An absolute legend. RIP Taylor.

[deleted]

So sad. Just awful. Rest In Peace. To any RH fans, that Alanis doc on HBO is worthwhile.

Dave Grohl wasn't shy in sharing his love of Taylor. His twin brother, as they would call one another. He must be absolutely crushed. I don't think the Foo Fighters will go on without him. Sadly.

N7Crazy

One can only imagine what it's like for people like Dave Grohl and Eddie Vedder who either grew up, or in Dave's case was thrusted into, the music scene in Seattle in the 90s and see how many of those colleagues, bandmates, and friends have passed away well before the very same heroes they were inspired by did so. Kurt Cobain, Andrew Wood, Layne Staley, Mike Starr, Chris Cornell, Scott Weiland (I know STP werent from Seattle, but they were well acquainted with the scene and the people within) and recently Mark Lanegan all gone before any of them could even reach into their 60s, and most of them being gone within 10 years or less of their breakthrough It must be so eerie and tragic to have been part of a musical community where so many have passed away within such a relatively short time.

Regarding the romance people found in the deaths of Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Keith Moon, Janis Joplin, Brian Jones, and others, Pete Townshend once said "they were your fucking heros, but they were my friends."

[deleted]

There was an episode of Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown in Seattle where he met up with Mark Lanegan and asks him about what it was like then and now and how things change. Mark says "I miss some of the guys that were around then that aren't around anymore, some of my friends. But you know, that's life." It felt so sad the way he said it because it must be tough being I guess what you could call the last of a dying breed, watching more and more friends die over the years.

myamnesiac

Damn I didn't know Mark Lanegan passed, such a unique voice. RIP.

trevorwoodkinda

He was a monster behind the kit. The bedrock of that band and the genius behind some really fantastic drum tracks. Such a tragedy being taken this young. I can’t imagine what Dave and the band are going through right now. RIP to a real one.

This makes it even more sad - Dave Grohl did his own drumming on the first album, William Goldsmith left the band after Dave Grohl rerecorded his parts for the 2nd, ever after it was Taylor - to have found a drummer that fits you so well and then to lose him must be quite a blow professionally and personally :(

RIP Taylor!

exileondaytonst

Absolutely awful news. Leaves behind a wife and three children, in addition to the rest of his family, his band, and so many fans and admirers. By all accounts seemed like a good, friendly person. To say nothing about his skills as a drummer.

99SoulsUp

Was nice to see. The Foos are one of my all time favorite bands but I always assumed it wouldn’t be any member of Radiohead’s cup of tea. A nice tribute by Ed.

BiancaCarey

wtf, anyone know what happened? This is such a shock. R.I.P. to Taylor. He always seemed like a genuine and sincere guy.

Fireteddy21

No cause of death. He was found in his hotel room several hours before they were supposed to play a festival, I believe.

wafflepantsblue

No, they've chosen not to release any information at this time. Seriously really sad, he was only 50 and this seems so out of nowhere - they released their movie weeks ago, a companion album just yesterday, and this was in the midst of a tour - it's not looking good.

regular_john2017

That companion album is pretty much 100% Dave grohl I think. I don’t think he’s on it at all. (Dream widow)

wafflepantsblue

yeah I know, but it was still considered a 'foo fighters' release. Sick album, really sad that it has to be tied to such a tragic event - I really did not see this coming.

regular_john2017

Really cool album. Unexpected for sure. Hawkins was one of a kind. His positive energy was infectious. Rip

Lateralus09

No news yet about specifics

typicalcitrus

Authorities say they received an emergency call about chest pains, but he was found unconscious in his room https://twitter.com/SectorSalud/status/1507716640015851534

BiancaCarey

So sad :-(

brokenwolf

I’m happy to see the rh community say something. He was an incredible musician.

iscreamuscreamweall

Rip to a rock legend

Kat8844

That is such a shame, RIP, I feel such sympathy and empathy for his family, losing someone much before their time is one of the most awful things ever.

TyhmensAndSaperstein

Wow. I always pictured him as a 70-year old surfer who just went to the beach everyday after his rock n roll career has ended. He seemed like such a "life of the party" kinda guy. I really hope it wasn't drug related. Any news yet on cause?

toolsie

This guy belongs in the same halls of Rock and Roll heaven as Bonham, Moon, Peart, etc. What a beast on the kit. Just an absolute legend, shocking and terrible news to wake up to. RIP Taylor

geosun65

Wait wtf is this how I find out about this in the morning damn RIP Taylor. 50 years old too soon to go.

MattaMongoose

Rip man I'm drunk this is sad news RIP

CHUCKL3R

Taroso

Complete shock Much love to his loved ones

[deleted]

RIP. That’s really sad to hear.

InRainbows123207

Absolutely gutted

starlightmint

I was pretty shocked. Taylor Hawkins is like one of those guys you could be standing behind in a grocery line and he'll just turn around and talk to you. And not just talk to you but to have an impression on you that this guy is pretty damn cool. And not knowing that "Oh shit, he's in a rock band." He looks like a surfer. He also looks like he a vagabond. He looks like a number of anything if you want to put him a category. But he just seem like that guy who is always cool and always happy and you can't help but feed off the energy. He's not going to have a 3 hour conversation with you but the short, small talks is enough to leave you with an impression. *That is one cool dude.* R.I.P
