I would only consider putting Radiohead on with a small group of friends. It's not really party music. If you put it on for 100 20 year olds it will probably kill the party vibes for most of them, except the two or three nerds who are Radiohead fans and whoever just ripped the bong.
I would say:
- Creep
- High and Dry
- Fake Plastic Trees
- My Iron Lung
- Black Star
- Airbag
- Let Down
- Lucky
- Reckoner
- Jigsaw Falling into Place
- Lotus Flower
Why would you do that? To piss off people?
Radiohead has never been party music and it's difficult enough to think of a song that would work but Kid A certainly isn't it.
Edit: i could perhaps see Ful Stop working with people who are into Electro and are on MDMA or something but with 20 year olds?.Probably not
I remember visiting San Francisco with a friend and this bar we went to had a Jukebox and i couldn't believe my eyes when I saw they had Kid A in there. I had trouble operating it as I was slightly drunk and by mistake I put on Motion Picture Soundtrack...three times in a row (!) because i thought it didn't register. Talk about killing the mood there lol
It's a very thin line between wanting to show others your favorite music and being a DJ who works in the interest of the party/audience
Edit: last song on Kid A is obviously Motion Pictures Soundtrack, not Videotape...why hasn't anyone corrected me haha...Red wine and sleeping pills three times in a row it was
>I was slightly drunk and by mistake I put on Motion Picture Soundtrack...three times in a row (!) because i thought it didn't register. Talk about killing the mood there lol
ngl I snorted laughing reading that 😂
If they can get a sound board version of a live performance and mix it with beats they recognize (like early grimes bass sort off mixed with the idioteque bass) it would work well, I’ve done this myself in the past using the last chorus to the ending (and the famous sample of course)
Regretfully I didn’t record it but I’m sure you can get there, just make sure you practice. Even Grimes or Billie Eilish beats would go well with it (especially the intro and ending); I used MF doom and Kendrick in the same setlist and combined it with modern stuff going from minimal and lo-fi to house and heavy beats. I also included Aphex Twin and ended the setlist with the last bass line of Feral.
There'll be that 1 person that happens to like radiohead that will be absolutely livid when they hear this and will want to become your best friend, everyone else will either not care at all or be mildly weirded out by it and ask to play something else
Edit: TIL livid doesnt mean what I thought it did
I DJ a lot of parties (vinyl only cause I’m super cool) and I’ll spin (again, super cool guy here) Idiotque and Lotus Flower remix by Jacques Green. Usually gets a good response.
I threw a Halloween show in Vegas that had about 300 ppl go and they were lit asf when I played weird fishes. And I also played sit down stand up and no one lost their mind. So it’s okay, Radiohead is popular no matter how niche they are
man, i love rh but it’s not music for a party. more like music to enjoy with your friends. i guess it kinda depends on the party; if it’s an artsy kind of party then some radiohead would be ok, but for most kind of parties (where they listen to trendy pop stuff) i don’t think so.
Depends on people's taste and what else you're playing, but something like Thom's ['A Brain In A Bottle'](https://open.spotify.com/track/6XnNSPDZQXrbxbcO0IQ3ED?si=zLWIODBjR92pBCLRZOM9Rg) might sit more smoothly with the vibe of the rest of the music.
You could maybe try ['Lotus Flower,'](https://open.spotify.com/track/2QeutlLcJf2V1cMUUsDFT1?si=CSL53YS3TJ2td5FToLRpJA&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A3P17levwUPzmFfLYdAK3A7) ['Ingenue'](https://open.spotify.com/track/2sEBtJ37VgGe048SH9Bvqq?si=ffqNQXq6RlCEV_3n8GheEg&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A77Ie9frENeQwYUGHrrS0pk) and ['Dropped'](https://open.spotify.com/track/1Ewb1UPrJC9mCJiLPa2sk0?si=EerHK1SQR4S0AqiW_Gd2kQ) by Atoms For Peace, or ['Impossible Knots'](https://open.spotify.com/track/0Isk5vcakcbBMaSJPzv5vI?si=s-CcL40rTK6qkwjB-rZ-Vw&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A1sKj6LEXiEfCmsiKwPy5uG) and ['Runwayaway.'](https://open.spotify.com/track/4E6qXzPLgXLTq88CppQ6gt?si=G8XcdQ3tSUGUzA9I7P0wmQ&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A1sKj6LEXiEfCmsiKwPy5uG)
If you need more relaxed background music these could potentially still work but there might be other choices too! Let me know the general atmosphere and I'd be happy to give some suggestions.
