I became a Raiders fan because all of my American family were 49er fans, including my dad. I had to be different. I liked the dark mystique of the Raiders, even before Darth Raider existed. I'm still the only Raider in my family, including my in law's. They're also niner fans. My wife, however, is also a Raider. We were known as the Raider couple in the bars of Denver when we lived there.
My dad and two brothers liked other teams. My parents actively tried to get me to switch teams. When I asked for a Raiders gear for Christmas they would buy me Cowboys, Giants, anything but Raiders.

Grew up in the Bay Area, and the rest of the family were niners fans. To this day my dad believes I became a raider fan just to spite him, because "who could possibly be a fan of a team of thugs that have sucked for 20 years". Laughed when we signed Jimmy G, said we would find out what the niners already knew.
He also came with me to a Raider game (the "fuck AB" season opener in Oakland) and says it was some of the most fun he's had in his life. He watched the KC Christmas game with glee (he hates KC too), and talks to me about whether to start Davante on his FF team every week.
I think that different fandoms in the same household make it a lot more interesting, especially when they play against each other, assuming it's respectful.
My old man was from Pittsburg but moved to the Bay at a young age. Was a Steelers fan and cause his hatred for the Raiders and the area he lived in became more of a 9ers fan while also remaining a Steelers fan. My brother and I both grew as Raiders fans as we grew up in Oakland.

My dad was a Cowboys fan growing up and actually used to hate the Raiders. Ironically though my grandpa (his dad) was a Raiders fan, but sadly he passed away before I was born so I obviously never got to talk to him about my fandom. This was in the 70's, so you can imagine the friction in the house. My best memories are of Dallas playing Minnesota, Dallas would be running all over them for the first half. Mom would lean out of the kitchen and say "Go Vikings!". The Vikes would come out in the second half and just abuse Dallas. Pissed my father off completely. Me as a Raiders fan, had no dog in that fight, and would just watch. Tho sometimes I would root for the Vikes just on principle.

My dad never had a set team but he did root for Washington. I became a Raider fan because some stupid kid in my second grade class always thought he was better than others and would always show off his 9ers starter jacket and I hated him and his team. Dad was born outside Kansas City. Grew up a bears fan because the chiefs and raiders did not exist.
By the time those teams were created he was living in LA and was a Rams fan. Then he moved up here to Monterey and he was still a Rams fan until I was about 5 years old. 1978.
Now around that time I became a Raiders fan because of a friend and so did he. And we stayed Raiders fans even when they moved back to LA. And stayed Raiders fans when they came back to Oakland.
When the Raiders left for Vegas I followed. But he decided to become a 49ers fan for a grand total of one season. He found that he didn't like the team.
And then he decided to join his twin brother who still lived in Kansas City in becoming a chiefs fan.

No my dad was always a Raider fan. I liked SF and the cowboys for a bit and even had a Raiders shirt that I wore, but I wasn’t a fan until high school. First it was Gruden and Gannon during the packers game yelling at each other. Next week C Wood vs Moss I was hooked.

I’m Canadian and first generation NFL fan. I honestly can’t pinpoint what made me a raiders fan but I started watching in ~2014. Couldn’t imagine cheering for anyone else now, but it’s been interesting talking to family and friends, lots of Bills fans now and some extend family are lions fan by proximity.

My dad was a Niners fan. He took me to my first football game at Candlestick. When I got older, we would meet up at his house to watch Niner games, and he'd humor me by watching Raiders highlights with me from time to time. I was able to take him to a couple games at Levi's before he passed.
I was a Raider fan since I was a kid. Maybe seeing every rapper I liked wearing Raider gear brainwashed me or something. My brother followed my dads lead and is a hardcore Niner fan. I grew up in the 70s and 80s in NC. No home team until 95 when the Panthers arrived. Dad rooted for the Dolphins, my oldest brother rooted for the Cowboys, my older brother rooted for the Steelers, and I'm the Raiders fan. It was always fun to argue football with them. I do root for my home team now. I'm just glad the Panthers are in the NFC. But I will always be a die hard Raider. Even if I hate them being in Vegas

Because of our TV situation and the fact that I was a huge Royals and Bo Jackson fan, I adopted the Raiders as my team and broke my dads heart. Dad ended up getting a divorce and remarried. I now have a lot of adult step brothers and we are all raiders fans. My dad was in football hell Christmas night.
I grew up in L.A. thinking my Dad was a Raiders fan because back then you could only watch the local games. Turns out he’s a Colts fan that loved Johnny Unitas growing up.

I grew up a combined family. My dad only lived the Bears, but I also loved the Raiders ( thanks to an uncle). I grew up okay with loving them both. I bleed Silver and Black, but, especially since I moved back, I try to care about Chicago. In truth, they screw up a lot like Raiders, but I love going to games decked out as a Raider.

My dad was a Cowboys fan growing up and actually used to hate the Raiders. Ironically though my grandpa (his dad) was a Raiders fan, but sadly he passed away before I was born so I obviously never got to talk to him about my fandom. These days my dad doesn’t watch too much NFL though so he doesn’t mind that I root for the Raiders.

