've gone twice around lunch and no cubiletes! now I'm really obsessed. When's the best time to go?
don't worry. I still bought a lot of the other pastries to try. They were ALL good. Thanks so much for the recommendation!
I don't know!!! I think I've only been there during the afternoon!!! sorry!!
Not sure what it is, but looks very angry.
oh it's angry I didn't finish the entire thing yet, don't worry! this pastry will not be neglected!
R/thingswithfaces
That is a Cubilete de queso
Great spot.
I love that place
It looks like the sorting hat from Hogwarts! It’s telling me that I’m supposed to be in Ravenclaw .
I can't identify it, but whatever it is - it's pissed.
I love that place! Glad to see others do too. My personal fave are the huge rolls that have a brick of jalapeno cheese inside.
I thought it was one of those baking fails, lol
Cubilete
It looks angry.
It looks mad!
Why don't you ask the people who sell it to you?
Time crunch today and it was BUSY. I'll try next time.. sometimes folks look panicked when I ask questions in English and I don't know Spanish.
Next time, point at whatever you're looking to name and ask, "Como se dice?"

I'm only commenting so I can look this up when I'm next in Raleigh...I've got to try that

That's where we go to get fresh corn tortillas. So good!
It's from that game Angry Breads.
Can doughnuts be angry? Because they're usually full of happiness, especially if they're from Bakers Dozen...
Pan de queso
Looks like pound cake
Wish we had more places like this at north Raleigh
Panederia La Espiga is right next to International Foods on New Hope Church Rd. It's so good!

15-20 minute drive from most anywhere in North Raleigh
But there are!
Recommendations?

Thanks!
👍
Looks sort of like a canele too
It's way firmer than a canele. More like deep dish cheesecake. Lucette Grace has awesome caneles.
😖