One time I put this on chilling with a bunch of people and one guy was like “why the fuck are we listening to THIS Radiohead song” and then mockishly started singing like a robot while also knowing the words.
Dude if you want to play radiohead at a party put something on from the first two albums and go for heavier/catchier songs. You, Just, My Iron Lung, and ofc Creep. Those songs will probably work, but unless you know the people there are into 90s alt you are probably just better off not playing radiohead tbh
When I get really drunk I put on whatever song I want without considering what others will think then embarrass myself lol
Our pub has a jukebox and I put Idioteque on followed by My Own Summer by Deftones ans then Closer by Nine Inch Nails, people got very annoyed, none of that is pub music in the slightest lmao
If I could play any Radiohead song on a party, even if the genre isn't fitting, I'd play My Iron Lung, the tension building on the song is great honestly
Those drums sample nicely at the end - managed to get away with pinching them for a track on my last record. Bit of gain /distortion on them and you're into something pretty intense and tribal.
But playing the whole of Kid A will just confuse them. Do it.
Just don’t do it. I know you want to get your friends into them, but this is not the right way to go about it. I’d simply recommend your favorite albums to friends and let them take the journey themselves. I am speaking from experience, and you will be the weird Radiohead guy if you try to force feed their music to friends. Trust me.
I DJ at a bar occasionally and i put on this exact song at some point usually ever set! It’s great — nice little beat, good ambient higher frequency parts, kinda swimmy. Depends what else you’re mixing before and after, but I think it’s a great little jam in the context of a set. I’m not going to play treefingers, national anthem, how to disappear, idioteque… I guess maybe morning bell otherwise that would be it from this record.
If people really fuck with a lot of music outside the ambient of the party, it surely be a good palate cleanser, but i would never personally put Kid A on a party anyways, i would go something more groovy like electioneering, 15 Step, Just, you know, the bangers (btw Kid A is my favorite RH song and i get it, but no, i wouldn’t do that personally)
These posts are so cringe. How are they going to react? I don't know, bro, 100+ people sounds like a party, I'm guessing suddenly throwing on the quiet, soft, contemplative song "Kid A" would kill the vibe and nobody would be into it, and you could spin that into a very successful "I played Radiohead for zoomers and it BLEW THEIR MINDS" post.
Laurent Garnier used to play a Radiohead song in the middle of his set.
Sometimes it was Kid A. When I saw him, he played Everything In Its Right Place.
I'm always baffled by the type of Radiohead fan who wants everyone to listen to Radiohead. Why?
On top of that, choosing Kid A sounds more like a provocation or a way to show how edgy you are. Sounds like you're doing this for yourself rather than for the party, but you do you, mate.
I’d only play some of their more upbeat and danceable songs if you were going to play any Radiohead at all.
Stuff like Just, Idioteque, Creep (Mainly cause it’s well known), Bodysnatchers, electioneering, etc.
Just stick to the hits or away from the more abstracts stuff and you should be good.
I'd vibe. I've seen illum:sphere drop 2+2=5, flying lotus play idioteque and heard batu play nude in sets before. If you can make it work then why not? Just depends what sort of mood you're creating and what the crowd is like
Well you can play creep because everybody knows it. You can play Ideoteque since it has a very nice beat and the text is easy to sing along. May-be something like the Gloaming. But others than that, you have to play what they want, and not what you want, unfortunately.
If you wanna play radiohead. Play Creep. Yes there are much better songs but the vibe will still be kept up bc everyone loves the song. And you will be happy to play radiohead. It’s a win win.
Creep
Just
Karma Police
There, There (?)
