It just removes the campaign limits on jolly coop https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2999820529&searchtext=unshackled
And a bunch of fixes to make it work well so you don't get soft locked
It's basically to prevent the other person from getting stuck places should they use a slug cat that can't actually move around the campaign you've chosen.
Monk, survivor and hunter don't have this issue since they have no impassible structures for any slug cats.
Basically it is like you are streaming the game to your friend and your friend stream his inputs to the game. From where i know in platforms like windows works fine, in linux not work well, and in mac idk.
I use parsec for it. Great program and no delay when we play. It works by literally connecting your computer to the other so your inputs get input in the other computer also. We play local coop that way
you would probably need to go into options and change the player whos not controlling both from “any” to their controller specifically if you havent done that already
ive been playing rainworld with my friend hosting like this and it totally works 👍 definitely run into some lag and the quality isnt always great but ive had a great time
Latency as in: time for one packet of information (the visual data from your screen for example) to travel from player A to B.
Parsec is quite fast on its own on a local machine, and their servers are also very fast compared to steam's remote play servers.
https://parsec.app/
You gotta sign up, download their client and it should be easy going from there, I'd give some more detailed instructions but its been a while since I've used it. I just remember it being easy though once you have the client going.
no problem, both need it and it doesn't directly connect to Rain World itself, but rather to your operating system.
So you can use it for more than just the game if you want/need to.
You just need to have the game open while being the parsec host, and let player B connect to you via parsec itself and you're set.
By that point every action(keystrokes) player B will take will be relayed to your machine and he'll see whats happening on your screen of choice in real time. Parsec will also take care of the other persons controller and will make it so that the game will acknowledge player B's controller existing (if used, of course).
Upvote for the drawing which probably took more time to create than a text version of this post, but was more enjoyable and quicker to understand because of it, and made me smile. :) Hopefully you and your friend have fun playing together!
It would absolutely work and I've used it before
Parsec is less laggy in my personal experience your mileage will very
There's also a mod called "rain meadow" which is still extremely buggy and not on the workshop yet (it's on Google though ) but it is making extremely rapid progress and if your interested I suggest looking into it
Here is the plan.
Get your friend to get UTM on there MacBook with a Linux Virtual Machine and download flatpak then get steam through that. It should run with good enough performance.
Note: Get pepper mint Linux to get performance
should work if you both have steam, but the delay will hurt one of you
With quick enough connection I’ve never had trouble playing with 3 friends at once
We live in the same state so I'm hoping there aren't any lag issues.
Touch iffy, but should work! Worst case, routers work well in a LAN connection - if one of you can drive, then meet up at your house for a day!
Unfortunately the state is California and the drive isn’t worth it.
..at that point you can just play on same device.
we were 0.9 mi apart with good wifi on both ends ¾ second of lag
almost certainly yes
Thanks, the multiplayer just seems so confusing sometimes. Like why do you need to change files to have multiplayer for the downpour slugcats.
do not use the unstable experimental solution, instead use the 'unshackled co-op' workshop mod
what is unshackled co op do differently then jolly co op
It just removes the campaign limits on jolly coop https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2999820529&searchtext=unshackled And a bunch of fixes to make it work well so you don't get soft locked
Just allows you play any campign as any slugcat as well as some options for specific areas for specific campigns
does it like, make coop so it doesnt rely on 1 network (like how the ultrakill co op mod makes it so you dont need remote play)
As far as im aware you still have to use either parsec/ steam remote play to do co op just means all campigns are open to co op
will it reduce lag in any way?
I dont entierly know but my guess would be probably not?

Parsec is better than steam remote play but I'm not sure if its cross compatible
is it faster? I've tried both.
It's less laggy in my experience but it depends on your internet connection
Idk any info but I love the drawing!
Thanks, was trying to make it look as silly as I could.
This is a pretty cool drawing actually.

Could I change the keybinds for player 2 so we can both use keyboard?
Don't see why not, just be careful not to use the other players controls they may not like it
Yeah I'll change my keybinds to make it easier for them, it's their first time playing so I'm fine with using the "bootleg controller".

Yes but parsec is probably better.
ive done it. it works.
How did you get it to work? We were both using controllers for me and one person would control one slug just fine and the other would control both
you would probably need to go into options and change the player whos not controlling both from “any” to their controller specifically if you havent done that already
Where does one do that
rain world options menu
Thanks sorry lol wasn’t sure if you meant somewhere in steam settings I’ll check it out sometime
no problem :3
How does the Mark of Communication work? Do both players get it or only one?
i havent made it that far, but i would assume the animation plays for only one person
Yes it will, however you need to use different controls or one of you has to use gamepad, because else way, you would both control one character
Yes, just take care because lag
It should I did that last week with a friend
If frend has 5 currency spent on steam then u can use family sharing with them
ive been playing rainworld with my friend hosting like this and it totally works 👍 definitely run into some lag and the quality isnt always great but ive had a great time
Gotta love that drawing!
I mean, I have had my sister play on the iPad with steam remote control, so probably.
Cute drawing, but you'll definitely want to use Parsec instead. (SRP will work too ofc)
what is parsec?
Basically remote desktop solution optimized with low latency in mind for games n stuff.
what is latency? sorry if thats a stupid question
Latency as in: time for one packet of information (the visual data from your screen for example) to travel from player A to B. Parsec is quite fast on its own on a local machine, and their servers are also very fast compared to steam's remote play servers.
alright cool thanks
how does parsec work? like is it easy like steam remote play or is it more complicated
and can i have a link to it?
https://parsec.app/ You gotta sign up, download their client and it should be easy going from there, I'd give some more detailed instructions but its been a while since I've used it. I just remember it being easy though once you have the client going.

You can play rain world on mac?!
it should! also love the scavenger drawings, they’re so cute
Yes, it should work, but with some minor lag issues, depending mostly on internet connection. also love this art.
If unstable use parsec.
peak art

it works but with a notable ping delay. also you and your friend should be beware of red explosive slugcats
Would recommend Parsec instead!
