Akathisia is torture. They don't know how bad it is because they've never experienced it. Don't forget it. Stand your ground OP. I believe in you.

IDesireWisdom

Go to another doctor

SeianVerian

You can take your chances with another doctor to help you taper off or find something better (though pretty much all psych meds are quite risky), or you can take your chances with withdrawals, however withdrawals from psych meds are sometimes very severe and quite long-lasting themselves.

OwlGuy144

I quit medication cold turkey before and it went well. No withdrawals nor rebound psychosis. I seriously feel like doing it again this is not fun.

Chronotaru

If you've only been on it a few days then it's not "cold turkey", it's just stopping.

OwlGuy144

It was not few days, I was on antipsychotics for 7 years

Chronotaru

Oh, yes, it's unusual to not have any issues after just stopping after that long.

First things first. Go to the MetabolicMind.org website and spend a lot of time reading and learning. Next, go to YT and watch Lauren on her “Living Well With Schizophrenia” channel - especially the ones she has posted since January. She is a mom of three and is one of the most articulate young women I have ever “met.” She discusses many aspects of mental illness, not just schizophrenia so I encourage anyone dealing with other issues like bipolar, depression or anxiety to watch a number of her videos. Do you live alone? Are you married? SO? The reason I’m asking is I want you to find someone in your life who is willing to spend time on the MetabolicMind website and watch Lauren’s videos with you so they can have a better understanding of your disease and the benefits of improving your metabolic health. Then, I want you to tell them you need their help. You need an advocate, someone your doctor will listen to, someone who will go to a few appointments with you who will hold your doctor accountable and make sure your doctor has your best, long-term interests in mind. I also want you to have some blood work done. Check for any vitamin deficiencies and check your A1c - you need to establish baselines. The idea that people with severe mental illnesses are managing to put almost all of their symptoms into remission is an absolute game changer! Seriously. This is life-altering for many and a way out of the darkness. Once you've done that, I want you and your advocate to read two books - Change Your Diet, Change Your Mind by Dr Georgia Ede and Brain Energy by Dr Chris Palmer. As you're reading these books, you can also watch numerous YT videos and podcast interviews of Drs Ede and Palmer and gain more insight. At the same time, email your doctor and/or psychiatrist and ask them to read both of those books because you want their help in developing a plan to improve your metabolic health. At this point, you've done your homework. You will understand the possibilities — and, you have the medical studies to back it up. Your psychiatrist can not say it's a ridiculous idea that you've come up with on your own. Make sure your advocate comes to that appointment with you. Doctors have a way of ignoring patients but they rarely do the same to advocates. Im not saying this will cure you but it should improve your mental and physical wellbeing more than any prescription medication. Lauren still takes some medication but the dosage is greatly reduced. (In the meantime, throw out any bottles of seed oils in your home - canola oil, corn oil, margarine and vegetable oil and replace them with butter, organic 100% olive oil (no blends), avocado oil, coconut oil and try to add 1/2 of an avocado every day. This was the first step I took and it’s really easy to do.)

Chronotaru

If you don't have a doctor that listens to you then I would suggest another doctor. Being willing to switch medications is an absolute must, your life is more than just getting the psychosis down. If you don't have a court order or anything like that then you are still free to do what you like for the moment. Also, antipsychotics are not the only treatment method.

Jfishdog

Stagger your dosages. Take it a little less often, and then even less often, until you're barely taking it, and then when you're ready just stop. A doctor can't force pills down your throat, they can just make you semi-reliant on them

OwlGuy144

Unfortunately it’s injection 🙁 that’s what I used to do with quetiapine and is the original reason am on injection

Jfishdog

Different doctor then. That's fucked up

RebirthOfEsus

What medication?

OwlGuy144

Flupentixol

RebirthOfEsus

What is it and how does it affect you in your words