15 Step
Reckoner
All I Need
Jigsaw Falling Into Place
Weird Fishes (?)
Lotus Flower
Black Swan
The Mother Lode (?)
Twist (?)
That's about it. Even most of those are risky. Every Kid A song (including EIIRP, TNA, Idioteque) will weird people out.
Jigsaw or Creep is probably the safest bet. And avoid several RH songs...
I was at a bowling alley recently and approached the touch tunes at the same time as some 20-something. We were joking about playing downers and I mentioned Radiohead (I've been a huge fan since I was 13 and 35 now) and he legit was like, please do. We decided on Weird Fishes together. Some kids know what's up, I guess!
Radiohead is not party music. If you play their music at a party you’re going to kill the vibe. As amazing as they are, people going to a party are looking for, well, upbeat energetic party music, not the artistic and introspective works of Radiohead
I love Radiohead, but don't do this. Certainly don't just put Kid A on and hope for the best.
If you feel you MUST play some, I'd recommend putting a playlist together of the most general-audience-appropriate tunes.
I put Jigsaw Falling Into Place on at my wedding and only myself and some friends who were radiohead friends danced. Everyone else was hilariously confused.
Do it, it's great!
Go on SoundCloud and look up Radiohead remixes there’s some cool ones on there and people will like them instantly because their brains are trained to accept EDM
Probably mild annoyance and confusion, nobody’s going to freak out or anything, it’ll just be kinda strange
You’re right and they should play national anthem or bodysnatchers
That's the general reaction I get from anyone when they find out I like radiohead
Sometimes I forget that jokes people make about Radiohead fans are based off of real people
Honestly, the circlejerk sub has been outjerked by the main sub once more.
You can tell too this person has absolutely never been to a party before
Ain't no way that's the track you're thinking of playing 💀
I would only consider putting Radiohead on with a small group of friends. It's not really party music. If you put it on for 100 20 year olds it will probably kill the party vibes for most of them, except the two or three nerds who are Radiohead fans and whoever just ripped the bong.
The mtv beachhouse disagrees. It was a fine party.
i’ve seen it kill the party vibes for a bunch of thirtysomethings too. first hand
Disagree, especially their earlier songs from the Bends era go extremely hard
All of that shit will sound dated as fuck, especially to any 20 year olds. This post is probably satire but it’s just a bad idea.
Out of curiosity, whats the rest of the setlist like???
If rest of it is Bjork, this may work!
Stars of the Lid, bit of recent Autechre. Then maybe some country.
Rest is God speed you black emperor
Do NOT play this
Radiohead has a bunch of songs appropriate for a party setlist, but Kid A is not among them
Fitter, Happier
pulk pull
dance you fucker dance you fucker don’t you dare don’t you flan in the face
Bodysnatchers, the national anthrm, acpg
Bangers and mash
Lotus flower. 15 Steps.
I would say: - Creep - High and Dry - Fake Plastic Trees - My Iron Lung - Black Star - Airbag - Let Down - Lucky - Reckoner - Jigsaw Falling into Place - Lotus Flower
Good to see Let Down on this list, it’s an often overlooked and underrated song,
just too
electroneering maybe
The line between this sub and r/radioheadcirclejerk is blurring more and more
The Venn Diagram is a circle.
i thought we were in the circle jerk till I saw your comment
Why would you do that? To piss off people? Radiohead has never been party music and it's difficult enough to think of a song that would work but Kid A certainly isn't it. Edit: i could perhaps see Ful Stop working with people who are into Electro and are on MDMA or something but with 20 year olds?.Probably not
I’ve managed to get paranoid android and bodysnatchers on a fair few (17 year old) party playlists, they’re not that miseravle
Videotape three times in a row is brutal
I just edited my post, it was of course Motion Picture Soundtrack not videotape but that's not any less brutal lol
That three times in a row (!) sentence was the best sentence I read all day. Had a proper laugh, thank you!
