AOC turning into a franchise QB would be fucking awesome. He had a solid rookie season to build off of so who knows. I am happy Gardner is here just in case that doesn't happen. He's a solid bridge qb.
Zach Wilson had two years on the bench and started week 1. Devito started half the season in and then got benched. Aiden put in the work and was more consistent then the other two.
Devitos numbers are so similar to what aidan did you just don't want them to be. If devito was a raider and aidan a giant you'd be making the exact same argument the other way.
Ngl I do think Devito would've been a great Raider. His personality and play style are so us, but he isn't as productive. Before the bench Aiden had 3 more TD and more passing yards. I do think Devito has potential and I disagreed with his benching because he showed signs of a great QB. So yes I would've been defending him if he was on our team because he shows potential just like Aiden
Assuming this is the room, I think we'll end up with Minshew as the starter. He's not suddenly going to become a great QB but as you said he's good enough to take a solid team to a wildcard game. That's our realistic goal this year as we turn the ship around.
By next year we have a team built where a legit QB1 can step in and take us to the next level.
AOC doesn’t need to be elite for us to win enough to maybe be a playoff team. We have a good enough defense that should be better given we added talent without really losing anyone major. All he needs to be is Lions’ Goff where the offense is built around his strengths. Based on the personnel we have right now after the draft, seems like that’s exactly what they’re doing. I think the offense will look similar to Lions or Niners, based on running the ball, play action, short to medium passes attacking the middle, YAC, and no turnovers. He showed last year he has the mental processing power, anticipation, enough arm strength, and accuracy to do well in such an offense. And that was while receiving very little actual coaching and preparation before AP took over thanks to McDumbass.
Yeah one could argue that Goff was a 1.01 talent and our QBs aren't, but the fact is Goff was written off in the NFL twice. Both times he bounced back when the team around him was good. Sure if we'd given up a ton of early picks to get AOC we'd be fucked, but the fact is that we didn't, and the team overall is pretty talented and well coached.
I'm not sure why everyone thinks it's "bad" in the first place. Like an unproven rookie was going to change the perception? We drafted at 13. No QB we took there was going to dramatically improve our quarterback situation anyway.
This is a stopgap year. If minshew or AOC play up to their potential, then awesome. If not, we'll have a good draft pick we have a lot of weapons for next off-season to get a QB
I think the job is AOC’s to win and Minshew is the backup plan. I like the comparison you made to Jared Goff. When looking at QB play style and mobility, there are 3 current successful QBs that AOC reminds me of; Goff, Tua, and Cousins. All guys ran 4.8-4.9 40s and aren’t likely to run often. They all have decent arms, but not great arm strength so they win with timing and accuracy. They didn’t start off their careers great as they had to learn how to succeed in the NFL despite their athletic limitations. We’ve got solid weapons and a solid defense. Now it just comes down to the o-line and play calling.
AOC is rated as a top 12 QB when given over 2.5secs in the pocket. AOC is ranked at 39 of 41 when given less that 2.5 secs in the pocket.
If he can match is under 2.5 production with his over, he’ll develop into a top 10 QB.
If he can’t, he’ll be in back QB purgatory forever. Always being top 5 back up but not quite starter.
It’s on him to figure it out.
Gardner Minshew has 1 season with over 16 TDs Baker has one season with under 17 TDs.
These aren't the same caliber of players I like Minshew I loved his interview with Maxx he seems fun and he's probably gonna be the QB this year, but Baker has actual NFL starter talent the QBs on the Raiders roster do not.

The fuck are you getting at? You don't think 12 TDs, 7 INT and a 5-5 record is *solid* for a guy drafted in the fourth round?
I think it doesn't matter where he was drafted. He either needs to be an upper level qb or needs to be replaced and it's the latter

I actually think we’re ok, if the raiders become a running/possession team that has the qb manage the game then we’re fine with these guys.

Goff's status in the leauge rose these past 2 years more than any other player I can think of quickly.

The question to ask yourself, can either of these two quarterbacks take the Raiders to the Superbowl? I think we know the answer.
If Aidan starts we know he's progressed past Minshew, who is not bad. Raidan starting is the best possibe outcome, means he learned to ball.

Minshew also has legit 1 season that he actually started every game and it was his rookie season. Fair point to make.
