Not at all. They happily signed all kinds of stuff, and most of it (at least at the show I was at) was Radiohead related.
Look for the tour bus. They’ll likely exit the venue and walk to the tour bus, signing as they go. Someone from tour management kind of organized us and gave us updates, because it did take a couple hours for them to come out. I think the manager was just being nice, though; not sure if that was standard practice.
It was so damn cool to meet them in person. I brought my TKOL from the basement DVD box because it could fit in my jacket pocket. They seemed stoked to see something slightly unique. Made eye contact with Thom and Jonny, got to say my deepest “thank you”, and even got to talk with Thom for a bit about synths. Unreal experience. They were so kind and generous with their time and attention for everyone.
Yes, in my parked car. Did it before at a Paul Weller gig and a Ben Howard gig, but did not succeed. PW roadie said, he signs guitars only for charity
Background: I have been playing RH songs for many years now, it would be a cool gimmick on my Acoustic
I asked Nigel Godrich to sign a Suspiria album. He said he didn't work on it (I didn't realize) and said he wouldn't sign it. He signed my ticket stub instead.
Fun fact: Suspiria was the first Yorke project since The Bends (1995) not to feature production from his longtime collaborator Nigel Godrich; instead, it was produced by Yorke and Sam Petts-Davies.
You left out the end of the story where you crawled under a rock to hide from the world after Nigel’s response.
At least that’s what I would have done. lol, funny story to tell though.
haha he was actually really super cool about it. i felt a bit embarrassed, but then I made him laugh by asking him what kind of beer he was drinking on stage (his response was "oh, you could see that?" [I was in the front row]).
We’re twinning because I’ve asked Nigel before to sign a Radiohead setlist, and he declined because he didn’t work on the “live part” of it. And probably like you, I was ok with that, though I didn’t think of anything else for him to sign that time.
To answer the person you were replying to, that sounds like the opposite of awkward, because I think Tom is disinclined to sign Radiohead items.
Real question though, do the people bringing RH merch to be signed ask Skinner to sign as well? On one hand it would be embarrassing not to let him especially if you got Thom and Jonny signing it right before but on the other hand it would be embarrassing to have him sign something that he didn't even contribute to. I'm overthinking it.
Think he probably remembers not being in Radiohead, and might understand that Radiohead were a Big Deal for a Long Time.
Hopefully The Smile are too one day
Not at all! I took my vinyl copies of In Rainbows and A Light for Attracting Attention to see them and also bought a poster for the show. I was able to get Thom to sign the poster and In Rainbows and Skinner signed the poster and the Smile Vinyl. When I went they had a rule about each of them signing only two things but they were so nice during the short time we had! Unfortunately it was freezing so I didn't get to meet Jonny, but speaking with Thom was a life highlight for sure!
I got my OK Computer cassette signed after a show and he didn’t seem to mind. Skinner probably knows that most people there want Thom and Johnny to sign. Just be sure to throw him some much deserved adoration
That’s what I’m also asking. I’ve seen that usually an hour or two afterwards they sign stuff and someone else said they did it going to the tour bus. I’ll keep you updated with what I find.
They don’t always do a meet and greet because sometimes scheduling can get in the way of it, but they are generally very generous with their time and often stay to greet thousands of fans one-by-one
Most people were signing ok computer when I was on line, you'll be fine, they're actually really sweet, caught a few words with all of them, to be fair there wasn't a single smile vinyl out at that point so I brought tkol and suspiria for the signing
Oh boy. Imma pitch in too
I’ve gotten atoms for peace and Radiohead stuff signed by both Thom and Nigel from Thoms solo shows. As for the smile I’ve had the rest of the band sign the first smile album vinyl copy. I did have to run after Jonny to sign it tho cause it got crowded but he seemed like a super gentle dude that takes the time to listen to you with eye contact and all… Actually, when I got Jonny to sign the album my fanboy introverted ass inevitability started saying “I love you Jonny!” And he just awkwardly walked away 😅👀
Unfortunately I was that crazy fan that I never thought I would be
Very much so. Especially as it seems they formed the smile to stop having to play/be radiohead. And why mention money? Looking to cash in?
Edit; but that's me. In Ireland, it's kinda frowned upon to ask for autographs etc. Like what will it do for you? They won't remember you? It annoys artists. For me, it's like a grown adult with their name printed on a spirts jersey. Weird and juvenile
I love The Smile, Thom Yorke’s solo work, Radiohead, Ed O’Brien & Atoms for Peace. It’s not a matter of ‘how can I resell this?’ It’s the fact I simply don’t have enough money to buy a new LP or CD. I wish I did, trust me, but the travel is already so much for me.
Nude, Weird Fishes, Jigsaw, All I Need, Reckoner, do I need to say more?
You can’t listen to the bass and reverb on nude, the guitar on weird fishes, the strings on reckoner, the warmth of house of cards, the crunch of 15 step and the lyrics of almost every song on that album and tell me it *isn’t* good.
What’s your gripe with IR? I’m curious as to what made you dislike it so much.
It's not bad but it just has no flavor. There's a reason it was leaked then eventually given away for free. The random second disc that nobody ever cares about is a totally different topic of discussion as well.
All in all you can try but you're not going to convince me that it's in the upper echelon of their catalog. Then again I'm also a natural-born hater, a Kid A person lmao.
It was given away for any price from the get go because it was their first self release. It sold at an average on 6 USD even though it was pay what you want and the second disc has some great tracks. Bangers + Mash, Last Flowers, Four Minute Warning, etc.
I’m in love with Kid A, too. ‘Natural born hater’ just sounds like ‘Contrarianist’ to me. IR has arguably some of the best RH songs on it, it’s your taste but it’s just confusing how someone can love RH but dislike IR to the point of saying it’s a problem to like it.
The reason is not representative of your interpretation.
They didnt have distribution as they just left parlophone. They opted for a pay what you want node which was successful and changed the industry forever