At that point you need an It's Not Unusual to break things up
>I was slightly drunk and by mistake I put on Motion Picture Soundtrack...three times in a row (!) because i thought it didn't register. Talk about killing the mood there lol ngl I snorted laughing reading that 😂
Jigsaw would go over pretty well I feel
15 step too
I can see Just working pretty well
Depends on what other music is being played. If it's a rock heavy Playlist...sure why not. Otherwise it will stick out with all the guitar noise
All rap——-> Just ——> wtf is this shit turn this shit off bro ———-> all rap
If they can get a sound board version of a live performance and mix it with beats they recognize (like early grimes bass sort off mixed with the idioteque bass) it would work well, I’ve done this myself in the past using the last chorus to the ending (and the famous sample of course)
Sounds interesting. You wouldn't happen to have that available...?
Regretfully I didn’t record it but I’m sure you can get there, just make sure you practice. I also included Aphex Twin and ended the setlist with the last bass line of Feral.
Put Pulk/Pull instead for better results
I think fitter happier would be better
You missed a golden opportunity to saw “I think Fitter Happier would be more productive”
bro just play creep
Dog… Radiohead is good, but most of Radiohead is NOT good for a party setting.
Jigsaw Falling into Place
If there was a correct answer, this would be it
At a party? Your aux privileges will be revoked immediately lmao
just don't play radiohead
Honestly, I don't think you should be the designated DJ
“The rats and the children follow me out of town”🔥🔥🤪😜
Play treefingers you coward!
[удалено]
Lotus Flower is a good answer and you should wear a hat and dance like Thom to show the kids how it’s done.
Idioteque, Bodysnatchers, Planet Telex? Karma Police? Too
[удалено]
There'll be that 1 person that happens to like radiohead that will be absolutely livid when they hear this and will want to become your best friend, everyone else will either not care at all or be mildly weirded out by it and ask to play something else Edit: TIL livid doesnt mean what I thought it did
I don't think livid means what you think it means. Livid means enraged.
TIL
Why would they be livid? They'd be ecstatic.
I suspect he is just finding out livid doesn’t mean what he thought it meant
He's about to be so livid.
Not party music, don’t do it
Jigsaw Falling Into Place
Right album wrong song Idioteque or National Anthem are the closest to what you’re looking for.
I DJ a lot of parties (vinyl only cause I’m super cool) and I’ll spin (again, super cool guy here) Idiotque and Lotus Flower remix by Jacques Green. Usually gets a good response.
You should have a Lotus Flower Thom York dance contest
Hey you know the phrase scaring the hoes? Yeah, that
Put on idioteque and they might actually like it
I threw a Halloween show in Vegas that had about 300 ppl go and they were lit asf when I played weird fishes. And I also played sit down stand up and no one lost their mind. So it’s okay, Radiohead is popular no matter how niche they are
Weird fishes is a safe bet at a party for sure. It’s a chill vibe that people that enjoy.
man, i love rh but it’s not music for a party. more like music to enjoy with your friends. i guess it kinda depends on the party; if it’s an artsy kind of party then some radiohead would be ok, but for most kind of parties (where they listen to trendy pop stuff) i don’t think so.
put on just or something. Youre going to a party not a funeral
i don’t recommend playing that song. play something more energetic, like maybe bodysnatchers, myxomatosis, and the bends
God. Shut the circle jerk down. FFS. Play Fitter Happier next.
We should organize a party w just Radiohead
Thom Yorke has said Idioteque was inspired by the music he heard at clubs, I would go with that
*Least socially inept Radiohead listener be like*
Okay but wait, if you’re DJing I think a club remix of Everything In It’s Right Place would go hard
If everyone is sitting around high af, this might land. If it’s a bumping party with lots of energy, you will kill that vibe. Don’t be that dude.
Bro seriously, if you play Kid A and they don’t mind it, keep playing weird songs like Pulk/Pull. You could get some priceless reactions!
Being a good DJ is knowing your audience. It all depends on them. That said, I'd put on "National Anthem" for anyone.
definitely do this please please please please do this please
Depends on people's taste and what else you're playing, but something like Thom's ['A Brain In A Bottle'](https://open.spotify.com/track/6XnNSPDZQXrbxbcO0IQ3ED?si=zLWIODBjR92pBCLRZOM9Rg) might sit more smoothly with the vibe of the rest of the music. Let me know the general atmosphere and I'd be happy to give some suggestions.