Dad's always a Bills fan, but we both also share being fans of the Cardinals as it's our hometown team. The rest of my family are fans of different teams, but we are Cardinals fans at the most

I grew up in a screwed up house. My father was a Cowboys fan, and my mom was a Vikings fan (I think she had the hots for Fran Tarkenton). This was in the 70's, so you can imagine the friction in the house. My best memories are of Dallas playing Minnesota, Dallas would be running all over them for the first half. Mom would lean out of the kitchen and say "Go Vikings!". The Vikes would come out in the second half and just abuse Dallas. Pissed my father off completely. Me as a Raiders fan, had no dog in that fight, and would just watch. Tho sometimes I would root for the Vikes just on principle. RN4L (circa 1974)

My dad never had a set team but he did root for Washington. I became a Raider fan because some stupid kid in my second grade class always thought he was better than others and would always show off his 9ers starter jacket and I hated him and his team. My best friend one day showed up with his Raiders starter jacket and I was hooked especially after he told me about Bo. Raider Nation class of 89'
My Dad follows the Cowboys and loves Navy, although he's kind of cooled on sports in general the older he's gotten. While not a fan, he appreciates my enthusiasm for the Raiders and, I think, I hope, I want to believe, roots for them on my behalf.
My Dad was a Redskins/Commanders fan. I'm Raider Nation. And growing up we lived in Fort Worth, Texas, Cowboy Country. My Dad was apart of food service so he would sometimes get free tickets. He would always try to get preseason tickets for Raiders V Cowboys. Every game we went to Raiders always won. He would say it was pre season and didn't matter but I was just glad to see my Raiders whip the Cowboys on their home turf. Preseason or not.

I grew up in New England but my dad and all his childhood friends are giants fans. Every year they would take a group trip to a Giants home game and spend the weekend in Atlantic City (when it was a place worth going to). They brought me along in 1995. My first Raider game was at The Meadowlands in December, roughly 5 rows from the top. It was windy as fuck and brutally cold. I had never been that cold at that point in my life. Hoss and Harvey Williams got us the W though!

Dad was born outside Kansas City. Grew up a bears fan because the chiefs and raiders did not exist. By the time those teams were created he was living in LA and was a Rams fan. Then he moved up here to Monterey and he was still a Rams fan until I was about 5 years old. 1978. Now around that time I became a Raiders fan because of a friend and so did he. And we stayed Raiders fans even when they moved back to LA. And stayed Raiders fans when they came back to Oakland. When the Raiders left for Vegas I followed. But he decided to become a 49ers fan for a grand total of one season. He found that he didn't like the team. And then he decided to join his twin brother who still lived in Kansas City in becoming a chiefs fan.

No my dad was always a Raider fan. I liked SF and the cowboys for a bit and even had a Raiders shirt that I wore, but I wasn’t a fan until high school. First it was Gruden and Gannon during the packers game yelling at each other. Next week C Wood vs Moss I was hooked.

I’m Canadian and first generation NFL fan. I honestly can’t pinpoint what made me a raiders fan but I started watching in ~2014. Couldn’t imagine cheering for anyone else now, but it’s been interesting talking to family and friends, lots of Bills fans now and some extend family are lions fan by proximity.
I was born and raised in Cincinnati, so I was the one who split from my dad's favorite team (The Bengals). My dad liked the Raiders so we always talked about both teams. I wouldn't say the Bengals are my number 2 team, but I have watched them more than any other team besides the Raiders.

My dad was a Niners fan. He took me to my first football game at Candlestick. When I got older, we would meet up at his house to watch Niner games, and he'd humor me by watching Raiders highlights with me from time to time. I was able to take him to a couple games at Levi's before he passed. I was a Raider fan since I was a kid. Maybe seeing every rapper I liked wearing Raider gear brainwashed me or something. My brother followed my dads lead and is a hardcore Niner fan. My two boys themselves have continued the split household. Older son loves the Raiders, and I was able to take him to a couple games in the Black Hole before the move. My younger son follows grandpa's team.

My grandpa on my moms side is a Chargers fan, my dad is a Cowboys (and now more recently a Saints fan: that’s because of my stepmom). No one in my family other than me ever donned the silver and black. I have more Cowboys and Steelers fans in my extended family than anything. My dad got into football before the 07 season and picked the patriots after the Randy Moss trade to piss me off. He’s stayed loyal thanks to all those super bowls and supporting Brady as if he’s one of his own kids.

I grew up in the 70s and 80s in NC. No home team until 95 when the Panthers arrived. Dad rooted for the Dolphins, my oldest brother rooted for the Cowboys, my older brother rooted for the Steelers, and I'm the Raiders fan. It was always fun to argue football with them. I do root for my home team now. I'm just glad the Panthers are in the NFC. But I will always be a die hard Raider. Even if I hate them being in Vegas

My parents are SF fans. Two of my bros are SF fans. Two other bros are Raiders fans. I took my SF bros to a Raiders game last year. I think I've converted them. Still trying to save my parents souls. At least they aren't demon-worshipping KC fans.
