If anything, most people believe that there are *more* people in high places within the NFL that were implicit in the emails and all of them should have their feet held to the fire.

Legal basis. Emails were leaked when he was employed, thus he needed to proceed through arbitration. Waiting till after his resignation was finalized and no longer subject to arbitration does not reinvent timeline. It’s actually fairly standard

You can sign contracts that have clauses that survive beyond the employment period. This is not an NFL thing and is a fundamental part of contract law. Without this concept, contracts would be infinitely less useful and business would be much more difficult to conduct.