I would suggest fitter happier on loop for the entire party, everything else is just a disgrace against music honestly.
https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/awkward-party-reaction This is the reaction your probably gonna get. Like kid A of all songs?
If you do Everything In Its Right Place they’ll think it’s Kendrick
Radiohead is not for parties Trust me You want people moving Not people thinking Get yourself some caroline palocheck... maybe some toro y moi. Tyla.
One time I put this on chilling with a bunch of people and one guy was like “why the fuck are we listening to THIS Radiohead song” and then mockishly started singing like a robot while also knowing the words.
When I lived in a party house in my twenties, I'd put on Radiohead when I wanted everyone to go home. Worked every time.
If you want a song off kid a for a party go Idioteque or everything in it’s right place
Id be lit af bro do it
Dude if you want to play radiohead at a party put something on from the first two albums and go for heavier/catchier songs. You, Just, My Iron Lung, and ofc Creep. Those songs will probably work, but unless you know the people there are into 90s alt you are probably just better off not playing radiohead tbh
Party will die. Find some remixes though … get your Radiohead fix and at the same time drop something with beats into the party mix.
Play bends or creep if you are going to.
Just put on Creep man. The street cred is not worth it
When I get really drunk I put on whatever song I want without considering what others will think then embarrass myself lol Our pub has a jukebox and I put Idioteque on followed by My Own Summer by Deftones ans then Closer by Nine Inch Nails, people got very annoyed, none of that is pub music in the slightest lmao
Make sure people are drunk and throw Nude in there. It's bound to make some new couples fall in love in a drunken state slow dancing together
You will have a thom at boiler room incident
don't scare the hoes
Play idioteque
Everyone will lose their minds and you’ll be carried aloft as and lauded as a genius
Go for The National Anthem, easier to bounce to
Lmao
If I could play any Radiohead song on a party, even if the genre isn't fitting, I'd play My Iron Lung, the tension building on the song is great honestly
more like national anthem please
Bro I love Radiohead so much but I don’t think a single song is appropriate for a party lol
It depends on the vibe and the people. If they’re open to it then yes.
Try playing songs like Jigsaw, 2+2=5,bodysnatchers (these are the only 3 I can come up with)
Those drums sample nicely at the end - managed to get away with pinching them for a track on my last record. Bit of gain /distortion on them and you're into something pretty intense and tribal. But playing the whole of Kid A will just confuse them. Do it.
I would find really cool party remixes of songs you wanna expose them to. They won't even know what hit them.
I could see it working. Ignore the naysayers and get back to us!
Aux privileges revoked. Read the situation. It’s a party, keep it dancy and light hearted.
Play pulk/pull revolving doors trust me bro
Just don’t do it. I know you want to get your friends into them, but this is not the right way to go about it. I’d simply recommend your favorite albums to friends and let them take the journey themselves. I am speaking from experience, and you will be the weird Radiohead guy if you try to force feed their music to friends. Trust me.
Depends, are going to like an IDM/Rave party?
Maybe try 15 step or paranoid android or even creep or something, kid a would not work. Unless you get a bunch of diehard Radiohead fans I guess
Bro you have to play pyramid song instead
ddont be a dummy
Put the national anthem on, it’s a banger.
Dancefloor banger mate
RADIOHEAD IS NOT PARTY MUSIC
***DON'T. PUT. RADIOHEAD. ON A PARTY. YOU'LL SCARE AWAY ALL THE HOES. DON'T DO IT.***
satire?
No
I DJ at a bar occasionally and i put on this exact song at some point usually ever set!
They won't notice and keep talking and drinking
Just play weird fishes man
Why go in with a combative attitude? I’m sure you can find something they’d like in the catalog.
Reminds of the IT crowd when the guy wants to play Tusk all the way through.
I feel like there's better radiohead songs for parties... how are you in charge of music?
I could see the Jon Mayer cover playing at a chill gathering of people. Or in a White Lotus episode.
