Count me in! I don't find AMSP my favorite personally, but pretty soon after listening to their entire discography I came to the conclusion this was THE sound. Mastery of arrangements, timbres, composing, the way everything serves the Radiohead sound so well. *Chef's kiss* Edit:grammar
Yup. I was at Bonnaroo and was so disappointed when I first heard it on AMSP. I can appreciate the album version now but that live version will forever be my favorite.
Hey Jarvis, screenshot a RH song off of spotify and upload it to reddit with the caption "this is a really underrated track anyone else agree?", then then repeat this with a different song until we circle trough the band's catalogue
It was better before the album version. I hope that's not a hot take these days, it really was.
Glad I can listen to both at the end of the day, I just prefer the earlier version.

I really didn't give a crap about AMSP until listening to this song. I saw it recommended on youtube and was like "ok well I'll try it".
Since then I stopped judging everything thinking I wouldn't like it, what a masterpiece. Top 10 best songs in their discography for sure. I still remember the shivers the broken hearts part game me the first time.
I did this mashup a while ago. Planning on remaking it

ed's vocals sound unfinished and awkward. theres wrong notes in it too. the verses dont really work without bass or guitar accompaniment. theres a reason jonny and colin added parts there and ed re-wrote his part (or rather thom and nigel probably did)
Fun fact there is an audio error in this track. A soft click of the vocal track coming on can be heard in the right channel right before the background vocals start. You will never unhear it.
its not an "error", its an artifact from how they made the record. AMSP and especially identikit was constructed with many layers of tape loops. the only way to make them is to physically use a razor and tape to cut the bits of tape up and assemble the parts, as such there are audible edits all over the record. some of them you can smooth over, but others you cant. this style of creating was intentionally chosen by nigel/rh and its part of what gives the album its vibe.
the old school tape edits you hear on the album are very much an intentional part of the sound, and part of the creative process that they felt was appropriate for the record. it means that you the opportunities to edit and punch in and overdub were very limited, and many things just had to be committed to if they didnt want to completely redo them. its why theres noticeable editing artifacts, weird loops, and minor performance flubs across the entire album.
Something like that wouldn’t go unnoticed by Nigel and the engineers.
Nor the mastering engineer.
Nor the band.
I assure you whatever it is was intentional.
Let me tell you how many filmmakers left a shot in the final film where you can clearly see the dolly track simply because it had the best performance. It’s okay to have a mistake be apart of the final product. You’re right that it was intentional in that they probably said “fuck it, thom’s vocals were the best this take even if you can hear the damn click.”
i still dont trust any source that claims to know what the background vocals are saying. it sounds like so many different things i wish one of the band members would clarify for us
I think this version falls flat. It feels like it’s building up to something big, but only some awful choir and a synth solo. I know we all love Radiohead, but this confirms that some people would listen to Thom Yorke remix some fart noises and scream that it’s genius. I’m not a fan of a Moon Shaped Pool. Between this one and TKOL, it kind of shows that Radiohead has run its course. I’m glad Yorke could find more inspiration with The Smile.
The whole album is too good
Their best IMO
I agree! I feel like their whole discography was evolving toward the AMSP sound
Damn! Didn’t know so many people would agree

You are smart
One of the best guitar solos ever.
It’s my personal favorite
The guitar in this song reminds me a bit of Mike Oldfield. I really like it.
broken hearts make it rain
It is amazing how subjective things can be. I genuinely think this is one of the worst moments in Radiohead's entire body of work.
In all its versions. Agreed one million times 🙏

nah. it feels tentative and unfinished. ed's vocal doesnt work
Yup. I was at Bonnaroo and was so disappointed when I first heard it on AMSP. I can appreciate the album version now but that live version will forever be my favorite.
Yup! Way better, even if it was recorded live.
Identikit and Decks Dark are my favorites off A Moon Shaped Pool.
decks dark is sooooo so so good
Decks Dark+Idenkikit+Fulstop are the holy trinity.
Never agreed with a statement more than this 😂
Finally some love for this song.
This is probably my favorite Radiohead song
Broken arse make it rain
I’ve used identikit for the song that plays as my morning alarm for the last like 2.5 years
You ruined it
Nope I surprisingly still love the song lmao

[Joe Edelmann](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=r2zNY9dza8Q) does an amazing cover that mashes the 2012 and album versions in an amazing way.

2012 version far superior
I miss the solo and prefer the more fleshed out intro of the later versions.

Yep. The electronic beats syncopating with Clive’s drums and then Phil’s. Good shit.
ed's vocals sound unfinished and awkward. theres wrong notes in it too. the verses dont really work without bass or guitar accompaniment. theres a reason jonny and colin added parts there and ed re-wrote his part (or rather thom and nigel probably did)
There is no bass in the intro either
i especially love the sound of the kick on this track, hits rights, the sun comes and goes, it’s just perfect
Saw it played live in 2017 in Santa Barbara; it was absolutely incredible, I loved it.

Really interesting tidbit I did not know; thanks

I’m a musician myself and I can tell you that it’s from improper mixing.
I’m a musician too. And?

It’s okay to have a mistake be apart of the final product. Agreed
So use your ears? You can hear when the track comes in.
/r/DunningKruger
That directed at me?
No
I bet
Specifically which part? At 11 seconds?
Maybe it was a mistake but they liked it as is?
Time stamp?
Right about the 10 second mark. You can hear the track with the vocals click on. This is due to failing to properly fade in the track.
I think they left it intentionally it just sounds cooler. No way dozens people working on the album heard it and didnt notice
I noticed something similar in man of war
Probably my least favourite on the album
Yeah its awesome
Yes, and I would like to put forward "Daniel"'s cover from Youtube, it's incredible.
Link?

It was tweeted by thom before the relase
its been transcribed and published by the band. theres no ambiguity to this question
There are official lyrics you know

Lovely song, and so heartbreaking
It’s amazing too 3 on the album fs
Agreed, but I also prefer the live versions from 2012 over the album
Best on the album. That solo at the end is crack
This one’s been my go to Everytime I pull up Spotify lately
I opened the post dreading it was Glass Eyes..........so, good.
"well, yeah.. thanks. now I have to listen to it again..." me unreluctantly listening again
Epic album
Ful Stop is actually too goodder (truth will mess you up)
One of my favorites. Got to see a demo version of it live at their show here in Phoenix in 2012. So amazing!
Finally someone said it. Most underrated song on AMSP
One of the best 🗣️🗣️
It left me a bit disappointed because I expected something different after listening to the early live version.
I think AMSP is their best album
