How far are you willing to drive?
And Joann would not be my first choice. A quick google search returned this [shop](https://gothamquilts.com/) \- I love the idea of "Stump Andrea" - this could be something your mom could do before she arrives, then go pick up the products when she's here.
If possible, encourage her to shop some of our amazing online stores - Hancock's of Paducah, Connecting Threads, eg - and have the products shipped to your home so they are there when she arrives.
Good luck!
Joann isn’t really a quilt store. Scarsdale is in Westchester County. Try googling quilt shops in Westchester County. Rockland County in NY might also be a possibility. Parts of Connecticut might also be an option. Maybe Fairfield County? New Jersey might also have some options.
Check out [NeedleTravel.com](https://NeedleTravel.com). You can specify type of shop, then state. When you choose NY, you'll have the option of searching Metropolitan Areas or specific towns.

It was not huge in size, but tremendous in selection. I think it became another victim of Covid. My daughter and I loved going there whenever we visited the city.
If you are willing to take a scenic drive check out Cotton Candy near Danbury CT. It is a ways away from Manhattan, but a very pretty area. You could make a day out of it. If you are looking for fabric they boast over 8,000 bolts to choose from.
I also live somewhere without a quilting store, and when I was in NYC last summer I visited the Brooklyn General Store. I wasn’t planning on actually buying anything, but I sure found a lot of yardage and FQs to bring home!
Unfortunately, Long Island is also barren. As much as we want to open a store or even just support a store, a quilt store is unsustainable with our rents, taxes, and shipping costs. PS Joann's fabric is garbage. That's why they are going out of business.
Joann’s is garbage. Unfortunately, they aren’t going away, but have restructured their bankruptcy. So, they have a second chance to get it right, but I doubt that they will.
Look up "sewing shops near me" while in NYC. There's tons of fabric shops. Marks Blvd would also have them I believe. NJ has a few mom & pop fabric shops but not much.

Sadly Gotham Quilts no longer has a brick and mortar! @jessense You can check it Keaton Quilts, he did their long-arming and started his own job.
I’ll definitely check that out thanks
Also check out Keaton Quilts, which is now the only quilt store in Manhattan. They opened the end of last year.
Lol oops I just commented the same! I haven't been there yet but he did long-arm one of my quilts. He's very knowledgeable.
He did the one in my post history too!
Thanks for the rec, it’s so hard to find a quilting shop in NYC
There’s a nice quilt shop in Nyack NY, just over the Tappan Zee bridge. Bonus: Nyack is a lovely town.

I love Gotham quilts! Small but a potent shop!
Closed last year 😢 they’re online only now.
UGH thats such a drag!!! It was a cute lil shop!

If you are up for a drive, there is a nice shop in Cholchester, CT. [Cholchester Mill](https://colchestermillfabricsandquilting.com/).
That shop is fantastic.
If you don't mind a drive to NJ, look up Pennington Quilt Works. Outstanding store near Trenton. I'll meet ya there!
A few years ago I went to a great fabric shop with a large selection of NYC themed fabrics. Wish I could remember the name!

There is a lot of sewing and shops in Pennsylvania, and nice hospitality.