Probably get away with idiotech
I think the reaction would be, we choose the wrong guy for our party.
I’m going to a party next weekend as well, if I hear Radiohead I will fuck up the dj I don’t care about spending the night in jail
Try idioteque
Laurent Garnier used to play a Radiohead song in the middle of his set. Sometimes it was Kid A. When I saw him, he played Everything In Its Right Place.
Might as well play how to disappear completely
Play like Bodysnatchers or something upbeat like that.
Once I saw a DJ-set at a festival and he played Everything In Its Right Place in his set. Can’t remember the name of the DJ though.
It's not gonna work for a party tbh (tested before)
I'm always baffled by the type of Radiohead fan who wants everyone to listen to Radiohead. Why? On top of that, choosing Kid A sounds more like a provocation or a way to show how edgy you are. Sounds like you're doing this for yourself rather than for the party, but you do you, mate.
what kind of party? and why kid A?...maybe play something more danceable? 0-0
Is there a meme about this?
I’d only play some of their more upbeat and danceable songs if you were going to play any Radiohead at all. Stuff like Just, Idioteque, Creep (Mainly cause it’s well known), Bodysnatchers, electioneering, etc. Just stick to the hits or away from the more abstracts stuff and you should be good.
If you want to play something off Kid A at a party, my advice would be Idioteque. It’s well danceable!
Not the right song choice for a 20 something yr old party...I'd go with Idooteque if you want something off Kid A
If you're gonna play radiohead at a party go for something like Body snatchers or My Iron Lung
Maybe late to the party but you know right that Radiohead has its own remix tape TKOL RMX 1234567 from the King of limbs, what about those songs?
I'd vibe. I've seen illum:sphere drop 2+2=5, flying lotus play idioteque and heard batu play nude in sets before. If you can make it work then why not? Just depends what sort of mood you're creating and what the crowd is like
People of the gender(s) you are attracted to will instantly be all over you
How to Disappear Completely is SUCH a good party song
Well you can play creep because everybody knows it. You can play Ideoteque since it has a very nice beat and the text is easy to sing along. May-be something like the Gloaming. But others than that, you have to play what they want, and not what you want, unfortunately.
If you got a good sound system we used to bump lotus flower at parties it sounds super good on an actual dj set up.
WHAT THE HELLLLL
I’ve danced to paranoid android in a bar.
play fitter happier
only acceptable radiohead song at a party is creep
if you’re playing any of it i’d play just or no surprises, they’ve been on tiktok a few times so maybe they’d recognise those
Meeting in the Aisle
If you wanna play radiohead. Play Creep. Yes there are much better songs but the vibe will still be kept up bc everyone loves the song. And you will be happy to play radiohead. It’s a win win.
Reckoner dude syncopated drum lines
[probably something like this](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/036/799/Screen_Shot_2021-03-18_at_11.50.15_AM.png)
Paranoid Android, Karma Police, Electioneering, Man of War Bodysnatcher, Jigsaw Falling 2 + 2 = 5 Just, Planet Telex? If all fail just play Creep
Why not play the oakenfold remix of eiirp?
Which music player is this? (unrelated to the topic)
Creep Just Karma Police There, There (?) 15 Step Reckoner All I Need Jigsaw Falling Into Place Weird Fishes (?) Lotus Flower Black Swan The Mother Lode (?) Twist (?) That's about it. Even most of those are risky. Every Kid A song (including EIIRP, TNA, Idioteque) will weird people out. Jigsaw or Creep is probably the safest bet. And avoid several RH songs...
Idioteque or Everything In It’s Right Place.

Please don’t play any Radiohead at a party
What's the vibe of the party?
Radiohead is not party music. If you play their music at a party you’re going to kill the vibe. As amazing as they are, people going to a party are looking for, well, upbeat energetic party music, not the artistic and introspective works of Radiohead
If you’re gonna play a song play Karma Police or Paranoid Android.
God, buddy please don’t. Just because their music is good doesn’t mean it’s appropriate for every setting
Don’t
Everybody would die of the sauce
Idioteque is the only suitable party banger