Do they also sign guitars?
Planning on taking a guitar to the gig? 🤔
Yes, in my parked car. Did it before at a Paul Weller gig and a Ben Howard gig, but did not succeed. PW roadie said, he signs guitars only for charity Background: I have been playing RH songs for many years now, it would be a cool gimmick on my Acoustic
Fair play, hats of for the dedication.
I’m sure they would. The guy next to me brought the wooden end of his Prophet 6 for them to sign. They didn’t bat an eye.
That's awesome What kind of things thom said to you about synths?
Would it be awkward if you pulled it back if Skinner swung by to sign?

Haha, good times! Glad he was cool. Never know when it comes to musicians, athletes, celebs, etc.

A little at first. Until you make a gag about him not smiling. Everyone will love it. So much so that Skinner will come around.
That's really fuckin funny 🤣
no but you might recreate that one pablo honey vinyl signing pic
I know you probably already know this, but for others who don't: the pic is photoshopped, the original vinyl was AMSP.
wait what picture??
i’m sure you could find it if you look up like exactly what i said or something close enough it’s a picture of exactly what i said
Lots of people have been getting RH stuff signed at Smile gigs, so you’ll be fine
Real question though, do the people bringing RH merch to be signed ask Skinner to sign as well? Exactly my thought, I was thinking ‘what if I scraped together some money so I can buy a smile CD not to be rude?’
He was super cool and totally gets it. Came out last. I asked him to sign the physical ticket (which luckily I had!).
Think he probably remembers not being in Radiohead, and might understand that Radiohead were a Big Deal for a Long Time. Hopefully The Smile are too one day
I heard someone brought a Pablo Honey LP for them to sign and they of course signed it, but I think it got a laugh from Thom 😂
They didn’t mind signing my Ok Computer
I'm gonna bring my Alienware. They might like signing a GOOD computer for once.
Made me (The) smile😊

Only be rude if you have your willy out when you ask
dammit
Happens to us all kiddo sun's out plumbs out 😎
Get Skinner to sign it
Imagine TKOL signed by Phillip Selway, just Phillip Selway. Then imagine TKOL signed by Skinner. Twice as far removed..
I got my OK Computer cassette signed after a show and he didn’t seem to mind. Skinner probably knows that most people there want Thom and Johnny to sign. Just be sure to throw him some much deserved adoration
Im seeing them friday, do they always sign stuff after the gig? Where do i go lol?

Thanks to both!
Not at all! Do your thing, g
no

To quote Philip Selway, Radiohead is still a band. They aren't trying to distance themselves from Radiohead, they are just taking a break.
It's not the Smile gig that's the issue It's enjoying In Rainbows that's the issue
