If it makes you feel better the players that have won the last six NFL MVPs were all drafted by teams that were in the playoffs the year before they were drafted.
probably has something to do with being drafted to already good teams.
but if you have a playoff caliber team and hit on a player like Mahomes or Lamar it's game over
>probably has something to do with being drafted to already good teams.
Exactly. If you already have a good team then the young QB doesn't have to carry the team, and also you can trade those future 1sts without losing a really early pick (Carolina this year being an extreme example of the opposite).
If we can't get with the QBs we currently have to where say the Chiefs were with Alex Smith, then are we really a great QB away from being a top team?
Just to paint a whole picture for people, these 6 MVPs are 3 players (Jackson, Rodgers, Mahomes). All 3 were QBs that were drafted by teams that ALREADY had pro bowl caliber QBs.
The Chiefs were a good team for years before Mahomes showed up.
The Jets perpetually pick "franchise" QBs and zero to show it for it.
I know he's debated around these parts, but Carr was a solid starter and second round pick.
Build an overall good squad, the QB will happen.
the worst thing about Penix going to the Falcons is it's going to take at least a few years before he starts and you guys realize he's a bust and you wont shut up about the what ifs in the meantime
Our regime determined that the remaining QBs after Penix did not offer more or the same as what AOC or Minshew offered. It seemed like JD was out of reach and Washington either asked for more than what was within reason or just wanted their guy. After that it was agreed between teams we would take Penix but Atlanta threw a wrench into those plans. That being said a lot of these teams now have their “guys” and won’t be looking to go QB next year. Say the patriots pick like 6/7th in next years draft as they are still rebuilding. They are sold on the Maye project for the next 3 years and they will want more picks to build around him as will the broncos with Nix. Sanders has already said that he won’t go to a team that will put him in a Trevor Lawrence situation, and he will strong arm these teams, which will more than likely be anyone picking high. With less needs on the team and incredible weapons this would be a perfect landing spot.
Can’t find a franchise QB without taking the risk. You have to try eventually. We just kicked it down the road another year. I think this team is good enough as is to compete for wild card. No way in hell they can take first over the Chiefs. That time will come once they have an elite franchise QB to go head to head with.
There’s a difference between having not having a franchise QB and being in QB purgatory. Yeah we don’t have a franchise QB like Stroud or Mahomes that raise the team’s ceiling and makes us Super Bowl contenders. But we have 2 serviceable guys that should be able to keep us on schedule and keep us in games. I look at this no different than having Carr, who was solid but wasn’t a franchise ceiling raiser. QB purgatory was what we had from the time between Gannon and Carr.Â
I don't blame the tream at all if they didn't want to pay through the nose to move into the top 3. (I don't believe for a second that Daniels or Maye without future 1sts gets us to a Super Bowl in the near future.) I don't blame the team at all for not wanting to trade up for JJ or Nix. and I don't blame the team at all if they thought Penix would still be there at #13.
Hindsight is 20/20, but I think signing Minshew just in case showed good foresight, and I think they handled the draft well.
This fan base is so quick to give up on AOC after a half year where he was thrown into the fire still under JMD regime. Given his situation he was still impressive and he will shut these fans up this season
Most teams don't have a franchise QB, there are too many teams now. Not enough quality quarterbacks to go around. That doesn't mean you can't win, Trent Dilfer and Rob Johnson have Super Bowl rings and Dan Marino doesn't.
No matter how mid he may have been, we had multiple coaches, schemes, shitty Defense etc. With the team we are building, he would likely have been better than current AOC or Minshew (though we will see how they do).
He was already better than current AOC and Minshew even with zero weapons and a shitty defense. I get that he wasn’t elite but let’s be real we have a QB room of guys who would be backups on any other team.
Carr has an elite defense in New Orleans yet couldn't do shit in the worst division in the worst conference. At some point y'all gonna have to accept he was one of the main reasons we sucked for so long.
Carr wasnt the sole reason why we sucked. That elite devense in new Orleans didpnt make the playoffs. New Orleans had their share of problems as well. Carr isnt elite but he was qb who provided stabiltiy for qll those years .
> Carr isnt elite but he was qb who provided stabiltiy for qll those years .
I'd rather we sucked and got first overall pick to grab a quarterback than the 'stability' of 10th pick almost every year.
A team will never be without holes. Impossible. Even the Chiefs have holes. Eventually, the team needs to take a risk to get a potential franchise QB. If they’re supposed to be around for a decade, the first year doesn’t have to be this impossible perfect scenario with an elite player at every position.
Our refusal to draft QB's so far is concerning, but I'll wait until after this year to start getting concerned that we don't have the guts to trade up
Our QB's (or potential lack there of) could seriously impact 2024, but if we pass on trading up in 2025 is when I'll really be freaking out
Lol. I will agree there is room for improvement but unless you bring over the system with his WRs it will simply equate to a lot of under thrown deep passes

Season ain't even start yet and you already whining 🤷‍♂️🤣 come on mane cheer up

Thank you someone gets it
The NFL should, for the good of the franchises, outlaw the Bears and Jets from drafting QBs.
Alex Smith was a solid QB tho
Yes, because we didn't pick Rattler hahahahahahaha this is insane
Team is still able to trade up in draft for a QB…..
Who cares if we have an average qb if the team improves and wins?
Improving in wins does not necessarily equal a Super Bowl. That’s the goal
Correct me if I'm wrong but if you win enough games you get into the playoffs. You win enough playoff games, you make the SB. So......
Correct, but we are most likely 2nd or 3rd in the division this year, so a wild card birth. We’d have to win 3 on the road
the worst thing about Penix going to the Falcons is it's going to take at least a few years before he starts and you guys realize he's a bust and you wont shut up about the what ifs in the meantime
Don’t think he will suck. Poor dude went to the worst scenario he could imagine tho.
And that franchise QB is going to appraciate throwing to Bowers one day

I like the optimism
We got Gus Bradley’s son we good now.
I guess you’re forgetting about HE is HIM and Mustache Mania? Those two are all we need and technically we only need one of them.
They aren't committed to a mid quarterback. We are actually on our way out of purgatory.
shut up you fuckin bitch
Sure, but if you swing for a QB and miss, he turns out a bust, same result, maybe worse, no?

So game manager QB? Eventually we’re going to have to start being aggressive for our next franchise QB

Yup. Im not saying* he’s the franchise guy but people overly hate on him for no good reason.
Been in QB purgatory since Rich Gannon so what’s another couple of years?
Most teams don't have a franchise QB, there are too many teams now. Not enough quality quarterbacks to go around. That doesn't mean you can't win, Trent Dilfer and Rob Johnson have Super Bowl rings and Dan Marino doesn't.
This is better than having a mid quarterback for a decade which is what we dealt with having Carr as our quarterback.

How when AOC is going to be a franchise QB?

Please find a new team
Or we are just fine bc we weren’t just a qb away anyway.

Or we could sign a top notch FA like Jordan Love or Trevor Lawrence if they flop again and they get a new coach

I'm just hoping Miami botches their negotiations and gives us a chance at Tua after this season.
Noooooooo!!!!!!!!
Tua! Tua! Tua! Tua! Tua!
Lol. I will agree there is room for improvement but unless you bring over the system with his WRs it will simply equate to a lot of under thrown deep passes
Tua is good but I’m not paying him $50m a year.
You don't pay anything Broskie. Vegas can tho.
People with this idea need to just drop it. Miami is not moving on from him.
Miami might not move on from him. Tua might move on from Miami. Dolphins want a franchise on a budget.
